Happy Opu - Review - Kahului - Maui - The Infatuation

"Inside a Korean grocery store that looks like a warehouse is Happy Opu, a takeout breakfast and lunch counter for classic Korean flavors in bento form, like spicy pork or kalbi, and generously stuffed kimbap. This alone makes Happy Opu stand out on an island with few Korean options, but they don’t limit themselves to classics: you might find fried rice arancini served with a kimchi dip; hotteok mochi roll, like a cinnamon roll, but make it mochi and fried; and a manapua version of a breakfast burrito. No matter what you get, check the banchan fridge for the pickled pohole salad, our new favorite way to eat the local ferns." - Martha Cheng

Super cute, absolutely delicious. While the Manapua's were good. The pork balls stole the show. These tasty liitle nuggets were absolutely fire. If you like gyoza these will blow your freakin' mind, they are all meat no filler. I can polish a 6 pack of balls easy! Stop in, grab your balls! You'll love it.

I visited here when I went to Maui to visit some friends and wanted to satisfy my Asian itch, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find a place that sells Asian groceries and meals in this area. There were many interesting items on the menu, and I got an ube jian bing (kind of like a Chinese crepe) as well as some shumai. Very delicious! Highly recommend this place, and I wish there were more places like this on the island.

If you love the classics then you must have the char siu -sweet savory super soft steamed bun. If you’re looking for something with a modern twist, try the pepperoni pizza steamed bun. But If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, then go straight for the super rich miso caramel brownie. Yum! If Mochi rolls are Ah and the pork hash is the best you ever tasted. your jam, Happy Opu’s are baked like a cinnamon roll but have a layer of fresh mochi and custard then painted with mango butter. My fav is the one with green tea mochi and condensed milk. Oh and don’t forget to try the Ube which is super good, topped with cream cheese icing. If you can visit this locally owned shop and leave not addicted you’re better than me. I almost forgot…the pork hash is the best I have ever tasted!

I love Happy Opu! They’ve got great bentos and manapuas! Also try their refreshing drinks!! My favorite is the mango lilikoi iced tea. In addition to their fresh meals, their Korean grocery mart section has such great selections… kimchi, anchovies and lots of yummy Korean Ice cream and ice pops!

We visited Happy Opu for the first time back in September and were easily blown away by the diverse selection of hot and cold Asian foods. We were especially excited about the freshly made bento boxes and delicious drinks. Happy Opu also has amazing homemade kimchi for purchase! Will visit again!

Google
Happy opu was absolutely amazing. The food was fresh and so flavorful and I love that they had a Korean shop within it that I notice had so many things that would be hard to find anywhere else! And the atmosphere alone was comforting and had a real homey vibe about it. I just love this place. I will definitely be going back!

Google
One of the best places to shop for Korean food on Maui! The food there is delicious and it might be the best kimchi on the island. It’s definitely worth checking out when you’re on your way to Costco or Rowena’s.

Such a fun grocery store near the airport! Definitely stop by before you go on your Maui adventure. I loved their lunch boxes, Korean sushi, dim sum, etc. such great take out food for the road!

Yelp
Today, my friends and I were eager to explore the new menu at Happy Opus following its transition with the Korean Marketplace. Unfortunately, our excitement quickly turned into disappointment. We ordered the kalbi, shrimp and pork hash, and a rice cake. The kalbi was particularly underwhelming; it was overly chewy, and the marinade lacked the depth we expected. For a better experience, I'd recommend checking out Pearls or Wons instead. The banchan also fell flat--lacking flavor and leaving us feeling unsatisfied. On a positive note, the shrimp and pork hash was enjoyable. While the sauce wasn't as thick as we remembered, it packed a flavorful punch, making it the highlight of our meal. However, the rice cake was a letdown, being surprisingly dry and not something that should be on the menu. Given this experience, it's hard to envision a comeback for Happy Opus. I fondly recall their original offerings--especially the manapuas, pastries, and drinks--which were consistently excellent. Here's hoping they can return to that level of quality.

