Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"It wasn’t long ago that Austin’s hot pot scene was virtually nonexistent. Now, with the addition of this Northern-style Chinese chain, we have nearly half a dozen options for boiling hot soup. Like many other places in town, Happy Lamb operates on an all-you-can-eat model, priced around $28 for lunch and $34 for dinner. It’s located in North Austin, near 183 and Anderson Mill Road." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

I recently dined here that truly delivers on flavor, freshness, and fun. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with traditional Chinese décor and a bustling, lively vibe. The menu offered a great variety of broth bases—from spicy Sichuan to mild herbal —and a wide selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles. Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh and high-quality. The thinly sliced beef was especially tender, and the house-made dipping sauces added the perfect punch. The service was attentive and helpful, especially for first-time hotpot diners. What really stood out was the overall experience—it’s not just a meal, it’s an interactive and social dining event. Whether you’re going with friends or family, it’s a great way to enjoy good food and company. Rating: 5/5 – Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic and delicious hotpot in a fun, casual setting.

Google
Solid hot pot on this side of town. It’s all you can eat with two different menu options, one with more premium meat options. I opted for the premium menu. It’s cafeteria style where you can fill your plates with whatever veggies and carbs you want. The meats were plated very beautifully. Both soup bases were very flavorful though I will say the spicy broth wasn’t very spicy… Overall, a good bang for your buck if you’re craving hot pot and can’t make it to Chinatown!

2nd Visit: I still love the place. The food is still good. Still my favorite hotpot place. I am now rating the service from 5 to 4 stars because of the following; 1. I asked for half order of meat yet they give a full order. I verified it with the server and he said, that it was half order. I compared it with the picture i previously took and they have the same count, thus, not half. I did not make it a big deal and argue with him. However, i felt uncomfortable with his answer that it was half order. 2. I hope next time they set up the tables after being used, they do it with less noise and not in rush mode (there were no many people in there) - i personally find it distracting. 3. There were dead flies in the window. ****************************************** 1st Visit: I love the food. Lots of selections. I love the ambience of the restaurant. I like big plain windows. The restroom is clean, spacious. It has good lighting, music, and diaper changing board. I recommend this restaurant and i will surely return.

Google
This is our go to hot pot spot when we’re Houston! Food is always fresh and theres a variety of meat to choose from. Our favorite is the spicy broth and the all you can eat lamb and garlic beef yummy! The staff is always friendly and they keep the food rotating. I had to take a star off because of the restaurants recent appearance. We’ve been coming here about 2 years and this last visit I was surprised on how worn out all the furniture looked. Some of the chairs had big cracks in the leather and table had a little Wobble. I wouldn’t let this stop you from enjoying their Amazing food.

Google
Absolutely delicious! The Mongolian hot pot was a flavorful and fun dining experience—fresh ingredients, rich broths, and a great mix of meats, veggies, and noodles. Perfect for sharing, highly recommend

This is was our second visit to Happy Lamb after couple of years. The first visit was at the Bellaire location which I remember had much larger variety in buffet items than what we experienced here. There were barely 3-4 items like fried rice, fried chicken, noodles, sweet and sour chicken etc. The varieties of condiments was also much lesser than another Korean hot pot we tried couple months back. We ordered the premium meats which was approx $33 per person (if I remember correctly) so definitely not cheap. We got the Tom yum and spicy broth. Tom yum broth was very good and meat was pretty decent too. Service was ok, can be much better. It was more like a cafeteria service so definitely expect better from a place where we are paying a pretty good amount per person. We went on a Sunday evening but were able to be seated right away. We were unable to find parking in the complex as despite having so many parking spots, all were full as the restaurant is in a busy complex. Dessert options are terrible here. Cheap quality cakes and pre-packaged ice creams. We ended up getting dessert from Nu next door. Probably will not be returning here. We loved another Korean hot pot (Shabu En). Excellent service and delicious dessert.

