Where to Celebrate International Chardonnay Day in Tampa | Eater

"Eating dinner on an actual fishing boat can be a little…rocky. But eating inside a wood-paneled space filled with fresh catches and friendly servers that looks like eating on a boat? Way better. That’s the vibe at Harpoon Harry’s, where you can indulge in steamed crab with Old Bay butter, fried jumbo shrimp, and grilled mahi with lobster cream sauce alongside a glass of chardonnay. After, walk around the place and learn more about the legend of the pirate it was named for." - Matthew Meltzer

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had a great lunch at Harpoon Harry’s Crab House! The ambiance was relaxing and welcoming—no wait at all for a Wednesday lunch, which was a pleasant surprise. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely delicious! The crab cakes were flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the spinach artichoke dip with the blue crab topper was chef’s kiss—a must-try! Everything tasted fresh and was surprisingly affordable for the quality. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for great seafood, great service, and a great atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

We came to visit my aunt and she wanted to give us a tour and I wanted fresh seafood. So we found this place and it did not disappoint at all. The service was great, and our waiter was awesome. Daniel was very attentive and refilled our drinks. The food was very yummy and flavorful. My crab legs were so delicious with the bay butter. I definitely recommend this place to everyone.

I had girl dinner with my sister on our last night in Tampa. The appetizers are so good. Order the crab rangoon sushi! It is amazing! Cuban egg rolls were so good we had 2 servings!

I stopped in for lunch and everything went very well. I ordered a cup of crab bisque and a grouper sandwich. The bisque was tasty and the perfect temperature. The grouper was fresh and a generous portion. The place was busy and my server did a great job of taking care of me and the other guests.

This seafood restaurant is very close to Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa. Lots of indoor seating with upstairs and downstairs options. Second floor is accessible by elevator and stairs. Josh was our server and he was very nice and attentive. He cleaned the table after each course and kept the drinks full. Food however was at most a 5 out of 10. Food was extremely salty (understanding its fish, the food had way too much added salt). Sushi made me sick to my stomach the second I left the restaurant. Kids meal included a dessert but entrees were not the healthiest of choices. In a pinch I would eat hear again but not by choice. It is a nice place to grab a drink and maybe an appetizer for a business meeting. Personally I don’t think it’s worth the price. Plus parking is $20 or more around the restaurant which is disappointing.

We went here last-night after my daughter’s Volleyball tournament at the convention center. The reviews were very good and I can see why! My family was very happy with their meals. Our Server Sam was very good as well. He was very attentive and made sure had everything we needed. I’d definitely recommend trying this place out if you are in the mood for seafood and sushi! We will definitely try this place again. 5 ⭐️ experience all around.

Came for lunch today based on the reviews online. But sadly we were disappointed with the food. Our server Kyle was great and food came out promptly. Excellent chowder and crab bisque soups that was the best part of our meals. They were very accommodating to our dog too. First problem is the flies I think we were one of 2 customers there. Not sure if they were annoyed but it turned me off immediately. The food itself was presented well but it was just too salty and bland. We ordered calamari, it was plenty to share but it was tasteless and again flies kept coming after the food. Our main meals after soups were crab and shrimp quasadillas and shrimp with blue crab. The quasadillaa had too much cheese and again not much flavor and salty. The shrimp dish was better but still too much salt. I was fine with the pricing about $100. This was our first time and I can’t say I would recommend or return again sorry.

Google
Went to dinner here last night, definitely an enjoyable experience. Jordan was the waiter. He was very attentive and helpful and just made the evening pleasant. Ordered a shrimp pot, Tuna Tataki and Tampa hot. More than enough food to share with a second person. Presentation was beautiful. The flavor profiles were outstanding. Definitely left me and my friend satisfied. Will return again next time im in town.

Yelp
Yesterday me and my wife celebrated our 1st Anniversary and the food was AMAZING! But most importantly, the service was even BETTER! Thanks to Amy and Maggie. We will be back!!