Yelp
My friend and I wanted to try this place out, despite my family and friends never hearing about. It's a small storefront hidden behind a fence & bushes. We ordered the pork hash. It was not flavorful. Tasted like just pork and garlic, then steamed. The pork hash was hard and rubbery. Comes in a set of 4. We also ordered a kind of Korean pancake. This dish was okay. Dipping sauce was a bit bland. The one thing that stood out for me was the prices. My friend and I thought that the prices were fairly expensive for the amount and quality you got. (Example, rice cake for $5-6 each, four pieces of pork hash for $5-6?). I'm glad to pay higher prices for good food, but we both did not enjoy our food choices here.

Yelp
They're taking a break a bit on their manapua (which I'm looking forward to their return) , but in the meantime, I do love the options they've offered since like their Bulgogi Gimbap - Miguel Morales Photography

Yelp
Finally a spot that specializes in manapua! Maui is lacking so this is a nice treat. The only other spot for manapua is 711 which is ok, but so nice to have happy opu make fresh ones daily. My bf and I are visiting family here and found this spot thru Yelp! Def was intrigued by the baked manapuas as we've only had the steamed. We ordered: - Baked charsui manapua: our fav! Filling was good, super savory, and not too sweet. - Baked kalua and cabbage: this was also good, but prefer the charsui for more flavor! - Shrimp & pork hash: came in 3 pieces with a side of chili shoyu and it was stuffed! Loved the shoyu sauce for a bit of flavor. - House made POG: refreshing and sweet! Would love to try the calamansi next time also. - Egg tarts: the custard filling was just right, not too sweet and not eggy tasting. My bf enjoyed these with a light fluffy crusting. Overall, would recommend and come back. They also have cute opu merch like shirts, plushies, wooden utensils, etc. :)

Yelp
Happy indeed! Drive slowly because you will easily drive by. There is parking next to Happy Opu so don't worry. It's a grab and go type of place. Staff are hard at work behind the counter making fresh manapua's. You won't be disappointed because these buns are big, hun. I hope they will bring out some new vegetarian items, however the ube was amazing! Meat buns were jam packed and my colleagues said they are full of flavor. Please tip these wonderful folks!

Yelp
Yesterday, we came here based on other people recommendation. We ordered manapua steam buns and pork hash. The manapua has very little fillings and the bun has a weird taste to it- sour and it's not same as we got from Oahu. Fillings are not good either. Pork hash is not even a pork hash you would see from Oahu. The wrapper fell off and inside like a piece of meat ball. Got a weird taste also. I wouldn't recommend this place. Good thing, we only got two things to try out. Wont be back.

Yelp
Nice local bakery serving very good baked goods both savory and sweet. Great people and outstanding service making the effort to make sure their customers get what they want and want what they get. A little pricy but understand they're kind of a specialty store. Everything is very fresh, visually appealing, and tasty. Come stop by, they're a good place with a casual ambiance, they only do take out, and well worth the visit.

Yelp
I'm so happy knowing Maui has a manapua shop again. It's been a few years since the other ones closed down. I had plans to go early as I heard they sell out, but it was storming that day & well, I didn't make it in early. About an hour & a half later when it got better, I didn't see anything on instagram that they were sold out, so I decided to head over. With just 2 people in front of me, there was still lots of manapua left. Decided to go with 6 baked as that seemed like a better deal & some pork hash. Got the chicken curry, charsiu, & kalua pork & cabbage. The buns are soft with a slight crisp. I'd say the meat to bread ratio is pretty good. Don't be thrown off, the charsiu is brown not red. It was kind of the more stewy type. Flavor was good, but it's not your typical chinese style if that's what you're expecting. Kalua pork & cabbage had a good ratio of pork to cabbage & the cabbage was cut small, so you're not pulling out huge pieces with every bite. Pork hash was not bad, it said there was shrimp in it, but I didn't taste any. Although I did read some reviews of people saying shrimp overpowered theirs. It was very flavorful & to me it didn't need that sauce. Didn't get to taste the curry one, but the ones who ate said it was good. The almond cookie was just ok, it was a bit too crumbly for me. Pricing is on the higher end, especially the pork hash, but it's Maui. It's not like the ones on Oahu, but I think it's better than the previous manapua shops we've had here. They have the cutest manapua merch too, got myself a sticker. Service was good. Will have to back to try the other things.

