My favorite place to eat in copper country. Staff are kind, personable, knowledgeable and helpful. Food is perfection. From the bar selection through every course there was never a disappointment. Prepared skillfully and thoughtfully. What a gem. I will be back for my next staycation. We stopped in one day for apps and a drink and came back the following day for dinner. The view is spectacular, not a bad seat in the house.

Views are wonderful to start. Overlooking Lake Superior. Reservations only after 5 for the second story seating. Otherwise everything is open to the public. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the scallops with a crab cake appetizer. Both were delicious. The crem brûlée desert was ok. Service was on point. Very descriptive. Highly recommended. I’ll definitely be back again for sure. Ty 👍✌️

Absolutely delightful. Our waiter Jim went above and beyond. Stunning views and the best short ribs I’ve ever tasted. Everything down to the side salad was just phenomenal. Worth every penny!

Inside this unassuming building where you can't even get cellular service is a restaurant that rivals any of the finest dining establishments I've eaten at in NYC, Vegas, or Tokyo. The food is passionately created to perfection, the views are stunning, and the warmth and friendliness inside are beyond compare. Everything we ate was just amazing, and all at a good price for fine dining. This might be the best restaurant in all of the UP.

Highly recommend this gourmet restaurant. It is always amazing. Reservations highly recommended but they are able to fit in some walk ins. Reservations can be made on line. The bar serves up delicious mixed drinks. There is an excellent selection of wines. They have a few specials each night that are not on the menu. Fresh fish from Lake Superior is featured in several dishes. Please check out the menu online for all of the incredible dishes. Eating here is a gastronomic experience with a gorgeous view and great service.

Just an absolute delight of a restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious. Wife had the bacon wrapped scallops, loved them. I had the whitefish in lemon caper sauce, just delicious. Had cheesecake wi a Norwegian lingon berry. Wonderful. Service was excellent. And the view, Wowza!!! Lake Superior at sunset, it can't be beat.

We were lucky to experience Harbor Haus twice during our weekend in Copper Harbor! The creativity of the chef and the timeless classic offerings were inspired. Service is top notch, and our server (and all the staff) was delightful! Bravo to a beautiful team and gorgeous restaurant with water and lighthouse views!

This was the top culinary experience we had on the peninsula! An nteresting mix of European and American dishes on the menu. Very strong cocktails as well. We had the goulash soup, potato pancakes, fried fish special with rice & almonds and the chocolate crème brulee. We enjoyed quiet outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the bay. Amazing helpful staff!

What a discovery and sad it's taken decades to finally come here. You walk in and the whole side of the restaurant is windows so everyone has a view of Superior. The hostess was lovely and found us a space even though we didn't have a reservation (I would recommend this). Our server Lilly was knowledgeable, attentive and very good. She managed a huge section and timed all of us perfectly so no one was waiting too long for their dishes or drinks. The food is OUTSTANDING!! How has this been under the radar in Copper Harbor? High dinning in the middle of no-where, its wonderful. The trout was super moist and flavorful with crisp skin. The mushroom risotto was cooked perfectly and full of earthy flavors. The beef stroganoff was rich and decadent. The four cheese ravioli was a lot on its own, but paired with the beef and sauce was a perfect match. We ordered a side of spätzle and sauce and it was another fun and delicious dish to try. Our starter was the special of fried burrata cheese over a homemade marinara. The marinara was my favorite part! Acidic, smooth, herby and fill of fresh garden tomato flavor. German beer on tap and a great wine selection. The location (restaurant, event space and cabins) are for sale. I hope potential new owners will keep the food as unique and high quality as it is now.

