18 Top Asian Desserts in NYC - Eater NY

"Best known for their visually striking cream cakes, HARBS, the NYC offshoot of a Tokyo-based cafe, has the same eye for minimalist, precise detail in both the store experience and the cakes. Delicately light in flavor with well-structured sponge, HARBS cakes may not be for those faint of dairy, but every cake bears a distinct HARBS interpretation. The mille crepe, for example, has few layers but is stuffed with banana, strawberry, and other fresh fruit. Their marron (chestnut), strawberry cream, and banana cream cakes are standouts. Dine in at the airy Soho flagship to get the full HARBS experience, including sharply attired servers, delicate flatware and tea sets, and a window display-like cake counter." - John Tsung, Liza de Guia

Nice food and staffs were very friendly and provided excellent customer service. I ordered a pasta with a lunch set ($30 dollars which the pasta worths $26), it comes with a salad, choose of coffee, english tea, Japanese tea and a half slice of cake. Good atmosphere. The cake was very good I ordered two more slices for takeaway!

I love coming here for lunch! Came to dine in on a weekday during lunch hour, wasn't crowded and service was nice. Ordered the lunch set and an extra slice of cake. A bit on the pricey side but 100% worth the visit solo or with a friend. Was able to take my time.

This place is awesome. Jason was a superstar, so helpful at explaining each cake. We had a nice time. These are high quality cakes. I don’t think the other bad reviewers are fair, or even real. Definitely good people running this shop. My only wish is that they use better matcha that has a good taste.

We ordered Ala carte lunch and it came with a salad and bread with garlic butter and olive oil. It was a good deal. The seafood pasta was better than the bolognese pasta. It came with a good side of Japanese toasted bread and the garlic butter was very good. The ambience was nice and quiet, away from the bustling noise in NYC.

I’d been to HARBS in Japan but this was my first time in NYC. One of my friends loves this place, so we came here for lunch today. The cafe is quite spacious with high ceilings and I really liked the atmosphere. There was still plenty of seating when we arrived at 12:30pm, but within an hour or so, it was quite full. We ordered the Lunch Special, which is available from 11am - 3pm. They have a pasta set ($28+) and sandwich set ($25+), both of which come with: - Side salad - Lunch slice of today’s cake - Cup of coffee or English breakfast tea (*free refills) We ordered 2 pasta sets and decided to share 2 different pastas: - Pescatora - Lemon & Parmigiano Overall, the food was good. The side salad could’ve used a little less dressing, but it was nice to have some greens. Both pastas were quite tasty and there was so much of it that we could’ve easily shared amongst 3 people. For today’s cake, we had the option of one of the following: - Fresh Fruit Mille Crepes - Chocolate Cake - Pear Mille-Feuille I tried the Pear Mille-Feuille, which had delicious cream and sliced pears inside. The cream-puff style crust was a little too heavy for me, though, after all of the pasta. I’ll try the Fresh Fruit Mille Crepe next time. In terms of service, they were very attentive when we first arrived probably because it was less busy. I didn’t realize (and my friend forgot) that the tea / coffee would be served at the start of the meal, instead of with the dessert. So by the time we were having dessert, we needed to order refills even though we hadn’t finished our drinks, because they were no longer warm. By then, restaurant was full and it took a while for us to get our drinks. I’d recommend asking them to bring the drinks with dessert, unless you want coffee/tea with your meal. My friend and I had a lovely meal and I look forward to coming back again for lunch or tea time.

Harbs is one of my favorite cake shops in NYC. These Japanese cakes were delicious, not too sweet like American cakes. The fresh fruit mille crêpes are a must-try! They also have good teas and fresh juice to pair with cakes

Google
It has a relaxing vibe and I could totally imagine myself reading a book ordering a slice of cake, a cup of coffee. However the price is pretty steep for a slice of cake, and honestly I don't find it extremely impressive , it feels a blend of raw ingredients/ fruit with whipped cream for the fruit crepes , the strawberry cake texture feels a bit same way. YMMV. Service has been pretty good, no complaints.

