Harvest Moon

First, I need to say that I have been to this establishment several times. I honestly kept forgetting to review, so here are photos from 3 different visits. The 1st 3 photos were from a visit in July 2024. The next 2 were my second visit in the early spring 2025, and finally, the last 3 photos were this past Sunday, July 2025. Each time, I have chosen to sit outside since I adore the sunny weather. This is definitely The Brunch spot for my mother and I. The wait staff has been so polite and welcoming. The food is beyond phenomenal. I definitely recommend to anyone who is Local to Modesto and visiting out of towners to come and try. You'll most likely see us there! 😆

The food was good, had the biscuits and gravy, very generous portions. My husband ordered the gorilla cheese sandwich he said it was really good. The restaurant is small and was crowded when we arrived. They sat us in a hallway, which was weird. But overall it was good.

I had been waiting to eat here for a while. I work downtown but I don’t eat lunch and I’ve heard everyone talk about the food, but I was most interested in the crab sandwich. I finally had a lunch meeting so I suggested this place so I could try it. The service was great, the place was packed for lunch and everyone was still very attentive and nice. They checked on the three of us several times. The crab sandwich was great, there’s a very healthy portion of crab and it’s real crab not imitation crab. You pay based on the price of crab and mine was about $40. I had a salad instead of fries which was really good. The menu is diverse so there’s something for everybody. They close at 4 pm during the week so make sure you get there to try it out.

Amazing flavors...fish tacos were incredible with pineapple salsa...can't remember the name, they weren't on menú. Bartender told us about them. She was a fantastic bartender too. Blueberry Lemonade was the best. Tritip sandwich and fries were great too. Their French fries are fabulous! Very nice outdoor seating or sit inside where it's nice and cool to beat the warm temps outside. This place actually has a parking lot, which alot of places downtown, don't. I would highly suggest this restaurant.

“Filthy, Fabulous, and Shaken Just Right” Alyssa made me the kind of dirty gin martini that doesn’t just hit…it struts. Shaken hard, served up cold, olives floating like royalty, and a twist with attitude. If this martini were a person, it’d have a mysterious past and perfect timing. Get one. Thank me later.

Didn’t realize the price until after I paid but it’s was the best $42 sandwich I’ve ever had. Worth the money. Didn’t expect to find this gem in Modesto!

Always a great experience at HM. My personal favorite is the crab sandwich. It’s a large portion so we usually share and add a delicious salad to split.

Super cute hidden gem! The seating was a bit awkward but the service was suburb. My only complaint is that I requested no pork on my salad due to religious dietary restrictions and there was still bacon. Overall a 5 star experience though :)

This is a nice place to eat downtown. I haven't been here in years. I really wanted to try some menu items I found out was on the weekend only, need to come back then. The sampler plate was decent. The shrimp was good, the chicken skewers were good and the sweet potato fries were surprisingly very good I usually dont like sweet potato fries. The waitress was nice enough to explain which of each three sauces was and for what to dip in them. I truly appreciated that, I always wonder which sauce is for which. We ordered the French Dip to share and the Deluxe Crab sandwich to share and once again they was so nice to put them on separate plates already which was very convenient. Our waitress Honesty ( yes that's her name haha) was so good and paid attention to every detail. I was very impressed with her skills I had to mention her by name. She kept checking on us if we needed anything and just did a perfect job to be honest ( no pun intended, her name Honesty, get it haha). The French dip sandwich was in my opinion just ok, not bad but not anything to write home about. The garlic fries were good and the fruit was a good healthy option. The Deluxe Crab sandwich was stacked high with crab meat thus the $42 price ( which I didn't know the market price before I ordered, I wish I did, I wouldn't have spent $42 on one sandwich ). The Deluxe Crab sandwich normally comes with bacon I had it removed because I dont eat pork. The Deluxe Crab sandwich was just ok. I wouldn't order it again especially for its extremely high price but not even if it was half the price. It just wasn't that tasty to me or my son's friend who shared the other half. My son did like his outback omelet I tasted it and thought it was good as well. The outback omelet also came with catchup dip for potatoes and apricot jam for English muffins im guessing, but it was a nice extra. Pro tip: the parking lot right next to the building durning the week is not to be used for Harvest Moon customers unless you park in handicapped spot with proper handicap parking permits. I believe you can park there on the weekend. Also ask what current market price is before you order the Deluxe Crab sandwich and make sure you feel comfortable to pay that price.

