"Founded in 1907, this restaurant is run by the proprietress and her son. Though the building is new, the interior exudes the same charm diners have loved for decades, parlaying an unchanging old-school elegance to a new generation. Unagi is prepared in the old style, time-consuming in its attention to detail but well worth the wait. Side dishes such as steamed egg custard and soft-boiled soybeans help pass the time until the eel is ready." - Michelin Inspector
What a fabulous Unagi here! I literally just about fell off my chair. I couldn't believe how tender they were!
I love having Sake while waiting unagi. One of best way to spend weekends.

Super arrogant restaurant owner but with very good food. If you cannot take the temper, don’t go 😅

Not satisfied :( Very small portions made probably for a 10 year old kid. The flavor of the eel was fine but nothing special. The menu is a joke nothing but eel. Very small business so they force you to order 1 per person no sharing. Very overpriced $30 per person. I don't understand the hype? The old couple running the place were warm to Japanese people but not welcoming for foriegner. She had a bad attitude. She did know a good amount of English though. Very cluttered place full of Japanese decor.

Excellent quality of food (the best unagi, I ever have),
Staff Not friendly but polite ( auntie who is owner is very Japanese manner, however more friendly when we are polite in her shop ),
Shop is very small ( only two tables ), look messy with decoration but clean and no smell, feel cold with natural wind ( like thai wooden house ),
Strongly recommend to anyone who like to have a true Japanese unagi.

Traditional good taste of eel and rice. Small room and seat.

Hole-in-the-wall Unagi specialist restaurant. Quality food and a small alcoholic beverage selection. Long waiting time for food, but it is worth it. You can watch baseball on the telly while waiting. Limited English menu, more variety if you request for and can read the Japanese version. Small, cosy, and not for large groups. It seems like a regulars-only type of restaurant, but they are fairly good with foreigners.

Came on a Sunday went inside and asked to be seated but he said no "special reservation" only and laughed after we left. Would not recommend this racist place if you want a good experience.

Rude to people who are not Japanese. The food is very overpriced for what you get ($29 for eel on a small amount of rice). Go to the Chinese ramen place next door.

Yelp
This unajyu restaurant, located near Kaminarimon, has been operating since 1907. It has only 12 seats and all the seats were occupied shortly after opening at 12 pm. About 10 couples arrived after us, but I noticed they were informed that reservations were required.
The unajyu was excellent! It took around 30 minutes since they steamed unagi before they grilled it. This process seems to make unagi flavorful. The white rice under the unagi was also delicious.
The woman who served us was very attentive. Overall, I am satisfied with the visit here.