Yelp
It just gets more and more expensive everytime I come here. One slice is cake is 18?? US dollars? Please this is not worth it. The place is bright and spatial, u can try it here once a while but it prob will break ur wallet if u come here all the time haha

Yelp
Nice interior and clean establishment. Service could use some work, though the hostess person behind counter was very courteous and helpful. We ordered the Mango mousse cake and Matcha red beans cream cake. Both were delicious and light, wish they used less of the regular whipped cream and put in more matcha cream or cake though. Also, we got the iced yuzu green tea and hot hojicha caramel tea, but the yuzu green tea had no yuzu flavor but the hojicha had a surprising noticeable caramel aroma and taste to it. Highkey want to eat the matcha red beans cream cake for my birthday every year, but it is so expensive, even more than Lady M's large matcha crepe cake.

Yelp
Harbs is a great place to have teatime in Soho. There's plenty of tables available and lots of space to rest after a busy shopping day. The servers were welcoming and attentive to our needs. I'd recommend getting any of their hot teas (I've had their yuzu sencha and genmai matcha- both of which are amazing and pair great with their cakes) with a slice of cake. The strawberry sponge cake is my favorite. I only took off a star in this review because the prices were definitely on the higher end, even for NYC, and each person has to order their own tea (they won't bring a second cup even though the pot can serve two people).

Yelp
Came in for lunch on a wed seated immediately Dress code: casual, came in shorts and a t Food 4.5/5: had the lunch special which included an omelette sandwich, house salad, iced black tea and fruit Mille feuille. Toast for the sandwich was soggy by the time it got to me but otherwise everything was quite tasty Ambiance 4/5: clean, cute cafe, well lit, but nothing that wowed Service 4.5/5: orders were memorized. Service was friendly and quick with water refills, food took a while to come out but otherwise no issues. Value 4.5/5: fairly good value for their lunch special, especially in NYC Overall 4.5/5: overall a good experience, would come again if I'm in the area. Parking: lol...nyc

Yelp
This place is such a cool treat! Inside is very clean, literally and figuratively! Clean lines, clean atmosphere, and the staff look like surgeons! You could probably eat off the floor. Staff is very efficient and friendly. We arrived late in the evening prior to close, and they were still professional enough to continue seating people rather than shooing them away. There was only one choice in desserts left, and you can tell how good this place is because everyone stayed even when greeted with that fact, ordering the last and only choice along from a great selection of teas! I recommended you arrived earlier when you can sample from a wider array of their desserts!

Yelp
Harb always good for cakes and tea. Plenty of cake selection. Delicious but can run out of some favorites. May need to wait for tables and service can but a tad slow. Good service. Air condition can be stronger

Yelp
Harbs is a rather large bakery situated in Soho with plenty of seating. I came hair right after a 4 hour hair salon session. I made it in time for their daily lunch special (11am - 3pm). It comes with any pasta ($28) or sandwich ($25), lunch slice of today's cake, and a cup of coffee or breakfast tea. For the lunch special, I ordered a pescatora pasta which was on the salty side with tomato sauce. It came with a salad which was delicious. There were 3 options for the slice of the day -- cherry cheese souffle, fresh fruit mille crepe, and white peach cheesecake. I chose the fruit mille crepe. It was a half slice and was fairly light. The variety of fruit gave it an interesting mix of sweet and tasty. Service was a bit slow but it had a relaxing ambiance. I would return to try the other cakes.

Yelp
Today I love their pear Mille feille- and we had the set menu with refillable drink - tea or coffee. It also came with salad! And also tasty potatoes even if it did not have butter.

Yelp
Knocking off a star for the wonky vibes. The place was crazy popular on weekends, but if you go an hour before closing like we did, the place was relatively empty. Despite its appearance as a bakery, it's actually a sit-down type place. I wasn't sure how to order at first given every worker was behind the counter, and no one was approaching us either. There was a minimum order amount. The tea pots are also meant for 1 person! They were hella strict about it, I was baffled when they really said only 1 cup allowed. Nonetheless, the White Grape Jasmine ($9.50) was so fragrant! There were actual grapes inside. Their flavoring is so strong, the tea does get bitter towards the end. Their cake was actually so good! The Berry Berry Cake ($16) in particular was soooo creamy and fresh tasting! I know the cream may look heavy, and I don't even like cream, but the ones they use here are so light! Plus, the strawberries were so sweet and juicy! I was berry berry impressed. Note they have bidets here, how fancy. The teapot ordeal is a turnoff, but this is a great little cafe to catch up with friends over delectable cakes!