Came in for lunch, left feeling recharged. The Cajun shrimp were cooked perfectly -- big, juicy, with that ideal spicy sear. Bold, flavorful, and balanced by a cool slaw and dipping sauce. Just enough fire to wake you up without overwhelming. But the tomato bisque? Next level. Rich, smooth, and full of soul. It's the kind of soup that makes you pause mid-spoon just to appreciate what's happening. Deep flavor, real care -- absolutely phenomenal. Add a cold beer, warm woodgrain atmosphere, and pro-level service from Pete, who was attentive without hovering -- the man's a pro -- and you've got the recipe for a place I'll absolutely return to. Harvest Moon delivers: fire, flavor, and soul in every bite. Highly recommend.

Cozy and quaint established Modesto restaurant, special fish and chips on Fridays ---get there early. Great salads, crab Louis, crab sandwiches, and lots of burgers and fries with great service.

Came here the other day with my boss. We ordered a salad and Cajun pasta. The salad was huge!!!! We had to use two containers to take it home. The Cajun pasta was yummy but a little much for me. I personally don't like the long strings of onion but it didn't ruin the dish, just a personal opinion. The restaurant was cute and the staff were all so friendly. I will say, lunch time is busy so be prepared to wait a little but not terribly long.

Came here on our way to Yosemite. We had the crab salad which was so huge and had so much crab. OMG the salad is well dressed and had croutons, bacon, and a ton of crab including claw meat. I ordered the fish and chips which also was huge. I could only at one of the large pieces. It was a bit oily for me. The garlic fries was totally killer. I also couldn't eat it all. If we swing by again we're only going to order the salad. Service was excellent.

This place was okay even though I really wanted to like it more. We always pass by this restaurant whenever going downtown and the art outside has always caught my eye, so we finally had a chance to have brunch here over the weekend. I also don't know if we just entered the wrong side of the restaurant, but as we entered, there was this table smack dab in the center of the room with a giant box and many pieces of packing material, so that was a strange welcome to a dining establishment. Service was great - fast and friendly. The food was only okay. I ordered a cajun pasta and cajun dishes are known for being able to burst with flavor, but right as the dish was handed to me, I could immediately tell that the sauce was watered down and tasting it confirmed so. The bread that came with the dish was good though. My husband also thought his sandwich was okay. However, I did really like the side salad I ordered (the house salad I believe) and their fries were quite yummy. In any case, my husband and I were glad to finally try this place but I don't think we will come back any time soon unless the flavors improve (maybe we will come back for the sides though lol)

Came to Harvest Moon for a work lunch and I plan to suggest Harvest Moon for future work lunches. I got the Argentinian with a fruit salad and the sandwich was great but honestly the star of the show was the fruit salad. I don't think I've ever gotten a side fruit salad that has been impressive, but this was a large side with top tier fruits. Normally a fruit salad is pretty bland, cheap, unripe fruits - not at Harvest Moon. The mango and pineapple were perfect with a great selection of berries. My coworker got the Cajun pasta and thought it had a great kick. The portions were hearty and we took half our meal to go. The staff is super friendly and super on top of it - my drink refills were always on the table before I even thought about needing one. The place is pretty cramped but in a cozy, local way. I look forward to coming back and trying some other dishes.

The Food is excellent, the presentation and the atmosphere was inviting and very enjoyable. The Staff so friendly and customer service oriented. The amount of food for the money is well worth it. Looking forward to coming again!

Came to eat here after a 2 hr ride. OMG the food was excellent and tasty. I had The gorilla cheese sandwich, it was the best. I never ordered sandwiches when I go eat but this one sounded good......it was a good choice. Our server was super friendly. Thank you for the good service and delicious food.