Yelp
Popped in for lunch as it was close to my hotel. The positives: very good service, fun drink menu, close to a lot of the things. They update their menu regularly so you can always try something new. The not so good, unfortunately the food. The first soup I ordered (clam chowder) was so salty it was inedible. I actually sent it back which is unusual for me. The second one I tried, the crab soup, was not mixed well so there were lumps of flour but I appreciate the extra crab they gave me because of the mishap. It also was room temp, which defeats soup. I don't know that I'll be putting this on my list of places to hit on the Tampa waterfront unless perhaps I just needed a cocktail.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came out to celebrate a very rain 4th of July. We got there earlier than expected since no one was out on the roads, but the good folks let us be seated an hour earlier than our planned reservation. I really love the space here, which has a great nautical feel to it. From where we sat, we could see a good portion of a downtown street through the floor to ceiling window. We were greeted promptly and given ample time to peruse the menu for what we'd like. For me, I zeroed in on their seafood risotto after had their shrimp and grits in the past (which I'd also recommend). However, I've had shrimp n grits many many times in other places so I thought the risotto would be a change of pace. It had shrimps, lobster tail, and risotto covered in a delicious cream sauce. The green beans gave it a nice fresh, crispy crunch. I loved the crab bisque soup. That had a great flavor and a perfect creamy texture, crowned with a generous helping of crab meat, no less. I WAS gonna get dessert, but my server was honest and said he didn't like their key lime pie (which I can appreciate the honesty, lol) so I went ahead and got the bananas foster martini instead. I'm not much of a drinker, but I will say that it was certainly different from most and I loved the caramel drizzle in it. I'll definitely come back next time there's a special occasion, and next time, I'll try to the key lime just for the heck of it.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while running an errand. So warm and cozy when you first walk in. We headed to the bar area. Not crowded at all and a nice warm lighting. Bartender very friendly. Ordered a couple of beers and they were nice and cold! We decided to split a steak and I got the clam chowder. The clam chowder was very tasty and had a good amount of clams. Only problem it was not hot but bartender sent it back and came back perfect. Steak was juicy and chard on the outside. I love it that way! Sides were mashed potatoes and green beans. Yum yum. My husband really love the sauce on the side for the steak. We will definitely be back with our neighbors to try something else on the menu. Thanks for a great experience. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Who doesn't like a seafood restaurant on near the waterfront. This is the a typical open air seafood restaurant. The place is so big with two floors. A recommendation by the the information center in town we had to check it out. As we approached we could see a steady line of people going in. They took us right in to a table. We opened sushi to start and were happy we did it was excellent. The grouper was the best we had in town all week. Only reason not to give them 4 stars. The service was not perfect. We ordered the sushi as an appetizer and it came with the grouper. I would recommend this place if it's seafood you are looking for.

Yelp
Overall good experience. Appetizers were delicious with several tasty options... we tried the Cuban egg rolls & crab ravioli... Ordered 1 1/2 lbs of crab legs and shrimp and there was plenty to eat. Plenty of seats inside. Service was OK.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was well presented but it was not flavorful. Everything was pretty bland. The building is located across the convention center so it's very convenient if you want something other than what the convention center has to offer. The drinks were not well made and the croquettes were burnt. The empanadas were under seasoned. I am not a fan of leaving not too stellar reviewed but me and my children did not enjoy the food. It's a family style place so I know many children would enjoy it, despite my children not enjoying it.
google avatar

Lolita D.

Yelp
The service was amazing, we sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and kind. I don't think the food was bad or great. I think maybe I should give them another try and order something else. I got the crab stuffed shrimp with Mango sticky rice and the rice wasn't really good. Everything else was okay. I'll probably give them another shot and try more popular items on the menu.

Chloe K.

Yelp
The Shrimp Alfredo on lunch menu says it's $19 and the bill was $27 something so I asked why and they said it's like 40% service charge. The server said that I he doesn't know why he forgot about it so I paid $32 total for 19 dollars of dish, which has already 40% of service charge plus around 15% of tip I put because I didn't want the tip amount blank. So just make sure that you're gonna pay 40% of service charge of the dish you are having. The food was good and the amount was plenty though.