Google
A Flavorful Hot Pot Experience Worth Every Penny! The hot pot experience was fantastic, with a lively atmosphere and attentive staff. The variety of meats and fresh veggies, plus the flavorful spicy broth, made it well worth the price. The bustling environment added to the fun, and the staff ensured everything was perfect. It’s a great spot for groups or anyone wanting a flavorful, interactive meal.

Google
The concept is well organized, you choose your meat and the rest of the toppings that you add to your broth are unlimited. The products are fresh and of high quality. 👍🏻 All of this at a good price. If you are looking for Asian cuisine in the Houston area, go for it! ❤️

Yelp
I feel like this is a hotpot place that you really can't go wrong with. I love that it's a non-Bellaire option too. My group and I walked in on a weekday evening and were seated immediately. They're an AYCE hotpot restaurant priced at a similar point compared to other ayce hotpot places in Houston. My friends and I chose to have their premium menu that was ~ $30. The broths were flavorful and the meat options were solid. There's a bar area full of vegetables, sauces, dumplings, sauces and more. Service was pretty quick too.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is pretty decent. The choices of meat are solid for any hot pot places but the choices of sides is amazing. I love that there is vegetables, eggs, and other side dishes. My friends and I looooves the fried chicken. 10/10 We came in on a Sunday so it was pretty busy but it seemed as they were short staff. Nevertheless they were pretty nice. It's a clean establishment and very well lit. It's a good spot to hang with friends for sure

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday it was 60 bucks for two people AYCE style. There is a salad bar. You can also get noodles, sauces, and desserts in that area. Drinks our self serve at the fountain drink machine. The menu is a little small as far as the types of meats you can order. You can get up to 3 broths. If you get 2 broths, there is no additional fee but I think there is a fee if you get 3. The spicy broth wasn't very spicy to me but had really good flavor. The only thing I would also comment is that if it's your first time, I wish they would do an explanation. The place was very busy, it's good. The meat is good but obviously it's not seasoned since the broth is well seasoned. Overall good service, good vibes, good value.

Yelp
AYCE hotpot without going all the way to katy or bellaire! Found out if you go before 5PM on the weekends, they have happy hour prices -- 15% off. Drinks are included. Our favorite meat was the beef short plate. The bar was for the vegetables, seafood, noodles, and sauce. They also have premade hot food -- which was just ok. The fried peanuts was a nice surprise. The staff was very attentive and when they noticed we finished a plate of meat or near finished, would ask if we wanted more.

Yelp
Going again for my birthday. Staff was chill basically it's just a chill and calm vibe all around

Yelp
Always a pleasure to eat at happy lamb.... It's my happy place lol but the Chicago locations where always good ( China town location is hit or miss on freshness and cleanliness) Veggies are always fresh, sauce bar is great, drinks included and dessert varies depending on location.

Yelp
Horrible - forced us to watch CNN - refused to change the channel - wanted to "educate Texans" - won't be back

Yelp
If you haven't had hot pot, then this place is worth a try to have a taste of boiling your own meat Chinese style. We tried the lower cost ayce hot pot, was very good. For about $30 per person after tax, you can't go wrong with it. Decent choices for basic hot pot needs with their lower cost version. Free soft drinks, but wine and beer cost extra. Service is nice for a buffet, but you might need to get their attention if for example the Diet Coke is out. They also have fried chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice/noodles for your "traditional" taste. Serving areas are fairly clean as well. The plates for the higher cost one looked better, aka the angus beef, so we might try that next time. Make sure to separate your utensils for raw things and cook your meat thoroughly.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this place. The spicy broth is so flavorful and just out of this world. I can't get enough of it. Will be back soon!!

Yelp
First visit , the service here was top tier. They suggest I get the Mongolian hotpot which I'm glad they suggested because spicy bone marrow had wayyyy too much coriander for my taste. But the other one was very good. (for those who don't know coriander is a spice and it's how they make the broth) also I was actually surprised there chicken wings were very good and crispy. Over all the restaurant was clean and they were on top of clearing plates off tables. Definitely going to bring my family here next time .