Yelp
Come here again for my favorite Waguri Tarte and so happy to see they have the seasonal Sakura mousse cake today. Another must try if you see it!

Yelp
Was able to easily secure a seat for 2 here on a Saturday afternoon! We ordered a slice of the strawberry cake, cherry cheese souffle, and the pear mille-feuille to share. I'm glad that we got to try so many options but I will say that 3 cakes between 2 people was a bit too ambitious of a feat, esp considering how generous they are here with each slice of cake. The strawberry cake here is definitely the star of the show! I feel like I could eat endless amounts of this bc it's super light and not too sweet. Also has lots of fresh strawberries in each layer. My second favorite was the cherry cheese souffle. The texture of this is absolutely incredible -- a notch up in terms of fluffiness/airiness compared to most Japanese cheesecake's I have tried. I believe they do use dried cherries in this cake though which I personally find to be a bit too sweet eaten on it's own, but is a good balance paired with a large bite of the cheesecake. The pear mille-feuille was the heaviest of the three due to the many layers of pastry in this cake. It very much gave me deconstructed cream puff vibes (as that's essentially what mille-fueille is), elevated with the addition of sliced pears. I love this cake for what it is, but imo the other 2 cakes in our order outshined this one. I think I'm personally just a fan of the lighter/fluffier cakes.

Carol S.

Yelp
It's expensive but worth it. A slice of cake is $15 and whole cake is about ~$104+. We tried the marron cake (sweet potato and chestnut) and the green tea mousse cake. Both were so moist and delicate; filled with cream. The Hoijicha caramel tea was divine and so was the organic Matcha tea. We do not feel rushed, and the staff was very attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
The cake was delicious. It was so soft. We ordered the Mango mousse and Strawberry mille-feuille. The wait for the cake and drinks took quite a long I felt. We ate the mango mousse before our tea (fruit tea and Yuzu tea) came. I was a bit disappointed since I wanted to drink tea with the cake. The cakes in the bakery are limited. If it sold out, it's sold out for the day. The time my friend and I went to the bakery, was about 5 p.m. By the time we finished, it was sold out and that was after 6 p.m. I think it is better to visit early in the day so you can try other cakes that are on the menu. Overall, I enjoyed the visit. I would come back and try other cakes. It is quite expensive. Each slice costs $15. It is required that you order at least one item on the menu for each customer if you are dine-in.

Yelp
The reviews are a hit or miss. I haven't been to the other location though from what I understand, this one is less busy and has more space. Keep in mind, I went on a really cold snowy Saturday during lunchtime. Originally we were seated near the back in the center of the restaurant with 2 round tables placed together, not a lot of space for 6 people eating lunch. We asked if we could move to the table vacated by guests who finished and left. The servers accommodate and now we are comfortably situated with a table perfect for 6 people The lunch deal is not bad for the price (Daily 11AM-3PM). Keep in mind, this is a heavy carb meal: - sandwich (2 options + croque monsieur) or pasta dish (4 options) which comes with a salad. - slice of cake (lunch portion, not regular portion which I heard is huge). - coffee or english breakfast tea (free refill upon request) The pasta was a mid-sized portion. Constant refill of our tea or coffee when asked. Servers remembered who offered coffee/tea. There was a bit of confusion since it was dark or medium coffee while ordering but later a different server referred to the coffee name, once that was sorted out it was easy to order the refills. Since everyone ordered a different dessert, we got to try: - fruit tart - pear tart (best one!) - chocolate (second best) - rare cheesecake We stayed there and were able to catch up with each other. Great food, great service, great ambiance, and great company - what more can you ask for!

