Longtime Twin Cities Bartender Troy Tindal Dies at 45 | Eater Twin Cities

"I remember The Hasty Tasty as one of the cocktail-centric places in the area where Troy worked and was a familiar, beloved figure in the bartending community, often supporting friends at industry events even when not working." - Joy Summers

Alejandro Castillon Opens Taqueria In Former Hasty Tasty Location | Eater Twin Cities

"The previous tenant at the address was Hasty Tasty, which was only open at that location for less than a year and left behind some awkward taxidermy that is now being removed during Prieto’s light renovations." - Joy Summers

The Hasty Tasty is Totally Closed, Despite Confusing Social Media Presence | Eater Twin Cities

"After a brief, busy reopening intended to use up perishable inventory, I learned that the cocktail-, smoked-meats- and small-plates restaurant on the corner of Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue is now closed: owner Michael Veazey wrote to Eater Twin Cities, "The Hasty Tasty is CLOSED for the foreseeable future." The Hasty Tasty first opened in November of 2017 with chef Chris Gerster in the kitchen and Bittercube creating the cocktail menu. It appeared to close in early January, with employees reporting they had been let go without notice, and confusion followed when social-media posts teased a happy hour and an event promising two long-time residents would be sharing flautas and tacos; over the weekend customers filled the building and helped clear out perishable inventory. Veazey said he has been approached by "several A+ Minneapolis restaurant operators hoping to take over the space," though the restaurant's Facebook page continues to list normal business hours despite the closure." - Joy Summers

A Minneapolis Restaurant Returns From the Brink of Closure to Serve Again | Eater Twin Cities

"After a string of confusing social-media posts—despite reports of closure, employees being let go, and the doors reportedly locked during business hours—I watched The Hasty Tasty tease followers with promises of a happy hour; one post looked like a mistakenly scheduled update while another touted two long-time residents of the building who would be sharing flautas and tacos at the restaurant. Meanwhile, phone calls went unanswered and the host stand line seemed disconnected, but then the lights came back on and the restaurant filled with people. Owner Michael Veazey says he is hoping to hold the restaurant afloat amid transition and is looking for a strategic partner to buy the business or sublet the space to continue The Hasty Tasty's momentum. For now, The Hasty Tasty has the lights on, and we will be watching to see what comes next for the restaurant on the corner of Lyndale and Lake Street in Minneapolis." - Joy Summers

Year Old LynLake Restaurant Is the First Closure of 2019 | Eater Twin Cities

"I noticed the lights are out at The Hasty Tasty and all messages have gone unanswered; City Pages reports the smoked-meat-and-cocktail spot at the corner of Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis has permanently shuttered. It opened in November of 2017 with Chris Gerster manning the kitchen for owner Michael Veazey and deliberately resisted cuisine classification: despite a giant smoker it was not presented as barbecue, and although it served Bittercube cocktails it wasn’t positioned as a craft-cocktail place. The menu covered comfort-food territory from poutine and mac and cheese to spicy pasta, but the often-empty location, difficult parking, and lack of an active group of regulars may have contributed to its closure." - Joy Summers

Google
Awesome atmosphere. Feels like your in a 50's diner! The French toast with strawberries was amazing! Coffee was superb! The waitress was sweet.

Google
Stopped in for breakfast with some friends after a soccer match. Despite showing up at 10am, the wait for an 8 person table wasn't too bad at all. Our server immediately greeted us and took our drink orders. Our food arrived quickly and as ordered, which is always great to see. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and left with full stomachs. Portion sizes were perfect. We'll be sure to make a return trip in the near future. I highly suggest eating here!!

Taylor M.

Google
Good service, fresh food and a classic atmosphere. Honestly the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had. It was so reasonably priced - we ate for under $30 for the both of us with drinks.

Google
Fun place with a '50's atmosphere. Service is never bad, and often it's outstanding. Menu is all basic American diet--sort of along the lines of an old-fashioned diner, if you went to one when you were a kid. Don't go there if you're looking for health conscious, but for a really fun, reasonably priced meal, it's exactly what you're looking for. Breakfast is served all day, and the breakfasts are fabulous. Biscuits and gravy are are particularly good. I'll often get a half order of biscuits and gravy with whatever else I order, and I almost feel up just on that. The sandwiches-- and really pretty much everything else--are good-to-wonderful. The one thing you've GOT to try is the fried fish. It is out-of-this-world delicious every single time I've gotten it. And every Friday there's an all you can eat fried fish special. Go try it out!

Google
Was hesitant to try this place from the outside look of the building and its location, however, it had more good reviews than compared to a high-end place that was triple the price. Decided to give it a try. Location isn’t the worst but could be better, inside appeared to not be updated in decades, but wasn’t dilapidated. Decor was various antique memorabilia. The menu consisted of breakfast to dinner meals and the highest price was under $15. Very reasonable pricing on all items and all home cooked foods. Service was excellent and the food was quite good. Very good portion size, tasty, and great value!

