"A hole-in-the-wall gem in the Inner Richmond, this bar serves up three things: booze, billiards, and darts. Despite only having one pool table, you’ll find locals vying for the “title” in weekly tournaments, taking breaks to belly up at the bar for shots and pitchers of beer. (And if you’re lucky, the owner may pull out the hot plate and whip up some frozen potstickers, too.)" - Lena Park, Garrett Schlichte

We entered at 11pm on a Friday and didn’t let us in saying they were closing but it was pretty full and was pretty clear they just didn’t want us to be there for whatever reason. I don’t wanna believe that they’re just racist but I’d recommend people go to the Irish karaoke bar down the road it’s extremely welcoming and has an incredible atmosphere.

The happiest bar in SF! Great, chill place for a drink and some darts. Patty is the best.

Though it seems to be a quaint dive upon entry, you will soon find that it is anything but that~ order red wine, not cocktails. cheers!

Google
Happy Lounge is the jam! Patty is the best bar owner in SF. You want to play pool or darts, they got you. You want a great drink they got you. You want a great local bone, they got you. Seriously, for place is so unassuming yet delivers great caliber service.

If you are looking for a friendly dive bar in the Inner Richmond, with welcoming patrons, and an especially welcoming owner, come to Happy Lounge! This has remained my favourite bar in San Francisco over the last 7 years living in the neighbourhood, and you will just have to come yourself to experience the magic. Strong pool playing community; darts board; back room for private events... and the best bartender of all time: Patti!

Google
Just went here for the first time and absolutely loved it! Great atmosphere, people, drinks, service... Just everything you want in a neighborhood bar. Also, it's true what the reviews say about the pool game situation. Pretty intense! But definitely in a really cool way.

Google
Best bar in SF. Patti treats everyone like family. Awesome place, and good prices. Definitely left happy, and I look forward to coming back more regularly.

Yelp
I went to Happy Lounge. It's a great place - very clean. The bartender was great, I loved this place! I played pool with a girl named Clara k . She was known as "The C.K. Assassin." She's very, very good. She beat me at pool soundly. The pool table is very nice. I'll definitely come back again. Love this place!

Rachel C.

Yelp
Can't beat this bar...Darts, pool, touch tunes, and the best service in town. 10/10! Stop by if you get the chance and say hey to Patty and Harold for us

Amanda W.

Yelp
Owner patty is a great bartender and host. She's the best! Great vibes and cheap drinks :)

Brad W.

Yelp
I love dive bars because they show something unique and honest. Dive bars keep it real especially in this age where bars seem to sprout like weeds as the next hip place to go only to disappear before you know it. Happy Lounge is everything a hip bar isn't but so wants to be. It's the place that you'll keep returning and then you'll bring all your friends and then they'll bring theirs. It's where great memories are made. And that's because of Patty! She's the secret sauce. Sorry to all the regulars, the secret is out! Happy Lounge is an Awesome dive bar and thanks for sharing her with us! .... plus there's relatively easy parking in the area! Cheers Patty!!

Natasha G.

Yelp
Awesome place to grab a drink and play some pool. The staff is sweet, drinks are great and the vibe is chill. It has that neighborhood bar feel; if you come in twice they will know your name. "Welcome to Happy Lounge"

shawn p.

Yelp
Hands down best dive bar in San Francisco! Love the owners, and the regulars are great!

Alan F.

Yelp
This is the epitome of a local dive bar in the heart of the city. The owners are friendly and fun and it's like the cheers bar where everyone knows your name, unless you're new. Then we won't know your name until you tell us.

Brian J.

Yelp
I finally made it to the Happy Lounge on Saturday. The door was locked when we arrived, so we knocked, and knocked again. Someone opened the door and asked us to try with more strength next time-- apparently it wasn't really locked, rather the knob was just hard to turn. This is a serious pool and darts spot, and the patrons even compete out of state, so be sure and respect the pool players in the front when you walk by. The bar is staffed by a humorous and friendly Thai gal who will joke around with you. Extra props if you can speak some basic Thai or give a traditional Thai wai greeting. Beers are cold, fairly priced and you can bring in food from outside. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but if you are in the neighborhood and curious, it's for sure worth a stop. You may even spend the entire evening here, it's that kinda place.