Yelp
The place is great for afternoon tea. I was only disappointed on the limited choices they had on the day. Nothing had a wow factor. Superb service especially they went an extra mile and helped me charge my cell phone. Love the space and the restroom decor :)

Yelp
Came here 02/17/2024. This cafe is without a sliver of a doubt the worst service I have ever experienced in my life. It took us an hour to get seated which is understandable at busy times. We weren't greeted by a server until about 15 minutes after we were seated, then we ordered two slices of cake and a coffee. That's it. It took 1 and a half hours for us to get two slices of cake and a coffee. We flagged down our waitress 4 times and each time she said it would be out right away. They definitely aren't making the cakes fresh, they just take them out of the display case and cut them. We never got offered water, had to ask for it, and it never came. I asked for the manager because I thought it was unreasonable. A young skinny Asian person with a mask came out and refused to offer us ANYTHING or remove anything. It was so unreal. Reading the reviews, this seems like a common trend. Avoid at all costs.

Yelp
A few days ago, I was able to try this branch of Harbs in NYC. The cafe was packed but I didn't have to wait for a long time. I got a pot of iced yuzu sencha and a slice of the fruit mille crepes cake. The iced yuzu sencha was refreshing. Unfortunately, my slice of cake didn't arrive until like 30 minutes later. The cake had slices of fresh strawberries, kiwi, bananas and cantaloupe and custard cream. It was very light and refreshing. Staff was friendly but service was way too slow. If service improves, I would definitely give it a full 5 stars!

Yelp
I've visited the Harbs in Chelsea a few times but this is my first time visiting the Soho location. This location feels bigger, more spacious. I liked how there's an open bar design so you can see the staff making drinks. The service here is definitely slower than the Chelsea location but it also looked busier. I liked how the Chelsea location staff were more attentive and made sure to refill my drinks and water. Here, the staff was also very friendly but few times my water cup would be empty. The staff was nice and if you flag one down, they attend to you quickly! We both ordered the lunch set - we both got the pasta set ($28) which comes with unlimited coffee/ English breakfast tea, slice of today's cake, and your selected pasta. We asked for a iced breakfast tea which was no problem. The lunch set also same with a small salad which we were pleasantly surprised about since it wasn't noted on the menu. We got the seafood pasta and the lemon pasta. Both pastas were okay (it's not mind blowing good pasta but it was decent). The seafood in the pasta didn't feel particularly fresh but the lemon pasta tasted refreshing. For the cakes, there was three choices for today - strawberry mousse, fresh fruit crepe cake, and I think a cream cheese crepe cake? We got the strawberry mousse which was light and delicious and the fresh fruit crepe cake is decent. The lunch special cake slices are significantly smaller - it's like a smaller sliver. Oh, they had the Japanese toilets with the bidet and the seat opens up when you stand in front of it. Overall, I liked the atmosphere. The location is good in Soho and perfect for a break in between shopping. The food is decent but I think I'll stick with the sandwiches. The sandwiches tasted better IMO. Great place to just come eat and chat. We didn't feel rushed at all either which I liked.

Yelp
White Peach Cheesecake has strong taste of peach, but I felt more like using white peach extract instead of the fresh fruit. Cream Cheese Mille Crepes doesn't have mille crepes, not like Lady M, but it has rich cream cheese and fresh blueberry. Both of the cake taste okay. I spent the whole afternoon chatting with my friends here, the staffs keep refilling water for us, very friendly and nice service, I can say this is a really good place for afternoon high tea time dessert in Manhattan, NY.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this spot! I stumbled upon this cafe when I was around the area. I was looking for a quick lunch before I went back to work. First I will say it is different and really unique. It appears that they have a location in Japan. Which it originated from. They are famous for the cakes and crepes. They had a lunch special so I decided to get the BLT sandwich. If you come during the lunch time you can get sandwich or pasta. With that you're allowed to get a piece of cake of the day and coffee or tea. I decided to go for the English breakfast tea. If you dine in they come and serve you and they are really nice and friendly. Overall great spot. Calm setting.... A bit pricey but not bad if you're just going to try it out.

