Harry's Piccolo

"Closed for renovation works until April 2024. Thanks to its hushed ambience, Harry’s Piccolo is an ideal choice for a romantic dinner or a business meal, with fine cuisine prepared by chefs Matteo Metullio and Davide De Pra. Despite their youth, these two chefs demonstrate plenty of ability and creativity, serving dishes that showcase local meat, fish and seafood, and seasonal vegetables, as well as hints of the Orient, in this elegant setting. One of their signature dishes is the Harrysotto - risotto cooked with tomato water, plankton and garnished with basil cream and capers. The wine list focuses particularly on the region, while also featuring some top-quality labels from outside Italy including a good selection of sparkling wines such as the renowned Krug champagne. Added bonuses are the friendly service, and an outdoor space for an aperitif or after-dinner drink with views of one of Italy’s most beautiful squares." - Michelin Inspector

Quiet and elegant space for our party of 4 to dine in. Promptly seated when we arrived with our reservation. The pasta we ordered was too al dente for all of us which surprised me given that this is a Michelin Guide recommended restaurant. There may have been a language barrier with the sommelier as he was a little more quiet and reserved when helping our table choose a wine. Overall felt the food and experience was average.

We chose the tasting menu and it was incredible! Everything was very well-balanced, unique, and delicious. The menu is flexible regarding guests’ dietary needs—they replaced the cheesecake for us due to lactose intolerance. The service was also very pleasant; the waitresses spoke excellent English and were very friendly. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the whole experience!

Love this place. There is enough of attentive staff who also speak other languages. Impressive! The food and drinks were amazing, just love the attention to details and the high quality. We enjoyed the cocktails (signature cocktail Trieste da bere with gin and sambuca), salad and anchovies for a starter and fish and octopus for mains. Every dish was spectacular. What I particularly enjoyed is that they have Gluten free options for bread and pasta. Highly appreciated!!! The deserts were good, I just inhaled mine - a chocolate and coffee tartlet. The sorbet was nice, but a bit on the sweet side. Would happily return to this restaurant any time!

For a top rated restaurant a catastrophe. Service is hectic, especially the female head waitress. Incredible stressed without creating a pleasant atmosphere and getting anything done. Almost every table around had to suffer major mistakes, is it drinks, food or incomplete silver wares. The food is mediocre for that category of restaurant. It’s sad, because you sit at one of the most beautiful city squares in the world. The restaurant and hotel are in need of a much much better management.

Disappointing to say the least, despite the older reviews giving praise we did not see the more recent ones that reflect current reality. The service was inexcusably bad and the food was below average with okay presentation. Service started with us arriving for our reservation for three people, then being directed to a table to 2, with the waitress then clumsily adding a placing to the table looking flustered as though she didn’t know how to set it. Menus were brought 5-10 minutes after being seated and was missing the drinks menu. Having tried to look for a waiter to ask for one, it was another 5mins before anyone entered the dining room where they came to take our food order without prompting drinks. We finally ordered both. Eventually a red wine came when we ordered white, the waiter insinuated we were wrong. When we asked him to bring back the menu and showed him the bottle we ordered he learned they had two bottles from the same vineyard on a fairly limited wine menu this wasn’t great. Bread was then served without any butter or oil despite asking it never came. Laughably when the starters were served and one of our party had a salad, they asked for vinegarette to which the staff responded by bringing a bottle of balsamic and oil in their full sized original shop bought packaging. Not what you would expect at any half decent restaurant. The rest of the service was so poor we decided to leave after our entres and get desert at local gelato spot. Atmosphere, quiet without any music and bright lighting made for a somber environment. Food, there was a lot of effort but the flavours and combinations didn’t work well. Meals were left under heat lamps too long as they had formed a skin on sauces etc. My starter fish sashimi dish still had the skin left on one edge which made it chewy, I left it after one bite as it was off putting. No staff member asked why or whether I was okay, they just took it away before the entres. Again, very inexperienced service. It’s sad to see this place must have lost its staff to have been so different to older reviews. I wouldn’t recommend going back until you see more positive recent reviews. I certainly wouldn’t recommend.

Michelin recommended??? Could have gotten better food and service at the Michelin Tire Store. One server, with three what appeared to be trainees took 20 minutes to get menus, another 30 to get our wine (which my wife’s “orange wine” had gone bad”) had to be returned, and the hardest, stale dinner rolls possible. After asking three times for our check, we were finally able to pay and get out of there. Michelin, what were you thinking recommending this place?

Huge appreciation to the chefs and team in Harry’s Piccolo. It was a completely flawless and delightful dining experience, each of the dishes from Mare Mare Mare menu was delicious and remarkable… green risotto, smoked scallop or prawn amongst the highlights! As for the service, Suzanne made this dining experience even richer, with her unique presentation of each dish : special thank you Suzanne !! We will be back for more !!!

Tasty cuisine in one of the best place of Trieste. The location is smart and elegant. The personnel is nice, but they could be more accurate on some details (I had a broken glass twice). The real negative point is the rigidity of the menù. I've been travelling all over the World for 32 years and it's the first time that, in a starred restaurant, the guests are obliged to eat the same things, if they chose the degustation menù. If one person at your table doesn't like a dish and wants it to be changed...it will be changed for all the guests of the table! This is just not a good practice. The cuisine needs to be at the customers' service, not the opposite. The cuisine is really tasty, sometimes so much that we don't taste the ingredients properly. We would have loved more finess in some dishes to have a lighter menù. Pasta and desserts are really superb.