Yelp
"Helloooooo" "Heyyyyy" "What's up?!" As we walked in, my party of four (two chicas and two dudes) was greeted immediately by Patty (owner/bartender) and some patrons. It may be a dive bar, but it has a fun and friendly atmosphere with a pool table, dart boards, and a juke box. Patty politely asked what the occasion was, and we noted that it was our friend's birthday and move to California. She led us to a VIP room near the back with its own dart board, tv, and plenty of seating. OK, time to get drinks as we threw our stuff down. My bf and his buddy went to the bar. It has the usual imports and domestic stuff. Typical drafts were $5 and pitchers were $15. As they ordered two drafts and a pitcher, they asked Patty how much shots were. She asked what were we thinking of. My bf wanted to start us off easily, so he chose Parrot Bay rum sitting on the shelf. There was about half a bottle left. She just gave the bottle to us FOR FREE and said happy birthday to Erica. Sweet! We left a big tip for her. Some employees offered to carry our drinks back to our room, but the boys handled it. The atmosphere wasn't too loud. The patrons were playing 70's, 80's, and 90's music, but we didn't care. It was a weird mix with Jackson 5 and R Kelly, but it was all good. Patty played a birthday song for Erica. I don't think they served food, but Patty told us that there's a bunch of restaurants next door, in case we get hungry. We ended up getting a few more drinks before heading out. Overall, it was super friendly from the start. It's a clean dive bar, including the bar, VIP room, and restroom. Parking wasn't bad at all. Two hour limits until 6pm, then its free. Special thanks to Patty and her hospitality. We would definitely go there again!

Noah S.

Yelp
This is one of those bars... it does not have a category, but whenever I am in this neighborhood I always stop by to have a drink. Patty always remembers me. If I lived in this neighborhood I would call this my living-room. When I first walked by this place Patty, the owner, came outside and said "Are you looking for your friends?" I thought, "Who is this lady? What's going on here?", but what I said was, "no, I ... uhh ... I'm just parking my car." But she insisted that my friends were inside, "or you can make new friends!", she said ... There's a certain point where my weirdness filter turns off, so I was like, "yeah, OK, I'll check out your place here, but I have a high tolerance for rohypnol, so I'm not going to be easy..." Of course, I didn't actually say that, but I went inside and, well, I kept coming back.

Alexander H.

Yelp
I had a great time at the Happy Lounge. The place has a great vibe and a wonderful bartender. There is a pool table and jukebox in the bar as well. My friends and I felt very welcomed!

Nicey S.

Yelp
Happy Lounge is a family bar lot of great times pool a must a lot of pool tournaments APA league is there . Pati the bartender / owner very friendly have great times there.

Ruggy J.

Yelp
True to its name, it's not hard to feel happy when drinking at Happy Lounge. After some ass kicking on the skee ball court and consuming a full plate of chicken fried bacon across the street at Buckshot, a little pixie from NYC and I sauntered into Happy Lounge for a game of darts, pool, and some seriously friendly company. I don't live in the neighborhood, but the crew treated me as though I was a regular patron. Smiles from ear to ear that'd rival any cosmetic surgery The Joker could perform with a pocket knife, and folks who literally got up out of their seats to explain how to play dart cricket on the other end of the bar. What's not to love?!

Wendy C.

Yelp
If I could give Patty and Happy Lounge 10 stars...I would. Met some old friends here on a Friday night before heading to Night Bloom and late night dinner. But after meeting Patty and having a few rounds of beers, drinks and shots with her none of us wanted to leave...EVER! There is something special about a dive bar in the City with cheap drinks, cool vibe, pool table, darts, and a jukebox playing 80's music...that something special is owner and bartender Patty. Patty is so warm, welcoming, and utterly candid in the most endearing way. She is the most real and adorable bartender I have ever met. She and I were instant friends...she even invited me behind the bar. Which I imagine is much like a cook letting you into her kitchen. I hear Patty used to have a Thai restaurant and still occasionally makes curry for her bar patrons. Did I tell you that Thai food is my absolute favorite food and that Thailand is my fav vacay destination? Happy Lounge is now my fav dive bar. And Patty...she's just my fave!