Rolled in at 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon in August and my husband and I were seated at a table with an exquisite view of the water. We called to make a reservation when they opened at 2:00 and were informed that they were filled for the evening though there would still be drop in seating if we arrived before 4-5:00. Sure enough, by the time we departed @ 4:45, the place was hopping. Call ahead for reservations if you would like a table in the evening or be prepared to wait. The draw here is the view of the water; simply gorgeous. The food is also wonderful, with a good choice of seafood and meat entrees, appetizers and desserts. We began our meal with the tempura white fish with Asian slaw appetizer. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a nice balance of flavors with rubles and pickled ginger. A winner. We chose the scallop special ($48) and the pan cooked trout ($28). Both entrees came with fresh sautéed seasonal veggies, a choice of one side starch (mashed potatoes, au gratin potatoes, rice pilaf, risotto) and a choice of salads (Caesar, garden, beet-feta or watermelon) . We also enjoyed a warm roll with olive oil and herbs to dip. Our meals were beautifully presented, piping hot and well cooked. The seafood was tender with flavorful but not overpowering seasoning and sauces. The veggies were crisp and the potatoes were delicious. We shared a flourless chocolate torte and it was amazing: smooth, rich and not too sweet. With tip our tab came to $130 for two with no drinks. Expect to pay good money for a nice dinner, well prepared, a beautiful view and first class service.

At about 6:30pm on a Friday night I stopped in and was seated immediately on the patio, with a five star view of the beautiful harbor in Lake Superior. I received quick service from a very pleasant server. My bourbon Keweenaw Backwood Manhattan was excellent. I ordered the Planked Whitefish wrapped in bacon with a garden salad and blue cheese dressing, broccoli and mushroom risotto. The whitefish was very good and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. The salad was crisp and tasty. The risotto was good, but a little larger helping would have been nice and a little more mushroom. I ordered the carrot cake for dessert, which was tasty, but had only a thin layer of cake and was mostly frosting. Overall a very nice meal with a beautiful view.

Excellent service, ambiance, food, and inviting patio. From the moment we entered the restaurant and placed our name on the list, the service was fantastic. Friendly and professional. We had just gotten off the boat that brought us back from Isle Royale, and we were tired and hungry. We had an hour to wait so we went to our lodge, unpacked, and practiced yoga, and when we came back we were seated right away. The space is inviting and the views are beautiful--really nice outdoor swatting. Our server, Lily, is a sweet young woman, friendly, very likable, has great recommendations, professional, and funny - Outstanding! We shared: Goat cheeses with mint marmalade and kalamata olives Crab stuffed rissotto balls Cooper Harbot grilled trout with Yukon mashed and risotto Beet salad and Caesar Chocolate ganache with ice cream All was excellent. The Goat Cheese with mint marmalade was one of Lily's suggestions and a delicious pairing for my taste buds. It was a wonderful civilized dinner after being in the wilderness. BTW, their Old Fashioned was the best that I had since the beginning of our road trip through Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. This place is a gem.

Had a wonderful fish dinner with an amazing view. Have been going here since a young girl. It's where I discovered weed my love of white fish. And while the place has changed over time, it still remains one of my favorite restaurants.

I've been going to Harbor Haus every year for the duck breast, which is always very, very delicious and something I truly look forward to. The vibe is always good, with beautiful views of Lake Superior, and the waitresses wear traditional German dresses that add a unique charm. The owners are extremely kind, and I always bring my daughters and friends when we visit. They don't take reservations, so there's usually a wait, but we enjoy the food and it's always worth it. I still remember a dessert they used to serve that had to be ordered an hour in advance, and I miss it. Although the quality has dipped a bit over time, the essence of the place remains, and I still consider it the best restaurant in the Upper Peninsula, if not all of Michigan.