Yelp
First time here. Nice casual place. Place is a little loud but that seems to be the vibe. Our server was a nice guy friendly. We started with fried calamari and conch bites. The calamari was nothing special just good regular calamari. However the conch fritters were the bomb. Full of flavor very moist inside just a great app. Main course got the Tampa Cuban salad. This thing was huge. A really nice salad. We also got fettuccine Alfredo. Again nice dish but nothing special. It's a nice casual place will prob be back
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
a friend recommended this place since they do their work conferences here sometimes. It was terrible. The only good thing about this visit was the service our server was amazing and attentive but the calamari and fried crab ravioli tasted like nothing there was no seasoning and it barely even tasted like crab. Appetizers were so lackluster we didn't even order food we just left. The catering menu must be different lol.

Yelp
Decent place to eat in downtown Tampa. Big restaurant located next to the convention center and the prices are reasonable (in today's world) and portions are good. The biggest downfall for locals is the parking situation. The website recommends the garage nearby but with many events in Tampa, you are going to pay $20 minimum to park nearby. Look for an electronic pay to park and save some money if you can. I enjoyed the grouper sandwich and from the picture, you can see the epic size of the fish, which could've made two sandwiches easily. Restaurant wasn't packed for a Friday night and it looked to have plenty of tables for walk ins. Sports on big screen TVs located through the restaurant and bar area was nice

Yelp
Unfortunately I don't have any pics but we really enjoyed the food, including a couple of mocktails. Service was great. To start we shared a spicy tuna sushi roll, which was very good. Hubbs: cup of clam chowder, and surf n turf. Clam chowder had a lot of clams and he enjoyed it. The steak was very good, and included shrimp and asparagus. All great. Me: Cuban egg rolls. I really enjoyed them. My only issue is as they sat us, they didn't ask about going upstairs and automatically walked to the stairs without an offer of an elevator. I did them reluctantly but did find the elevator to cgo back down. The patio was nice, although a little windy. I would definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for lunch or dinner, we come here ever year when in town for a trade show at the convention center

Leann N.

Yelp
The food was not good. I had the mahi fish tacos and the fish was so dry. I tried the chicken wings with buffalo sauce, flavorless. The crab bisque was grainy and also somehow flavorless. Started with the calamari after the waitress said people have mixed feelings about the crab ravioli. We should've known that the food wasn't going to be good after the appetizer, but we had already placed our entree order. I would not recommend. I did go on a Wednesday afternoon and it was not busy, which makes sense. The service was great! The waitresses are polite and friendly and competent. They are great, the food though is not worth the price at all. And the prices are not as advertised on their menu. The end total is also different depending on whether you pay cash or card.
google avatar

Moriah L.

Yelp
I honestly had low expectations of some tourist seafood joint but this place was GREAT. The food was fresh, quality, and delicious. The service was great. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're around the convention center. Value for money is definitely there.
google avatar

Chastity B.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Wasn't busy when we went so service was no to slow. We did ask for some cocktail sauce for calamari He stated they don't have that there which is odd for a seafood place. He said they never have had it there. Which we said was odd but ok. Then our oysters came with cocktail sauce. And when I asked him, I thought you didn't have it. He said oh well that's not really cocktail sauce. Yes it was. I do have to mention the oysters were extremely large. Won't recommend. Many other much better places around the area
google avatar

Janny Y.

Yelp
Nice relaxed ambiance. Our server Andrew was very attentive. Nice portion of Spanish dip with comp chip refill. Fresh raw oysters, but we were sad the meats were little, restaurant can't control that. The steak in surf & turf were super tender. Kids chicken tender were tender. The fish in my fish & chip tasted fresh, but I don't think it had old bay seasoning on the fries liked it said in menu but it's ok. My son liked his sushi, it was decent.
google avatar

Brigitte P.

Yelp
This is one of our go-to spots during conferences at the Tampa Convention Center. They actually do a pretty stellar job during the convention center rush (especially during lunch). I like their sushi options and they also have pretty good drink specials.

