The 19 Best Breakfast Burritos in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Hoover Street’s Happy Taco hides well under the radar of most breakfast burrito specialists, and that’s okay with locals who swear that the fried egg and hash brown creation is among the city’s best. Bacon and sausage are available here, of course, but so is carne asada." - Farley Elliott

Google
A good take out spot with a patio for dining. I have a breakfast burrito there twice. Both times the burrito didn’t miss. Hot, tasty and filling with a protein, fluffy egg, cheese and hash brown inside. The tortilla chips that give you with your order are perfectly crispy and crunch and fresh. There are also creative takes on the breakfast burrito including a chilaquiles burrito and even a torta. If you go before 11 a.m. you get free coffee.

Great taco and burrito place, and a place to chill at their outdoor patio while you wait for them to being your meal and eat. Very clean, staff are welcoming anf helpful. I had the Cajun shrimp breakfast burrito which was very tasty and satisfying. Salsas are flavorful and fresh. Enjoy the fresh iced lemon water as well.

Dear Happy Taco: The decision to use lots of fresh diced RED onion in your burritos is not a good one. It overpowers everything. Consider using mild white onion like all food trucks in the city. Cheers.

Overall: 4.4/5 (delivery) We ordered on Postmates, and the food was delivered in half an hour. All the portion sizes & prices were great. Birria de Res Tree Tacos Plate ($16.95): I'm also craving birrias tacos when I want tacos. This was a great deal since other places charge like $5/birria tacos & extra $ for the consome. The rice and beans were okay and on the blander side. I didn't really like the consome and there wasn't a lot of meat. The tacos had a lot of meat but they were lacking flavor overall. Wouldn't get this item again. Happy Burrito ($14.95): I saw a lot of good reviews for their burritos so I had to try one of their popular ones. The happy burrito did not disappoint and was so good! There's 3 type of proteins so I was pretty full from eating half of it. Everything about it was good except the grilled carne asada had a lot of the tendons so i had to chew and spit these out a couple of times (definitely not cute for a date). Other than that issue, this is probably my favorite item. Cajun Shrimp Crispy Taco ($6.95): We didn't eat our food right away so we were quite surprised that the taco shell remained crispy the entire time. The shrimps were big and juicy. All the right flavors were there. I can see why this is a popular item. This was also my husband's favorite item of the 3 we tried.

Google
This used to be a good spot. The quality has gone down tremendously. The carne asada has no flavor no seasoning. The prices are ridiculous. The asada fries are whatever. the fries are soggy. It’s gross save your money. Also never any parking there. Oh and horrible service from the girl who takes your order. She’s got attitude

Google
We heard that California had great breakfast burritos and we were in the area so we decided to check Happy Taco out. Because we were here on a Saturday, we also wanted some eats from the Salvadoran Street Food Market so we only grabbed 1 breakfast burrito to share. Nonetheless, it was delicious. I love that we ordered from the small window, the experience was new since we're from Toronto. We got to sit at the patio while we waited for our burrito and it was nice and sunny out. We ordered the Chorizo breakfast burrito with tater tots. It was crazily delicious and I wish we got a second one (they also came with chips and salsa which was such a nice touch). Definitely check this place out for breakfast burritos! Highly recommend.

Google
The only place I know where I can get breakfast burritos any time throughout the day. Comes with chips on the side! Well made. Only con is parking is almost none existent, try for pick up from jack in the box that’s across the street

Yelp
Happy Taco near the USC campus is a pretty solid spot if you're in the area and craving Mexican food. The neighborhood itself isn't exactly the most glamorous, but they've done a nice job making the space feel inviting. There's a small patio dining area if you want to sit and enjoy your food. One little detail I loved: the chips have this fun, jagged edge that makes them feel like they were cut special -- a small touch, but it stands out. The birria was also very tasty, flavorful without being overly oily. The carne asada was also really good -- juicy, seasoned well, and cooked just right. The chicken, though, was kind of forgettable; not bad, just nothing special. Food was very delicious but unfortunately there was a bit of a hiccup with our order. They misheard me at first, so when they brought it out, they had to swap to hardshell tacos and then charge me a bit more. Even after that, the dish still came out with the guac sauce on it, even though we had asked for it on the side when we ordered. At that point, I didn't feel like sending it back again, so we just rolled with it. The hard shell taco was surprisingly sturdy and thick, not greasy at all, and had a nice crunch to it. Service was friendly, though the mix-up did slow things down a bit. Overall, it's not a perfect experience, but still really hit the spot.

