NYC chain H&H makes better bagel sandwiches than bagels - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"H&H is the first West Coast location of a classic New York bagel shop that’s made cameos in Sex and the City and Seinfeld. The solid bagel sandwiches are the biggest sellers in Santa Monica, and the front counter operates like a beautifully chaotic breakfast assembly line with eggs frying, bacon sizzling, and bagels toasting. The bagels themselves are good, though a bit less puffy and chewy than what you’d expect from a traditional NYC variety, which is why we prefer them as sandwiches with a thick layer of whipped cream cheese rather than on their own. The best of them all is the simple textbook BEC, which homesick Jersey folks can also order with Taylor's pork roll instead of bacon. Just come early if you can—some days they sell out of everything bagels by lunchtime. Food Rundown Classic Bacon, Egg & Cheese H&H's toasty-hot BEC nails the holy trifecta: fried eggs with crisp edges, ribbons of crackly bacon, and a layer of gooey melted cheese that holds them together like glue. PlayMute video credit: Cathy Park Jalapeño Cheddar Bagel The least traditional (at least actually to NYC purists) bagel at H&H also happens to be one of the strongest. The baked cheddar creates a golden shell, while the inside stays soft enough to pull apart. The bagel has a lot of flavor with a smidge of heat, and it's even better when filled with scallion cream cheese. photo credit: Cathy Park" - Cathy Park

The Biggest Los Angeles Restaurant Openings in February 2025 | Eater LA

"The popular New York bagel shop made famous by Seinfeld and Sex and the City opened its first West Coast outpost on February 26 in Santa Monica. The menu leans on New York classics—bacon egg and cheese, lox, whitefish salad, and buttered bagels—with tubs of cream cheese and deli salads available to-go. The chain also has a future location planned for Echo Park." - Mona Holmes

Legendary New York Bagel Shop H&H Bagels Is Opening in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"An East Coast bagel shop is opening its first West Coast location on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica on February 26, 2025 (710 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90403), operating daily from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect a menu similar to the New York locations featuring “loose bagels,” sandwiches and more — specifically a classic bacon egg and cheese on a choice of bagels, a lox sandwich, a whitefish salad sandwich, buttered bagels, tubs of cream cheese and deli salads to-go, and the option to take a dozen bagels at a time. Founded in 1972 by Helmer Toro and Hector Hernandez on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the shop built a reputation for serving a quintessential New York bagel with a “chewy exterior that comes from kettle-boiling,” and it has appeared in films and TV shows like You’ve Got Mail, Sex and the City, Seinfeld, and more; the shop today uses the same recipe it was founded on. The company’s recent history includes a 2010 indictment of Toro for tax fraud, grand larceny, falsifying records, and violating labor law (he was sentenced to 50 weekends in jail and fined $500,000), the 2011 closure of the original Upper West Side and a Midtown outpost, and a 2014 purchase of the company’s name and assets by Jay Rushin (including an Upper East Side location). Under Rushin the brand returned to its original neighborhood in 2022 with a new Upper East Side location and has expanded to seven locations across New York City; the business also has locations across New York and one in Boca Raton, Florida, and plans further expansion to Washington, D.C., Chicago, Knoxville, and Echo Park. To give back locally, the Santa Monica franchise owner, Phil Gross, will be donating 100 percent of the first week’s profits to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund." - Rebecca Roland

Google
I’ve been looking for a classic NYC bacon egg and cheese in LA. This is the spot. Great spot. Great bagels. Great staff. Great vibe. Whoever had the idea to bring this spot to life deserves high five or at least a very firm handshake. Well done.

Bob P.

Google
Had an everything bagel which is my standard order at any bagel place. It was very disappointing. It just seemed stale and lacking that crispy outside and fresh doughy inside. I can get much better fresh bagels near my home in San Diego.

Guillaume B.