Yelp
Went to happy lamb hotpot in Houston at their westheimer location. I went to their location on westheimer, which looked a little nicer than their bellaire location. I was seated immediately and chose their classic dinner all you can eat meal. Dinner is only $5 more than lunch and the meats available are the same, so I definitely recommend coming for lunch if you can. You can also upgrade to their premium meal for better quality meals, or get their Kobe beef or lamb shank as a la carte. I got the best of both worlds broth, meaning you can choose any 2 broths. I got the spicy marrow broth and the golden cabbage marrow broth. There's a self serve drink station where you can get various sodas and teas. They also have a self serve sauce bar station to make your own dipping sauce. There's a hot bar station and I tried a little of everything. They had fried rice, chicken pasta, sweet and sour chicken, eggrolls, sesame balls, and chicken wings. None of it was memorable except for the chicken wings. The wings were actually SOO GOOD surprisingly for an all you can eat place. The skin was so crispy and there is a ton of meat which was tender and juicy. They had a simple flavor but were not bland at all. The wings would empty out quickly as many ppl grabbed them, but they were periodically bringing out fresh batches. For hotpot, they have a veggie, seafood, and assorted hotpot item station where you can choose what you want to add to your broth. My favorites were the fish roe filled fish balls, meat filled fish balls, quail eggs, enoki mushrooms, and noodles. For meat, I tried the lamb, beef short plate, garlic marinated beef, and pork belly. My favorite meats were the pork belly and beef short plate. They also have a dessert station but I didn't touch it, I indulged in their freezer full of icecream, a much needed sweet treat after the meal. I had a pretty good experience here but if I'm being honest, my favorite thing I had here were their chicken wings

Yelp
Been going here for quite some time and I love the variety as well as the two sided hotpot. I have an allergy and usually my date loves seafood. Try going during the week though for lunch because the weekend is packed.
google avatar

Chien S.

Yelp
Meat selection was very limited. If you're not a fan of lamb, this is probably NOT the place to go. But if you are like me, and love lamb as well as beef, then welcome! I got their spicy soup and traditional soup. Both were a bit "medicine-y" in taste, but nice flavor once you get past that. And I got the top level spicy but didn't even get a tickle. Service was quick, although they put my food at the wrong table. Upside; there wasn't anyone sitting at the table next to me. So easy enough for them to move all over to my table. Nice selection of veggies and seafood. Even had a cooked food buffet. Your meal comes with a drink. They have a self serve soda fountain as well as a couple of iced teas to choose from. Saw ice cream, but it was dine in only. So couldn't take it to go with me back to work. So had to skip that.

Yelp
This is a casual AYCE hotpot restaurant sort of near the Galleria area. We came by on a Friday afternoon and they have a... midday special on weekdays between 3-7pm where one full price AYCE meal gets a second one for 50% off and if you have 4 people, one meal is free. We went with the premium option which includes snow crab legs and this amazing crispy lamb shank. To me, the premium option was definitely worth the try just to get some of the nicer meats and that lamb shank. They also have a bunch of premade food options and a vegetable, seafood, and misc hotpot items bar as well. Service was the only mixed bag for me, while everyone was nice, ordering more of the meat options was not intuitive. I wasn't sure whether waiters came by to check on you or if you had to call them over. It seemed to be a mix of things but we weren't checked on very often so trying to get someone's atrention to order more meat was tricky.

Kennedy B.

Yelp
Hot pot is worth it! Buffet is lacking but decent options for picky children. It's more lax than other hot pot places. It's great for lunch!
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Came by for hot pot on Saturday! They had lot of options to choose from, loved the bases as well. Place got quite packed by 1pm. Solid spot if you're craving hot pot.
google avatar

Meggy H.

Yelp
When you ordered the third plate , they gave you really FATTY FAATTTT beef , look at the ratio, almost 20 to 80 fat
google avatar

Richard Y.