Yelp
We placed an order through DoorDash on 6/04/2025. What a disappointment. Our order consisted of Caldo de res, Chilaquiles burritos, 3 taco combo, esquites and a la carte carne asada taco and al pastor taco. 1. Caldo de res had no beef flavor whatsoever. It tasted like watered down chicken soup. There was no corn and no Mexican rice. I added so much salt to try to make edible but it wasn't. $20 for watered down soup down the drain. 2. The chilaquiles burrito was spicy as heck. We can handle a little spice but this was burn the inside of your mouth spicy. There should be a warning on the menu on the spice level. 3. Al pastor has changed. They used to make good Al pastor meat but now it doesn't even taste like Al pastor. Asada was sub par. 4. Esquites were very good. I'll give credit where credit is due. We've been customers for years and we've noticed the decline in quality but always gave them a chance. We love to support small businesses but This time around was our last time ordering from Happy Taco. $100 worth of food that was barely edible. Shame on you Happy Taco, shame on you.

Yelp
Update: I ended up getting food poisoning from here. Originally I gave this 3 stars, but this was severe food poisoning and I know it came from the carne asada. I am really disappointed because the quality of the carne asada was so bad. Truly the worst carne asada I've ever had. It was grisly, hard, and really not enjoyable to eat. But the rest of the burrito was fire! I LOVED the hash browns inside!! I think if I had gotten a different meat, I would be saying this is one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. But since the meat was that bad, unfortunately I can't. The burrito is also a great size! The salsa it came with was really good too, and the chips were nice and thick. Maybe try a different type of meat.

Yelp
Good Mexican at affordable prices. My order came with chips and they were nice and crispy. Wish the burrito had more meat. There's street parking & back lot parking as well.

Yelp
I've been here before but never tried their breakfast menu. It came highly recommended from a family member. There's numerous options for breakfast burritos, including Regular Breakfast Burrito and SUPER BREAKFAST BURRITO. My son and I went with the 3 little pigs Super Burrito. It comes with Bacon, ham, and sausage with grilled bell peppers, onions, and guacamole. My wife got the Mayan burrito and loved it. This might be my new breakfast spot.

Yelp
I havent eaten here i a long time. Mostly due to parking which can be a nightmare. Many times i am driving by and look for parking on the street and if there is some ill stop and this time it was right in the front. I ordered the 3 taco plate since it was taco tuesday. It came with beans and rice. It was good, just wish it had some other things on it other than meat, onions and avacado, err, guacamole which i dont like. The tacos were kind of dry but i ate everything and i think i was satisfied more because i was very full. I was kinda happy!

Yelp
So sad that they don't have fried plantains anymore (because that was what made their Mayan breakfast burrito the best), but the food is still good! I used to frequent this place back when I lived in Koreatown because they were the only Mexican restaurant with food that I would crave. Parking is still a pain around here but hopefully you come when they have an open spot in their back lot (or else you gotta go searching for some street parking). You still order at a small window in the front and then if you are going to dine-in, they have a small covered patio on the side that you have to be let in through a small locked gate to sit at the tables. We ordered chilaquiles verdes (tortilla chips coated in salsa Verde and topped with cheese, raw onions, cilantro, eggs) that day because I haven't had chilaquiles in many years. Oh my god they were so flavorful and delicious--a little strong in flavor (salty and sour) so it pairs well with the rice, beans, and eggs. The chips were still lightly crispy despite being coated in the sauce, and it was worth having onion breath for the rest of the day. I would definitely try their chilaquiles again with salsa roja next time. I recommend the mole and tinga tacos in addition to the chilaquiles! Will definitely be back whenever I am craving Happy Taco again

Yelp
Had a craving for shrimp fries, like nachos but with fries instead of chips. This was the only place in ktown that I could find that sells them. We had the shrimp fries, two asada tacos and a horchata. I highly recommend the fries, but ask for them to substitute the nacho cheese for real grated cheese. The service was great, I ordered before I got there and it was ready to go by the time I picked up. They have a small outdoor patio where you can eat and it looks very clean. I took my food home though because it was cold out.