Google
We tried H&H bagels for the first time, fresh ingredients and food in general, with a good bagel quality. The staff was really good (had to wait for a few minutes for my order and they mentionned it in advance and gave me another notice about my order while preparing it). My avocado bagel was pretty good, however my wife was not impressed with her salmon one (The Leo) Else than that I cannot really compare price wise but I have in mind they are a bit expensive compare to other alternatives I tried in the past. Overall a four stars-rating for fresh food and friendliness as well as a nice location, you can also eat inside

Conor G.

Google
My wife and I went in on a Sunday morning. I got a bacon, egg and cheese and she got a bagel with scallion cream cheese. Service was very friendly and the place was very clean. Having been to the NY location we had high hopes. The low rating is because our food was well below expectations. There was barely any cream cheese at all on her bagel (pictured) so it was hard to enjoy. My bacon, egg and cheese sandwich was just ok. The cheese on the bagel is gooey american cheese and I didn’t care for how it tasted. If I had known it was American cheese i’d have probably gone without.

Google
I have never been to H&H Bagels in NY, so I cannot compare. But I did see about this place online and was super curious to try. I have been disappointed with some bagel places around here, and I have my specific spots that I like. Anyway, so I wanted to try this one. I had already passed by it a few times and it was always crowded with long line. So, we went on a weekend, it was crowded, but we probably waited 10-15min. It can still be considered as a lot, but I wanted to try. Inside it gets a bit loud, and the way to order is not very easy as you have a big glass between you and the worker. You kind of have to yell to make yourself heard - imagine when you have to name a bunch of different ingredients. After that, you go to the register to pay where you need to repeat your order again. I just feel it’s a bit messy as a system. And, then you need to find the person who took your order. Now comes the time to try the food. The bagel is fairly big with quite a lot of food inside. But… it was a bit blend in terms of taste to be honest. I did ask for toasted bagels, but if they actually did it, it was very light so that was disappointing as well. And, I don’t have much more to say - it was just a very basic bagel, so for me it didn’t live up to the hype. I would try it again very well toasted with salted butter, and then it might bring me that NY vibe.

Ruby L.

Google
I tried H&H bagels and had such a positive experience. The bagels were fresh and so good! My only comment is that there was way too much cream cheese and the egg sandwich had American cheese, and my family prefers real cheddar. Otherwise, my order was ready super quickly and the staff were so kind and welcoming. I was also able to use the WiFi to work which was a big plus since the coffee shop next door doesn’t have any internet.

Alberto Varela R.

Google
Cozy bagel spot with a warm, welcoming vibe. Always draws a good crowd, and the epic views make it even better. Great place to relax and enjoy a fresh bite.

Google
Have been to H&H 5+ times and every time is better than the last! The staff is so friendly and the bagels/ingredients are always so fresh. I’ve tried multiple different menu items and have been pleased each time. Me and my dog’s new favorite weekend ritual!

Yelp
These are more round bread than bagels. I grew up in NY. I know from bagels. H&H was never my favorite, but when I heard they were expanding to Santa Monica, I was excited. Unfortunately, the actual bagels didn't deliver on their promise. I've now had their bagels twice and I've been disappointed twice. The bagels are apparently par-boiled and frozen at a central production facility in Queens, and then shipped to the Santa Monica store where they finish the baking process. It seems like this system might benefit from some refinement. Or maybe they can make the bagels from scratch here in LA. I really wanted to like this place, but I'm just not that into it. Service was friendly. There are a good number of tables if you want to eat there.

Yelp
I've been to H&H in New York and let me tell you this is sadly nothing like that. The bagels just taste way too dense. They are not light and fluffy or airy. With the cream cheese it's kind of a dense log. The sausage egg and cheese one was a bit better because of the contents. I will say though that the staff is so friendly!! Shoutout!
google avatar

Yelp
They didn't even make my order had to wait 20 mins and then remind them. Also I got the eggwich last time and it was the sloppiest mess of a breakfast bagel I've ever had in my entire life. Go to pops bagels. The ny deli, Sam's, h and h all are average bagel shops and just not even close to as good as pops.

