Handies Douzo - Review - Spring Branch - Houston - The Infatuation

"Handies Douzo, named for both its signature handrolls and the Japanese phrase for “here you are,” has opened its third location in Spring Branch. The 26-seat sushi bar keeps its focus on handrolls, sashimi, and crudos in a casual but polished room. Look for crisp nori handrolls offered in sets of three, four, and five, plus signature bites like the salmon belly carpaccio with green dashi and nutty beech mushrooms, and a small, smart list of sake, cocktails, beer, and wine." - Brooke Viggiano

From the moment you walk in, the experience is nothing short of amazing. The sushi is incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor but what truly sets this place apart is the team ( Jay, Chi and Khoa). Every staff member is welcoming, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You can feel the positive energy and teamwork throughout the entire restaurant. They go above and beyond to make sure every guest feels taken care of, and it shows in every detail. If you’re looking for top-tier sushi paired with exceptional service, this place is an absolute must. Highly recommend!

Oh my goodness. This place came highly recommended by a foodie friend. Best hand rolls in Houston. No joke. Immensely fresh and rich flavor profiles with each hand roll. The service was next level. I had the pleasure of meeting. Linh, Mo, Joshua, and Carlos, all of whom went above and beyond to connect with me and ensure I had an incredible experience. I will most definitely be back.

This place was delicious! The fish was all very fatty~ and the rolls left you FULL. I honestly am so impressed with how the servers and chefs are able to make sure the customers are all taken care of fast to maintain rotation. I’m not sure if it was the oil or the rolls but it did leave all of us so sick after lunch that we skipped dinner completely.

Google
Awesome to have this incredible sushi restaurant in Spring Branch. Have been visiting the location on White Oak for many years and thrilled to have a location 2 minutes from my house now! Fast service, great food, reasonable prices. Plenty of parking. Definitely check it out!

The hand rolls were delicious. Can’t go wrong with the spicy tuna, but try everything!! The staff was so friendly. Such a cute vibe. So happy they opened another location!

Google
Handies douzo never disappoints. The newest location still exceeds the expectations, as the other locations do. Same exceptional service, timely rolls, and lovely experience. This will always be my favorite handrolls spot in Houston and I’ll be a loyal customer for a long time. The entrance is a little confusing when you use google maps to direct.

Hand rolls were very good. Sashimi was thick and soft. Service was quick and friendly. It was a little cold inside.

Live in Memorial area, 64 year old who went for lunch on Saturday at my usual sushi place (Nori, which is excellent) was closed for lunch. Put sushi search in google, Handies Douro came up. New restaurant north of I10 with nice sit down counter but no tables. Great ratings. I thought I would give a try. Was surprised counter only.. trendy music… receptionist asked for my phone number as soon as I walked through door - initial response not positive, almost left. Sat down, very brief menu which didn’t make a lot of sense. Asked Barry for his recommendations, he ordered my food. Hand rolls were OUTSTANDING. Food was excellent. Really enjoyed. As a long time Bunker Hill resident it is fun to see new creative restaurants in neighborhood. Kudos to owners and sponsors.

Yelp
まじうま Bestie suggested for our monthly girl's date and it did not disappoint. She's never been wrong with picking the most delicious places. We had a 1:15 pm reservation on a Sunday. It's bar style seating so you can see them making the hand rolls etc. The restaurant location is relatively new. Aesthetically, very nice and tons of little duckies everywhere. Very clean, organized and airy atmosphere. There are purse holders underneath the bar for purses, bags. We ordered a variety of things. Started off with 3 hand roll set (bestie) and 2 a la carte hand rolls - spicy tuna, holy shitake for me. Mine were delicious. I'm not much into hand rolls because I feel the ratio of seaweed to rice to filling is off and most of the time, I'm eating seaweed and rice. This was different. The ratio was perfect. Both rolls were delicious. We shared a few items: sashimi - bluefin chutoro, hamachi crudo - kanpachi carpaccio - masutoro carpaccio and we each had their special item - kanpachi hand rolls BF chutoro (5/5) - fresh, tender and melted in my mouth Hamachi (4/5) - rich, buttery, very smooth as well Kanpachi crudo (5/5) - tangy, tender, with a hint of spice Masutoro carpaccio (5/5) - wow, we actually ordered something else but for this and we did not complain - accidental delicious find - everything just went well together and it tasted so savory Kanpachi hand roll (5/5) - this was everything in my mouth that I needed - I had different components from the buttery fish to the rice and the crunch - glad we didn't play it safe Everything was so fresh and delicious. And not overdone. The balance of ingredients is what made it so special. I thought about this experience for a few days after. The staff is super friendly and helpful with suggestions. And made the experience that much better. Def a must try! (I will be back)

Yelp
Every time I am in town I make sure to visit a Duckstache Hospitality restaurant. This time I had the pleasure of visiting their new location in Spring Branch and was not let down. The crudo, handrolls, and cocktails are always a hit! Cannot wait for the next visit to try something new.

Yelp
Great experience! It moves faster than you think. Sma restaurant. Very cute. Great date spot. A great amount of time between each roll for conversation. The handrolls come in at a nice place to enjoy the meal and overall experience. Rolls were great. Lots of flavor.

Yelp
I was really excited to check out this new Handies location, especially since I've had great experiences at their other spots. Unfortunately, this one ended up being my least favorite. Although the menu looks similar to the other Handies locations, the flavors just didn't hit the same. Their cocktails are pretty delicious though.