Yelp
Had lunch with a girlfriend here a few days ago... We work in downtown Tampa and this is a great spot to get quality food at a sit-down place with decent prices. I ordered a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and the Bistro Chicken Sandwich. The clam chowder came out hot (I can't stand when a soup doesn't come out hot!) and just the right amount of chunky with good flavors. The Bistro Chicken Sandwich was yummy...nothing spectacular, but it does the trick if you want just a basic chicken sandwich for lunch. The real star of the lunch was the fries that came with my sandwich, which were seasoned with old bay and had a great kick to them! While I did not taste what my friend ordered, she had the Tampa Keto Salad which was enormous and she said was delicious. Service was great...very attentive, but not stopping by every 5 minutes either. Overall, a great lunch experience.

Yelp
Best Seafood in Town & Service That Goes Above and Beyond! Harpoon Harry's Crab House is an absolute hidden gem for seafood lovers! We came in for a business meeting, looking for a great place to eat, and we were blown away by both the food and the incredible service. Our waitress, Nicole, was simply phenomenal--one of the best servers we've ever had! She was attentive, warm, professional, and made us feel like VIPs from start to finish. She anticipated every need before we even had to ask, kept our drinks full, made excellent recommendations, and was genuinely kind and engaging the entire time. If every restaurant had a Nicole, dining out would always be a five-star experience. And the food--WOW! We ordered the salmon, sushi, red tuna, and the shrimp platter, and every bite was perfectly prepared, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The seafood here is as good as it gets, and you can tell they use top-quality ingredients. Beyond the food and service, this place has everything you could want in a restaurant. The bar is huge and well-stocked, the seating is plentiful and spacious, and despite coming in on a weekend, we didn't have to wait at all. The ambiance is lively but comfortable, making it perfect for both business and casual dining. If you love seafood, you HAVE to come here. It's not just a great seafood restaurant--it's one of the best dining experiences you'll find anywhere. We'll be back again and again. Harpoon Harry's Crab House is a MUST!

Yelp
Bre was a great server. She kept our drinks flowing. We were alot going on at our table & she took good care of us. I enjoyed the calamari, a small Caesar salad with a very tasty piece of salmon on top Others at the table had sushi, steak & lobster tails. Had a great night

Yelp
5/5 the Cajun seafood crab boil is SOOOOOO good. You can get extra lemons and Cajun spice on the side to add as you go.

Yelp
Good sushi and friendly people Went off hours so talked to bartender and got good tips for the area Would recommend

Yelp
In town for a tournament and this restaurant is next door. Googled and saw they had sushi (yum) so decided to pop in, glad I did - the food was great ordered the Poke roll, Philly roll, Parmesan wings with fries. The drinks were tasty and had a good kick and cheap ($9) - ordered watermelon margarita, regular Rita and LI Iced tea - they even let you order drinks to go. We sat at the bar, and were handed menus as soon as we sat down - the bartenders were very friendly. Also this place is great for groups, it's huge - a lot of volleyball teams were eating here at once and there was still room

Yelp
Absolutely Delicious Seafood Risotto!!! One of the Best Meals I have Had! I also love the old timey decor. Definitely, Charming.
google avatar

Rishi P.

Yelp
Packed place before hockey games but non game night was empty. Service was great as he made sure I was good and also made genuine conversations. Chicken wings were bland but came with sauces, but rather have them covered and cooked that way to avoid the bland taste. Fish and chips were great and I'd order that next time for sure. Aura was seafood like and very spacious.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to harpoon Harry's several times, and I always enjoyed the food. However, yesterday both meals were a bust. My husband ordered ill prepared and poorly presented fish tacos and I had 3 sushi rolls (I requested a plain tuna roll and 2 plain salmon rolls, because I wanted to avoid the extra calories that spicy tuna rolls contain because I'm losing weight). The three rolls were arguably some of the worst sushi rolls I've ever eaten. The rice was undercooked and didn't taste like proper sushi rice (mirin, vinegar, salt and sugar). It tasted like regular, mushy yet undercooked rice, don't even know how that's possible, but it was. The service was lovely, as always, but the food really went downhill.

Gary S.