Yelp
~ Strawberry Cake ~ I really love this strawberry cake! Strawberry cake is a very classic dessert and very popular in Japan. I tried HARBS many years ago in Tokyo and remembered it to be good. Japanese has never let me down quality control wise for overseas franchise. The sponge is very light, fluffy and moist. The cream is silky smooth, light and airy, and the best thing is it's not sweet at all! There are a lot of fresh strawberries, with every bite you get the sweet strawberries matching perfectly with the cream and sponge. Will I be back? Yes!! Price is a bit steep, $15 for a slice, hence knocking a star off. Nonetheless, this is a perfect strawberry cake for me, and I am too scared to try a similar cake in other bakeries as they could be too sweet & heavy for Asians. I will keep coming back as long as I can afford it. Next time I want to try the matcha!

Yelp
I came here on a rainy afternoon weekend and the vibes were immaculate. The place was super clean and the tables had hooks/ jacket hangers around them. The place itself was bigger than dominique basel which is super duper cramped. Staff had on very cute work outfits. There is also a restroom available. The staff were attentive even if they weren't specifically in charge of your table. We got seated promptly and menus were brought over. I loved that it was more of a dine in experience, but if you'd like to take stuff to go in a rush you can also do that. We went for the lunch set ($27-$28) which came with tea/coffee (free refills), salad, pasta/sandwich, and then your choice of cake from their today specials (3 options when i went). I got the lemon pasta which had warm lemons I got to squeeze. It was refreshing and unique! I did crave some sort of protein though. The salad was also good and tasted fresh. I got the chocolate cake which had nuts in it and brandy. It was a good balance of being mousey but also cakey. The slices were thin because it's a lunch special and already a great deal. My friends peacardo pasta was so good. The sauce wasn't too sour and the protein was good. The pear cake gave me breakfast vibes, on how it was more doughy but still soft. That was good as well! The cakes paired well with the free hot tea/coffee. The salad was such a good starter and paired well with the pasta.

Yelp
We enjoyed the strawberry cake ($15) and fruit mille crepe cake ($16). Both were pricey per slice but we enjoyed the experience. We had the hojicha caramel and I liked the tea but they only gave one tea cup for two people. The place is classy and has lots of seating. They make the cake fresh and they were sold out of the strawberry cake after we got one at around 7pm.

Jiatong S.

Yelp
Tiramisu is delicious, but after entering the door, I saw bugs on the cake in the showcase, so I was a little worried, hoping to see a cleaner environment next time.

Yelp
I was honestly pleasantly surprised at how spacious this restaurant is. I arrived at 6pm and the kitchen closes at 6pm sharp so it's cake and tea time from then until they close at 8pm. I got a peach cheesecake slice which was absolutely delicious - I shared it with my friend and maybe we should have gotten more food but we were kind of trying to figure out if we could consume all of it to begin with. Overall the ambiance is excellent and I would hang out here to read a book and feel classy by eating some cheesecake. The cheesecake itself is light and airy which is refreshing considering the absurdly dense and rich chunks that are typical NYC cheesecake. I definitely consider it to be some of the best cheesecake I've had and will have to come back for the other food. I read from other reviews that it can get pretty crowded during the day, but 6pm on a Thursday had lots of seating so it'd be a great spot to check out if you're a craver of sweets and tea at dusk.

Yelp
I used to love harbs and it is a very often place we go. I usually brought my 4 yr old son together and My son loved their chocolate cake and omelet sandwich. But this afternoon my son started vomiting unstoppable and I also felt severe headaches and nausea too. I felt the egg tend to come up from my throat and what my son vomited is all solid egg residuals. We didn't have other food today besides harbs lunch so far. We contacted harbs and they kept saying the chef thinks the food is ok. We went to the ER and the doctor agreed with us it seems like food poison because we both had same symptom and my son didn't have fever but vomit and belly discomfort. Avoid this place, they don't take food safety as their top priority