Yelp
Found myself on Montana yesterday after gifting my 14 yo pal Gordy a birthday gift of Beatles Collectibles that blew his mind... he is one exceptional artist and shares my love of the Beatles especially John and George. 10:30 am is a perfect time to "bagel" without crowds. Last time I reviewed H&H, I was disappointed that I couldn't sample their spicy scallion cream cheese ... today I decided to buy a small amount and my favorite vegetable cream cheese. I figured I could mix a little of the spicy scallion with it. I was right. It is extremely spicy and mixing it gave it the right kick. Their bagels are amazing ( texture is perfect). The folks behind the counter were lovely ( even the grumpy guy from my last experience was smiling ) Parking at that time is a lot easier than early morning... Definitely happy with my purchases! And my husband and I enjoyed our late morning repast immensely!

Yelp
What I Ordered: -Bacon, Egg and Cheese on Everything Bagel $8.70 -Jalapeño Cheddar Bagel with Spicy Scallion CC $5.70 -Large Coffee $3.80 As soon as I heard that H & H was expanding their business to Santa Monica. I knew I had check it out for myself. I've been to the legendary location NYC and had to see how this location matches up to it. LA definitely has some decent bagels, but nothing can compare to the bagels in NYC. It's all in the water! LA doesn't have great water like NYC. That's my 2 cents! I went to H & H early one morning to see what the hype was all about. I ordered a classic bacon, egg & cheese on an everything bagel. It was a pretty good bacon, egg & cheese. The egg was cooked well and the cheese was nice and gooey. The bacon was pretty good. The presentation was a bit sloppy. The bacon was sliding out of the sandwich. The everything bagel was meh. It wasn't a very good bagel in my opinion. I've had better Everything Bagels in LA. I also got the Jalapeño Cheddar Bagel which I liked a lot. Probably because it was loaded with cheese, but it was soft and chewy and a pretty good bagel. The smear of Cream Cheese was lacking especially when you consider the price point. The bagel with Cream Cheese costs $5.70 which is pretty high even for Santa Monica. The coffee was nothing to write home about. It was piping hot. You make it to your liking on your own. There's no sleeve for the cup. The cup is thicker than your average coffee cup, but its still a bit hot to touch. So be careful! I wouldn't be in a rush to come back as there's better options out there!

Yelp
I ordered the LEO, and it was terrible. It's advertised as lox stacked on top of folded eggs, but what was delivered was a gross scramble as you can see in the photo. Not what I paid for. We also ordered the nova salmon with the works. It was mediocre. I won't be a customer here again.
google avatar

sanjana m.

Yelp
Food was really good. I was skeptical with the price $17 for a bagel but they really loaded it up! Surprised they did not have a lox bagel but they had lox spread. Ambiance was nice, place was very spacious and open, had a rustic vibe. Service was good. Nova Salmon with the works bagel 5/5

Susannah H.

Yelp
Just got a classic bacon egg and cheese on an everything but added shmear. It was so good!!! Got lots of fun sandwich options to choose from too and have some coffee. Would definitely come here again. They cooked the bacon and eggs fresh right in front of us and was not that bad of a wait.
google avatar

Lisa I.

Yelp
We ordered bagels to go before a drive back home. We got the bacon, egg, and cheese with a hot honey drizzle (the hot honey drizzle made the sandwich), nova lox (our fave), and the southwestern (least favorite). Overall the bagels are good, soft on the inside and chewy on the outside. Most of all the customer service was amazing. All the employees were very friendly, helpful, and engaging