I love this place! Been going here for years and have enjoyed every plate. The burgers are juicy and cooked just right. I had the Frenchie and my brother had the crab Louie but in a sandwich with bacon! Both were sooooo good. Our waitress was pretty amazing as well. We ordered some garlic fries before our entrees and she brought everything out as they were ordered making all our food super fresh as we were eating. She was so sweet and it made our lunch experience just that much better. I love the decor in this place and the setup. Makes me feel like I'm in Berkeley at a little brunch place. Super clean and welcoming!

The food was absolutely amazing! The fruit was fresh. The fish was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. The best part was the service, though. The employees were an absolute delight to spend brunch with and we will be back soon. Hopefully we will be able to sit at the adorable outdoor area again because it was so relaxing.

I rave about EVERY visit here. The food is ALWAYS delicious ! Huge portion sizes, I've never finished a plate in one sitting and even when sharing a plate with someone else I can never finish. While the food is A1, the real stars are the staff. The service is AMAZING every time. Staff are friendly, personable, and the vibe is just always IT for me.

Fresh and delicious breakfast! Fresh fruit is FRESH and Ripe Delightful service-friendly, attentive and efficient. Small, cozy and local vibe. Found it just by accident passing through town and so glad we did!

Came to this place with the family after my daughter's volleyball game on a Sunday around 12ish. We were able to get a table right away only it took a little bit for someone to come take our order. The waitress that notice we hadn't been helped was very nice and took our orders right away. We were able to sit outside since it was a nice day, so I didn't really get a good look at the inside. Our food came out surprisingly fast. Honestly everything we ordered was nice and fresh and tasted great. Me and my daughter shared the burger and French dip, both had nice juicy meat and great flavor. I wish the French dip had some type of creamy sauce on the actual sandwich. My wife also said the same for the tacos that the flavor was good but it was missing some type of creamy sauce on top. I will say their side of pasta salad was amazing, loved it! And their crab cakes were very delicious especially with the sauce it came with on the side. Would recommend for a nice lunch or brunch place for anyone in the downtown Modesto area.

Modesto is a pretty small town, but has some great places to eat and stay. There is really nothing not to like here, the heat sucks, but the people are friendly, and the town is cute. One of our favorite places to eat when we are in town is Harvest Moon. The place is small and very cute. It is super clean and the service is always nice and friendly. It can get a little crowded but the wait is not long and they will let you know if it is. The bathrooms are clean. Parking is easy and free. The menu is great. If you like crab, you must try their crab salad and their crab sandwiches. They are great. You get a good amount of crab and it is just delicious. The crab salad has romaine lettuce which I love. The crab sandwich comes with fries. They put mayo on it so if you don't want that, just tell them. Their burgers are also great. They have a few different kinds and all are super. Everything on their breakfast menu (served to about 11 am I think) is just the best. We so love the service. We love it all. Have a great time.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! It's always a treat coming here! The food is delicious and you get a good amount for what you pay for. I also really enjoy the cocktails. Never had a bad experience here!

This place never disappoints! Food and service is always on point. Big servings, food always tastes FRESH. If I wasn't on a budget, I'd eat there everyday if I could!

The BEST Crab sandwich I've ever had, no joke.. Good location, comfortable atmosphere, relaxing and adorable decor. A small place but well put together. Our new favorite.

The Niel's Toss Salad is still the best ever. There are many other great choices. The service is always top notch. I recommend this place.

This is definitely a well established brunch restaurant. Full brunch menu from Crab eggs Benedict, Crab salad, delicious burger and this shrimp salad. This is a must try restaurant once your try if definitely be going back. Sherry is awesome friendly bartender, Autumn the server keeps the place running smoothly and always has a smile.

Stopped in for a bite to eat and a drink after doing a few things in down town Modesto. I Had to get the Dinah burger, this since it is shares the same name as my pup! It was really very tasty. The sweet potato fries were perfect and the sauce that was served with it was a nice touch. The moon juice cocktail was just right for a Monday afternoon . The service was great. They all seemed like a family! They had great music on. I definitely would go back.

Brunch/Lunch always Amazing!! Service friendly and warm, food delicious!! The Bloody Mary is a meal of its own. This business cares about the community with their "pay it forward" meal program.

Food is good but the service/ staff is terrible. Have tried giving them a chance but it always sucks. Update: Jessie, you are a prime example of the lack of professionalism and accountability you as a business owner and your staff exhibit. You could've responded in a different way by inviting further conversation or asking for feedback as to how my experience was, but here you are like a child responding to a Facebook post. Take some time to self reflect and better yourself and your business. Best of luck to you. Jessie- I see you changed your response. Yet you still are very passive aggressive and still lack accountability. How do you know I didn't address it with staff? You never asked? Just assumed; AGAIN. Good luck to your small business. My daughter and I had a really good early dinner here at Harvest Moon. The portions are big and their staff is friendly. It's a small space inside, but it has a home feel to it, maybe because it once could have been or because it has a very welcoming vibe. The music they were playing was great from Aretha Franklin to Whitney Houston and others, not at all loud, but pleasantly heard. We forgot our left overs and the waitress who took our order ran out and gave us our left over container. She didn't have to do that as most restaurants do not, but she did and that was really nice of her to do. I will definitely be back I loved our food and everything about this restaurant!

Very cute neighborhood gem. Has a bar in the back of the restaurant, somewhat small but holds quite a bit of diners. We had the monkey bread French toast (can't remember the name exactly as it was the special) it had walnuts and a mixture of breads made into a loaf and then sliced. Service is great, all of the waitresses are kind and welcoming. Great location in the heart of downtown Modesto. Will visit again!

Over the Moon for Quality? Harvest moon is the place with top quality ingredients. Stopped in for brunch and ordered the Gorilla Cheese with an added hamburger paddy. Introducing the newest addition to the Harvest Moon, named by me " The Gorilla Burger. The owner was training a waitress's and agreed . We enjoy the chatty atmosphere and light hearted joking of all the staff.

Tasty! Generous portions. Friendly service. Best fish and chips hands down. And Neil's Toss salad is excellent!

First time visiting this place! Would highly recommend! Service is great! Food is EXCELLENT! It is smaller that I anticipated but the place was nicely decorated with artwork and nicely arranged tables squeezed into each area and could be noisy with all the conversations going one, but don't let that distract you from coming here! Well worth the visit for the quality of the food!

I always order the grilled chicken Neil's Toss. I ordered for the first time a To Go Order and was so dissapointed. The salad was $26 and was half the serving as when you order in the restaurant ( the produce, not the meat). I look forward to my leftovers when I order in and get to take home the rest. I can't remember for sure, but I thought you usually get sourdough bread to go with it, and I didn't get that in my order either. I even tipped ( not the whole 20% bc I picked it up). All in all, it was still delicious and it won't keep me away, I just won't ever order that to go again.

The food is delicious. Service is fine. But too noisy!. I wish all the restaurants would put up acoustic tiles on the ceiling or take other noise abatement steps so we can hear our companions speak. Please!

Ate lunch with my daughter. Chose to sit outdoors, in the shade. Music playing in the background, speaker just to our right a bit loud. Still able to converse and understand each other. Once we had ordered our food, it arrived within minutes. For me it went downhill. I ordered the Moon Chicken. The meat was cold, like it had been pulled out of the fridge from yesterday. Not tender or freshly cooked. The roll it was on crumbled a bit as I bit into it, also probably a day old or older. The sauce with jalapeño's was not spicy. I could go on.... Overall very disappointed with the food and service. This will be the last time we eat here. (As for service, no request for refills on our water or iced tea.)

We visited this little restaurant in the middle of downtown as we came to Modesto for a church event. Our sweet server Honesty was great, she was spot on in her suggestions and she was awesome with our larger group that included several small children. I got the gorilla sandwich. It's a Brie cheese grilled with ham and apricot jam. Was Delicious and worth the few minutes we drove to get there.

Love the food here and be careful if you order the moon juice its delicious but just one drink made me super tipsy! Highly recommend trying the peanut butter Thai chicken skewers or the avacado tacos for an appetizer to share.

This place is awesome! Firstly - best sweet potato fries ANYWHERE! Always served piping hot! Their breakfasts are amazing & the salads are huge, fresh & delicious! Oh and the sandwiches can't be beat. Hubby loves the french dip & he is the pickiest man on earth. Only problem is that I live far away! If you're in downtown Modesto from 11-3 go to Harvest Moon. You won't be sorry!