Yelp
I've bought cakes at this location before but never sat down and dine in. I was always curious why the rating was so low. This time, I went there with my friend last Saturday and now I understand why. It was full around 3:30 and there were 5 or 6 groups ahead of us. We walked around trying to find another dessert place, but was all packed. So we came back after maybe 10-15 mins and we were seated right away. Here's what goes down. First, the table was still dirty when we were seated. It was not even cleaned. You can see the water marks and some cake crumbs in the table. The girl who showed us in were like "oh I didn't see anything" and put the menus on it. I asked her if she can clean the table, she didn't respond anything, turned away, and went to kitchen and grabbed some wet towel and wiped our table. I was expecting some apologies or at least greetings, but not a single word from her. Then, after we ordered a piece of Peach Cheesecake and a pot of Green Grape Jasmine tea, another server, who were friendlier, brought us a set of tea cup and saucer. Normally when you see two people ordering a tea pot, you bring two sets of cups, but they only brought us one. Fine. But here's was what kinda grossed me out. The saucer, not only has water marks on it, but also some other marks that I'm not sure what it is (it looks like greasy oil residual), AND a few dark spots. The cup has water marks on it all over and something appears to be dish soap residual, like when you didn't wash it off completely and left it dry. I bet they only put the cups in the dishwasher and didn't even clean the saucer. This is unacceptable because you don't know how many times the saucer was reused without being cleaned... The tea and the cake were OK. They were too "busy" to check on us after the order. I don't think I'll dine in again. Maybe just order the cake to go like I used to.

Yelp
FOOD: 5/5 | SERVICE: 3/5 I came here on a weekday afternoon with a few friends. I got the coffee flavored cake, which was super decadent and crumbly. I also loved the little jellies! It was on the pricey side, but the quality was definitely there. The store wasn't too crowded (there were some open seats) but the service was really slow. We flagged down the server for our bill, and didn't get it for at least another 20 minutes :(

Yelp
Very much not a fan of HARBS after a visit that left me unenthused with the cake and service. We stopped by for dessert on a very chilly day. The cakes are pretty expensive at $12-14 a slice but I've heard that they are made exquisitely and wanted to try. We were approached by a waitress who brought water a few minutes after sitting down but she left as if in a hurry without asking us if we had questions about the menu or wanted to order. We ordered the mocha cake and a Royal Milk tea. The waitress told us that the tea is a single serving only, which we accepted without a second thought. The tea actually came in a medium size pot and is definitely sharable, but they only provide one cup per order of tea. I understand their policy that customers need to order one item each but the cup policy was a little unreasonable to me. The tea itself was described as assam tea with milk. Though black teas usually have a bold flavor, I found that my milk tea tasted like 80% milk and 20% tea. The steamed milk was lovely but it's definitely not what I had in mind when I ordered a milk tea. We wanted the cake to lift our spirits but it fell short of expectations. The cake's construction was perfection: light sponge, airy density, velvety cream. However, we both agreed that the flavor was lacking. It wasn't sweet enough and the mocha flavor was only present in wisps. The coffee jellies added a nice touch though. Perhaps someone who likes mildly sweet desserts would enjoy HARBS more, but I've decided one visit here is enough. Service was not too attentive or friendly even though it was not that busy, and we found ourselves trying extra hard to get a waitress's attention. It is a beautiful space that looks like a British tea room, but for the price, I would rather have Paris Baguette or Tous Le Jour's cake.

Yelp
Among the Asian bakeries I've been to, this is definitely one of them. It's pretty cute and clean inside with ample seating. That being said, do NOT eat in here. Take your stuff to go if you want cake. It gets busy, so expect a 20-30 minute wait to be seated. This much is fine, but you're rapidly forgotten about after being seated. The time between being seated and having our order taken was another 20 mins, and then the time between that and us getting our cake was almost an hour. As much as I like Japanese cakes, and as much as I feel for the thin staffing, waiting for a total of 2 hours to have someone cut a $15 slice of already-made cake, put it on a plate, and walk it 50 feet to you is *ridiculous.* Especially if you have to keep reminding staff that you exist. The cakes themselves were good. Fluffy, light, moist, with rich frosting and toppings. I had the marron cake, which was pleasantly sweet, earthy, nutty, and with just a bit of rum flavoring. Lots of chunks of moist chestnut throughout. My friends enjoyed theirs too; my second favorite was the chocolate puff. If I were to come back, I'd try buying a slice to go, putting my name down for the cafe seating, ordering coffee when seated, and eating my *already sliced and boxed* cake in less than two hours. But I won't come back.

