Best Dim Sum Restaurants in San Francisco | Eater SF

"This cash-only Irving Street shop is one for the history books, dim sum, and San Francisco restaurants alike. There’s not one item drawing crowds here. It’s the proximity for one thing; cars double park with elderly folks waltzing to and from their cars every day of the week. It’s the powerful renditions of the classics for second, turnip cakes warm and with just the right give, alongside densely flavorful siu mai." - Paolo Bicchieri

The Best Sunset and Parkside Restaurants | Eater SF

"Happy Bakery’s fried taro dumpling is perhaps as indulgent a treat as one can eat on Irving Street. Cars double-park up and down the blocks running from 20th to 25th Avenue to let a passenger out for a mad dash to the tiny outlet. For less than $10, Happy Bakery provides a feast. Be warned, however, that this spot is cash only." - Paolo Bicchieri

Happy Bakery has many friendly people working there, and the dim sum and Chinese fast food are pretty good. The store has two sections. The section on the left is my favorite dim sum section. They have many different dim sum for the reasonable prices. The Chinese fast food section is more like Panda Express. You can see what you want, and they scoop it into the box. Both sides are quick and yummy!

I've been going here for decades and it's the only place I'll go for quality dim sum to go. They make a special type which my grandmother used to make and I've never found any other shop in this country or any other that carries it. Note... I've lived in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Beijing and Guangzhou... so I've been around and know good quality dim sum. The ladies there are helpful and speak enough English to get by. Just like what you'd find on the streets of Hong Kong. If you don't speak Chinese, don't worry.... just point and tell them how many orders you want. Cash only and the que can go out the door during busy times. On the other side, is a buffet of assorted ready made Chinese food to do. Great deal for 2 or 3 items plus noodles or rice dish. Just know what you're buying and like any buffet style heating systems, if the items have been under the lights too long... it can over cook and/or dry things out. Parking is usually not an issue, but it depends on when you go. I love that you can get in and out quickly even when I order $100-200 worth of dim sum for our family parties!

Food was stale! Greasy and tough orange chicken! It’s probably better if you go there early when the food is hot! It gets pretty unappealing and unappetizing later in the day! I’m not sure how frequently they refill their food but mine was definitely sitting there for a long time. Noodle dish was okay.

Lots of excellent selection for take out. Favorites include chow mein, salt and pepper wings, and vegi options, which are consistently good. Option to pre-order for big orders available.

Even though the city as a whole has lost a lot of it's flavor, I am happy to make the trip down from Sonoma to share my favorite take-out Dim Sum with my wife. Having grown up in Sunset District during the start of the 2000s, it is encouraging to see that these establishments are still standing. I can only hope to share this food and dose of nostalgia with our soon-to-be-born daughter. See you soon, Happy Bakery!

They carry a good selection of the most popular dim sum items. I consider them very good. I especially like their large chicken bun, the taro dumpling and sticky rice wrap in lotus leaf. Just a warning, the order takers are not very friendly.

Got pork buns and some dimsum. The fried taro was stale and cold. It gave off an overpowering ammonia / wasabi flavor that traveled into the nose (I think it was reheated repeatedly enough times that it started to go bad). Paid 9 dollars total, and for that price, it's worth so much more to get a bowl of pho at Kevin's down the street.