Jane N.

Yelp
C'mon, get happy. I mean it. Turn that frown upside down with a deep, deep dive into this truly triumphant little neighborhood bar on Geary. While it's certainly off-the-beaten track, it'll be your new home (far) away from home any night of the week. Friendly faces, a jovial bartendress and games galore set up the foundation to the space. Add to that some seriously professional regular patrons and happy is what you'll be. These folks will give you a tour of the private party room, teach you how to play darts, offer you first dibs on the pool table and generally treat you like an old friend. In true dive bar spirit, drinks are cheap and they've got plenty of solid, if simple selections on tap. Don't expect mixology and don't expect everyone to have a full set of teeth. It's a nice stop if Buckshot gets too rowdy. So throw some ones in the Juke Box, it's time to get loose.

Yelp
Good God. They took Ivy and rebranded it the "Happy Lounge". Freakishly terrible bar, and I like terrible bars. I mean, I really like dive bars, but the tragically misnamed "Happy Lounge" left me feeling sad. I live right around the corner and down the street from the place, so it is just about the closest bar to my house. Essentially for that reason, and my love of karaoke, I would go to Ivy. Ivy wasn't that good a bar either though, and I am rather confused about being nostalgic. I think I have a good analogy.: A guy goes to the dentist and the dentist says "you need a root canal" and starts drilling away. The patient is lying there, hating the root canal and remembers fondly the last visit to the dentist, when he only had to get a filling. That's the difference between Ivy and Happy Lounge. Karaoke machine has been replaced by a dartboard, and the bartender doesn't have darts. Sigh... In summary Happy Lounge = Sad Jake Next time I will go the Buckshot, or 32's or Plough and Stars, or 540 Club, or, Bitter End, or Would You Believe?, or The Hearth, or the front entrance to Roosevelt Middle School with a 40oz in a brown bag even.

Yelp
Definitely not the funnest or the trendiest place. I don't know when people would actually be curious about this place to want to wander in here. Some of my coworkers and I decided to come here for HH to relax after work. Parking was not difficult as it was just a bit past 6pm. The gang has been here before so the owner recognized them. We ordered a pitcher of Stella to share. I looked around the place, not too big, not too small, kinda cozy. They have darts, a jukebox, a pool table, and..free food? Yes, the owner offered us free ox tail that one of her regulars had made and brought in to share. It was pretty good, but I thought that was a little weird, in a good way. The owner started buying us rounds and rounds of shots! My coworkers must've spent a pretty penny the last time they were here because all we kept ordering were just pitchers of beer. It was a few rounds of Patron Silver, then Jameson. We sparked up a conversation with the owner and she seems to be in the bar business for quite sometime now. She was kicked out of her previous location in the Richmond and relocated to the present one. She seem like a genuine friendly person and easy going as well. I had a fun time. Not somewhere to go if you want to meet someone but maybe a place where you would not have to worry about being harassed I guess? Bring friends though because this place is pretty empty and is only filled with middle aged to old men, I believe besides the owner, I was the only female there that night.

Steve F.

Yelp
The most welcoming bar I've ever been to. The owner and patrons treat you like family and made my whole group feel like VIPs.

Julie B.

Yelp
Hello good times!!!! I found this place on Yelp and couldn't have been happier. Filters were $, dive, pool table, darts, etc. Done and done. The owner Patty was graciously fantastic!!! I was there on a Saturday night with about 15 other friends to mildly celebrate my husband's birthday. Patty took care of a couple rounds and was so thoughtful with a bottle of champagne from her back fridge. Seriously, could not have asked for anything more. So I think I'll head back there this weekend. :)

Andi I.

Yelp
This place is great! What makes it great is the lady behind the counter, a no shit taking old korean lady. she'll cook food sometimes seating all around the bars 1 pool table in the front very laid back, a little cluttered in my opinion and the ceiling feel a little bit too short parking might be a problem because it is on geary only drink i bought here was cofee. pretty damn good coffee i dont know about the prices for alcohol because no one seems to complain and the little old lady isnt shady wit the amount of booze pretty cool neighborhood bar

Dave A.