Google
Home style delicious cooking. Retro decor. Friendly staff. Amazing prices. 😲

Google
We come here frequently for breakfast on the weekends. Usually there is a wait, but they run efficiently, so it's not a long wait. This morning we arrived earlier than normal and were seated right away. The food is good, prices are reasonable, and the vibe is exactly like s small-town diner from the movies. We really like this place.

Google
Great local dinner. Fantastic breakfast and homemade pies 🥧 Really dayton treasure. Very nostalgic. Great early bird breakfast special

Hayden S.

Yelp
I have been coming here about 4 times a year since I was 5. I'm 17 now it is incredible to see how this place has continued to make consistent + amazing food. The workers make you feel like you're apart of the family. With small talk every time they come around. Will always introduce people to this place every chance I get.

Yelp
I'm retired and I've been eating here for my entire life. Good food. Extraordinary service by the friendliest staff in town. Low prices. If you need tablecloths and uniformed staff please stay in the suburbs. This is a classic diner. I love the Ranch Burger (open faced burger covered in chili. All you can eat fish on Friday. Jello is always on the menu.

Cathy M.

Yelp
The worst food ever ordered fish and Mac and cheese the fish had been sitting because the breading wasn't even crunchy the Mac and cheese was tasteless obviously it had been sitting the waitress had a really bad attitude problem if it were my restaurant she'd be gone
google avatar

Emma D.

Yelp
Came for breakfast with big group this morning. Wasn't hard to get a seat. The waitress was nice. My cousins kids were given quarters to use the machine that gives out plastic eggs with little trinkets inside them. Food wise. Prices aren't bad. I had a western omelet & a side of grits with cheese & bacon on them. Was a filling meal. Plenty of food. Came out fast. They love coming here on the weekends.
google avatar

Yelp
This is your typical greasy spoon diner. The place has clearly been here forever but it is mostly charming. Apparently we came in when they were short staffed, but it took absolutely forever for us to get menus let alone our food. Food was exactly what you would expect from a diner. Nothing special, but gets the job done.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Best pancakes I've ever had. Will definitely come back. Very attractive and friendly wait staff. Loved the atmosphere. Very clean store as well
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
It was nothing special. It was crowded and noisy, and my breakfast was lukewarm. It was difficult to get coffee refills. It was very, very casual and noisy, not a good place to converse.
google avatar

Yelp
Was traveling in Dayton and stopped for breakfast before my flight. Thank you Yelp...for info on this local gem. Neighborhood coffee shop. Busy place, the locals know what's going on....simple,comfort food, at fair prices by nice people. Mushroom and cheese omelette, coffee, and bacon. Even 20% grat, $20! Stop by and give it a try!!
google avatar

Dwight M.

Yelp
I will not suggest that you order over easy eggs or scrambled eggs. If you like them cooked to your personal order, they only cook them. Hard pancakes are great French toast are great service well done.
google avatar

May C.

Yelp
It is a nice little dinner place, the staff was so pleasant and very attentive to their guest. You can tell they have their regulars here! Food quality and pricing is very fair here. We would definitely come back again with our family!
google avatar

Fred B.

Yelp
Old school, cheap prices, pretty good food. If you like dives, you'll love Hasty Tasty...
google avatar

Arthur L.

Yelp
Attentive service in a typical diner setting. The omelet was generous in size and filling.
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a Sunday. Waited 20 min for a table for two. It was fine. Standard diner fare. My daughter got the chocolate chip pancakes and ate every last morsel. I got the biscuits and gravy and was not impressed in the slightest. The servers were polite, efficient, and didn't hover because they were clearly busy. Not sure we would go back. Like I said, it was fine.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This is a cool place. They have license plates up above the receiving food are. Went for breakfast. There was a 15 minute wait but I think it only took like 10 minutes to get a table. The waitress was nice and got our drinks quick. The food selection was huge. The prices are excellent. The portions are huge! I even had to take home my biscuits and gravy!
google avatar

Xander M.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast joints in the city. My family have become regulars here. It's quick service, nothing super fancy but super delicious food. The servers are some of the fastest workers I have ever seen and our beverages never get to the point where we can ask for a refill. I look forward to every visit.

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. As close to southern cooking in Ohio that I grew up with in Louisiana.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Gosh I love this place so much! The decor is pure nostalgia and the home cooked meals are just like what my grandma would make. All the staff are amazing, hard working people that are speedy yet friendly. My husband and I live just minutes away and usually come here for breakfast once a week. Also one of the few places that's still super affordable too in today's economy.