Yelp
I was getting a lot of ads when this place opened a few months ago but haven't made it out to the place until recently. I was surprised by the 3 star rating before going but now I see why. I came early on a Friday around 8 am and they did not have any everything bagels. Maybe because they just opened but they should probably be stocked then? The service was very slow despite not having a line. The employees seem to be busy working on online or preorders. He talked super quickly and seemed a bit rushed when I was talking to him. It must be really busy on the weekends. The bagel was huge and good. I was not able to finish all by myself. I got the spicy sausage egg and cheese. Wasn't too spicy. May be back but unsure because I don't like waiting
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
When I first saw this spot it was the grand opening and there was a hugee line, so I came back again to try it. I believe this place is originally from New York and is well loved over there. I got the spicy sausage egg & cheese bagel sandwich which was pretty good, I'd recommend it but ask for a little less of the cream cheese, and add salt and pepper. There was a long line when we got there, but luckily we ordered for pickup so we didn't have to wait. The sandwich was good but I wouldn't say it's worth the wait in the line, so I recommend ordering online ahead of time. Will come back to try their other items again.
google avatar

Aileen H.

Yelp
This is my second time here. The bagels are good but service is very slow. They have not 1 or 2 but 4 people behind the counter. Given I was the only customer in line and I had to wait 15 minutes just to place my order was unacceptable. I was about to leave when the manager/help staff finally asked me if I had been help. I understand it's hard to find good people now and they are still about 3 weeks new. I would wait a few months before visiting just because they are very very slow. Suggestions: Perhaps they can have one person be in charge of taking the orders, two people making the food, and one person checking customers out at the end of the counter by the register. My suggestion is to have a cashier at the end and he/she can hand over drinks such as coffee while the customer is waiting for the food to be prepared. The cashier at the end can also give the customers any bagels that don't require any toasting or preparing. That will reduce the waiting time for customers who only need a bagel and a drink and give the waiting customer their coffee first. Also, have a separate place/shelf for Door Dash orders so people picking up DoorDash don't have to wait in line. Right now, each staff is doing everything. And if all of them are making sandwiches individually then no one can help a customer until that staff is done. That's what I observed while I was there. I saw people working hard. I just think the process can be improved for better efficiency and overall customer experience.

Yelp
The bagels were something I was excited to try after seeing this is the NYC bagels brand that was featured in "Seinfield" and "Sex and the City" and this is the first ever location here in the West Coast, city of Santa Monica! We came here on their 3rd day of opening, and at around 1PM we were told all the plain bagels were already sold out for the day. After reassurance that the bagels are all nut-free for allergies, I chose the "Everything" bagel and picked the Classic option (bacon, egg, and cheese). My boyfriend, a NY bagel lover, ate his "Asiago Cheese" bagel Classic style as well, and though that the bagel was missing something. Unfortunately they were also out of the egg bagels that he really likes. Overall, it was filling and I only needed to eat half to feel satisfaction for lunch. I personally don't know if I'd be desiring to eat this again! Also when we were leaving, it smelt burnt inside /:

Yelp
I attended the Grand Opening at 5:30am and was lucky #7 in line! By 5:50am, the line almost reached Lincoln Blvd. First 200 received a tote bag with a gift card inside, I got $5! Very good energy once they opened their doors. The staff greeted us with a warm welcome. I heard about them on social media. First one in Santa Monica and west coast I believe. Apparently a well known NY bagel shop which appeared on Seinfeld TV and Sex in the City shows back in the day. I had their Jalapeño cheddar with plain cream cheese, and boy are they generous with the cream cheese. Overflows like a puffy cloud! I asked for lightly toasted because I can't do hard bagels. It was perfectly lightly toasted per my ask! The jalapeño cheese bagel alone was very good! They also have many bagel options, up to 12 different ones. With lox, egg, and more! Sign up for their rewards program on their app. 25 points given at time of sign up and 1 point for every $1 spent. $5 off for every 75 points earned, and free $5 on your Bday. Metered parking available in front and residential parking around the corner, but be sure to read the restrictions. Overheard another one is coming to LA on the east side! Echo Park maybe? :) Good luck H&H!

