Where to Find the Best Duck in Portland, Oregon Restaurants | Eater Portland

"When I first had their Beijing duck — after the restaurant moved from a much smaller spot in Independence — the skin was penny-toned, a sign of a delicate glaze and freshness; I enjoyed building bao buns with hoisin and scallions, while the pickings from the carcass were turned into a stir-fry to stuff into lettuce cups. Sometimes the second course changes, but if given the option it's best to ask for the stir-fry, and Happy Dragon also offers whole- and half-orders of Cantonese roast duck for those focused on the bird itself." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Our stay at the Happy Dragon Hotel in Beijing was exceptional and, importantly, a very budget-friendly option we would highly recommend. The hotel is easy to reach from the airport by DiDi or public transport (both cost around 60 yuan). The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They provided plenty of information on sightseeing, shows, and local experiences, and even helped us set up Alipay so we could use public transport seamlessly. Tours to the Great Wall or the Forbidden City can be arranged directly at the reception. Every day, we were greeted warmly and offered complimentary tea and coffee, which was a lovely touch. The location is excellent: major sights such as the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace are all easily reachable via Metro lines 5, 6, and 8. Popular shopping streets like Qianmen and Wangfujing are also close by. There’s a 7-Eleven just a three-minute walk away for snacks and drinks. The room was comfortable and perfectly adequate for a few days’ stay. The heating kept the room cozy during the cold nights of our visit (November). If there’s one downside, it’s that the bathroom tiles could use some attention, as mold has formed. It didn’t bother us, and I’m sure it can be easily fixed.

We found the hotel perfect for our short stay in Beijing. We were only there for 3 nights, but the central location allowed us to see a lot of the attraction. The hotel is situation is a quirky alley, and although we appreciated the more modern part of the city, we really liked being in this part too. It offers a climpse of the life of local people. It's a great area. The staff was wonderful and so helpful, with whatsap messages, reservation of taxi from and to airport, reservation of a private driver for the trip to the Wall and visit to Tian anmen square. They even lent us the card for the metro. The rooms and bathrooma are comfortable. We would easily go back to this hotel.

Amazing value for money, probably the friendly and most helpful staff I’ve ever had - they were so good. Helped me book Great Wall trip and tianmen square so easily. Rooms where standard and good enough (ac shower and toilet and everything we needed) got cleaned every day with free water bottles. Overall great value for money and would recommend!

Lovely place, with the kindest and most helpful staff I've ever met! Our bedroom was cleaned everyday and always restocked with bottles of water. The location is is very good and very close to two subway stations (which are highly recommended as the subway is very cheap). Would highly recommend!

Great hotel/hostel at a good location and for a great price. What made our stay memorable was the girl at the reception, Panda. Thank you for being so welcoming and hospitable. Hope to see you again.

Very convenient location, near to subway, museums, and Tiananmen Square/Forbidden City. Rooms basic but well kept, Aircon and hot showers worked well. Bottled water and fresh towels every day. Service - INCREDIBLE 😁 Help and assistance with everything from setting up a phone, booking tours, arranging taxis, train schedules, bus times, booking tickets and reservations for attractions. Truly 247 and 1st class. Made my time there perfect.