Lori V.

Yelp
wanted some nostalgia... we were told to "sit anywhere" then completely ignored. waited for about 20 minutes to be acknowledged and decided to go elsewhere.
google avatar

Carson P.

Yelp
The food is perfect every time. You will never know what the bottom of your coffee cup looks like (excellent service). And the atmosphere will bring back warm memories and help create new ones. I'm so proud of this local establishment and will continue to return as long as I live in Dayton.
google avatar

Yelp
The Hasty Tasty has done it again! I haven't been here in probably 10 years, and it is exactly as delicious, welcoming, and speedy as I remember. You can't beat the old diner vibes with tons to look at while you eat. The hosts are quick to seat people, and seem to have the current table status memorized like the back of their hand. The servers are always busy because this place is POPPIN on the weekends, but they do a fantastic job no matter how many tables they have. Honestly, I feel like their pancakes are the showstopper here! They are light and fluffy while also having the density you need in a good pancake. Even with whipped cream/chocolate chips/chocolate sauce/syrup the pancakes were not too sweet which is a win in my book. If you're anywhere in Dayton or even just passing through, give the Hasty Tasty a try, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Art J.

Yelp
Love this place. Breakfasts are always delicious, hot and fast! Classic breakfast items done well. A great local place.

Alejandra O.

Yelp
There are no frills at this diner. Standard old School diner type of food. My friend and I went for breakfast/brunch and our service was quick and food came out within 15 minutes. Overall not a bad experience we just felt a little rushed with how quick everything was while looking for a low key weekday brunch experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Hasty Tasty is an awesome little diner that has been a part of the Dayton community for a very long time! My friends and I had breakfast here this past weekend and couldn't have been happier with the service and awesome food. The diner looks like a typical American diner, completely with a diner bar to eat and lots of booth seating. We were immediately brought coffee and greeted by 2 very friendly servers. I ordered the special of Jalapeño sausage with eggs, potatoes and 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy. The sausage was split and fried, the potatoes were a little different from typical hash browns with onion and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Truly a wonderful meal! I definitely recommend the Hasty Tasty and I can't wait to return!
google avatar

Gini P.

Yelp
I love their food. Breakfast is my favorite. I usually get eggs bacon fried potato's and gravy. They have chocolate chip pancakes. Just makes sense that's what I'll try next.
google avatar

Keri L.

Yelp
Service was fantastic and our meal was delicious. Several things we wanted to try so we will have to come back. We already talked about making this spot our biweekly Saturday morning breakfast joint I got the spinach and cheese 3 egg omelette and added mushrooms. Coffee and a tomato juice. SO got chicken and waffles and I swear he was making love noises the entire time he ate
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere was interesting. Reminded me of a 1970's diner or like something you'd see in a movie. Everything was or at least appeared to be original to the building. Not a thing appeared to be updated in the last 50 years. To my recollection, it was all booths. Large glass windows everywhere. The restroom had one stall and my knees hit the door when I sat down. I think the bathrooms might have been as afterthought? Strange. The food was good, not great. Service was good. Place appeared to be clean, just outdated.
google avatar

S F.

Yelp
Who was very well prepared tasted very good Services is very fast I guess that's what they call it. Hasty tasty. We didn't wait for anything. Waitress was very nice. Restaurant was clean and had a 50s theme to it played 50 things music very enjoyable, dining experience
google avatar

Matt E.

Yelp
I think I found my Dayton Breakfast Spot. Awesome 50s ambiance, wonderful service, and good food. The place was jumping on a Sunday Morning. I'll definitely be back!!!

Terri R.

Yelp
The food is great just as I remembered it over 30 years ago. The service is fantastic. The people are so friendly brings back so many fond memories.
google avatar

Dawn P.

Yelp
simply wonderful . Eating here is like eating at my grandmas house. It's comfort food
google avatar

Ernie E.

Yelp
Old cafe for sure but the food was good and the price was better. The kids and I had a late brunch. My son and I had french toast and they hit the spot.

Tedra S.

Yelp
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! I have many many memories from years and years of patronage. I can honestly say that the quality of the service nor the quality of the food has differed in almost 30 years of eating here. It's comfort food at it's finest! I've probably tried almost everything on the menu over the years and not once can I say that I had a bad meal.
google avatar

Baret S.

Yelp
Got our party of five right in for supper on a weeknight. Food was good with good size portions. Breakfast options were good! Service was friendly and attempted to our needs. We will be back!
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
Solid breakfast place. Friendly fast service and food was great! Just a random find but for sure would be back!! Great diner feel.
google avatar

Tracey G.

Yelp
Great service and the best comfort food. What you would expect from a small town diner. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Marcus D.