Yelp
Happy Lounge is hands-down my favorite bar in the Richmond neighborhood (if not the whole city!) Aside from being mere blocks from where I live, everyone at Happy Lounge treats me like me like an old friend, despite only seeing me somewhat infrequently for a couple of months. The "VIP Room" in the back makes it an awesome place to bring a group of friends -- your own private dartboard and television, and a funky old couch complete the ambiance. And I couldn't possibly write a review about Happy Lounge without mentioning the owner, Patty. She's like a mother to her patrons; she feeds us and makes sure we are comfortable and happy. Whenever I walk in, she gives me a hug and knows my drink order (Vodka Collins). As long as Happy Lounge is around, I'll always come back!

Brian K.

Yelp
What a great little local bar! Bartenders are great, fun games and minus the over zealous hipster crowd that can't get enough of themselves.. This place still reminds me of old San Francisco.. Oh and the best pool table around..

Patrick S.

Yelp
One of the odder bars i've stumbled into. The regulars are all nuts. But the owner lady is awesome and there is a pool table. And usually free food

Marlon T.

Yelp
This is the happy lounge that will provide you with much happiness. It's a small joint in the Richmond district that is complete with a pool table and a money-hungry Asian woman who wants you to buy, buy, buy. She will make many comments that hint you to buy more (like "see you next time" or "what does your friend want?"). I mean, I don't think any of this is bad/annoying at all. I actually think it's very funny for what it is. She is doing nothing wrong but being a business woman behind a bar. She might not even card you but just say, "you're over 21, right?" She has bills to pay too. With all this said, my experience here was great and I recommend coming here if you're waiting in the area for something. We were waiting for a friend to arrive behind we walked down the street to To Hyang. Friendly service and decently priced drinks? HAPPY LOUNGE!

Dennis S.

Yelp
I came here for a fundraiser. Their strong drinks, friendly service from bartender and staff will invite me to come back. It's a good dive bar, with pool table, darts and even a sort of VIP room up and around the ramp. I would specifically use Happy Lounge as a good start to the night aka pre-game spot aka building up an alcoholic jacket for those cold SF nights (especially because we had to park blocks away).

Wade G.

Yelp
Fun friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices. Owner comped a round of Tequila for the bar when I was there tonight. There were about 40 people at the time. It was for the Giants victory to seal the World Series. Local crowd and definetly just good folk, best bartender service in a very long while for me. She was fast, social and provided awesome service and suggestions when I asked. It was her first night working there. Hope she sticks around.

Randy L.

Yelp
Lots of pool tournaments, breakpots, and happy people who meet regularly. I look forward this "Barbox Mecca" in The Richmond District of San Francisco. Lots of diehard Giants, 49ers, and Warriors fans can also be found here in one of the busiest dive bars centrally located by mass transit. Checkout www.nomadpool.com for more info. $2 PBR on Thurs. APA 4 nights a week, dart league on Weds if that's yr cup of tea. Friday and Sunday $10 pool tournaments w/ a free red drink chip- good for beer or well drinks. Open pool table 24/7 with Simonis cloth, red dot Aramith cue ball, and a great group of shooters!!! Hot gals and good guys have been known to frequent this JOINT...etc. IMO

brian p.

Yelp
This is a local spot so if you're not a local you need to not come here. The service is simply wonderful and you feel like you're at home. The prices are reasonable and the music selection is awesome

Priscilla C.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. Nice people, chill music. Lots of regulars playing pool, darts, just hanging out. Not hip, not pretentious, just real.

Lisa M.

Yelp
I LIKE IT! see y'all there for pool on thursdays (when my team plays there) and tiny tournaments on the weekends! ps everyone is hella nice...

Lindsey S.

Yelp
Came in here with a group of friends one night. This place is decent, but not a place that I would make a point to come back to. There is a pool table which is nice. We got a pitcher of beer for a reasonable price. Our group doubled the number of people in the place. There was a lady in there wearing the flip flops that you can get when you get a pedicure but forget your own...with socks. I'd come back if friends wanted to, but I think that there are better bars in the area.