Yelp
It is solid but it taught me that many people in this area are BRUTAL. So entitled and ignorant. Whining about waiting 5 minutes for a fresh batch (thats how bagels work sometimes children) or how they had to repeat their order twice or how this food costs as much as food costs around here or how sometimes due to unpredictable supply/demand an ingredient runs out or how they only have the food they sell not food they don't sell. These people are so proud and so pathetically misguided naive and immature. The number of these petulant toddlers walking around in fine fabrics calling themselves important while crying in the bathroom only to take it out on folks making a living is baffling. The only thing this H and H is actually missing is New Yorkers to put these absolute losers in their place. That said the bagels at H and H arent world class theyre just good. Same in NYC. But its a solid bagel. So quit your whining and grow the hell up. Its a bagel store. Bagel store stuff happens here. JFC.

Yelp
If you've been to H&H bagels in New York, you will definitely appreciate the southern California version of it. Come off hours or you will be waiting in line for a long time and your bagel could be sold out. We came at about 11 o'clock on Sunday and brought our Golden doodle with us. There were lots of dogs both inside and out so we felt OK bringing him in. We enjoyed onion bagels, apple juice, orange juice, Locke spread and regular cream cheese and even bought some bagels to go. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and we are so happy to have this addition to our city
google avatar

Alli B.

Yelp
Solid bagel! I got an everything with egg and cheese and it was delicious. It didn't blow me away but it was delicious, cheap and easy! I will definitely be back. I also got a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. A classic bagel spot! They have a good amount of seating and the line really was not long for a Saturday morning. Service was fast and easy. I'll be back!
google avatar

Jillian G.

Yelp
Line was decent but moved fast enough for a weekend. It took a bit to deliver our food, but some of our group waited while the rest of us grabbed coffees next door. The bagels were tasty and warm, but didn't wow me. I wouldn't rush back, but had a good experience overall.
google avatar

Evanne D.

Yelp
Excellent service and cute space to enjoy your bagel. They don't skimp on the cream cheese but their everything bagel could use more salt for flavor.

Yelp
We have better bagels in LA. The lox schmear was sparse which was not the case when I went to NYC and had a bagel at Liberty Bagels. I was told authentic NYC bagels go crazy on the cream cheese. I don't think I would go out of my way to eat here at H&H again. If you're in the neighborhood, maybe. I've had bagels in Montreal at Ste-Viateur and NYC (Ess-A-Bagel, Liberty Bagels, Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe), and not much of a fan of H&H Bagels. If you check the Yelp reviews, people don't really like H&H Bagels on Yelp -- an exception for the original location in the UES. We have plenty of great bagels in LA these days. Dare I say some of the best bagels in the country with new aces popping up all the time -- the competition is getting fierce. I love Saint-Raf in Cypress Park and Tomorrow Bagels at Hollywood and Newhall Farmers Market. Maury's and Hank's are solid options as well. Go, if you're curious like me, but ask for extra schmear for the NYC experience. Tip: Pre-order on their website as this place is already crowded with people wanting a "taste of a NYC-style bagel."

Yelp
By coincidence, I was in New York twice over the last three months. Bagel shop (yes that's what it's called) at 93rd and 3rd. We took the bus 40 blocks to have a sandwich here and it was more than worth it. Fantastic bagel and this turkey was good too. Ess a Bagel. Excellent bagel and will definitely go back here many times. Zuckers. Finished third in the group, but that still means it was fantastic. H&H holds its own with any of these places. It just has that flavor and substance. The shop is really nice looking. It was very crowded because it was the first Saturday that they were opened and they were out of several flavors which kind of sucked. They were out of plain and that is the benchmark I use to judge so I will definitely need to go back. The staff was extremely friendly and patient. Parking is always a challenge in this area. I will absolutely go back probably when the hoopla dies down a bit.