Yelp
Finally a decent manapua place on Maui. On this day I picked up char siu, kalua pork & cabbage, and chicken curry manapua. Also got some pork hash. The bread buns are soft with a slightly crispy crust. The fillings are flavorful and made fresh (at least it tastes like) not purchased by somewhere else and filled. Special note, the char siu was sweet and can taste star anise and Chinese 5 spice. Was good. The pork hash was outstanding. Service was efficient and friendly Definitely coming back

Yelp
Happy Opu is located in the old pizza shop across from Kia Motors on Wakea. Parking is available on both sides of the building. The store is not a traditional manapua shop like you would find in Chinatown Honolulu or San Francisco. Their baked manapua is huge with a heavy filling of meat. They are price breaks for ordering 6 and 12 pieces. I ordered one dozen baked char siu bao for $39, which is a big savings from $4 each. The pork hash or siu mai is a little heavy on the meat. They are filling, but I think the recipe needs to be modified with some mushrooms, shrimp, and oyster sauce. The takeout restaurant has a variety of desserts. Service was good, but I could tell they are working to improve. I hope they can make it by expanding their menu and improving on what they have.

Yelp
Was very excited for Happy Opu to be open and to try their manapua, rice cake, pork hash and almond cookie. For our first visit we got a little bit of everything so we had a good sampling. We picked up at opening, and only baked manapua were available for the day. We ordered the following manapua flavors- ube, kalua pork and cabbage, curry chicken, char siu and azuki bean. The manapua bread was light, fluffy, and tasty. We enjoyed the ube, chicken curry and azuki bean. Char siu and kalua pork and cabbage were okay. A garlic chicken, teri chicken or sweet potato manapua may be interesting options to add to the line up. The rice cakes had good flavor and the moist spongy texture was perfect in the center, but the outside of the rice cake was way too dry. The almond cookie was huge. Just the right sweetness, but I prefer my almond cookies crunchy instead of soft and crumbly. Got a 3 pack of the pork hash and the shoyu sauce that accompanied it was a nice touch. Not sure if they would consider making a shumai with pork and shrimp. Will be interested in trying a sweet pie next time around and will reorder the items that we did like.

Yelp
Maybe the hottest foodie score on Maui rn (early February 2023) is Happy Opu, a brand new manapua and snack shop in Kahului: they're still gearing up and sell out every day, so it's best to get there early to avoid being disappointed. As of today it's not possible to order online or in advance but they told me they're definitely working on it. And they plan to open more days of the week as soon as they can get staffing ramped up. Currently they're only open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7 AM till sellout. Find them at 60 E Wakea Ave #101 in Kahului. Their star item is manapua, with savory flavors like char siu, kalua pork, and chicken curry, and sweet varieties like ube. They also offer cinnamon rolls, rice cake, fruit pies, almond cookies, and pork hash, as well as drinks. There's a lot of great merch too, including T shirts, plushies and squishies of their logo mascot (a smiling steamed manapua), stickers, key chains, and more. The interior is bright and cheery, with cute signage and decor. Service is friendly and helpful. The food I tried was all delicious, though I did find their char siu a bit sweet for my taste, with pronounced hoisin sauce notes. The baked manapua dough is light and delicately sweet, just right for all the different fillings. The kalua pork was nicely flavored, moist, and tender. Pork hash with shrimp came with a shoyu-based dipping sauce, which was a great complement to the mix of flavors in the dumpling. Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5

Yelp
Maui finally has a manapua shop! I typically go for baked char siu over steamed, but that steamed bun is perfect! I like that the bread isn't overly sweet. They make really great pork hash as well, probably among the best I've tried on Maui.

Yelp
The food is great! If you call early they will tell what's on the menu for the day and you can order for pickup later on - The order was ready at the agreed time and it was easy to add to (saw something that looked good when I went in!)