Yelp
Sigh I came here for lunch. This place used to be good and had a lot of variety in seafood and non-seafood (e.g., tofu-related items). The options, however, were very limited this time, and it looks like they got rid of a lot of the vegetarian protein options they used to have (which were my favorite) If you want to eat just meat... It's fine here, but if you want the variety, I would skip this place.
google avatar

Jannipa K.

Yelp
I have not been to happy Lamb hot pot for a while. They just up to date their menu. Several items added for example shrimp balls and snow crab legs. I always order premium all you can eat which I can choose the best three broth Service was Okey. Meat was decent. I love that they have more variety of food that include hot cook food, dessert and soft dring. Selection at the sauce bar was big but mostly was so oily for example chili in oil or even garlic still in oil.

Yelp
Aesthetically, this restaurant looks really nice. Modern, sleek look with cute decorations. I believe I visited this restaurant more than 10 years ago and it didn't look as fancy as it did today. They have 1 large TV screen and were showing a football game. They also have a more secluded area for private occasions behind the main area. We picked the spicy marrow broth. Excellent flavors!!! Lots of whole garlic cloves, bay leaves, cloves, chili peppers, and other whole spices. Great for someone who loves spiciness. If you let the broth boil too long, it will become more concentrated/salty. We did premium all you can eat and chose 3 meats --- ribeye, beef short rib, and lamb. I enjoyed the lamb the best. What I didn't know is they have a buffet of vegetables, eggs, seafood, fried foods (appetizers), fresh noodles, dried noodles, sauces, and cooked food (e.g. fried rice, lo mein). There was enough proteins to skip the red meats if you wanted to. There was dessert as well -- Little cake bites and ice cream (3 flavors). The vegetables and shrimp were fresh. Buffet Favorites: Lamb dumplings, fried chicken wings, meatballs Beverage: Moonstone Asian pear sake (4/5) Adding this restaurant to my list of favorites. Need to come back to try more stuff!

Yelp
I like the concept of the buffet bar, lots of choice especially my favorite seafoods. Nice service, Half and half pot is my favorite also

Yelp
The perfect spot to warm up during the winter freeze! My partner and I came here (cautiously in the freezing temperatures during the freeze) to find a nearby hot pot place. This is close enough for us in the heights (located just west of the galleria) that it didn't feel like too long of a drive. It's buffet style where you pay a very reasonable fee for endless meat and buffet options. There's a deluxe meat package and a regular meat package, we elected for regular as we didn't feel boujee enough for wagu beef. They bring 3 meats at a time, and that was PLENTY for us. You also pick your broth, we opted for the classic half savory half spicey. We then had free range to get noodles, veggies, dumplings and all the addins. The noodles all tasted delicious, the glass noodles started to break down after a bit but the rest were great. The dumplings were really delicious especially the lamb ones. And the meat was all fantastic, the garlic beef and the round eye cuts all cooked and tasted so delicious in the spicy broth. The spiciness level was just right. My favorite was the custom sauce station - my mix of garlic, sesame, soy sauce, and tahini was the perfect addition to spicy broth cooked meat. We left so stuffed we had to sit for a bit prior to treking out into the ice. We will HAPPILY be coming back here soon.

Yelp
Workers were nice, the food was good, everything was going good until, I found a little friend in my fish.

Yelp
This is one of the few restaurant where you would feel like worth the visit.. Yes, the food along with the service is excellent!!! Our server was Bentley, who was simply amazing! Was very attentive and provided great service! Other staff will come on and check with us to make sure the hot pot temps are okay or if we need of anything. If any item that was not available on the appetizer, would quickly have it replenished!!! There's even a promotion goin on after 3pm... I would have to rate 5 stars.. for Great service, cleanliness and fresh food!
google avatar

Rebecka K.

Yelp
The food was amazing! There wasn't as many options, compared to other places. But what was offered was fresh and delicious. The place was clean and beautiful. & the service was amazing.