Yelp
I was super excited to try out the newly opened Handies location. I really appreciated that this one has its own parking lot, which makes things much more convenient. For food, I ordered the three Handroll set and two Crudos. You can never go wrong with the Masu, Hamachi, and Spicy Tuna Handrolls. They were all fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Between the Maguro and Masu Crudo, I would recommend the Maguro. The Masu had a slightly fishy taste, and the cut was thicker than expected, making it a bit chewy. The service was slower than at other locations, but that's understandable since it is a new spot. Still, it's something worth improving because we ended up waiting around ten minutes for each roll. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I'm a fan of Handies and I love Handies. I've been to the heights locations multiple times and the montrose location once. This location would be my least favorite out of all three. It's still amazing and if you're near the area it's a great spot. But I still like the heights location best. I feel like the flavors pop out more over there and parking theee even though not great is much easier to park than the spring branch location. The food is still amazing and I would give it alll a 4/5 fish is fresh and ingredients are vibrant and inviting.

Yelp
I've been a loyal Handies costumer for years now and frequent the Montrose location. I was ecstatic to find out that they were opening a location in Spring Branch since it's much closer to where I live. The location is also great surrounded by other restaurants in the area. There's even ample parking which I feel like is a concern for many people going out to eat in Houston. This location keeps true to the counter-only style seating. All of the servers and chefs were welcoming and efficient that it was already running like a well-oiled machine despite only being their soft opening. I ordered the three hand roll set (mosu, hamachi, and spicy tuna) but also ordered the kani and holy shiitake hand rolls. The quality of their hand rolls are great and they put just the right amount of rice so that I don't get full quickly. It's still my favorite spot to get hand rolls in Houston. Needless to say I'll be back here more often!

Yelp
Super duper excited that a Handies has opened in Spring Branch!!! This location looks like they have 20+ seats. Taylor was superrrr nice and friendly and knowledgeable. Go to order is the 5 handroll set that typically comes with Salmon, NegiToro, Real Crab, Spicy Tuna and Avocado. I also like to add an extra Hamachi Handroll or Scallops Handroll. Highly recommend ending with a Bluefin Tuna Sashimi (Chutoro). Melt in YO moufff. Also ask for a side of Chili Garlic to elevate each handroll. Parking - Back of the restaurant and shared with another restaurant/bar. Music is bumping too!

Yelp
Came here for girl's night and it did not disappoint. I'm so glad there's another location (this one is much closer to me, easier to get to, and has a big parking lot...all wins). I got a drink, the five hand roll set, and the scallop crudo. One of my handrolls had a $4 caviar add on option that I declined and they gave it to me on accident (didn't charge me, chef apologized and let me keep it). The scallop crudo was very bright with the yuzu. My drink wasn't very strong but still refreshing. Service was great and attentive and the rolls came out at a good pace. I've had handrolls all over Houston and Handies is one of the best. Coming back for another event next week and am looking forward to another delicious meal here!

Yelp
HANDS DOWN THE BEST Out of all the sushi places, Handies has got to be the most consistent and the most bang for your buck. I ate never been disappointed when I come here. I am always satisfied and still crave for more as soon as I leave. I usually go to the Heights location on White Oak but since this location opened up right down the street from me, I am in trouble! I will end up coming here at least once a week. This is the ONLY place that has gotten the spicy ponzu sauce right. I tried their chili crunch for the first time but it wasn't for me. It was a little on the sweet side. I usually get the 4 set or 5 set and at least 2 crudos. Their crudos are light and refreshing with little burst of freshness from rhe chili, cucumbers, and microgreens, depending on which crudo you get. You can't go wrong with any of them. Their seaweed for the handrolls are the perfect amount of crunch to chew. I may sound bias but I have tried many other places and they just can't compare. I don't know what they are doing or how they are doing it but this will always be my go-to. * it's time for me to go back!

Yelp
First time here and I was just craving more sushi. I ordered the maguro crudo and the onikoroshi shiboritate, as a picky drinker, this sake was really clean and refreshing, and I'm new to sake as well. I really loved the service, the servers behind the sushi bar are very accommodating and make sure that you have what you need. Also, the crudo was filled with flavor on every bite I actually asked for another order after finishing my first one. Nevertheless, the ambiance was great. It's definitely a small place so if you have more than one or 2 people definitely make a reservation. The food is definitely big in just a little restaurant that this is and just so satisfying.

Yelp
Service was great. The girl behind the bar was phenomenal! She explained everything so well. I went on the opening day where things were half off so I tried a little bit of everything. The foods super fresh and made well. The seats are close but you're not squished so I guess that's a good thing but prepare to have neighbors, if you don't mind that, i recommend this for lunch or dinner

Yelp
Hands down to one of the most delicious hand rolls place in Houston !!! 1/ hand rolls: 100/10 2/ crudo: 10000000/10 3/ drinks: 100000000/10 Forget to mention the service is bizarre!! Don't wait, please go try it yourself!!!

Yelp
We had reservations at 8 pm for my wife's birthday. The hostess acknowledged our celebration and promptly led us to our seats. The place was full and there were people waiting to be seated after we left. We ordered the 3 hand roll sets, scallop hand rolls, bluefin otoro, and kanpachi crudo. The fish was fresh and the rice was nicely cooked. The service was friendly and efficient. Since it was my wife's birthday, they gave us a maguro crudo on the house, which was very thoughtful. My rating would be 4 stars if my wife and I didn't get food poisoning after midnight. This is the first time we've ever gotten sick from eating sushi so it was a very unpleasant experience.