Yelp
Finally made it to this place. Was worth it. I really liked the sauce that came with the pork hash, gave just the right kick. I personally don't like hot mustard, so this was the perfect sauce for me (hawaiian chili pepper) Rice cake reminded me of puto, definitely a good size, too Cookie is huge. Texture reminds me of the cookies we had from school days (favorite part of school lunches) Definitely going back, I need to get the manapua. The people there are super friendly and helpful. You can also now place your orders in advance, just call them and my order was ready when I got there. Love it.

Yelp
Loved this little bakery so much!!! I have been on a hunt for a good manapua for a LONG time so I was super excited when I found Happy Opu!! It's hard to find a BAKED manapua or one that's not all bread and minimal filling, but their photos looked promising! We got a couple flavors to sample and fell in love! The bread was fresh, the fillings were flavorful, and the filling-to-bread ratio was awesome! After our little taste test we bought a dozen to take back home with us to Kaua'i. We froze a few to enjoy until our next visit! Kalua Pork is my fav! Also the pumpkin seasonal one!

Yelp
This place is awesome!!!! I love the food especially the desserts and my girlfriend loves the kim chee!. They have awesome customer service. All of the ladies are very friendly and are very helpful in helping the customers know what is what especially me because I can't read Korean. I actually found this place when I was cutting my hair at the Fantastic K's Hair Salon. I asked where can you get Korean yogurt and both the ladies said Happy Opu. Awesome!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Very clean inside and girl at the counter was friendly. I got the kalua pork with cabbage, chicken curry, and chicken adobo baked manapuas as well as the pork hash. Each manapua is heavy and loaded with the fillings. The kalua pork was my favorite! It was excellent! Chicken curry had a good amount of spice and curry taste wasn't too strong. The chicken adobo was unique. It had a lot of pepper and not too much of a vinegar taste which I thought was interesting. The pork hash there says 'shrimp pork hash' however I did not see any pieces of shrimp in the pork hash unless they're tiny and I didn't see however the pork hash was still enjoyable. I would come back and try other things. Hopefully steamed manapua will eventually come on the menu.

Yelp
Maui has been lacking when it comes to Manapua (Char Siu Bao) and other dim sum favorites like pork hash. When I heard Happy Opu was going to fill this gap and was centrally located in Kahului, I couldn't wait for them to open! Located at 60 Wakea Avenue in an industrial looking warehouse building in the exact spot Pizza in Paradise once was, Happy Opu is definitely convenient. Parking, however, can be challenging, as there are other businesses toward the back which use up the stalls there too. No street parking unless you park past the Napa Store there, off of Hoohana Street, but that too may be limited. The inside area for customers is small, not like the Pizza in Paradise setup. Very limited space for patrons to wait for their orders inside, but if you go outside to wait, it's pretty spacious in front. The manapua is pricey at $3.99 each but they are discounted if you buy a half dozen or dozen. Just not by much. A big change from the $2 range of manapua in Honolulu. The pork hash was also very pricey at 3 small pieces for $5.99. I thought it was going to be spectacular but it was average tasting and bite-sized. Came with a Shoyu-type dipping sauce, which my other-half found too salty but I actually liked. The manapua was big, about the same size as Char Hung Sut, but the baked ones I got was a little dry and very bready. Not much sweet taste to the bread either. We got the char siu and the kalua pig and cabbage ones. I must say, the kalua pig and cabbage manapua was really good but I did throw some of the bread away. The char siu manapua was ok, but the char siu had a very strong hoisin flavor. At least they make their own char siu sauce! The workers there were super friendly and the wait was about 20 minutes from ordering to paying to receiving our order. Credit cards accepted and they also have a bunch of Happy Opu Knick knacks you can buy as well. Not too bad for something Maui needed, but I need to get used to the pricing before going again. I'd like to try the steamed manapua someday, since they seemed to have sold out when we went around 11 am. Oh and the rice cakes looked pretty good. Small loaf pan shaped, which was pretty cool and also lacking on Maui. I'll update this review when I visit again! Thanks for giving Maui another choice for convenient and hand-held meals!

