The Best Restaurants in Sebastopol | Eater SF

"Handlining is an intimate style of fishing with just a line, a hook, and your hands. At Handline, an old Foster Freeze with a woodsy makeover, you’ll find sublimely fresh seafood, like fried fish tacos, ceviche, and grilled Hog Island oysters in season, alongside burgers made with organic beef. The menu is also filled with local wine, brews, and produce. Sao Jorge, a Portuguese white cheese from Matos Cheese Factory, is served as a zesty sauce that’s good on anything, including your finger. Say yes when they ask if you want fries with that: they’re double-fried, Belgian-style, in rice oil, so they’re supremely light with a crunchy outside and creamy inside." - Maria C. Hunt

Google
One of my favorite places to eat. A well rounded casual eating spot. Great oysters, crunchy fries, cold beer and creative food. They offer water and sparkling water for free which is a real treat.

What I really enjoy about this place is the flexibility of their dining – you get to select your own seat, whether you prefer indoors or out. Their commitment to seasonal ingredients means the menu is always fresh and interesting, and I can personally vouch for the Los Cabos and the Mendo; they truly satisfy.

Handline in Sebastopol offers a fantastic vibe with its thoughtful indoor and outdoor design, providing plenty of space to relax and enjoy your meal. It's a welcoming environment, perfect for a casual bite or gathering with friends. You'll appreciate the airy and comfortable setting. Free sparkling water and outdoor dining space are a plus!

Google
Delicious, fresh and local. Great service which is extra nice considering it's counter ordering. Patio fully dry when it's raining. Easy parking too. The dishes are so well done it's like being at California fine dining, but with a friendly neighborhood vibe. Love this place.

We had the fish tacos and they were pretty good. Also had the fish and chips. Fries were meh. I had their oysters and they tasted great. Nice out door area in the back. You can play ping pong out there.

Google
Nice atmosphere, great oysters. Indoor and outdoor ( “ garden, behind the building) seating. Order at the counter. Not sure what happened but my order was totally messed up, they apologized and refunded me. Busy on Sunday 17:30.

Google
Excellent service! nice staff but unfortunately the food didn’t exceed my expectations. The food was mid and the drinks were bland. They had one of the best french fries I’ve ever had!

Google
The Pier 45 soup with corn tortillas was delicious and the oysters were amazingly fresh! We enjoyed this place very much. The service was also great. A big variety of food, interesting interior like an old storage, with wooden benches and tables and enamelware. Highly recommend it is a great place worth visiting!

Yelp
The Handline was such a fantastic find! The fish tacos were absolutely delicious--crispy, fresh, and served on homemade tortillas (yes, homemade! I'm in!). The Al Pastor tacos were just as tasty--perfectly seasoned and satisfying. I also had the watermelon agua fresca, which was super refreshing and the perfect complement to the meal. What else can I say? Great vibes, fresh ingredients, and food that hits the spot. Can't wait to come back and try more from the menu! The service was fantastic too. It was dinner time but the kitchen was on it.

Yelp
I visited Handline restaurant for the first time this week and it will be my last. I ordered the fish tacos and when they arrived I could smell them as they were placed in front of me. I took two bites and the smell was so overwhelming, I couldn't finish them as I was afraid of getting sick. ( Side note, I owned a restaurant and know that fresh fish doesn't smell). I took the plate to the counter and quietly told the person that the fish smelled and of my concerns about eating them. He smelled them and said he didn't smell anything and did offer me another entree but I didn't like anything else on the menu and passed. I didn't ask for my money back or was I offered a refund. I just left. I have a very poor sense of smell and rarely smell anything that isn't pungent( think skunks) , and these definitely were terrible. I noticed another customer had the same complaint about the tacos and said he contracted food poisoning. I'm usually very understanding about restaurant service and food, they can have a bad day, however, besides the smelly fish, I noted the prices on the website were outdated and the staff never smiled. There is no excuse to not keep your website prices current (truth in advertising) and a smile is free. Sadly I will never return or recommend this restaurant. UPDATE management did contact me and apologized. They offered me my money back and I declined. I asked that they make some changes instead. Appreciated the follow up.