Chris D.

Yelp
I ordered a burrito and the meat was burned and dried out. Never experienced anything like it. Maybe they tried to rehest meat ongriddle and left it on for too long. The salsa is like hot sauce froma bottle and they use converted rice for their mexican rice. Gross.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty bummed the last time I came here. Ordered the super fries and nachos with carne asada. 1. The portions have gotten smaller within a few months. 2. They reheated the carne asada. That's a big NO NO!! And I've been here many times that their meat is always fresh. NOT this time. I don't know if it's the cook. They didn't have any sales that day. Or they want to use the meat from the day. I got the food around 5pm. You would think it would be fresh for dinner time. But yup that's my sad story of this place. Maaaaybe the next time I go for a breakfast burrito and nachos the meat will be fresh. I am paying for freshness. This time they added the green pickled sliced jalapeños peppers. That was not there the last few times I got it. Must be something new or they wanted to get rid of it. It didn't taste good. Tasted like spoiled But I will say good service. Oh and on another note they didn't have the churros for the Yelp check in. maybe next review will be better since this is my fave place to get a breakfast burrito.

Yelp
OK, I have not done a review in years. Well, this is my first review 2025 on yelp. I'd ordered three tacos. One was a shrimp taco what was a ground chuck steak I believe and a pollo asado taco with an order of fries by delivery of GrubHub. It said it was gonna take about 30+ minutes to arrive. Once the person arrived They kept calling me and leaving me messages and I am like waiting at my door for them to deliver as states on the directions. I left a text message stating to leave my order at the door and Plus GrubHub wanted me to give them a two digit code. GrubHub says that occasionally they give customers to give the driver two digit code. Two digit code was 98. Well the driver never came to my door for some reason I kept calling him (Javier) and when I call him GrubHub said that or we cannot reach the driver. I text the person again like where are you. I can still see the car on a little map that delivery apps provide for the customer and the driver. So the driver never came. I got a message from GrubHub staff when I opened it it said your order was delivered, which was not true because I was standing at the door, the whole time waiting so I can give the driver to two digit code. It showed me a picture of a senior citizen building that's on the block. Because I recognize it's colors. I was very upset because I have a viral infection and I'm not feeling my best. But I was feeling well enough to eat some food because I was hungry. I had to walk all the way to the senior citizens building. Which was not fun to do because again not feeling my best. I'm a little weak to be walking, especially in the cold at night time. Anyhow, when I got the food, I immediately called GrubHub. I had a small chat through their chat box. There was a little back-and-forth, but I eventually got my money back. For the inconvenience. Then I want to call the restaurant because the restaurant didn't even secure my bag. They only tied it in a knot. I like my bag with a sticker or some kind of tape or something from the restaurant indicated the food hasn't been tampered with. Also, the fries were very nasty and cold. I will insert a picture.. I did not the fries at all. The tacos were so-so. They were tolerable. Does the ground chuck taco was very salty. That was gross. The other two tacos were OK to eat. I wanted to speak to the manager when I called. I called around 7 o'clock in the evening, February 24, 2025. I asked to speak to the manager to the lady who picked up at that time on that shift. She told me the manager wasn't there. I asked well when will the manager be in and what is their name. She told me oh they should be there in the morning. Then I said what is their name. She told me no I could not have their name or She didn't know how to pronounce their name or something like that. So I said you don't know how to pronounce the name. Then she says well their name is I asked her do you not know their name. Then she says well his name is Guadalupe. I said his name? She said yes, his name. I said his name is Guadalupe and is a woman's name? She said yes. I said well OK thank you. This was a bizarre experience I had. It wasn't a great experience again. I am sick, something I do not wish on someone. I didn't feel like cooking so I wanted something to eat. And this was my experience. I had gross fries, sweaty fries by the way the bag that the food came in was very sweaty and wet inside. And the one taco the ground chuck taco was very salty. I only ordered because the ratings to order the food seemed ok. I was going to get Mediterranean food, but I chose this place. I will not ever choose this place again. Hello Guadalupe, the male manager. The food order was bad. The package wasn't secure for delivery and not the right material for the food. The bag was sweaty and wet inside. The fries were soggy. The tacos almost. They still had a little crunch. Not good happy taco. I was not too happy!