Yelp
SO excited to try Happy Opu because Maui needs a good manapua place! It's located in the former Pizza in Paradise location on Wakea Avenue. Parking can be limited. For their soft opening they are open Tuesday - Friday from 7 am until they sell out (usually around 11 am). Their operating hours will change once they have their grand opening which hasn't been set yet. There is no seating inside. It's strictly take out only. They have baked and steamed manapua, pork hash, rice cake, cinnamon rolls, almond cookies and small pies. There's even a cute merch section inside too! I tried the pork hash and kalua pork & cabbage baked manapua, mostly because that was pretty much all they had left. The pork hash portion is pretty big. They are juicy and really tasty. It comes with a spicy shoyu sauce that goes well with the pork hash. They give you more than enough sauce but the little paper container it's in leaks so be careful not to tip it on the way home. The kalua pork & cabbage manapua is exactly what it sounds like. It's kind of bland but I added a drizzle of the pork hash sauce on it and it really added to the flavor. The almond cookie is huge! Almost 6 inches in diameter. It's really flaky and crispy on the outside and kind of chewy on the inside. It has a great almond flavor that's really yummy! For best selection it's best to go when they first open. They sell out of a lot of items within their first hour of being open. I can't wait to go back and try more manapua!

Yelp
I will preface this by saying IF YOU'RE EXPECTING " LOCAL" OR EVEN DIM SUM-TYPE FLAVOR FOR THE CHAR SIU, YOU WILL NOT BE SATISFIED. With that said, Happy Opu is a little manapua shop that opened in the Kahului area, where Pizza Paradise used to be. They have their own parking, which is fairly ample. Upon entering, the space is big, open and bright. And very cute! They've got some Knick knacks like shirts, keychains, and stress manapua balls available (I bought one lol). Their display case on the left has the manapua with tags, there is a cool display case featuring their pies, and a little area for the pork hash and rice cake. I've tried: - char siu, baked: hearty! Lots of filling. Bread was dry (seemed a bit over cooked) but tasty, sweet even. Not a fan of the inside. It was stewy in consistency and had a bit too much star anise and hoisin flavor. Not bad, just missed the point a bit. - jackfruit, baked: vegan take one char siu. Not bad, considering! Got the smoke flavor down. More American bbq flavor Vs Chinese. - ube, baked: this was yummy. I'd eat this in a steamed version. - pork hash: it was ok. It's missing something. Also, it had shrimp. That tended to overpower the pork flavor. - rice cake: this was also missing something. Like the fermentation process wasn't complete or idk. It was ok, but I think the size of the rice cake (looks like it was made in mini loaf pans) kind of dried it out. Overall, I give them credit! Price is ok for size, they were nice, and are in a convenient location. Authentic Chinese/local food is hard to do.

Yelp
Jason and all the folks at Happy Opu are wonderful. They always greet each customer with a smile; making you happy you stopped by each and every time. All their food is outstanding. I especially love their savory and sweet manapua. They have such creative and delicious selections from adobo to char siu and curry to ube and much more! Check out their full menu for your favorites and for other great finds as everything is always made fresh daily! Among Happy Opu's excellent desserts, is a caramel miso brownie that is truly heavenly. It strikes the perfect balance between sweet and salty in a most unique flavor structure that will make you forever abandon bothering with any other brownie. If you like chocolate, then this is for you. Truly, this can't be overstated. I could go on and on, but you ought to go and enjoy for yourself. I know you will be so happy to make this discovery and to make it a regular stop to brighten your and your friends' day. We are so fortunate to have the people of Happy Opu and their culinary creations on Maui.

Lena L.

Yelp
Nice local bakery!! We personally loved the ube manapua. We also got the charsiu, which good too, but we've had fillings that are better elsewhere. The siomai were huge and delicious. The store also has a small merch section with their cute mascot printed on items such as tshirts, totes, etc. Ended up purchasing a tshirt. I'd recommend paying this bakery a visit. Go earlier if possible because they do sell out!
google avatar

Grace A.