Pure Michigan Ah! This was my first visit to God's country ( so folks from this area say) Copper Harbor MI! It's a small picturesque town with a gorgeous view of Lake Superior.A lot of trails and outdoor water activities.Not too many food places but the one and only Harbor Haus has food that is to die for! It's German cuisine,fine dining style!The Lake fish and coconut shrimp was on point.Wrapped in bacon and marinated with that ginger glaze this was a marriage made in heaven for that Trout.My friend had the Beef Medallions and lobster tail.The lobster tail wasn't the best but that butter sauce made it okay. The service we received from Kelly was amazing! She answered all of our questions with patience and she is very knowledgeable about the menu.We felt welcomed and will definitely be back anytime we are in the Copper Harbor area! The experience is awesome! Reservations are required so go ahead and make one.We were told their menu changes at times.

Always my favorite place for dinner when we are in the Keweenaw! We've been celebrating here for 20 years and it never disappoints; had my birthday dinner there last week and it was superb as always. Thank you, Harbor Haus!

I forgot to take a photo of the appetizer but we started with the Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese which was delicious and great for sharing with our small group. I had the shrimp in tomato sauce for the entree which was very filling but felt light enough for the hot summer day. Then I finished the meal off with the crème brûlée and that was extremely tasty - not too sweet but very luscious and delicious. The service was amazing - our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and checked on us constantly. The vibe was great - we sat by a window and the restaurant is right on the water so the views were beautiful. Highly recommend this place!

Gorgeous view from the restaurant. Some outdoor lakeside tables. I recommend a reservation because it was busy. For a tiny UP town, this place was surprisingly good fine dining. I was worried I wasn't dressed up enough but it seemed to be okay as folks were in a variety of attire. Our waitress was very attentive. I had a salmon special that was fantastic. Even the veggies were great. Highly recommend this place. Tempting dessert menu. Good appetizers and salad options that come with dinner entrees.

We had a great evening at the Harbor Haus restaurant. Thank you Chef Josh for running into you and getting our reservation. Food was excellent and our server Chelsea was very nice and accommodating. I had the seared Lake Trout dinner and my wife had the Ribeye Dinner. They were both delicious! The view of Lake superior was phenomenal! I highly recommend this to all, very affordably priced.

We enjoyed our meal here. The hosts were very kind to accommodate our family including 4 children under 10 years old and seated us on our own in their party room. Perfect to keep the kiddos contained and out of the other patrons' hair, and we were able to enjoy our meals with a beautiful harbor view. The bread was fantastic and the seasonal lemonade cocktail was delicious. Entrees were well executed and they offered decent options on the kids' menu. Dessert was delicious and large enough to share! Be aware that this is a nicer restaurant, although we showed up after a beach combing day looked a bit scraggly and they still served us ;)

In Copper Harbor to go to Isle Royale for several days. Ate here once before going over and to celebrate on our return. What a terrific setting! View of the harbor and great interior. Super helpful owners and great waitresses! The food and wine were excellent. Get the fish. But do go.

Harbor Haus was recommended to us by a frequent visitor for good reason. Imagine staying in a rustic area known for camping and nature while enjoying a culinary experience equal to that of an urban city. What a find! The eclectic menu offered so many choices that it was hard to decide, but I was in the mood for comfort food. Danny provided a lovely experience, guiding us through the options with great care. We enjoyed a beautiful view, and the wine was surprisingly affordable. If you're in the area, reserve your table. You won't be sorry.

Is this the best restaurant in the U.P.? Without question it is. Fresh seafood, perfectly cooked meats and daily features to satisfy all tastebuds. Don't even get me started on the seasonal featured lemonades with vodka and house made puree (Nirvana). Ambiance, views, food and drinks are all exceptional. Request Callie as your server to elevate your experience even more. The Harbor Haus should be on your bucket list of destinations, once you try it your taste buds will be begging you to go back.

What a special place! The entire staff was so friendly, warm, and welcoming; especially our server, Shelly and the owners (who made us feel comfortable when we thought we might be underdressed ). The food was cooked to perfection. We had ribeye and NY strip, both delicious. On top of all of this, the location is breathtaking. Every table, inside and out, has a gorgeous view of Copper Habor and ships coming in from Isle Royale. The most fun, special part of our experience was when the entire staff went out on the shore, locked arms, & did the can-can for the ship coming in from Isle Royale! We drove almost an hour from where we were staying to dine here and it was worth it!