Yelp
Spicy tuna roll was good. Fish and chips were good. Three large pieces of fish, a hand full of fries and a small dish of coleslaw. Fries were plain and slaw was average. Service was good. Key lime margarita was good. Ambiance was average, nothing set itself apart.

Jared L.

Yelp
One of the best crab bisque and clam chowder I've ever had. Very fresh. I highly recommend it

Yelp
We were in town for a concert (Duran Duran!) at the Amalie Arena, so we were looking for a place to have dinner and drinks beforehand. We drove past Harpoon Harry's on the way to our prepaid parking garage when we got into town and we all agreed that it looked super inviting and fun. We didn't want someplace stuffy or pretentious. It was a shortish walk from the Channelside Parking Garage (although it would have been easier without sidewalk closures) and not too far at all from the Arena. There was a wait, so we visited the bar and ordered specialty drinks. I tried the Blue Lagoon -- Bacardi Coconut, Peach Schnapps, Pineapple and Orange Juices, and Blue Curacao. It was delicious and refreshing. We were called for our table after about 20 minutes and we seated upstairs by a window. It was a great table and view. I love the interior of the restaurant. It's very casual, yet very nicely done. They have a lot of tables downstairs and upstairs. Our server was fantastic, although I forget his name (and it wasn't on the receipt). He was very friendly, personable, and attentive. We ordered the calamari appetizer to share. It was so delicious. The calamari were perfectly breaded and cooked. And the tomato reduction sauce it came with was unique in its flavor and not your typical tomato sauce. I ordered the Tampa Hot sushi roll (Crispy Fried Gulf Grouper, Asparagus, Carrot, Thai Chile) and a small Caesar salad. The sushi roll was so big, though, that I really didn't need the salad when I also had the calamari app. The roll was delicious, of course. Harpoon Harry's turned out to be the perfect spot to enjoy a casual meal before the concert. I'll definitely keep it in mind when we're in town for future concerts at Amalie Arena.
google avatar

Keegan L.

Yelp
Meh. The service was SUPER slow, nice but slow. My colleague's got the fish tacos, I got the Grouper sandwich....odd taste across the board. Not a place I would trust with sushi for sure, but we did not have any of that. Don't think we'll go back.
google avatar

Alesia S.

Yelp
Grabbed dinner with some friends after finishing up a business meeting in the local area. I ordered the Alfredo with both chicken and shrimp. It was vey good. I also ordered the watermelon margarita (but not spicy). That was very refreshing. I tried a friend's fried shrimp and it was fried to perfection. The server was very attentive.

Gabrielle J.

Yelp
Oyster's disintegrated before I could even eat them. Sushi was alright.... And the bananas foster martini was separated and hard to drink. I wish we spent our money somewhere else.
google avatar

Felicia C.

Yelp
I love the sushi that is made to order. Also. The calamari is yummy. The service and atmosphere is great. On a nice day, sit outside on the second floor. Great views of downtown.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is located in the heart of north downtown Tampa. The food and service was awesome!

Lisa F.

Yelp
I arrived in Tampa for a conference and 1 of the ladies suggested we go as she had visited on a previous visit. We were standing outside the door as soon as they opened, so we were 1 of the first customers. The service was good and fast. The waiter definitely knew the menu and had suggestions. My table mates had the quesadilla, another had a burger and I had a relay good salad with beets. It was my first salad with beets on it, and it made me a believer. The salad was fresh and tasty. One of my tablemates ordered the day's drink special, and she said it was good. We were rushing to make a meeting so we didn't have dessert. Our food came out quickly, hot, and as ordered. Locates right near the conference center so I'm sure they get a lot of tourist business.
google avatar

Adela M.

Yelp
Like the reviews says, it's a touristy restaurant but we did enjoy being tourist in our own community. It's a self seat restaurant and that was hard, we waited 10 min for a table but the wait was worth it, the views are amazing and you're surrounded by water. This was our cheat night out and so we ordered bar food- fried gator bites and the fried seafood platter. To be on the healthier side we tried the crab stuffed sea bass. The food was good, not amazing but it hit the spot and was fresh. The staff was multitasking but checked in on us regularly. This place was dog friendly, a plus in my book.
google avatar

Jay P.