Yelp
Happy Opu is really good for breakfast or even just for snack time. My favorite was chicken curry. I was really bummed when I didn't see it from the menu. Please bring it back. The service is fast and friendly. Everything is to go only, the noise is okay. I'll be back for more to try something else.
google avatar

L K.

Yelp
Pork hash is very good, would buy again. Ube roll and brownie is good too. Char siu manapua could be better, some red color would be nice too. Adobo manapua has a weird taste. The ham and cheese roll needs some kind of sauce. Overall alright. Family brought home some oahu manapuas and these definitely don't match up. The desserts and pork hash are spot on though....
google avatar

Fola F.

Yelp
Discovered this place on yelp. The manapua's are huge and delicious too. I also purchased the pork hash which was also a winner. Check them out. The cashier took our order over the phone and was ready within 10 minutes. The shop is clean and friendly. Parking is also convenient.

Henry H.

Yelp
This place is da bomb!!! It's about damn time that we get one manapua shop on Maui! I found this place on a whim. I was looking for something to take to the folks in Hana instead of the same krispy donuts, and this popped up. Never heard of the place so I checked it out, BRAH these manapuas are massive! Everyone that tried it was so delighted by the flavor and how big it was. A big plus was how fast the service was. Needed three dozen and they had it ready in 15mins. Definitely gonna be my new go to spot to grab a tray for one party.
google avatar

Renukah H.

Yelp
This is my new found comfort go to spot! The pork hash and every single Manapua, is chef's kiss. Yes, that's right. Every. Single. One! I absolutely love knowing all their items are freshly made in house, next best thing to mom's home cooking! Perfect place to pick up before hopping on a plane or taking to a party. I brought a box of their goodies to the office, and everyone couldn't stop raving so I know it's not just me. You will be so happy you stopped by and tried Happy Opu.
google avatar

Melissa V.

Yelp
Yum! Baked char siu manapuas are delicious! Also really love their pork hash w/sauce & almond cookie.
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
I tried a chashu and kalua pork and cabbage manapua. I liked flavor of the fillings in both of them. I only wish there was more of the filling and less of the bread shell. The ratio was a little high on the bread. Pork hash was okay. A little expensive, but everything is handmade and this is Maui.
google avatar

LagrangePoint M.

Yelp
Returned and now they are offering steamed manapua since my last visit. The large size is appreciated, the bao is conventional, the char siu filling is, ....familiar. The large pork hash is more than twice the size of conventional pork hash and a good value for the price. The taste is as good as anywhere and would bring me back just for an order. Sadly, they did have the blueberry cheese cake that day. I hope they tweek the char siu filling. Service is great and the staff friendly.

Briana M.

Yelp
It was our first time coming here and the place was super cute and the service was great. Loved how their little character was shown all around the place. There were a few options displayed out and what we got were 3 types of manapua (char siu, chicken curry, and kalua pork), shrimp pork hash, and a miso caramel brownie. They were all extremely delicious! Especially loved the hash :) Will come back again and support!
google avatar

Wesley K.

Yelp
Finally, Maui has its own Manapua place again. Got to try the Ube Manapua which was delicious. Great decor and service. Excited to visit again

Thomas W.

Yelp
I have had Manapua all over the Islands, and this is the best Manapua in all of Hawaii! I have tasted the Char Siu, Chicken Adobo, and Kalua Pig. I can't decide which I like best, they are all so good!!! I swear I have seen a celebrity at least half the times I have been there. I have seen Helen Hunt, Kelsey Grammer, and I'm pretty sure I saw the drummer from Metallica there. I highly recommend Happy Opu!

Angela A.

Yelp
My family and I was craving manapua and pork hash so we finally went in to try some! Answer it was soooo good and fulfilling. They have great customer service also. Cute little shop. We even tried ube mochi roll and it was DELICIOUS!
google avatar

Crystal A.

Yelp
cute little specialty spin on a manapua place. there's their famous mochi rolls, matcha ube flavors and of course an array of manapua! euro asian delights!
google avatar

Cecilia S.