Yelp
I was here at this fancy Japanese dessert shop perhaps a few weeks ago and I had a bad experience. I have been to another location in Chelsea a couple times though just for takeout but as I was planning on walking for a lot longer and the packaging didn't really hold up last time at the other spot, I decided to sit down. It took a while to be served and eventually I got some water and a slice of the pear mille-feuille not really wanting any food there which appeared to annoy the person a little bit (yes I don't want your overpriced food as you are a dessert shop. Go figure.) Said dessert was described as a cream puff style crust layered with mixed cream and sliced pears. For a place that is serving a slice of cake that is around $14 including tax and a bit more so after tip, the desert was served in a subpar way. Some of the cream had leaked as it had not been transferred properly from the case to the plate which is understandable. However, it was also still served with the tinfoil and compared to many of the other people sitting there, I felt like I was being treated like a cheapskate as I just wanted dessert. There were other people there who also got the same cake and they lacked the tin foil. The cake itself was tasty with a flaky crust with a good lightly sugary crust. The pear flavor could have been a bit stronger but Japanese desserts don't tend to be that sweet so I didn't really mind as I didn't expect it to be too fruity. I gave a smaller tip than I usually would and nothing was said as I left. I usually wouldn't judge a place this much on service but when the desserts are this expensive, I expect to be served like other people eating there. The cake not being transferred is a perfectly normal human error especially for a cream filled cake like this one and I can easily give this a pass. The tin foil still being on the plate however just really wasn't nice and spoke to how I was being treated even compared to a table literally just a few feet away from me. The pear dessert probably gets around 3 stars or so (definitely worse than the mixed fruit mille crepe and especially the banana cream) but still tasty but the service drags it down immensely. 1 for the slow terrible service.

Yelp
I love this place!! The cakes I tried were all wonderful: strawberry, mocha, and cheesecake. They all had an amazing light texture and were not too sweet. The service is wonderful and the ambiance is warm. I would love to try their teas as well!

Yelp
Perfect place to grab a bite with friends you haven't seen in a hot minute where you can satisfy your sweet and savory needs. I love the big, open space and the quiet decor. There's nothing splashy, and that's exactly what you'd expect in a Japanese cafe bistro. The lunch special is affordable and seems to be what everyone was ordering. We naturally got the pescatora and chicken with mushrooms. I found the seafood pasta to be quite delicious whereas my buddy thought her dish was a bit too salty. Her slice of green tea mousse included red beans, which was a nice touch. Her cake tasted better than my Queen of Cake; it felt as if there was alcohol despite it not listing any in the menu. Since we weren't going anywhere fast, had room for more dessert, and just wanted to catch up some more, we ordered the fresh fruit mille crepe, and I liked that the most out of the three slices of cakes. All in all, pretty darn good!

Yelp
Went to try the lunch special which includes a choice of pasta or sandwich with coffee or tea and half a slice of cake. Let me tell you that cake was delicious! It's the cream! Was about to lick the cream off the plate. Not exaggerating at all. I'm already planning my next visit for my nieces birthdays.

Yelp
LOVE!!! This spot is Japanese inspired and you can definitely taste it through the quality of the cakes. We ordered the Queen of Cake, Fruit Mille Crepe, and Matcha Mousse, which are their most popular options. The cakes were so light and fluffy, the cream was perfectly (again) light and fluffy without any thickness or oilyness, and the fruits were fresh and well integrated. We also got the grape tea - it had hints of sweetness and floral scents; lovely palette cleanser. Also enjoyed the ambience of the store - its a nice open space with light colored furnitures, makes you feel airy and light lol. Quite popular spot so store was packed. Will definitely be back for more next time I visit NY.

Yelp
Don't care for the one cup per teapot policy, sort of makes sense why they would do that in my mind. Cakes expensive af but what do you expect in NYC and in Soho? They need to keep it up somehow. I've had HARBs many years ago and the green tea mousse and royal milk tea cake are divine.