Yelp
Our first time to this restaurant and wasn't really expecting much. Loved the Diner vibe and the older props inside the place. The menu was lengthy and had a flap for specials. The portion sizes were large and the food was great. Service was speedy and friendly. Reasonable prices, large portions and unique decor, looking forward to going back.
google avatar

Nessa M.

Yelp
Great food and service! We went to celebrate a birthday and loved the decorations on the walls of the restaurant
google avatar

Luisa D.

Yelp
Went for breakfast here while visiting #wgi2023. I had Western Omelette with biscuits and gravy. The best biscuits and gravy.
google avatar

Lyssa C.

Yelp
Went on a holiday weekend. Sat quickly even though we were a party of 5. Service was quick even with their level of customers. All the food was cooked correctly and hot. The pancakes didn't have chips just on top they had them baked inside too! All was cooked exactly how we ordered. Old diner vibes but would suggest again in a heartbeat.

Madiha K.

Yelp
Crowded seating but able to accommodate my party with small toddler and infant even though it wasn't comfortable seating and have to dodge staff while getting into and out of the seating so don't plan on having to get up/move around during your meal, normal wait time to get good and hot all the orders right

Scott H.

Yelp
If you've not eaten at Hasty Tasty, you are missing out! The servers are kind and friendly. The food is delicious and served quickly. Great atmosphere.
google avatar

Ariel P.

Yelp
Very cute and kitschy, this humble resturant serves great good at a cheap price! Servers are friendly and fast. They have a wide variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A cute local place if you want something cheaper than Bob Evan, but a step above Waffle House.
google avatar

Dustin M. R.

Yelp
The final meal of our weekend trip to the Dayton area was breakfast. To be completely honest, I picked the Hasty Tasty Pancake House exclusively because they had a squished penny machine. Arriving just before 9am, the restaurant was very busy, but we were still seated pretty quickly at a double booth in the side dining room. Concerned that breakfast would take forever, I encouraged our children to be decisive, and as such, we were able to place our full meal orders when the nice waitress came by to take our drink orders. All told, the five of us ordered a wide variety of meats and styles of eggs, pancakes, and waffles. Before tip, our bill came to $55.23, which felt reasonable for the large amount of food we ordered. The restaurant was decorated like a mom and pop diner from yesteryear, complete with vintage license plates hanging from the wall, as well as antique bric-à-brac. Additionally there were historic posters and magazine articles sprinkled about, extolling the virtues of various races, air shows, and the city itself. The squished penny machine was located in the main dining room and was in good working order, so while waiting for our food, the kids and I happily made pressed mementos of our Dayton trip. In surprisingly short order our mountain of food began arriving, and right away we were all impressed by the quantity we got. My wife said her omelet was good, while all three kids really liked their combinations of meats, eggs, and pancakes. Personally, I found my sunny side up eggs and waffle side to be very good, while my bacon was perfect. We also appreciated how our waitress did an excellent job of keeping our four coffees topped off. PROS: good food, reasonable prices, attentive staff, and a squished penny machine! CONS: we had no complaints Overall, I rate the Hasty Tasty Pancake House as being Very Good, and would definitely return the next time I am in the area.
google avatar

Colin T.

Yelp
I really liked this place! They serve breakfast all day but have lunch & dinner options as well! I had the Tasty Burger combo but substituted onion rings. It was very good, fresh off of the grill and served pretty darn quick! The atmosphere here is a throwback to the past! Tons of old Ohio license plates adorn the wall with other dare I say antique memorabilia? It's a homey environment and the wait staff is very friendly! Prices are reasonable and they even special menus for kids! I plan on revisiting as time permits. Not to be missed

Jess M.

Yelp
Top notch service! Heather treats us like family each time we visit. The food is typical diner food with the old diner feel for decor. I suggest the omelet or the French toast for breakfast. My friend loves the fish (all you can eat on Friday) or the tasty burger and onion rings!
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall 50s style diner. Excellent food, really nice server. My wife and I both got burgers and they were terrific. Cooked just right with soft warm buns. We tried the cherry pie. It was Excellent. If you like quintessential out of a TV show/movie small town diner this is your place.

Barb D.

Yelp
Delicious food with hearty serving and plenty of coffee refills. Outstanding service as well, even though the restaurant was busy. No long wait for food. Recommend you try this restaurant.
google avatar

Caroline E.

Yelp
Old style diner with outstanding service, great food at a reasonable price! We especially love it for breakfast.

Yelp
WAY back in my high school years, it was the classic drive-in. Pull up and order in your car. Now it's strictly dine-in or take-out. I called in order for breakfast for carry-out and they were quick to answer, take order, and it was ready for me to pick-up in 10 minutes. Food was excellent.