Yelp
Amazing Ube Mochi roll and also recommend the Manapuas: curry, ube red bean, chicken adobo, and pork, pizza
google avatar

Karlin S.

Yelp
I'm so happy we have this gem on the island and close to my work. I've been there twice and have not been disappointed. The baked manapua are still delicious after 1 or 2 days later. I've tried the baked manapua, pork hash, and almond cookies. All were super ono and perfect to share with coworkers and friends! I can't wait to try the pies and rice cake next. I'm patiently waiting for them to be fully staffed and open more days. Until then, I will be there at 7AM to make sure I get a sampler of everything!

Ethan V.

Yelp
My Opu was not happy afterwards. After waiting for the glacial pace in service I was led to believe that curry is the item to order, it was bitter. No disrespect but you have to do a taste test and focus group survey before you serve this on the menu.
google avatar

Jody T.

Yelp
My awesome co-worker brought me an ube mochi roll and OMG!!!!! It was seriously the BEST sweet roll EVER!!! The bread is melt in your mouth soft with a little chew and just enough sweetness (think King's sweetbread with a better texture). The ube is just the perfect complement and even the frosting (which I normally am not a fan of) was spot on. Now I want to try all their rolls!

Yelp
Delicious manapua. Favorites are the kalua pork, chicken adobe, and char siu. Staff is very friendly. Happy Maui has this option now!

Yelp
Clean restaurant with friendly staff. The food was not what I expected, it's not like Oahu flavors when it comes to dim sum, it's quite different. I was disappointed with my pork hash, it was very dense and dry, and the sauce it came with didn't match it at all (it was very strong vinegar tasting). The rice cakes were ok in some areas, but for the most part it was pretty overcooked and dry. The Manapua itself is big but once again the flavoring of the char su wasn't quite to my liking. I'm all about supporting local, but I think for the price it's not worth it.

Yelp
Manapua bread was good. They could work on the fillings. Tried Char Siu, Kalua Pig and Cabbage and Adobo.

Yelp
I liked the chicken adobo baked manapua. Manapua is big! Almond cookie is awesome. Best manapua on Maui.

Yelp
I can't say that my Opu was happy! It was overall OK.. I don't think I'll be coming back unless I hear that they got better... I orders a pack of 6 manapuas (char sui, Kalua pig, Jackfruit and chicken adobo). The char sui isn't like your typical manapua you'd get from Oahu, It's not shredded. The flavors was a bit rich and sweet for my tasting. The bread was soft with a light crisp, but nothing special to it. It's a nice change up of flavors and not only having the original char sui, but I think I still prefer Oahu's manapuas! I think they should perfect there filling before offering other flavors (just my opinion). I also ordered the pork hash, which was quite horrible.. it was really salty and the sauce made it even saltier. It's not your typical wrapped pork hash. It's scooped onto the wrapper with its side folded onto the ball and steamed so that it "hugs" the filling. This is just my honest review, as I'm quite particular about how I like my manapua and pork hash... But, I would recommend that everyone try it for themselves..

Yelp
A cute little shop that sells manapua and pork hash! I was so happy that the rumors were found to be true as this shop finally opened up :) I came around 10, and there were no customers hoping they weren't out of anything as they usually do. The shop was soOoOoOo cute with their little manapua guy around the shop. I ordered their chicken adobo and it was amazing, as the flavors were poppin' with really good hints of black pepper. (If you don't like that, you don't like it. To each their own. I loved it!) They also had a chocolate brownie cheesecake that isn't super sweet which I really enjoyed! I can't wait to try their steamed manapuas and savory pies as it seemed like they didn't have any at the time. Needless to say, I got one hell of a Happy Opu! *I did the thing*

Yelp
I applaud the local food, manapua, pork hash, and other items. it is great to see a place like this open! to see the items being made and the best part is it is NOT a mainland corporate fast food place, or a place that caters to a tourist customer. Maui lacks places like this, one can only believe this will instill others to open a place similar. Kaleis Lunchbox and Happy Opu, a nice combination that is not a food cart! Mahalo