Richa S.

Yelp
Hit this place up if you want cheap drinks and if you're just bar hopping. I went here on my birthday it was my third bar that night and they gave me a shot of something dark, and they made us a jack & coke which was soooooo ridiculously strong that we couldn't finish it! The people here are really nice, the bartender helped me find my way to the bathroom (yes I was THAT drunk) hahaha

Daniel M.

Yelp
This is my neighborhood bar. Great place, very intimate. Patty is the best there is in this business. She will remember your name and your drink!

Lauren Q.

Yelp
Love this place. Love Patty. Good vibe. Good music (oldies). Gotta get my Earth Wind & Fire, Funkadelic, and O'Jays in somehow!

J P.

Yelp
Great owners!!! Pool players galore, reasonable drink prices!!! If ya wanna go dancing or listen to people who cant sing go somewhere else!!! If ya want to play some high end pool and swim with the sharks : ) or maybe throw darts, drink with a friendly crowd then this place rocks!!!

Craig E.

Yelp
This place is really weird and slightly awesome, just don't go in here thinking you're going to win a game of pool, it's where the pros go to play...trick shots to the face!

Chris B.

Yelp
Been here a few times and already feel like part of the regular crowd. Patty has always made me feel welcome and remembers me when I walk in. I'm not part of the pool playing crowd this place seems to attract, but that doesn't mean I don't have a great time. Good drinks, friendly conversations with regulars, and a jukebox. All the essential elements of a good bar.

Keith A.

Yelp
There's so much win in this bar that I fear it getting ruined by a good review

Mary V.

Yelp
I love happy lounge!!! Came here on a whim a few months ago and patty welcomed me and my friend. Came back a few weeks later with more friends and patty was even more awesome. Such a great neighborhood dive bar and awesome owners. I'll be coming back here for a long time.

E B.

Yelp
We come here to have drinks and play pool and we always leave happy. Maybe that's why it's called Happy Lounge! Very friendly bartender and nice people inside. Prices are very reasonable and they also have juke box and darts board. In addition, there are several good restaurants around if we feel like eating afterward( Chinese, Indian, Sushi, etc ...) Strongly recommended.

Skate B.

Yelp
Great place to be, especially all the regulars, old school, easy going, great music, good pool players, no sign of any trendy or fake attitudes, this place will take you back, ((1 to 35 years back )) it's like a time machine haha. I guess happy means no worries no worries means happy :) NO NEED TO FAKE IT TO KICK IT IN HERE :D

Tony W.

Yelp
Sorry to hear somebody misses the old bar. Ivy bar was a typical Korean owned hustling bar where the pretty girl bartendars that doesn't know how to make too many drinks ask the guy customers to buy her shots to boost sales for the owner. You're right about the name Happy Lounge being a bad name! The name is kind of corny like a cheap restaurant or something. Ivy bar couldn't stay in business because not too many guys can afford to keep paying for the girls to drink nowadays when many people are worry about layoff. If you think about it, the reason to go to bar is for you to drink- not for the bartenders. The truth of the matter is that even the bartenders doesn't really wanted to drink everyday! Most of the people you see here now at Happy Lounge are faithful regulars and this is where everybody knows each other's name. They don't hustle and the regulars are good peoples. I find that finding parking was a pain on saturdays.

Marian G.

Yelp
Such a random place.......but a Happy Time :) A friend brought me here for Happy Hour, Happy Lounge at Happy Hour? Sounds great. Good deals, nice people, interesting place.

Lauryn L.

Yelp
Patty (the owner) was so welcoming and introduced herself immediately. We got some beers and she offered us some spicy basil chicken and rice , home made thai food she made. Everything was awesome! Will definitely come back!

Cherry I.

Yelp
Looking for good dive bar? Check this place out. It's a cool, chill spot with an awesome bartender. What's up Patty... I'll be back soon! Drinks n ppl r all good n generous. There's a pool table, darts, jukebox, and tvs for sports. There's also a variety of restaurants in walking distance if you get hungry. 5 stars all the way!
