Our stay at the Happy Dragon Hotel in Beijing was exceptional and, importantly, a very budget-friendly option we would highly recommend. The hotel is easy to reach from the airport by DiDi or public transport (both cost around 60 yuan).
The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They provided plenty of information on sightseeing, shows, and local experiences, and even helped us set up Alipay so we could use public transport seamlessly. Tours to the Great Wall or the Forbidden City can be arranged directly at the reception. Every day, we were greeted warmly and offered complimentary tea and coffee, which was a lovely touch.
The location is excellent: major sights such as the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace are all easily reachable via Metro lines 5, 6, and 8. Popular shopping streets like Qianmen and Wangfujing are also close by. There’s a 7-Eleven just a three-minute walk away for snacks and drinks.
The room was comfortable and perfectly adequate for a few days’ stay. The heating kept the room cozy during the cold nights of our visit (November).
If there’s one downside, it’s that the bathroom tiles could use some attention, as mold has formed. It didn’t bother us, and I’m sure it can be easily fixed.