This is an amazing place to have dinner. The food was nourishing and delicious. The view was spectacular and the service could not have been better. I had the smoked pork chops which came with a really great healthy delicious salad (excellent homemade French dressing), German potato salad and kraut. Highly recommend! Did I mention the view of Lake Superior from the table!

Everything about this restaurant was top notch! The atmosphere and views were incredible! The staff was welcoming, warm and very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. We started with the smoked Lake Superior trout spread and it was as excellent! My wife had the watermelon salad which she loved. My house salad had a sweet vinaigrette that was perfect with the salty and garlicky croutons. My mouth is watering as I type this! Entrees included a perfectly cooked and seasoned filet. Wifey opted for the bacon wrapped scallops. She was a little disappointed in how salty they were but overall the meal was delicious! The crème brûlée was great and the accompanying dollops of custard added different realms of flavor to the dessert. This place is well worth a visit if you're in Copper Harbor. We will definitely be back when we return to the beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula!

My friends and I came here because we were recommended it by a few locals. Before I give my review, I should mention that I was disappointed with the lack of good food establishments in Copper Harbor. This place was by far the fanciest and best food in that town. But when you go to a town where there's no cell reception and hiking opportunities everywhere, you're not expecting/craving a fancy German restaurant. In fact, I'd argue, you're in the mood for some good home cooking restaurants and maybe an interesting brewery. I would also say that when I think of German food, I think of a big pretzel and some type of sausage. I feel the same way about German food as I do Indian, it's better as unrefined comfort food. With all that being said, we were looking for tasty food but in a much more relaxed environment. This restaurant is very fancy. It's on the water and has a beautiful patio. When we got there, we decided to just get apps and dessert because like I said, we weren't in the mood for a fancy dining experience. We got the WI goat cheese and Jagerwurst appetizer - both were VERY tasty. I don't remember what desserts we got but they were super good too. So clearly this place is really good. If you're in the mood for fancy German food after hiking at Isle Royale, this is your place! Two notes: 1) According to my husband, their men's bathroom door doesn't lock, so people bust in on you. 2) All the servers do a dance on the patio as the ferry from Isle Royale comes into harbor. It's cute to watch and they probably get good business from doing that.

Great food, a wonderful view of Lake Superior, and absolutely outstanding service. Be sure to try their watermelon salad.

Our food was excellent, the server was awesome and the room for our dinner was great. Party of 14 adults and 2kids. Everyone was very happy with their meals.

Quite unexpected that a really good German restaurant is here in this little town Copper Harbor in the remote north. Don't miss this if you are in or around town, worth the drive. Make a reservation ahead, keeping in mind that there is no cell service in much of this region.

We have been going to copper harbor with friends for quite a few years and finally planned ahead far enough to get a dinner reservation. The crab cakes and white fish dip were great starters. The special for the night was pork shank with mashed potatoes and gravy and seasonal vegetables. I substituted mushroom risotto for potatoes. This was one of the most delicious meals I have ever had. I'm a big eater and I could barely finish it. Another dish our party had was the bacon wrapped fish. It was delicious but bacon did overpower the fish a bit. The display of the food was beautiful. Had just enough room for half a piece of carrot cake which was fantastic. Service was great and all parts of meal arrived promptly. Will definitely go back.

My only regret is not trying this place sooner. This is by far the best restaurant in the UP. I was sad to learn it's being sold. The new owners will have some very big shoes to fill.

The best menu in Copper Harbor. Service can be a bit " leisurely" but the food is good. And the view is the best! It frankly doesn't look like much from the approach but once you're inside that all changes. A class place.

The ambiance and view are great, and the hostess and server were very friendly. The fresh whitefish was excellent, but the schnitzel with spaetzle was very bland. It was a very expensive meal, so it was disappointing that the food did not meet my expectations. I had wanted to eat here for several years, but I don't think I would go back.