Yelp
We were lucky to come durning happy hour! And while we didn't get any drinks, the food was pretty good. I got the fish taco and tostadito from the HH menu and my husband tried the burger. We also shared some oysters from the HH menu as well. Everything tasted good, but not super great. What did make it great though was(what looked like) house made sauce on the table. I tried it and it instantly made the meal better :) We sat outside in the garden patio and didn't realize it had multiple levels. It was a super nice day to enjoy an afternoon meal and we saw many people enjoying their meals solo with a refreshing drink which looked very peaceful :)

Yelp
Friends and family know how much I love a good french fry and this place has always been recommended to me as having just that. Our group of five decided to meet here for a holiday lunch. I was excited to finally try their food and of course, their fries. We arrived before noon and it wasn't crowded yet (though the place filled up within 20 minutes). You order at the counter and they give you a number. We had our choice of tables and we elected to sit indoors since it was still chilly outside. Inside is welcoming and clean. We ordered: Tostadas Fish tacos x 4 Green salad x 2 French fries Food was delivered to our table and our kind server was happy to take a few photos of our group. The beer battered rockfish tacos were piled high with shaved cabbage. It came with chipotle aioli and avocado. We all loved our tacos and I was happy to share my fries with everyone. They came with ketchup and a delicious chipotle aioli dip. The fries are indeed outstanding. Light and crispy and cooked to absolute perfection. My friend and I keep saying we must go back for those fries! The green salads also came mounded with fresh greens and lots of pepitas. The outdoor covered patio area is quite nice and large. There were a couple people eating outside but I could tell it would be really nice to dine outside when the temps are a little higher. Perfect place to enjoy with your pooch. We all enjoyed our dining experience and next time, we will save room for "Ode to Foster's" with an ice cream. They have their own parking lot but it fills up quickly. Street parking available. Happy Hour daily from 3-5 pm.

Yelp
The food was really good. The girl who took our order with curly hair AMAZING and so friendly. The only issue we had was we had to deal with an extremely rude employee at the bar entrance when we ordered Ice cream. We had just easily spent $275+ on dinner (8 adult) and then spent about $40+ for ice cream cones and she shorted us on one ice cream then fought with us when we tried to get the missing ice cream. Acted like we were attempting to steal. Other than that one employee it is a really cool open spot great to have a nice dinner with friends and family.

Yelp
My friend and I went for lunch I had I had the fish tacos and she had the fish and chips. Both were really scrumptious the fish tacos had a spicy coleslaw on it and some avocado. It came with two tacos and they were big enough that I was able to bring one home for dinner that night. The staff were helpful and friendly The inside of the restaurant was comfortable. There was outside dining that looked like it could be pretty nice too. I took pictures of the food, but don't know what happened to them

Yelp
We came here on a whim while in town and it did not disappoint! The ambiance of the restaurant was casual but slightly upscale, with maybe ten tables inside and lots more seating outside, along with a ping pong table. There is a little bar top inside as well. We ordered the El Coronado fish tacos and they were some of the best I've ever had. House made tortillas, big crunchy pieces of beer battered fish, avocado, chipotle aioli, and lots of cabbage. I recommend using the hot sauce provided on the table for the tacos as well! I ordered the iced tea and my husband got the limeade which were both great too. The servers were also so friendly and attentive during our meal. We ended our meal with one of their root beer floats which also did not disappoint! Perfect for an outdoor date night with a large wine & beer selection and delicious food.

Yelp
I really like coming here after a regular appointment I have in Sebastopol about twice a month. They are open all day & have a great happy our selection. Peaceful & organic sense of style. I like the vegetarian options and the oysters are always very fresh & affordable at happy hour.

Yelp
Great food, family friendly, ambiance is welcoming. Service is fast and friendly. The soft serve is always the best dessert.