Yelp
Spacious and elegant store with plenty comfortable indoor seatings. Great for sitting down and catching up with friends since it can be hard to find some casual sit down place in SoHo Fruit Mille crepe 4/5 Matcha mousse 5/5 Mocha cake 4/5 The cakes are good! The creme is a bit on the sweeter side for my own liking. The biggest negative is the price....one piece for $16 is very pricey. I don't think everything else justifies this price Warning: The cakes melt really fast if you are taking them to go and they won't taste as good if even you out them back into the refrigerator. I'd be cautious if you are traveling with them for longer than an hour. Best to eat right there

Yelp
This is a great vibe dessert café. If you like semi-fancy vibes, this is a good place to be at. The fresh fruit crepe cake that we got was not too sweet, and the quality is really good and very delicious. The place is clean and has lots of seating, washroom with bidet, and a variety of drink/beverage selections. The employees are also extra friendly and made sure to fill our water quite often. I was there on a Thursday afternoon roughly around lunch hours, and it was hella empty. But I wouldn't be surprised if it gets filled up on the weekends like everywhere else. However, I didn't like the one person one item policy although it's fair I guess. I was also disappointed by the portion sizes.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious cake with great choices of tea to boot. Location: Located in Soho on a relatively quieter side street, Harbs is surrounded by art galleries and artsy stores that enhance the atmosphere of the clean interior of the store. Food: I order the fruit mille crepe cake, which according to my friend is one of the store's unique cakes, and some Houjicha (tea made from roast green tea). The fruit mille crepe cake was delicious, but surprisingly heavy despite being made of layered crepes - the likely culprit, the creme sandwiches with each layer of fruit, though was delicious and matched the fruits very well. The Houjicha was a great pairing for the fruit mille crepe cake, since the earthy flavors of the burnt tea counteracted the sweetness of the cake. Service: The service was great on our visit. Price: At $16/ slice, Harbs' cakes are by no means cheap. You can easily go over $30s if you decide to order a tea to go with your cake. Verdict: Unique fruit crepe cake that is worth checking out if you're in Soho.

Yelp
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! First of all the staff is one of the rudest I have encountered ever. I went in and initially ordered a pasty and a coffee to go saw a empty stool in the bar and sat there with my friend to enjoy our food and the cashier refunded by payment so I could get charged the sit down charge insane. I would never recommend this place not even for my worst enemy. This is not all for this tragic experience my friend wanted to order an orange juice they told her that if I didn't order anything she couldn't either I asked if they had almond milk and they didn't, my dietary needs weren't fulfilled so I couldn't order anything she made the to go line and orange wasn't offered. OVERALL TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The rudeness was too much.

Yelp
Honestly, the cake is just OKAY. Like OKAY.... Not sure why it's so overhyped and OVERPRICED. A tiny slice cake for $18?!?!?! Like are you selling gold?!?!?!?!?! Like why is it so expensive? This is so unnecessary and overpriced... I know there are so many rich people in New York... but still $18 for a tiny slice of cake is unacceptable, given the cake is just okay nothing outstanding........ DO NOT RECOMMEND......

Yelp
Cute bakery/cafe in soho, service seems inconsistent. We walked by for a weekend brunch here - the exterior and interior is super cute. Its yet another Asian/European fusion type of cafe. I ended up picking out the $25 lunch set (tea, entree, and cake slice) which seemed like a nice way to sample their food. The bacon potato salad and the mille crepe were good and not too heavy. Service was puzzling. We were seated quickly and our waitress (Nao?) took our order, gave recommendations and was nice enough to update my order when I changed my mind. After that it was like she vanished from the restaurant and we never saw her again. Every time I wanted anything (to get my food, cake, or check..) I had to flag down another employee. It felt like I was in the twilight zone and the employees were avoiding us. Very bizarre experience.

Yelp
Very cute and spacious cafe in soho. I had this on my list of places to try and finally came here. I got the lunch special with my friend. It comes with either a pasta or sandwich, coffee or English tea and a slice of their cake. I got the lemon pasta and my friend got the bacon / tomato. The pasta was Al Dente, perfectly cooked and very well seasoned. The English tea was alright, not my usual type of tea but I didn't want coffee. We both opted for the strawberry cake which was decadent and airy. The servers who work here are very efficient and worked very diligently. They were quick to bring the food and the check. I would come back here and order something different.

Yelp
They took our order and then forgot about it. I came to New York for 5 hours to meet my friend and wasted 40 minutes here. Ridiculous.