Such wonderful food and professional staff! Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions. The lake fish is fresh and delicious, there's a full bar and excellent oval beer offerings. We had a table near the windows and the view was nothing short of amazing. The ambiance is upscale but we had spent the day hiking and were warmly greeted at the door and seated immediately. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop in again.

Once of the nicer establishments in town. Great selections for all categories. Jumbo shrimp special with risotto fantastic. Korean lollipops a lil messy but worth it. Pan fried white fish w/capers had very little capers or sauce and didn't enjoy the outside powder or seasoning, not sure what it was and disappointed. Would like to try again. Lovely atmosphere. Lovely wines.

My wife and I went out for our anniversary dinner. It was a rainy evening, yet the upstairs seating near the window was just perfect, as is the view of Lake Superior. Our meal began with an appetizer that was a first for us, duck lived pate with egg, sprouts, and jelly. Delicious. Then beets with feta cheese. The entrees were beef tenderloin medallions & lobster tail, and pork tenderloin. Topped off with crème brûlée for dessert with great coffee. Great view, perfect meal, a great evening. Thank you.

We were told to have dinner here when we were visiting Copper Harbor. It was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was so beautiful on the shore of Lake Superior. The charm of the decor also helped add to the experience. George was so nice to share various drinks (Iron Fish etc) made in the area. The meal... where do I start? Everything we had was amazing. The appetizers, salads, main meal. I personally recommend the bacon wrapped white fish. This place is a must if in the area!!!

Fantastic food. I had the Gratineed Fresh oysters. Really good. Also I had the the Jager Schnitzel with Spatzle. My husband had the ribeye rare and it was done to perfection. I had a bite and it was excellent tasting. We had the Bourbon pecan pie which was ok but the Belgian soufflé looked like it would have been a winner. I saw 4 ordered at the next table. I will definitely go back. Although the Jager schnitzel was good, I would like to try trout or whitefish next time. Staff was great. Very attentive.

Very good food and service. We were pleasantly surprised to find this quality of food. Tempura Shrimp appetizer was excellent. House salad with creamy bacon was very good. Wife had trout and I had pork tenderloin. If your in Copper Harbor this is a must try.

Beautiful setting, over looking the lake. The food was amazing! We each had a different fish entree. He had the lake trout and I had the white fish. Both fresh and extremely tasty. Nothing ordinary here along with excellent watermelon salad and house made smoked sausage with mushrooms, onions and garlic for appetizer. And don't forget dessert. We enjoyed the bread pudding. Nice wine selection, good mixed drinks.

We had an early dinner here (reservations highly recommended as they were booked full post 6pm). Warmly greeted at the door and taken to our table upstairs with a beautiful view of Lake Superior. Enjoyed the smoked trout appetizer followed by whitefish (mine bacon wrapped, hers capers and butter) both we're excellent along with a fairly priced bottle of Chardonnay. Our waitress, Hannah, was attentive, helpful and fun to talk with. Highly recommend you try Harbor Haus if your in the area.

This place is amazing! The waitstaff are very well trained, knowledgeable, and pleasant. There is not a bad view in the house! Now let's get to the food... I dream about their Jaeger schnitzel! This time I had the special, Beef medallions, Stroganoff style, over ravioli. YUM!

The food is always incredible and the views from any table are amazing. Always try the daily special and you won't regret it.

My family and I were so tired from driving all day, we were practically dead when we arrived at the restaurant but after this meal, we were back alive again! Everything tasted so good!! My favorite was the pate. It was smooth and flavorful. It went very well with the jams and would recommend it as a starter to share. The place is a long ways from Hawaii, but I hope I can go back one day.

This place was a great place to stop. View was amazing. The staff was super nice and friendly! The food was amazing. Shrimp chowder soup was excellent! Hosin ribs for appetizer was the best appetizer I have ever had. Don't miss out on this fabulous treat.