Yelp
The hospitality by the staff is really good & the food is really good. I never heard of this brand despite growing up in NYC but I *DO* miss the bagels I used to get!!! We drove out here after hearing it out. Unfortunately they were out of the egg bagel and the plain bagel, but I chose to pick 2: the Asiago Cheese and the Jalapeno Cheddar. I ate the Asiago Cheese first and felt something was missing?? I realized I didn't taste any salt, pepper, and ketchup, which to me isn't it supposed to be a staple in those bagels?? So when I ordered a second time, the Jalapeno Cheddar bagel, I actually requested for those missing ingredients and it is much better-- overall making me enjoy eating that bagel more. I recommend for you guys to add those ingredients too. I also want to note that the cheese given is plenty and not skimpy!!! I am super sad they are out of the egg bagels (my favorite!!) unfortunately as they are fluffy to me. I was also disappointed they were out of iced coffees, saying they only had cold brew. It was just after 12pm too. Overall I'd like to come back here though hopefully to one day get those egg bagels!!!

Yelp
I wish yelp would allow room to put 3.5 stars instead of just 3 or 4 because that's not fair. Speaking from a critical place The bagels and bagel sandwiches are solid just wasn't sold on the hype of the "New York magic touch" of it all. Granted I'll be back since I do want to try their croissants and their coffee looked good too.

Yelp
Highly disappointed with the new H&H in Santa Monica. I too used to go to the old H&H in NY on 81st St. This new iteration is nothing like it. 1. Service, while friendly, was terribly slow. I walked in on Tuesday afternoon and all of the employees looked like they were in slow motion. The line was about 4-5 customers deep (not busy) and the guy working the counter and the girl working the grill were going at half speed. Again, they were friendly, but looked confused like they didn't know where things were, what they were doing, etc. Maybe they were new? I know the place just opened, but food service should be "chop chop". Especially a sandwich type line. Took way too long to get an order placed. 2. The Bagels- I don't know what these are, but they're not NY style bagels. Very bready, and just BLAND. I had an everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. It was barely warm, and both the bagel itself and the "everything" toppings on the outside were flavorless! I couldn't quite tell what their "everything" is, but it looks like there are grains, or oats on them? The outside should have a sharp garlicky, salty, oniony kick. Not these. My friend had a sesame and same thing- no flavor. What are you guys putting on your Everything Bagels? Lose the oats, add more seeds, onion, garlic, and some salt! We both took a couple bites and looked at each other and shook our heads. They weren't worth the calories. We tossed them and left. I was very excited for H&H to open. I won't be going back. It seems the emphasis here is on their sandwiches. I've never seen bagels as sandwich bread. I suppose if you stuff a bunch of eggs, cheese, meats, lettuce, etc in between one of these, then you don't miss the actual bagel flavor. There's a bagel renaissance going on in LA right now with solid NY style bakeries and numerous high-end indie spots. I'm sad to say H&H, in this iteration, is like something you'd get in an airport or a hotel food counter.

Yelp
Sorry but I just had an awful lox and bagel. The bagel felt like a week old. At least toast that awful bagel. Can't understand the line at the opening. Just go to wexler's deli.
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
MEHHH Seemed kind of stale. My order was missing a couple things when I arrived to pick up. People are picky here so they'd better up their game or they'll be out by Christmas.
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
3.5 stars. The bagels are actually solid, but the fillings are extremely average. Had the lox with the works and just very OK. I would expect more from an institution like H&H but overall an average experience. Extremely slow and huge line on the weekend, ran out of everything bagels as well.
google avatar

Ricky B.

Yelp
So, you are talking to a guy who grew up on H & H Bagels on 81st & Broadway. I remember going down the street to Zabar's and would never think of getting bagels there as H&H was the place. Saying that.... (On a side note, the Zabar owner was not happy when one would get the lox and all of that and not his bagels as he was guarding the register like Ken Dryden with a sour puss). So, this place is very nice looking, staff freindly so that is the positive. Let's get to the nitty gritty. The bagles are a joke not just compared to the the UWS side joint I grew up on but actually compared to what is around LA. Many, many better options. Some other points. So disorganized and super slowzzzzzz. Also, why not a bialy and a garlic bagel. Like really folks the bagels are just lousy.