Yelp
Honestly, one of my favorite hot pot places! This spot has quickly become my go-to for AYCE hot pot, and it never disappoints! The location is super convenient, making it easy to pop in whenever the craving hits--and the best part? I've almost never had to wait long for a table, even when it's busy. I'm obsessed with the fresh crab here, but there's so much more to explore! They have everything: noodles, perfectly tender lamb shank, juicy wings, pickled veggies, a huge selection of meatballs, and tons of seafood and vegetables. It's like a hot pot lover's dream come true! And I have to mention the broths. They're always so consistent and packed with flavor, but the golden sauerkraut one is hands-down my favorite. It has this tangy, savory depth that makes every bite more addictive than the last--I seriously could eat it all day! To top it all off, they serve ice cream at the end, which is the perfect sweet finish to such a hearty meal. If you're into hot pot (or even if you're just hot-pot curious!), this place is a must-try.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
So glad we found this place! My boyfriend and I live in Midtown and all the good hot pot places are all the way in Bellaire!!! I am SO glad Happy Lamb Hot Pot is in Galleria. The pricing is great, selection is essentially an AYCE where you can control your own portions (for veggies, seafood, and sides), and you can do half half on the broth as a part of your AYCE piece. We went to another AYCE hot pot place that had us pay extra for broth and then an even higher extra price to do half half so this was a much better option. Decent meat selection - beef, lamb, pork, etc with other premium selections for an added cost. With the AYCE, they also have buffet style sides such as rice and chicken. They also had plum juice, lemon juice, soda, and ICE CREAM!! Their veggie and seafood selection was pretty expansive (based on my experience) and their sauce bar was well kept compared to other places I've been to. It was pretty crowded the day we went, but no wait so overall a very pleasant experience! Service was excellent and parking was easy too. Would return!
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I come here at least once a week. Food never misses, the people are super nice and friendly. The vibes are great. Love it!
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
I am generally on the fence about Hot Pot - not sure if I truly enjoy it as a meal or not. Regardless, Happy Lamb is a nice option with spacious tables, well-stocked buffet style offering, and attentive staff. We opt for the half-and-half option so everyone at the table can mix and match their spice level. The restaurant itself is clean an there is a 2 hour time limit, which is completely ample. Parking: plenty of parking as HLHP is located in a strip center
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Always great hot pot! I think they reduced their selection of meats. My go-to is always the pork belly! Today I also had the beef short plate. Those are my 2 favorites. I tried the garlic marinated beef but I wasn't a fan. Just too thick and filling for me. I'm not the biggest lamb fan. Ate way too much of it when I lived in China. But I did order natural marbled lamb. It is good. So if you are a lamb person, order that up. The veggie selection meets my criteria. I usually just like cabbage and watercress. The pork dumplings are good as well. For the broth, I recommend the half and half. The spicy side isn't spicy in my opinion. It's just perfect. I usually do my veggies and noodles in the other broth.
google avatar

Sam F.

Yelp
The food is good but not the best quality but it's still delicious! For the experience it's good. It's more about the experience than the food but of course you want the food to taste good. When you are seated by a friendly waiter, they ask what broth you want. Then they put a pot of broth in the center of the table and turn the heat on. Then you go through a self serve buffet to collect all the raw items you want. This is meat and vegetables and noodles. Then you put it in the pot and cook it at your table! It's really fun!
google avatar

Juliana C.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for hotpot! I prefer this location over the Chinatown location. This location is clean and spacious. My favorite broth is the spicy broth, it is the perfect amount of spice to enjoy your meal. Plenty of vegetables and other hotpot items. The staff here are kind and brings out your meat quickly. Only downside is sometimes they have enoki mushrooms and sometimes they don't.
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
All the meat, vegetables and other ingredients were fresh, the soup base was a little salty, we had the best of both worlds with half original marrow broth and spicy one. Service was a bit slow, but friendly.
google avatar

olderguy j.