Excellent, as always. Ordered: planked whitefish, schnitzel, and crab cakes. We had the pretzel fondue appetizer (special of the day for apps). Everyone ordered salads, 1 garden, 1 Caesar , 1 beet and feta salad. For dessert- black forest and carrot. Black forest was yummy, loved the carrot, too.

As all informed, travelling diners know, they face a series of decisions when coming to a nice restaurant; especially given if a particular establishment is pretty much the only restaurant around. It is times like these that the informed, travelling diner must be creative. Additionally, it is helpful if a restaurant, like Harbor Haus, allows for the diner's imagination to take flight. Harbor Haus is listed as a German restaurant, but seems more tailored to lake cusine (both are excellent). With a menu this varied, it helps the diner to creatively ask themselves a few questions (1) are you, the diner, coming-in to look for what course pairs best with which wine; or, (2) do you, the diner, come-in, immediately get sticker-shock (understandable), and go for the thriftiest options; or, (3) do you, the diner, put yourself in a certain time-and-place and try it imagine a realistic yet tasty combination that fits the establishment's theme, the surrounding natural enviornment, and the local community's history - basically, engaging in sort of historical virtual-reality for the itineret foodie. In a case study, this diner, chose option (3). So here is the question: What would be the most likely meal for a German immigrant working and living on or near the great lake? Answer: Lake Superior Whitefish (entree) with Potato Pancakes (appetizer); local tap water and warm coffee made for a realistic and affordable coda. Try it, it is highly doubtful you, the diner, will be disappointed in either the restaurant or the strategy. Prost & Happy Travels!

Easily the best food on the Keweenaw Peninsula. That's it. Go. Make a reservation when you know you're going to be in the Harbor.

Still a great place to eat, but I dropped my rating from a 5 to a 4 because of these reasons: 1. My party of eight for my wedding had to deal with half of the entrees coming out lukewarm. 2. The bathrooms were out of order and we had to use an outhouse. The word "outhouse" and "Harbor Haus" should never be used in the same sentence, but here, it applies. It happened. 3. The staff is distant and indifferent since the Waaras sold it in 2015. It used to feel like family, now it feels sterile and transactional. I've eaten here over 100 times since 1996, so few know this place better than me through the decades. 4. The potato pancakes are no longer crispy. 5. The Grandma Dyson pie is now portion sized for a mouse. Overall, it's still a solid "4," but it is like comparing a 1967 427 Corvette to a 1984 Corvette. It's still a nice car, but the magic is gone.

Harbor Haus earned a 5 star from us! We had been driving for a few hours and we were so excited to make it to our final destination of the day. We wanted food, we need food, and we wanted our experience to be spectacular! I was so excited when he found the perfect place for us to have a late lunch. We strolled down to the water, walked in and were immediately seated. We asked to sit outside so we could enjoy the beauty of Lake Superior. I have to say it was a bit surreal for me. I have lived in Michigan my entire life and have never been this far north. It was beyond beautiful and the day was picture perfect. The Harbor Haus is a German inspired restaurant from the food to the drinks. I ordered a delicious berry cocktail and he ordered a German Style beer. We enjoyed every minute sitting together and experiencing life! We decided to order an appetizer, the goat cheese spread, which was delicious. For our main entrees, We ordered lobster bisque soup, crab cake and fish sandwich. The food was fantastic and the view.....priceless!

We ate here four years ago and had one of the best meals we ever had so when we returned to the area for a vacation we had to come here again. We walked in and shown to a wonderful window table upstairs overlooking the water. Our server, Matt, came over and took our drink orders and returned shortly to take our food order. I chose the Seafood Variety again and my wife chose the Whitefish special. It was the same thing we ordered the last time here and again it outstanding. We took our time, drank our wine and had a very enjoyable meal. We can't wait to come back.