Yelp
Cool spot with a cozy atmosphere. It was a bit cutthroat to get a table. I was able to guilt a group of 3 into letting us grab a six top when it opened (as we were a group of 6 and had been waiting for a table to open up for a long time). The oysters were really good. I probably wouldn't get the tuna burger again. It was good, but didn't wow my socks off. The pumpkin side dish with mole was pretty good. They don't provide plates for sharing so it was hard to dole it out to everybody at our table. Staff was friendly and courteous. They messed up part of our order and immediately fixed it. I would try this place again.
google avatar

Teri X.

Yelp
As others have stated, this is a walk up, order, take the number stand, and your food is delivered to your table. We had to try the fries (with homemade ketchup, I think?). Also the ceviche, two (large) fish tacos, the tuna burger, and two glasses of wine. For $102.00 dollars. Goodness. While I understand the area is a popular tourist destination and yes the food was good. Plus the young man taking our order was very friendly, and food came out quickly.... that is still very high for sitting at picnic table style seating, an interior that is similiar to Chipotle with the corrugated metal, and no real incentive to go stand in line and order another glass of wine... which would have likely been the case if offered table side. Meh.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Great place! Cute patio dining area as well. Sufficient heating and shade. Small menu. We had fish tacos on the best corn tortillas. Fish wasn't greasy. Also tried the Al Pastor tacos. Nice sweet flavor. Oysters were fresh and clean. Ceviche was probably my favorite.
google avatar

Yelp
Best French fries in the county! We came on a drizzly day with our dog and sat in their covered outdoor dining area. This is one of those places where you order at the counter, you get a number card on a stick, and your order is brought out to you. So these French fries, perfect, and the main reason why I took a break from my zero carb diet to come here. They are all perfectly crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside. We also got mole oysters because I am a mole fiend and oysters are always lovely. Overall this has proven to be a great place and some day I'll have to come back for a larger meal.

Yelp
Order at the counter and they bring to the table. Menu is not large and somewhat difficult to comprehend in a short time as it reads somewhat busy for minimal choices. I felt rushed and settled on fish and chips. My wife dissected the menu rapidly and ordered ceviche. We split a bottle of Sauvignon blanc from Lodi that cost $48. Not bad, but it is from friggen Lodi. Food was good and salsa was excellent. Self serve water without refills unless you get off your ass and serve yourself. Pay when you order at the counter and therefore I probably tipped too much. Oh well, food was decent and got to the table rapidly. Seating is picnic style and parking sucks. Why four stars? Sometimes I just feel generous.

Yelp
the happy hour! with the FRESHEST oyster. had 18 oysters (one order of 1/2 dozen+ one order of 1 dozen). during happy hours u cannot chose which one u want, it is dealer's choice. but honestly it doesn't matter because they are so fresh every time we order them.
google avatar

Yelp
Small space, great atmosphere. Modern, seafood inspired decor. I had the fried fish tacos and would definitely come back for them again. Homemade tortillas really set this dish apart. Includes fresh guacamole, cabbage, raddish, sauce, and perfectly crispy fish. I had been once before and had Their soft serve ice cream after my meal. It is creamy and enjoyable. Somewhat pricey overall. Go for any fish plate. Super fresh!

Yelp
Wow, we're still raving about this lunch a day later. We drove in from the city to do some antiquing and decided to stop at Handline for lunch. Food was a solid 10/10. The oysters were fresh and well sized. My husband had the tuna burger with fries. The fries were cooked to perfection! I had the fresh catch stew, which was a take on cioppino. The corn tortillas were to die for, and as a cioppino lover, I appreciated the fun take on a beloved dish. Ambiance couldn't have been better. The back patio was lively, spacious, and beautifully landscaped. The cherry on top of our day was the soft serve cone! What a great dining experience.