Yelp
Have been coming here since the 80's. I cannot believe how consistently superb everything on their menu is especially all of the dumplings. Everyone has their favorites and mine is the shrimp chucked combo steamed. Try a few of their entrees if you need variety.....but I know the Dumplings are KING!
google avatar

Yelp
Houston showed up for my friend and I who haven't seen each other for a while. Happy Lamb Hot Pot is no ordinary hot pot I try to stay away from. Their selections from vegetables, to seafood, to dumplings, to the thin sliced different meats, the soup base, the cooked food section, and the deserts exceeded my expectations. Fresh, no aftertaste---just delicious food and a great place and time to be catching up. Service was on point. Very cheerful but professional, staff I almost assume they all own the place. Cleaaaaaan and no funny smell. I was raving about the quality and the price was affordable. Sweet surprise on the quality of food and affordability we hardly find anymore!!! I'm a food lover and I can stay healthy coming here! (Tom yum was my favorite soup base-you got to try it!)
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Best hot pot experience EVER! I have had hot pot in NYC, NJ, and Chicago and by far this is the best!!!! Cuts of meat are melt in your mouth amazing, seafood was super fresh, and a huge variety of veggies. Sauce bar was on point! Going back again and again! Price was also very reasonable for all that you get.

Yelp
I have tried so many hot pot places in town, and this Happy Lamb in the Galleria location has exceeded my expectations. The interior is cool and clean, and the service is excellent! There are so many choices of meat, I would recommend getting the spicy broth and Thai Tom Yum broth.

Jim K.

Yelp
Excellent service, knowledgeable staff, the server explained the whole process and offerings since we'd never had hot pot before. The food was fresh and tasted fantastic. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Happy Little Lamb makes traditional hot pot fun and accessible with the unlimited buffet of veggies, tofu, and a variety of noodles. They even have plum juice. My bf and I stayed here for over an hour casually trying all sorts of different things. Reservations recommended but we were able to walk in on Sunday for lunch for 2.
google avatar

Yelp
this is a great hot pot place if you're looking for a more chinese-style hot pot cuisine. i particularly enjoy the variety of soups they have for you to have in one table!

Yelp
This food is very good is what you pay for. the place is very clean and neat and the service is very polite and responsible.

Yelp
I've came to this place from San Antonio and hot pot food was amazing! The service was super quick every time we were out of meats the server quickly reacted and even recommended multiple meats to try. The lamb was of course is amazing and just be sure you like the flavor of lamb because it is an acquired taste! 5 out of 5

Yelp
This is my go-to hot pot place. It has an nice atmosphere, patient and kind workers, and most importantly delicious food! I've never really encountered problems as I go here in a monthly basis.

Yelp
The best hot pot I've ever had. Fresh lamb, all things are fresh. Reasonable price. All you can eat.

Yelp
Not sure how I feel about this place! Did I eat good? YES Did I feel disgusted at times? ALSO YES So I went on Dec 30th probably a very busy day in itself, my friends waited for about 40min to be seated (a group of 2) the buffet section looked really unclean and messy I understand when the place is full is going to be a bit chaotic but this made me lost my appetite. They served us the broth in the middle and we all pour our meats veggies etc I was also not so comfortable with that bc you mix your food with the rest of your group so if you have someone that doesn't want to eat seafood or meat etc they all go in the same pot I've been to other places where each seat has their own pot much more hygienic. The food was really good and can't complain much about that just the overall feeling of messiness and uncleanliness so I didn't really ate much. You have a lot of food for a budget but either way it's not a place like in the pictures. Maybe I have to come back on a slower day
google avatar

Marina J.

Yelp
This spot is great for beginners. Food was labeled and plenty to try. The drink and everything in the buffet area is included in the price. Plenty of seafood and meatless options. My son is 12 and they didn't give me a hard time which other places tend to think he's older; he's just tall. (9-12 discount)
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
It wasnt busy when my group arrived and we were seated pretty quickly. It is ayce including drinks. They had a lot of options here with various different form of lambs. My favorite was the lamb meatball! The soup base we got was spicy and original. The original tasted good and went well with the meats. I didn't have a chance to try spicy. For the price you pay, I think this place is worth it to try with a group.