Yelp
Last time I give this place a shot. They are renowned for getting your order wrong. There is nothing more consistent about this place than them getting your order wrong. The taco prices are ridiculous for what you get. And let me repeat: they will get your order wrong no matter how many times you confirm your order with them. NOPE.

Yelp
I worked with Happy Taco to provide burritos for a breakfast meeting We had with our clients. The various types of burritos that were offered appealed to everyone in the group. The flavors are amazing and the prices are very affordable. I cannot wait to try other items on their menu.

Yelp
Asada burrito was solid! Add cheese and sour cream! Ifs the jam! Good chips too! . Will be ordering again soon
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food. Only complaint is the wait time. Make sure to order ahead of time or you will be waiting a bit. The food is worth the wait though as it's freshly made and delicious. The customer service is great too.

Yelp
I used to love Happy Taco. We used to go a couple times a month but the last few times have just been inconsistent. They got rid of their chorizo and the soyrizo is not similar at all (most soyrizo comes close). Ingredients sometimes missing or added contrary to the specific lists on the menu. Today, I ordered their soyrizo breakfast burrito and added beans (extra charge). When I got home, I cut the burrito in half to share with my gf only to discover that it was full of avocado. Nowhere on the menu did it state that avocado was in the burrito. One of us can't eat avocado so I had to go back to the restaurant to get another one. When we tried this one, not only were there no beans, there was no chipotle aioli or cilantro crema, both of which were listed in the menu description. The burrito was super flavorless and it was very disappointing that so many ingredients (especially one that was an up charge) were missing. Friendly service and nice people. Nice little patio too

Yelp
Went for breakfast burritos - got one with bacon, and one with avocado. If you like a crispy hashbrown, this is the burrito for you. Good quantity of avocado in the burrito with no meat, and good quantity of bacon in the other. Comes in at a great price point as well - $9.95. The only thing that would prevent me from going back is the fried egg inside the burrito. I don't feel like this works better than a scrambled egg in this case, because there are times when you're eating exclusively egg white, and it is a little unsatisfying. Salsa that comes with the burrito has a very nice spice to it, although the flavor is a little lacking. Overall very solid! They have an extensive menu, with a large vegetarian section, so there's something for everyone. Walkup window is very cute and relatively efficient. Street parking might be a struggle, but we got lucky.

Yelp
This used to be my go to spot for Asada nachos .. but after today not NO more . The quality of the taste is not the same . But also when u order nachos u expect to have all the ingredients .. well not no more .. everything comes separately .. which is so inconvenient

Yelp
It's acceptable. I tried the chilaquiles my partner had the breakfast burrito bowl. Pricing is adequate for the food and service was pretty prompt. Small place I didn't dine-in so idk how the atmosphere is inside. Overall and all in all it was okay.

Yelp
The food is very flavorful but the employees do not know how to follow order instructions with food deliveries. I always add sour cream and guacamole and they NEVER ADD IT. Then I have to request a refund from Uber eats, and then my burrito is dry. Please people start following instructions.

Yelp
I got the Happy Burrito and it was good and the portions was great for a fat guy. They have lemon water in there setting area. I really like this spot the down side, I didn't see a restroom and the salas (red/green) weren't that hot at all. Oh and you get chips with the burrito.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
I love this place! Only reason they got docked a star is because they didn't honor yelp check in! Take it down if you're not going to let us use it smh. The happy burrito is the move. Never heard of a burrito coming with steak chicken AND shrimp. Pretty nuts and amazingly delicious. Even comes with chips and salsa. This place is a gem even has outdoor seating area!