Yelp
I must have come on an off day. I ordered the fish tacos. The fish was tasteless smothered in an unimpressive sauce. It came in a tortilla that looked and tasted like it came right from the package. It also had a large amount of cabbage. The whole thing had no taste. We got there right when they opened at 11:00. They seemed a bit unprepared. Actually I was anticipating a great meal and I feel bad to write a poor review but it was so disappointing.

Yelp
There are good food place and good Karma places. The food was amazing but the staff is stellar. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Especially for Nicholas. He deserves a raise

Yelp
Everything was perfect. Everything. It's very casual but the food is stupendous. The staff are happy, friendly, and knowledgeable. Order at the counter then grab a seat and they'll bring your food out when it's ready. They have a nice selection of oysters you can order on the half shell. The ceviche was perfectly balanced with bright citrus and fresh fish paired with the light crunch of house made tostada chips. The pastor tacos though... Oh man. I'll be dreaming of these for a while, I'm sure. Never had pastor like this before. The pork was cut into bite size pieces and heavily spiced with bold flavors, then crisped up perfectly. When I say perfectly, I mean they've cracked the code at Handline. These tiny little bites sized morsels were unbelievably crispy on the outside but still tender and juicy on the inside. Just heavenly. All that wrapped up in a delicious house made tortilla and topped with green salsa and pickles red onions. Recommend you hit these with a little of their house made orange hot sauce to complete the experience. They have a good beer and wine selection which seemed well curated for their menu. The menu itself is small, which I like. It allows them to focus on the dishes they do well. Sebastopol is kind of a foodie destination these days, so it'll be hard not to return here when there's so many more restaurants I want to try, but Handline's appeal is clear. Incredible food and drink in a casual setting.

Yelp
Handline is a wonderfully casual, local go-to spot. They feature a small but focused menu of Mexican/seafood dishes. After dining an another wonderful restaurant in Geyserville, we asked one of their staff what their go-to was in Sebastopol for food. Their eyes lit up and they immediately responded "Handline! Their Al pastor and fish tacos are the best." Normally I'd take this suggestion with a grain of salt but we happened to be speaking with a very helpful staff member at a 1-star restaurant. Still....the best tacos....in Sebastopol? So we had to find out for ourselves. The next day, we woke up and headed to Handline. Of all the things we order (oysters, fish tacos, al pastor) almost all were some of the best we've had. We walked in to a very casual, but comfortable and whimsical setting where you order at the counter. From there you take your number and when your food is delivered, the culinary journey takes you on a wild ridem The oysters were grilled and seasoned perfectly to where they stayed juicy while delivering a great smoky/grilled flavor. The fish tacos, while seemingly plain, had very pronounced flavors and textures. The fish was fresh, bursting with flavors and texture delivered with the fried preparation, balanced by lime and the cabbage, and anchored down by the guacamole that was placed out of sight on the bottom of the taco. The Al pastor really may have been one of the best I've had this side of the southern border. It has great flavor, reminiscent to that of Chinese roast pork. This richness was beautifully offset by the pickled onions. This was a welcome change to the normal white onions and cilantro that we normally see atop al pastor. I really appreciated one the host at our fine dining experience for leading us here. It showed their true appreciation for food and also that no matter how simple or complex, food of all types can be equally as enjoyable. I have a feeling this will be my go-to as well when I'm in town.

Yelp
Came here with the family to enjoy a nice dinner outside in the summer weather. You order at the counter and bring a number with you to the table. Everything we ordered was tasty but took a bit of time. The highlight was the soft serve ice cream. My complaint overall was that the service was slow and also they didn't have pitchers you could fill for water. So every time you wanted to refill your water you needed to get up and refill it.
google avatar

Paddington G.

Yelp
Go for the baked oysters, stay for the ambience. I've been going here for what almost feels like a decade?!?! Always fresh & clean.
google avatar

Joey S.

Yelp
Go-to spot whenever I am in Sebastopol! So many questions still linger: How do they make the french fries so good? Why doesn't every restaurant have a separate window for soft serve? Do you get the sparkling or still water from the tap? How are all the dogs on the patio so stinking cute?
google avatar

Elaine J.