Yelp
Great food! Everything on the menu is good. Our server was awesome! We had a big party and he made sure to get our orders correct and to our table in a timely fashion. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
Nice place. Great service. Good food and a bartender that knows how to make a good old fashion. Yup. This is a solid eats place. Not too crazy not to dull. Good place to come and get some good food and drinks. My only real disappointment is as the broiled oysters. A little on the salty side. But my server was amazing and also the bartender. lol so it was a good night!! I would definitely dine here again.
google avatar

Ally W.

Yelp
I would think that with "Crab House" in its name, the crab would be good here. I ordered a pot of steamed snow crab and it was the worst crab I have tasted. The crabmeat did not taste fresh (1 star off), had a limp texture (1 star off), and was cooked in a pot of grease (1 star off). I had expected "steamed" to mean exactly that, steamed, but somehow it was cooked in a pot of grease. It may have been cooked with the Andouille sausage? The saltiness from the sausage coated the crabmeat and made the salty crabmeat even more salty (1 star off). Aside from the crab, the corn-on-the-cob that came with the dish was chewy and flavorless. A good corn-on-the-cob should have a nice sweet crunch to it. The potatoes were also unappetizing. I won't take any stars off for the sides as they were not the main star of the dish...but there are no more stars to take off anyway.

Jim R.

Yelp
Excellent place to get a taste of "Summer" in Winter! Went in without a whole lot of expectations, just someplace close to the convention center and the Embassy Suites. Very Close, and Very Surprised! IT WAS EXCELLENT! Unfortunately, they were slammed with conventioneers and did not know it was coming. We had a bit of a wait but, the service was great and the Manager, Bret Sams, comped our drinks for the wait. The food ABSOLUTELY made up for the wait and the staff was great! the overall mood is kitschy sailor/ ship / crabhouse but, not loud and very nice. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner the next night and, no wait- they were well prepared and staffed up. Ordered the Surf' N turf and the Seafood Orzo both excellent and well prepared. PIc's attached. Our extremely nice and friendly server was Summer! Get it? Overall, I highly recommend Harpoon Harry's and will visit again!

Emily T.

Yelp
It boasts a good menu but the food has zero flavor. Spinach and artichoke dip was stellar but the Lobster/Shrimp Risotto and the Grilled Mahi were bland. It is well presented but I'll take a sloppy presentation with flavor any day. The server was good. When I explained how bland the food was, it was acknowledged they do not use to barely use seasonings to cook with. While I realize some people like this type of cooking, I am not a fan and would not give it a second chance. It's really bad when my Spicy Watermelon Marg had more seasoning than my food. Again, server was great but the cook has a lot to learn.

Yelp
We had dinner there last night at the recommendation of the Holiday Inn here and Yarber city Tampa, and they were right on the money This is a great place right downtown Tampa, and there was actually a hockey game last night, and we sat on the outside balcony and watched the street and everybody walked by From the time we walked in from the time we walked out, retreating like we were the only Amazing, friendly Very good at the food was amazing

Yelp
This is a very large place with a down stairs full bar and seating, along with an up stairs. They have a lot of TV's all over the restaurant. Our server was very good at the start. He got our drink order and we also got the calamari to start. It was a very generous portion and came with a nice sauce. A short time later he took our dinner order and got a refill on the drinks. Some of the staff brought our food when it was ready. No sign of our server. Now we are done eating and someone different is clearing our plates, mind you we see our server tending to other tables. Just FYI, we are talking 6 tables total with customers and at least 4 different servers, one of which was ours. The reason this is still a 4 star review is the food! OMG everything was delicious. My wife got the grouper, our daughter had the firied shrimp, and I got the fish and chips. We got the sea salt caramel cheesecake and 3 forks for dessert. It was outstanding. This is a nice place and I would definitely go back. A little better service and we are talking 5 starts for sure.

Yelp
Finally made my way there after a long conference day down the street. I enjoyed the atmosphere there and ended up sitting on the balcony on the 2nd floor. The drinks were great and the food was delicious. And the bartenders were so on top. Thank you for a great evening.