Yelp
So my wife found this place visiting LA 3 years ago and would randomly brag about how I need to try it. We came to LA maybe a year later and she couldn't remember the name or location of the restaurant. So this weekend we decided to take a random trip to LA, she asked me what did I want to eat the first night, I said WE BETTER GO TO THIS TACO PLACE YOU SAID IS THE BEST YOU'VE EVER HAD . The pressure was on and she couldn't remember the name. Luckily we had access to her previous trips through a 3rd party site so that helped because she stayed close to here. Fast forward we made it prior to closing, she ordered the taco plate, it came with 2 chicken tacos, added cheese ($1), added sour cream($1), Mexican rice and refried beans(total $11.95). She loved her tacos but didn't care for the beans and rice. They tasted like it was missing some maybe some butter and salt/seasoning or something. For her drink she had a Watermelon Fresca $4.50 which was delicious. It was a large menu so I didn't know what I wanted. I ended buying a cajun shrimp taco and cajun fish taco ($5/each). They were delicious I would choose the shrimp first if I had to chose even though these are street tacos so they can only put on as much as possible. I wanted a side so I ask for chips and salsa which is $4, the cashier said I asked if I just wanted a bag for $1 as it comes with salsa anyway so I said just give me the bag. Well the salsa was more of the kind you pour on tacos instead of chunk of tomatoes, etc. The red salsa was hot but I enjoyed it. For a bonus I received a free churro for a Yelp check in. My wife and I shared the caramel churro. Omg I almost ordered some to go they were so good. I like churros but usually they don't taste like much but these here were

Yelp
Chicken tostada was so good & customer service is great. Everything we got, was made fresh.

Yelp
Guess what I ordered again and they messed up again? Super Nachos!! They charge $17 for this on Uber Eats. It's SUPPOSED to come with "choice of protein, nacho cheese, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, and Jalapeños!" Guess what we got. Chips, cheese, meat. Admittedly these are the most "important" parts of nachos, but we are missing Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, Sour Cream, and jalapeños. All the stuff that adds to nachos and just makes it BETTER. At least they didn't forget the damn CHEESE this time. We are done with this place. How do you mess up this many times? Absolutely unbelievable!

Yelp
Sweet baby, Jebus, Happy Taco is pretty good! I don't know if it's because I was super hungry and it was getting to be a late lunch, but Happy Taco didn't disappoint! I decided to order some food via Doordash and decided to go with some Mexican food. I did some trusty yelp research and based on the fairly positive reviews, decided to give it a try. I ordered a lot of their most popular items including the California Burrito ($13.95), Happy Burrito ($13.95), carne asada ($2.95), pollo asada ($2.95), and birria de res tacos ($3.50). The burritos were pretty big and came with a side of chips, which were absolutely delicious. Overall, I'm a happy customer.

Yelp
They have great discount specials. The food is good, but not always on the same flavor notes and consistency. I have no clue why that is. It maybe that's how home cooking works--sometimes is on point and at times, it's a little off. Overall, the tacos and burritos are great.

Yelp
This place has been around for a while now and I'm glad I finally stopped by, the Happy Nachos keep me coming back, and each time I come back I try something new. The service is great , friendly and very helpful if it's your first time there , the ambiance is in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Pico Union yet private from their small outside patio . I recommend the Happy Nachos

Yelp
Garbage place, I ordered today December 22at 9:02pm I ordered $88 worth of food thru Uber eats with tip and all it was over $100 and this people have the dignity of only sending me the torta I ordered the soup de red anda water of Jamaica. I ordered 5 items a torta. A strawberry water that they don't have so they send u whatever they want, I also ordered chips and guacamole which I never received but still got charged and I ordered a soup de res and there churros that you supposly get after u order $40. Never got the churros instead they send me a burrito of beans and rice . This place is terrible to order from never will I order from here. You'll should be more transparent with ur customers. Plus the food isn't all that ur not missing from much .

Yelp
Breakfast burrito was all I had an it was incredible. Asada, egg and hash brown. The asada was big chunks cooked fresh and the hash browns were perfectly crispy. The eggs could not have been better. The texture of all of it was perfect, beat only by the flavor. The salsa is great and they throw in some amazing tortilla chips. Great service too.

Yelp
This is legit my favorite hole in the wall Mexican food joint that never disappoints. Everything on the menu is good and its pretty extensive. Not much seating it's definitely and order and go kinda place. But worth it!

Social Fetish ..

Yelp
Horrible service! We were waiting on our order for almost an hour when they finally tell us they had given it to the wrong person. Then refused to remake it as someone had already taken it. Very frustrating.

