this cafe made me comfy. there was something comforting by the rusted metallic roofing for sidewalls, mixed with classic American Knick-knacks, model planes and cars, and appliances of the 50s. Any other color booths wouldn't have done it- the red pulls it together. Oh, and it was spookified (always appreciated ).
I came in for lunch on a Monday afternoon and wanted to explore. I searched the area near GGPark and southern comfort rose to the top for me at that moment. It's quiet with a few folks doing, and several more arrived soon. The air was clean and was moving. With high ceilings sometimes the air can sit be stagnant and I didn't get that sense. It had more of a quiet cafe vibe, no music-- I enjoyed it for what I wanted this afternoon.
The little corn muffins were delectable. I know the corny little jams are just that, and cheap, but I do delight in them and the simple, common person's pleasure of a smuckers strawberry jam
at a retro diner (/s) . If you're getting the chicken and waffles, honestly, take your corn muffins home! The chicken was juicy and hot. The waffle could have been more crispy as it came out though. I poured the honey on the wings as they came out and man, hit the spot .
I thought the $20 for the chicken and waffles could have been a few bucks cheaper ( if I'm being annoying ), but the meal was delicious and satisfying. Susan, the waitress, made it a wonderful experience with her warmth (and the residual conversations she had with patrons was pleasant to listen to). $27.87 for one, with a ginger ale ($4.75, which I believe was refillable).
