"There’s a new Vietnamese breakfast spot in Point Breeze, and it’s brought to you by the team behind the other Vietnamese breakfast spot, TBD in Graduate Hospital. You’ll run into familiar dishes, like the banana cakes with chocolate chips, creative bánh mì, and an extensive coffee menu—just in a larger, 40-seat space. We checked out Hannah K Cafe and added it to the Hit List." - candis mclean, alison kessler
"Hannah K is the new breakfast spot from the folks behind the Breakfast Den. It’s a cozy, comfortable cafe with plenty of space for spreading out with laptops or a baby in a stroller, but the big draw is the Vietnamese American breakfast and lunch dishes. Think bacon, egg, and cheese banh mi and a rice paper roll full of scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon, and hashbrowns." - Maddy Sweitzer-Lamme
"Imagine a ravenous morning. Maybe your head is pounding from a one-night stand with tequila. Maybe you thought a quickie hot dog dinner would sustain you. But you thought wrong, and you need sustenance. Head to Hannah K in Point Breeze for the hearty and delicious shaking beef and eggs banh mí, veggie-loaded rice bowls, and banana-stuffed short stacks. It’s from the team behind TBD, so you can expect the same mix of American classics with Vietnamese twists—think cheesy grits topped with lemongrass shrimp—and signature staples like thit ko hash and fragrant crispy fried rice. Stop imagining and just get there—they open every day at 8am. Tequila need not be involved. Food Rundown Build Your Own Som'mer Roll This dish is so close to being great. No matter what fillings you choose, the roll will have a base of home fries. You can choose to stuff it with lemongrass shrimp, coconut chicken, crispy tofu, along with your favorite vegetables. While we love a choose-your-own-adventure, the classic summer roll fixins’ work much better without the potato base. photo credit: Alison Kessler Hannah Banana Cakes As they’ve proven at TBD, this team knows how to make great pancakes. They continue the trend with these golden, pillowy, banana-etched beauties. Order them. photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN Angie’s Shrimp and Grits This is a decadent mixture of creamy grits, cheesy roasted corn, green onions, and charred lemongrass shrimp that you could eat by the trough. Though we'd appreciate a couple more shrimp. photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN Shaken Steak & Eggs Bánh Mì You might expect them to excel at making a quality bánh mì, and you’re right. While there are a few options on the menu, this one, with beef coated in a citric, soy-like sauce, stands out. Two fried eggs, crunchy peppers and onions, and an eggplant pate are layered throughout. It’s slightly salty, a little earthy, and 100% delicious. photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN Rice Bowl Your typical bowl of fragrant jasmine has stumbled into the produce section. Their rice bowl is a mound of roasted corn, carrots, and pan-fried chicken crowned with a runny egg. The soy vinaigrette that it’s tossed in takes it to another flavorful dimension.