Yelp
If you are into sad stale lifeless bagels that feel generic and on life support, this is the bagel shop for you! For everyone else that came here to get a NY H & H bagel, these bagels suck. Nothing like the original on 81st street, no thanks.

Yelp
As a former New Yorker, I remember H&H UWS well. This location does a good job to recreate the experience, and the bagels are close (still not as dense/chewy as NY). This 'once was humble, now luxury brand' adds 300% to the price. Sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese for $7 is a little high, imho.

Yelp
I was so excited to see what the franchise would be like, and they disappointed me immediately. I think this is the kind of place where the ambience comes in waves of very busy and not busy at all. It is a franchise. The staff was courteous and the owner was very friendly, everyone was very nice. But let's talk about the food. On day one, they got my order wrong but they did fix it. I mean, it's brand new, everyone still learning how it works, I'm sensitive to that. The bagel? It was fine but nothing particularly special. Maybe they're baking them in the back but it tasted like they flew it in. I didn't ask. My second time, I ordered in advance using their app. I showed up 15 minutes after the time I was told my order would be ready and not only was it not ready, but they kept fulfilling orders of people who were walking in without having fulfilled my order and the orders of other people who had been waiting a long time. One person actually stormed out. The staff was very courteous, but I could tell they were overwhelmed. I still had to wait for my order. Maybe they were shortstaffed, again, one of the growing pains of a new business. But I have to say, strictly based on the bagel itself, there are many better bagels in Los Angeles right now. I will do the courtesy of not naming those places, but you can look around and find them. If you live in Santa Monica close to where this is located, it's very convenient. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood. However, the bagel market here is very competitive. If they want to be competitive in it, they will have to make some changes that I am sure they were aware of before I posted this review. Hopefully, they get it together.

Yelp
If you're looking for a solid morning bagel spot - H&H will do the trick! A bit of a wait (came in on a weekend), but overall a good experience.

Yelp
Opening day! We were transported back to New York the moment we stepped inside with the smells and sounds of a bustling H&H experience. We were even served by our favorite bagel barista from the upper west side who has been traveling the country helping to set up training operations at the new H&H locations. Excellent bagels. Crispy outside, sweet and not too doughy on the inside. We were surrounded by New Yorkers eager to get their fix and we even got dr. Brown's sodas. Cel-Ray soda for the win!

Yelp
Incredibly average. Ordered a bacon egg and cheese on wheat everything bagel. Sloppily cooked scrambled egg over McDonald's bacon. Bagel tasted stale. The two workers in the front were pleasant, but there was what sounded like four or five more workers in the back room not working at all and just laughing standing around (maybe if they weren't chatting I wouldn't have had to wait 5 mins for a non-wheat everything bagel). This place will be out of business in one year.

Yelp
Sorry guys but friends are honest with each other. I'm a New Yorker born and raised and having H&H in my hood was the best news in what has been a tough year. Went today, a quiet Tuesday morning, only 5 people ahead of me and I waited over 15 minutes before I gave up. An announcement that there's a 30 minute wait for EGGS?! After you wait for way too long to get an order in?! No management in sight. You guys, you brag about your New York recipe but equally important is to have New York service!! Spend some time in New York and see how quickly those guys get through customers on a busy morning. What a disappointing premiere, do better!! I hope you do.

Yelp
Today was a soft opening day. I walked by and saw it open and got happy! Went in a small line but lots of people helping the line. Got to order and as I was they brought out a fresh batch of everything bagels and my mouth watered. I got the bagel and jalapeño cream cheese and then an iced coffee. Nom nom nom might see me again tomorrow!!!!!

Yelp
Sorry for the harsh rating but you don't get to wear the H&H brand and then serve up dry stale everything Bagels on your first day. The store was busy. And to be fair the Jalapeno bagel was soft and properly made. Really disappointed.

Yelp
Grand opening today, I got an egg white and avocado on whole wheat, so exciting to get New York bagels here in Santa Monica!