Yelp
This spot was recommended to me by one of the other local merchants on my first visit to Sebastopol. I love the atmosphere: comfortable with pretty outdoor seating area. The food was very good and prepared quickly. I mistakenly ordered pork tacos instead of fish and they were replaced without fuss. That level of service is pretty rare, so, well done Handline! Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
Next level seafood, service and an incredible gathering space. I was searching for a dog friendly space to grab lunch while making my way back from the bay, and Handline was conveniently located on the Gravenstein highway. We took the pup to the garden seating, which is surrounded by mature trees and metal arches that have vines providing additional shelter from the afternoon sun. The back patio has both private tables and large communal tables, making it great for groups and social for smaller parties. We ordered a local, Sebastopol cider and henhouse hazy IPA to sip while we awaited lunch. The Ethics Zest Cider was organic, with no added sugars and absolutely delicious! I'm not usually a cider person, but was very impressed with this one! To eat, we started with a half dozen oysters (we prefer the smaller ones) and they were exceptional. Fresh and paired with a simple, well-made minionette, we would return just for the oysters! We also shared a trout fish sandwich with a side of fries. We had noticed that everyone else seated out back seemed to be loving the fries, and we were not disappointed! They were perfectly crisped without being greasy nor too hard. These are the fries you dream about, and their side sauces are also delicious! I liked the chipotle aioli best. Finally, the fresh fish sandwich (trout). It comes on a melt-in-your-mouth, brioche roll and was my favorite part of the meal! Based on our experience, I think it's safe to assume that everything on their menu will be delicious and prepared with great love and attention to detail. The wait staff were friendly and socialized with guests as they dropped food and cleared tables. I would strongly recommend visiting Handline! I will definitely be returning! Note: This place is incredible, but it is not cheap! Be mindful of pricing when placing your order. For example, the trout sandwich is $27 and you can add a side of fries for an additional $5, bringing our total above $30 for just one fish sandwich and fries... Still worth it for me, but we were a bit shocked when our lunch total reached $80!

Yelp
Been here many times and always enjoyed it. Not yesterday. There was a mistake with my order (not my fault and just an accident on the person taking orders) and they gave me 2 orders of fries instead of one and did not give me my other item. Someone, I assume the manager, came over and wasn't cool at all. First tried to charge me more to get what I ordered, then rudely said they "would eat the extra cost" of what I had ordered but didn't get. Then when he returned with my correct order he basically threw the plate on the table, made no eye contact or said anything, and walked away. I am not exaggerating. Will have to think about returning anytime soon.

Yelp
Pretty crowded and a bit noisy (for me). Communal tables. Great service and alcohol station/soft serve spot! Food was ok but sparse (tacos). Tough parking

Yelp
First time to this place. Called ahead to check to see if they allow reservations. They do not, found out when we went in the reason why. You place your order at the counter, not a fan of this option, but it worked out fine. It was not busy, there was no wait. We ordered a couple fish tacos, some fish and chips and a beer on draft (Mexican lager). First with the fish tacos, the first thing you notice is the tortilla which are nice handmade corn tortillas, there was n abundance of cabbage and the fish inside was delicious, with a very nice chipotle aioli and guacamole, we will definitely be back, the beer battered fish was nice and crispy and was not too thick. We got a side of the fish and fries and my wife raved about the fries, was so very good, the beer was great as well. Ambiance, they have ample seating, we chose to sit on the patio, it was a cold night, but the heaters made it a very good experience. Additionally they have another outdoor seating/eating area that also had a couple ping pong tables set up. Looking forward to my return visit to this place, will prob try some bbq oysters next time... and of course get me another fish taco. One thing I did not mention, the turn around time was lightening quick!

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Food is delicious ! Soft ice cream from the original Foster Freeze machine. Price $-$$ Inside/outside seating. Dog friendly. What more could you want? Big list of wines and beers It's like going to a friends backyard.

Yelp
I love it here. We've been customers since they first opened. The french fries! Oh my gosh the french fries! Sometimes that's all I order. They are so outstanding. And don't leave without getting a soft serve Strauss dairy ice cream cone. I've had almost everything here. Everything is delightfully delicious. The fish tacos, the hamburgers but dare I repeat... the fries!!

roberta t.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Handline since they opened. I love the opportunity for both indoor and outdoor seating; their food is consistently excellent- including their soft serve ice cream; and the service is always high quaility with a very friendly staff - special kudos to Nicholas who is always professional, friendly and makes sure the the customer is always taken care of.

Yelp
The food was beyond delicious! I have had bad ceviche so I was worried it wouldn't taste great but it was heavenly. It had the right amount of spicy, tenderness, and juice. The tostada was to die for, the thick mole sauce on top made it 10x better. The service was quick and easy. Was able to sit outside because of warm weather and it was beautiful. You are surrounded by nature and it was calm, almost made me want to stay after my meal was done. I will say they are a bit pricey, everything costed nearly $60 and although it is not pictured, their horchata is a must. If you are in the area definitely check them out! I will come back here again.

Yelp
Such a great restaurant in Sebastopol!! Perfect for families. I always have the Los Cabos tacos and sprinkle the orange house made hot sauce all over. The corn tortillas are made fresh in house and are amazing. The oyster selection is great, always fresh from the Pacific Northwest. The beer selection is local and top notch. Service has always been great, and the ambiance is laid back and relaxing. We have been here so many times I can't even begin to count. My wife has a salad that's always fresh, she's hard to please when it comes to salads. This was a Foster's Freeze back in the day, and they kept that vibe along with the soft serve machine! Burgers are top notch and the fries are amazing, root beer floats outstanding (when the keifiry was in business). Sometimes I would pick up my youngest daughter from school and bring her here for soft serve, our little secret;) I even knew the guys in the kitchen ha-ha!!
google avatar

Yelp
Went in on a hot day! Atmosphere was great! Had the black tuna sandwich, it was super yummy, specially with the jalapeños. After, I of course treated myself with a soft serve. I love when restaurants offer this, specially on a 100 degree day like it was. The ice cream was so good!
google avatar

Tyler J.

Yelp
Real score? A solid 4.4, easy. Maybe 4.5! I've been here for happy hour several times. Most recently today with my wife. It was surprisingly empty for a Friday happy hour. The happy hour oysters were amazing--tender and delicious with lime and house mignonette. I'm always cautious with raw seafood, but this was delicious! The happy hour wine was a generous pour of a lovely balanced cabernet sauvignon, unfortunately, I forget the name of what was served. On a beautiful Fall day like today, you could not hope for a better venue in west Sonoma County. Plenty of indoor space, plenty of outdoor space, who couldn't love this place?
google avatar

Joanne C.

Yelp
Came here because I saw they had HH oysters 12 for $34 and I love the ambiance of the spot! Great for sunny days. You order first then sit down. Besides the oysters and chowder, I wasn't too fond of the rest of things we ordered. Tostadito ($12 HH)- salmon with cheese on tortilla chips. the salmon was dry paired with the chip made this dish very dry to eat. Empanadas ($8 HH)- it was also dry Fish Tacos ($6.50 HH)- not bad but there was a lot missing like a good sauce. Rockfish ceviche- way too acidic. I would just come back for HH oysters if I was in the area, I wouldn't drive out of my way for here.

Yelp
The food wasn't terrible but for the high prices I was expecting something better. The servers were polite and the place was clean but if you want to spend $100 for two entrees then I'd suggest going somewhere else. Overall it was just a very underwhelming experience.