Yelp
Was looking for late night tacos and ended up finding this place on Yelp and the all day breakfast burritos immediately caught my eye! Got my 10 pm burrito to split with my bf. We chose the carne asada breakfast burrito option with the hash brown filling. It was so satisfying!! Packed with tons of meat and the combination of this with fried eggs, cheese, and hash browns is so amazing. And soooo glad they offer this at night for those munchies. Most places stop serving at 11am when I can barely wake up lol. For $10 you get a large burrito (def enough for 2 people), 2 little bags of tortilla chips, and salsas. Also, there's a check in for a churro and the caramel one was to die for!! Literally has that extra creaminess inside that hits that spot.

Yelp
I went to this place 3 years ago 2019 with my cousins These tacos were fire I been telling my husband about these tacos and so we came for a lil vacation from Vegas heat. I had forgot the name of the restaurant but thanks to the pictures of the outside on yelp we found it My husband and I wasn't disappointed I had grilled chicken tacos My husband had 1 shrimp and 1 fish taco loaded We also got chips n salsa Man they strawberry melon juice is delicious

Yelp
I can only speak on 1 item at this establishment and that is there breakfast burrito. As strange it might be, this might be one of the top 3 breakfast burritos I've had. It's simple, flavorful and the salsa they give you on the side is dynamite (and I don't use that word often). The bacon is almost like pork belly and hash browns are crispy in every bite. The eggs are done over medium which give a unique flavor that seems to work in the burrito. I can't remark about this place for there tacos, but if you need a solid breakfast burrito, try here!

Another one of my spots for Mexican food, we usually will get delivery. I've ordered here several times and haven't been disappointed. If there's been a mess up they fix it right away or refund me. But the times it's happened have been very few and far between. Great menu items, the quality is there and they do have deals from time to time.

Yelp
Avocado burrito with green salsa. So good. Also tried scampy shrimp burrito that was tasty too! Always my go to when in the area.

Yelp
I had the strongest taco craving but didn't want to walk anywhere to get tacos so I ordered through Doordash. I ordered an al pastor taco with guac and a fish taco. The delivery time was scheduled for 3:33 PM and the Doordasher arrived 10 minutes beforehand, which was a pleasant surprise. The tacos came with green and red salsa on the side. I used a little bit of the red salsa on the fish taco. The tacos were so DELICIOUS that I finished them off within 15 minutes. Plenty of flavor in both tacos and the guac just made the al pastor taco so much tastier. I would want to try Happy Taco in-person!

Yelp
I thought I was going to regret adding a couple of over medium eggs in my burrito but it did not disappoint! So many different types of flavors in this burrito. Shrimp, and asada together. So delicious! It was a surf and turf breakfast burrito! Didn't care for the can soda and all the flys on their seating area, but I mean it's in LA. What's re you gonna do! Great burrito, and the green salsa was the perfect thing to top it off!

Yelp
The service here is always quick and easy. The food is fantastic. We got the carne asada burrito and crispy shrimp taco plate. The shells for the shrimp tacos were super crispy and flavorful! And their guacamole makes you wanna shadow box with the wind cuz it's so good. The carne asada was juicy and tender with so much flavor. The portion size is big so you will leave there feeling full. They have a small outside area to dine in. That's what we did. Usually I get it to go. But today we had extra time so it was a beautiful time. Good job to the cooks and staff at happy taco. I've come 3 times this week! Thank you!

Yelp
I think this was the best burrito I've ever had hands down. Got a breakfast burrito (carne asada, hash browns, fried eggs, cheese) and a horchata. Flavor was phenomenal, nice spice, sauces took it to the next level. Also came with chips that were hitting. 10/10 recommend and I'll be back next time I'm in town if not before I leave this weekend .

Yelp
I stumbled into this spot on my way home from work over 7 years ago. I have been going ever since. You cannot pick a bad taco, quesadilla or anything. The service window is awesome to grab and go. The seats are great if you want to chill there. Get the super happy nachos and your life will be changed.

Yelp
We decided to get some nachos and I found Happy Taco on yelp, so we gave it a go. The lady that helped us was super kind and quick. We ordered the super nachos with beans and sour cream added on, and I'm vegetarian so she had no issue putting the meat on the side. All I can say is these were the best nachos I ever had. We really enjoyed them. It was a great experience overall, and I can't wait to come back to get these again. (:
