"Coming all the way to the north side of the island and skipping Harvey Cedars Shellfish is like going all the way to Paris and not even taking a peep at the Eiffel Tower. The cozy clapboard BYOB is an institution, and has been slinging some of the island’s best clams, crab claws, and simply steamed lobsters since 1974. But don’t snooze on their more elaborate dishes—come with a group and share the spicy calamari veracruz and creamy crab and artichoke dip. There’s usually a wait, but you can always pop your bottles early and get a little too competitive at the Hook & Ring game in the parking lot. Our absolute FAVORITE place for dinner on the island! We had been going here for many years, while vacationing on the island (we would vacation for a week and be here 4-5 night...it is THAT good!) Now that we have moved closer, we are thrilled to know we can go anytime that they are open! Harvey Cedars Shellfish has a great atmosphere where the team becomes friends, and the food cannot be matched! And when you DO go, get the clams casino...You can thank me later!

Google
First time visiting this Little Gem and all I can say is WOW-WOW! All of our Seafood dishes were amazing and fresh including the Steamed Lobster, Calamari Veracruz and the Baked Crab Cakes. That calamari dish was the best I ever had. Even the Corn on the Cob and the Garlic Bread were simply delish! The Service and Atmosphere were also top notch. Thank You Scott (our waiter) for a very enjoyable evening! Happy to see you take Credit Cards now. We Will Be Back!

Google
Absolutely unbelievable. I got the calamari Vera Cruz over linguine and it was seriously one of the best meals I’ve had on LBI. Our server Maggie was also awesome!

Google
Fabulous seafood in a nice outdoor seating area. Able to sub sides "no problem" which was appreciated. The roasted veggies instead of fries were delicious. Service was really good which made the experience even better. Everyone was so friendly. Prices very fair for what you get. BYOB a plus. No pictures because we dove in so quick when it arrived.

Google
Honestly I thought this place was just ok. Steamed clams were a bit sandy. The clams in marinara with linguini was good and the tuna was nothing special The spot is BYOB with some outdoor seating and weirdly no dessert menu

Google
I know everyone loves this place, but for me it was just an average seafood restaurant. There was nothing that made it any better than any other raw clam bar. I had 2 dozen of the raw top neck clams and they were excellent. For dinner I had the softshell crabs and my wife had the grilled salmon, both were just ok. It is a very small place with small tables and the air conditioning was not that cold. All in all I wouldn't go back, but that's just my opinion, try it for yourself....

Google
Doing it right for 50 years! Best local seafood on LBI, awesome family, great family-run business. If you're lucky, you're having a Harvey Cedars Shellfish kind of day - authentic place, great food & 5* hospitality!

Google
Appetizers were better than the dinner. Two in my group had the Tuna and barely touched it. They also charged us $72 for a dozen Oysters. Felt like I was being robbed at gun point.

Yelp
We had a great meal and service was excellent. We did go and have an early dinner so there wasn't any lines. What's not to say. Price is reasonable and also a great market

Yelp
Harvey Cedars Shellfish is THE place to go to for your seafood dinners on Long Beach Island. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a fish market for your convenience if you want to be the chef of your seafood. The outdoor seating is perfect for a relaxing, easy breezy dinner vibe, and it's BYOB. They even chill your drinks for you in a barrel of ice which is super kind! They start out with complimentary bread, which I unfortunately cannot eat. Since we were all craving oysters, we ordered a half-dozen oysters which were sourced from the Delaware Bay that day. They were salty and a little briny with a sweet aftertaste, served with lemon and cocktail sauce - yum! They also were HUGE and meaty for oysters which was a pleasant surprise. The main entrees were pretty good as the seafood was impeccably fresh and cooked to perfection. I got the tuna fresco (fresh barnegat light yellowfin topped with sundried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic & fresh basil). I'm not sure if the briny, sour flavors matched up to what I was expecting based on the description. I also wasn't a fan of my rice being undercooked. The fresh Jersey corn as a side was a highlight! My friend got the chicken parm which was super filling. It's nice to know that they can cater to non-seafood eaters with chicken platters! My other friend got the special of the day which was a seared local monkfish (served over a rustic medley of crushed tomato, baby potatoes, escarole, and cannellini beans served with grilled pesto toast). Even though her potatoes were undercooked, the fish was super tasty and I loved the sauce that surrounded it. The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance was light, airy, and laid back. They even have a fun ring string game outside if you're waiting a while. That kept us entertained for a while after dinner, and we had an audience rooting for us! Harvey Cedars Shellfish offers a great seafood dining experience on LBI. It's worth a visit if you're in the area, especially for a special occasion. Note that the prices are on the higher end, but that is to be expected since you're eating fresh seafood on the island.

Yelp
I'm a super loyal to ship bottom shellfish. My husband is not super versed in LBI so I want him to try all the local gems and this one fit our palette, classic seafood with a few twists. It's a small homey place, casual with friendly and welcoming staff. We love that it's a BYOB. We tried the swordfish dip special (outstanding I never had anything like it before), oysters, scallops (a full pound with sides for $36) and my husband had the lobster dinner at a shockingly low $35. We loved it all. I would definitely return and if you go early enough there is no waiting!

Erika T.

Yelp
Got here before 6pm for dinner and there was a littler wait for indoor dining but no wait for the outdoor seating, so opted for outdoors. Service was friendly and attentive, seafood was incredibly fresh. I got the steamed lobster platter and it was perfect. There's a parking lot across the street and that was handy, though it fills up fast.

Yelp
We went to Harvey Cedars Shellfish for the 2nd time yesterday and it was great! We decided to split a few appetizer dishes as our meal. We had the calamari Veracruz, mussels Americana, and firecracker shrimp. We absolutely loved the firecracker shrimp and calamari! The calamari had this very unique breading that packed lots of flavor and was topped with fresh jersey tomatoes! The firecracker shrimp had the perfect amount of spice and was so crispy! The mussels unfortunately were not the best quality and had an odd taste. Also about half of our mussels were closed/dead, so we couldn't eat them. Overall, we really enjoy it here because the prices are very reasonable and the food is great! Our waitress, Kristen, was also extremely friendly! We will be back soon!

Kathy G.

Yelp
What an awesome place for dinner! We have loves Harvey Cedars Shellfish for years, and the food never disappoints! There is such a welcoming vibe there that you will feel like you are eating with friends! Whether you eat indoors or outside or get food to go, there is care in preparation and how everything looks.... and when you order the clams casino, you can thank me later!

Beth C.

Yelp
Such a great place. We go whenever we visit the Shore. Everything is right. Even the takeout. Generous portions. The linguine with clam sauce and fresh catch of the day are our favorites.

Tina H.

Yelp
We own a home on LBI, but hadn't been to this restaurant in a while. This past weekend we ventured over from the south end of the island and were so glad we did! The food was all amazingly fresh and everything was awesome. We had clams, mussels, calamari veracruz and tuna. We sat inside which was comfortable with the a/c on high, but the outside tables are lovely, especially the ones alongside the building. This is my favorite type of restaurant on LBI - not pretentious - just good seafood cooked in interesting ways with friendly servers making for a great overall experience.

George S.

Yelp
The he soft shell crabs sautéed were delicious. The corn needed no butter or seasoning. The salmon dinner got a thumbs up and was plentiful. The fries were tasty and lots of them. The lobster dinner did not disappoint and the rice was very good. The stuffed shrimp was like by two of us with plenty for lunch the next day. The wai

Yelp
Had a HUGE and delicious Caesar salad with shrimp and scallops. Our server Kristen was lovely! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Heidi O.

Yelp
Excellent seafood. Loved my swordfish, the shrimp was also very good. Tuna dish was also good, but different. Great bread, house salad is large. My only complaint is that the corn was a little old. :( decent service, but our server may have had too many tables.

Ron T.

Yelp
We came last year and repeated again this year. Everything was great - outdoor dining, service and the food. They sell wine and beer but are also BYOB without a corkage charge.

James S.

Yelp
My lady friend and I ordered take out from here and the food was pretty good . Portions were decent, and food was solid . She ordered a Fraser salad with scallops and shrimp which was pretty good, reasonable amount of shrimp but not many scallops. Very tasty I might add. I ordered buffalo tuna bites and they were very good, cooked perfect and sauce was good. My only complaint, because that's what we're here for, was the Manhattan chowder soup which I found watery ?!?! . And 10$ for an order of French fries with old bay seasoning is a little much. But I get it that everyone's trying to make a buck! I would def sit and eat there for sure, give them a try !

Terri C.

Yelp
We were looking for an early dinner before boarding a sunset cruise in LBI. Found this place and it was perfect as they offered an early bird special between the time they open (4:30pm) to 5:30pm. The early bird special gives you 15% off your entire bill. We had a lovely dinner in this great BYOB seafood restaurant. Ambience has a beachy vibe without feeling too casual. The tables are spacious and we had ample room. Later, I found out the portions are large, especially the pastas so it's a good thing the tables are big! I ordered the broiled seafood combination ($30) and it was pretty good. It came with flounder (good texture but needed some seasoning), a crab cake (no fillers, decent size, lots of crab meat), some shrimp, a few sea scallops (really good, slightly sweet but only 2 pieces), corn on the cob (so sweet!) and rice. Other things we ordered were: Firecracker shrimp- flash fried shrimp sautéed with a sweet Asian chile sauce. This was good, slightly sweet with a hint of spiciness. Shrimp stuffed with crab meat (~$25) 3 decent sized pieces which looked like crab cake on top of shrimp, comes with corn on the cob and rice Chicken parm with pasta (~$25) - really large portion; large enough for 2-3 people! Comes with garlic bread. Kids pasta ($9) - standard pasta but portion could feed an adult! Comes with garlic bread. Service was wonderful. Our waiter kept checking on us and was thoughtful to offer to refill drinks and bread without prompting. He asked several times how everything was. My only complaint is that towards the end, we felt a little rushed to leave. There were people waiting outside when we were almost done so they needed our table. Overall, the food, service and ambience were all great. We'll be back.

Bernie T.

Yelp
We've been going here many years and have never - ever - been disappointed! Flat out, just a solid experience eating here. We have never picked up any meals to bring home, but they do a lot of take out as well. There is a reason why there is a wait to be seated.... Many people know the wait is worth it. !!!

Lindsey W.

Yelp
Recently ordered to-go from here: five lobster platters and one snow crab. They had our food prepared on time and ordering by phone was a breeze. The food is fresh and delicious. Definitely not the best seafood I've ever had but very good. Prices were on the expensive side but not crazy. Good value for the money.

Michael C.

Yelp
Great Meal! Food was fantastic. Service was outstanding. Prices were fair and reasonable. Order the Clams and Mussels over Garlic Bread for an app. All the entrees in our group were great. Will definitely go back.

Emily M.

Yelp
Love this place! Definitely get the calamari Veracruz it is really good. The scallops are another favorite of mine. Although, I think in general they do a better job with shellfish than regular fish. If you're having trouble deciding just get the broiled seafood combo that way you get a sampling of everything.

James F.

Yelp
Quick service, friendly staff, excellent food quality, beach atmosphere. Staff is well trained

Aaron W.

Yelp
Small, cozy spot with tasty seafood, surprising pizza, great drink selection, and friendly service. Would go back for sure.

Yelp
Forgot to take pictures however this place is always great . Had clams and linguini my favourite dish it's always good . Wife had the stuffed crab shrimp outstanding you can find better . Good service as well nice meal . Just get there before 6:30 lines get long .

Allie S.

Yelp
Couldn't get a seat at my usual, Ship Bottom Shellfish, and BOY! What a blessing in disguise. Ordered 1 lb. Steamed lobster with corn and mussels for $33! Delicious, fresh and with drawn butter. The lobsters were so meaty too! The fries were hot and crispy and a perfect accompaniment. Cash or check only! Oysters were a great app too.

Michael S.

Yelp
So, now we've done one takeout and one visit. Both were terrific. This was last year. This year the bluefin tuna! Worth the 30 minute wait.

Edward K.

Yelp
Just wrapped up a fun family vacation with a delicious dinner at Harvey Cedars Shellfish. We went at a popular time and had a party of six, so we had to wait. It ended up being well worth the wait. I was starving after a day at the beach. We ordered a pound of fried clams, cold seafood sampler appetizer, and the scallop melt. All were high quality. Went for the broiled seafood platter for my entree. Great portion of high quality seafood featuring shrimp, scallops, filet, and a crab cake. The crab cake was awesome and the rest of the dish was cooked to perfection. The corn on the cob was in season and the rice pilaf had a delicious nuttiness. The rest of the family loved their food as well. Highly recommend!

Denise S.

Yelp
This was our first time in there and the food was absolutely delicious, I had the scallops with rice and corn on the cob everything was fresh, our waitress was fantastic, will definitely be back

J M.

Yelp
This place is great. Get a table in the side alley and get the calamari specialty!! It's huge and can be your entree. The other food was good too & good value but do yourself a favor.... Calamari

Spenser H.

Yelp
We did appetizers and loved all of them. The calamari was amazing. Oysters were outstanding. We also had peel and eat shrimp and the clams/mussels with garlic bread.

Eugene M.

Yelp
The best on the island. Now that Mikes kids have taken over the business, the quality and service have not wavered. The staff is excellent and the food is to die for. You've got to try the fries covered with clam chowder!

Val L.

Yelp
Delicious seafood! Plain and simple when you have the freshest ingredients you can't go wrong!!

Will M.

Yelp
Awesome food with BYOB. Inside and outside seating. Check it out. We were just talking about going there again!

Timothy N.

Yelp
Had a great night at my local favorite to kick off the summer. Service was spot on like always. Tough tough day to be a lobster when the boys walk into the restaurant. Even had to stop our friend Kevin from eating the shell it was so good . Highly recommended the calamari Veracruz. We will be back

John B.

Yelp
We ordered the scallop appetizers Scallops were overdone--dry and tough Canned mushrooms--for $17??? Try somewhere else...we will

Chris W.

Yelp
Just got takeout. Everything was fantastic. I know I said it was takeout, but the service was phenomenal. The staff seemed happy and motivated. I got the scallops. First of all, they were perfectly cooked. Second there had to be at least 10 good sized scallops in the platter. My wife got the swordfish and my daughter got the tuna blue. Both were delicious. By the way I got the traditional calamari which was excellent. I never believed seafood was good for takeout. Everything was hot and extremely tasty. Harvey Cedars Shellfish Co. did an incredible job this evening. Thank you immensely for the extra effort. This is why we have been coming back for 35+ years. We will continue to recommend Harvey Cedars Shellfish!!

Keith D.

Yelp
Fresh fish, great sides, and portions large enough for lunch the next day. Mussels were as good as always and the broiled platter was a treat. Great service. Remember they're "Cash Only"!

Siobhan R.

Yelp
We've been here several times over the years, but this time was underwhelming. While the service was terrific, the food was just okay. I ordered broiled scallops, which, according to the menu, was prepared with lemon & butter. The description failed to mention that the scallops were completely covered in Old Bay seasoning, which scallops do NOT need and which, in my opinion, ruined this very pricey dish. I couldn't eat them. Please update your menu with the correct description. And while you're at it, start accepting credit cards or Venmo. It's 2022, who carries that much cash around anymore?

Hannah G.

Yelp
Food was delicious and atmosphere was very relaxed. Super happy with the covid precautions and service. The portions are great for the price. Also, Celia was the best server, super attentive and sweet.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Fresh shellfish and great family run business. We got takeout but they converted the parking lot to outside dining. Well done

Lauri P.

Yelp
So we can never get into this place because it's so busy all the time which is obviously telling about the quality of the food. We decided to chance it on a chilly Monday night this past week. It wasn't crowded at all but we were there kind of early. The woman that seated us was lovely and very helpful, she is a schoolteacher during the year so we had a nice conversation with her she was very welcoming. She seated us by window, in the corner which was private but with a nice view. Our servers name was Mike and he was awesome. So with the customer service being so great right off the bat, we were already feeling excited about our choice for dinner. I got the salmon grilled with pesto on it and it was fantastic. There are many great seafood choices grilled or fried. The old Bay fries here are fantastic. It's a bit pricey For a casual joint but it's comparable to other places on the island. This place is BYOB and they take cash only so hit up the ATM on your way here. We really enjoyed ourselves and I highly recommend you giving this place a try!!

Ashleigh S.

Yelp
Yes. Yes. Yes. Understated, simple, delicious fresh seafood. Good value for the price, and they have no pretensions. Simple, picnic table seafood that tastes like it was caught an hour ago. We were lucky to go there when they were open, but check first - limited hours of operation.

Jacqui P.

Yelp
The food was tasty. We got fried shrimp, Buffalo tuna, calamari, and NE chowder. All was good with big portion size.

Asaad S.

Yelp
My family Loves seafood and now we live Harvey Cedars Shellfish. Will be a "must go" stop for us when we're in LBI. Highly recommended.

Evita A.

Yelp
Food was very good but not accepting credit cards is unacceptable! And it's not displayed anywhere until you ask for the check and they inform you there's an ATM inside! Which charges $3! Especially during Covid no establishment should be allowed to only accept cash!

Lisa W.

Yelp
Had a lovely time Friday night. The hostess was so sweet and our waiter gave impeccable service. The swordfish was fresh and prepared well. Very fun guests surrounding us. Fantastic evening!

Haley S.

Yelp
The best seafood spot on the island! Fresh, well cooked and delicious. Our server, Ray, was fantastic! Family feel and great prices

Lily N.

Yelp
Our meal was absolutely delicious! The Calamari Veracruz was a family favorite, as well as the welcoming atmosphere with a ring toss game outside for the kids and liquor store across the street for the adults (it's BYOB FYI). The seafood was VERY fresh with several of the dinners being local straight out of Barnegat light. In addition, the entire staff went out of their way to make sure we felt taken care of. If you are looking for a family-friendly restaurant that has the freshest seafood available on the island- this is the place to be.

Joey A.

Yelp
Our go to spot for seafood. The calamari Veracruz is the best calamari. Olivia was our server and she was great. Great for BYOB too

Henry K.

Yelp
Me and a couple of my lads were looking for a place to eat when we came across This place. We walked in to see the unsanitary "waitress" use her unwashed bare hands to cut open the clams and massage them. Seeing this we should have turned around and left. But we didn't. We sat down and I looked at text message from my mom and I was rudely told to put it away or I would be thrown out without question. So I left my mom unanswered wonder where I could be. Then comes ordering the food. We order normal food nothing to hard to make. My chicken tenders tasted like my toenail and the 65% of the clams were empty. When were were about to pay we were told that it was cash only which is ridiculous in the modern world with many other options for example Apple Pay and debit. Although this inconvenience we politely payed our amount and left a tip. It was not 20% but it was the correct amount for the service we received. As we left we were screamed at that our tip was not to their standards, so we had to use the rest of our money in order to satisfy the standards, even though tip is based on opinion of service. To anyone looked to eat here I say loudly turn away and don't go here Please!

Julia S.

Yelp
Loved the clam chowder and the Alaskan snow crab legs. The rice that came with the soft shell crabs was not a large serving and the soft shell crabs were mediocre. Muscles were very good though. We would order from here again. Cash only but the prices felt reasonable.

Carolyn Z.

Yelp
Another great meal at Harvey Cedars Shellfish! The scallops were tender and very tasty. Everything in the seafood combo was cooked to perfection, along with the shrimp scampi. There was a slight hiccup in our order and holy crap, Ray, our waiter, was right on it! Not only great food, but great service also. Wishing them lots of luck this season.