Excellent food and friendly quick service. The crab dip was exceptional and the Dinahmo burger was huge. Our party of 4 was seated outside, staff offered and opened up their awning when they noticed the sun was hitting our table. Great job Harvest Moon. Will definitely be back!

Service for pick up was terrible. I asked for extra ranch and the lady acted like it was coming out of her pocket. She had a lot of attitude and said she gave me more than she should have, that it was already in the bag. Once I opened the bag, there was only one side of ranch for a large order. I would have been happy to pay for extra condiments. I was not given that option. There is no reason for the attitude.

I recently had lunch at Harvest Moon . Although the food was good - the service was bad! There was no one greeting us at the counter - we stood there & other people stood in line behind us -all waiting for someone to take our names , or seat us at the empty tables . Meanwhile, several restaurant staff walked by it was all so unorganized . Then, we get seated at a table , but there we sat for quite awhile because the wait staff does not pay attention , none of the staff seemed to know what tables they are responsible for when it comes to service : ordering beverages- ordering our food - follow up to see if we need beverage refills etc. It took so long to get our beverages & lunch because no one was doing their job . I will spend my money at another restaurant where both the food & service are good!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. First off, I walk in and the hostess was busy chatting with coworkers. She did make eye contact with our group at one point but continued with her conversation. After 8 minutes (yes, i counted) She made her way over to us. No smile, no welcome, just walked us to our table. Our table looked like it had barely been cleaned as there were still crumbs everywhere so our group wiped the table off with our own antibacterial wipes that we had. Our server was nice but when our food came, some old residue of food prior to us, like ketchup was on the plate. My glass also had lipstick on it. When i told our server, they responded "oh yeah... our dish washer doesn't always pick everything up." They did not offer a replacement meal, or at the least a clean plate. If you want to be treated like a human being and feel safe about eating food, steer clear from this place!

First time trying this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. Overall relaxed vibe and the food was good. We went during lunch on a Friday afternoon and it was a bit busy but we were sat right away. I ordered the Cajun Pasta and was very impressed with the flavors! It is a huge portion so I was able to take half home with me for lunch the next day. The pasta comes with a salad as well. The house dressing is amazing! Only thing is I wish I had known there was Feta on the salad... I would have asked for that to be removed. Overall the food was great and service was as well. Nice place and good food!

Three of us went there at 1:30 pm this Sunday. We were visiting from the East Bay and were hungry and needed AC. Even though it seemed busy, we were seated in minutes. We noticed a family celebrating with their little girls seated next to us. They seemed to have been there before. I ordered grilled prawns as an appetizer to share. We all agreed they were pretty good with a mild spicy flavor. My crab sandwich came in two halves that were so thick. It was good, fresh and flavorful. The fries had this distinctive batter that made them extra tasty as everyone agreed. Our waitress was Honesty (I think) and she checked on us regularly and made sure our drinks were refilled. There was a small bar that look like it could be fun during happy hour. The cocktails on the menu looked good but we didn't try any. Definitely a very good fine.

Ok first of all I was in this area of Modesto for work and I see the reviews on this place so I had to try it before the week was up so I did. One of my union stewards and I came here for lunch during negotiations for his company contract . The food was really good. I had the crab sandwich with corn chowder soup!! Omg !!my steward had the tri tip sandwich and really liked it also!! The lady that served us was really great made me a peach tea that was tastie ! The ambiance was good and the place was packed. I will put up a couple of pics. If you are in this area come check it out. Only thing is it wasn't cheap but the food was excellent!!! So I will be back to try something else to try to give them that 5th star !!

8/23/24 - Autumn was our waitress and once again, we were happy!!! Great experience. Autumn is a wonderful friendly waitress. Eggs benedict, fish n chips, iced teas, triple chocolate mousse cake, coffee - all amazing!! Thank you !!! :)

I came here for lunch today and had the Moon Chicken Sandwich and the flavors are amazing! I also had a Cali Squeeze Beer that has a blood orange flavor. I love it. Autumn waited on me today. She's always nice and kept my drinks full. Everyone here is super friendly at the Harvest Moon Restaurant