Yelp
Just finished watching Carla Lalli Music's YouTube video on Griffin Wilson's Nutritional Yeast Dressing and she reminded me that when I had this dressing here at Handline, I was obsessed! Well, now that I have the actual recipe, I completely forgot that I hadn't written a review of this restaurant. First of all, this place follows the farm to table concept so popular in California and in particular Northern California. I had a tomato salad here, tacos, oysters and it was all delicious California fare with a modern twist. But man, that house dressing was amazing and delicious. I really need to go back as it's been a few years since I've been back. Highly recommend! Everything I've had has been delicious. Also, I love the light and airy interiors as well as the outdoor gardens.

Yelp
Don't worry about their pricing! They put their money where their mouth is. I will happily spend $20 on fish tacos that are locally sourced, organic, and delicious as all heck especially knowing that this business is committed to taking care of and protecting the rights of immigrants. The service is always impeccable, and the decor is beautiful (not to mention the outside is stunning on sunny days).

Yelp
Wooooo good! Setting was unique and fun Broccolini was out of this world nom nom. Had a beautiful dining experience

Yelp
Handline is quickly becoming my favorite "no frills", easy going, just dang good food restaurant in the area. I stand by this next statement.... Handline has the BEST french fries in the North Bay! The service is quick and efficient. Old fashioned get a number to put at your table and they bring you the food. Water is self serve (still or sparkling). The inside is relaxing and the vibe changes depending on the season. The walls open to let air or sun in. The outside patios have multiple levels and offer a whole different vibe. I highly recommend the fish sandwich's and a side of fries (get all 3 dipping sauces).

Yelp
Came here for happy hour & it was worth it! Food was great! We ordered the clam chowder & it's a decent size bowl & more soupy not very thick but super flavorful & yummy. Fish tacos were a good size & delish. Pastor taco had good flavor but not warm enough. It could have been served warmer, maybe because it's just cold here, food gets cold easily lol. Fried oyster slider served on a brioche bun was very yummy. Fresh raw oysters were nice & sweet. Fries were my favorite lol.

Breyer C.

Yelp
The food was absolutely incredible. We got the halibut ceviche, fish tacos, al pastor tacos, and fresh oysters. Everything. Was. Amazing. If you're wondering if it's worth leaving the immediate downtown area, it absolutely is. I would've posted photos but the food didn't last that long.

Yelp
Whenever we go to the Sebastopol area, this is always the stop for lunch. Seafood is very fresh and well prepared. The best French fries!!! Straus soft serve is very good. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Service is good.

Yelp
Delicious food but it was a bit drafty inside. I was very cold and uncomfortable. The staff wasn't able to do anything to help the temperature inside.

Yelp
Gorgeous food that exemplifies great California Cuisine - seasonal, local dishes made with the freshest ingredients, ordered at a counter and brought to you in a casual backyard setting with communal as well as smaller tables. I ordered a sautéed mushroom dish with fresh spring peas that was mind-blowing - I could eat it over and over and never get tired of it - and my companion had the seafood stew, with lovely fresh mixed seafood. Bizarrely, this stew is served with corn tortillas, which just don't work at all with this dish, and there's no bread available at the restaurant that could sop up the yummy fennel-infused tomato broth - this is a real misfire, and seems both willful and deeply misguided of the chef. Our big side order of fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the Strauss soft serve ice cream is a homey touch.

Yelp
We were visiting friends in Sebastopol and they brought us to this Sebastopol standard. You can see why this place is popular. It has a great vibe, having been a Dairy Queen in a former lifetime. I would love to come back when it is summer season to also explore the outdoor spaces. It's a casual order at the window (indoors) affair, then food is brought to your table. It's a bit pricy, but that's to be expected with sustainable and locally sourced foods. We shared the Malibu Pier ahi sandwich and a house salad and that was plenty of food. We skipped the fries, not knowing they are evidently pretty good. We took advantage of the self serve bubbly water. The best feature saved from DQ was the soft serve machines and serving space. Handline now uses a Strauss organic mix that made for the best soft serve I have had since I was a kid. I look forward to another stop at Handline when I am passing through Sebastopol.