Yelp
The bagels are good but it takes waaaaay too long to get them!! The people working there are very nice but it's SO SLOW!! Maybe management needs to hire another person or TWO more people to help???? Nobody wants to stand in line/WAITING for 10-15 minutes++ to order!! They never have enough "everything" bagels either! Why don't they notice when they get halfway down and put more in the oven then?? It's a mystery..... PLEASE GET MORE HELP and a MORE EFFICIENT plan for the staff!! The pressure on them is huge and you can tell they're trying really hard to things correctly and as fast as they can.....but customers get frustrated and cranky when they have to wait so long.....

Yelp
Absolutely horrible. I grew up in NYC and love H&H. This place is horrible nothing like the real thing. NO salt bagels and they had the audacity to tell my wife they fly the bagels in from NY. DON'T waste your time . Photo is from a better bagel place. This is what a real Salted bagel looks like. The manager said bagels are flown in from NY and they had no salted because they spoil too quickly. Salt is a preservative!! Must be a California education.

Yelp
Underwhelming. Slow. Expensive. Been twice now and I'm pretty sure this will be my last. I just didn't feel like this place is up to par and after reading most of the reviews I'm not sure how long this place will last. Well good luck.

Yelp
I came here with very low expectations and even those were not met! I had read the early reviews here and generally don't expect much of bagels in LA, but I am astounded by how bad the bagels here were. They don't resemble what you find at H&H in New York in the slightest. Texture is way off but the most offensive quality is how sweet they are. There is nothing pleasant about eating a sweet onion bagel. And as others have shared, service is insanely slow - it took about three times as long as it to have to get three whole bagels in a sack to go in a shop that was totally empty. Definitely never returning!

Yelp
the bagels are good considering it's LA, but the service is sooooo slow. i had to wait 15 minutes with only 2 people in front of me to order plain bagels that took them 5 seconds to hand me. on the east coast, you order and pay at the register first so if it's a sandwich other people behind the counter make them, but if you're just getting plain bagels, the cashier gets them for you so you don't have to wait for all the sandwiches to be made. it's absurd to have to wait so long for something so simple and it's clear this has been an issue for others in the reviews as well.

Yelp
Very disappointing experience. When I arrived the store was empty, there was no excuse for bad customer service, there was no smile or greeting, I felt like an annoyance to be there. I let a few people in front of me while I decided and my friend used the restroom. When it was my turn there was attitude with the guy taking my order and it seemed again like a bother. I was rushing to not be annoying and they didn't ask me if I wanted my bagel toasted. My friend did get asked if she wanted hers toasted. They then didn't give me what I ordered. Why would they display pictures of one thing and then serve another with no communication. Don't recommend and won't return. Bad ambiance and the bagels were so not worth it. Very stale.

Yelp
Gave me real cream cheese when I ordered plant based ( tofu cream cheese). Have been sick for hours . Waited way too long in line. Worst whole wheat bagel I have ever eaten Do better.....

Marie P.

Yelp
Left something to be desired. Went right at opening and could tell that they were slammed with orders, but was still disappointed that the bagels were dense and honestly felt a bit stale. Asked for the BEC toasted but it was just slightly warmed so I popped it in the oven when I got home - also could use some salt. Store itself was nice and had a few tables for dine-in. Hunt for a good bagel in LA continues.

Yelp
Went today for their opening. Great bagels for all us east coast transplants. Super grateful to have you in the neighborhood! Reasonable prices and friendly service. We will be back for sure!! Thank you!!

Yelp
Thank God! As a New Yorker living in Santa Monica, I'm so delighted to have H&H in my neighborhood. All of the bagels are flown from NY-- so it's as authentic as it gets. This place is beautiful and the staff are awesome. 10/10.

Yelp
Terribly below average. I am a certified carb lover, never met a bagel I didn't like, till now. Had high expectations as I have enjoyed H&H in NYC but its a hard pass for the new Santa Monica location. Bagels are hard, stale tasting, bought a dozen and actually threw 10 of them away, that has never happened in this bagel loving family. Won't be back.
