I've previously reviewed the Franklin location of Hattie B's. This one applies solely to breakfast.
Imagine it's 7am and an email hits from Hattie B's letting you know that, as of 7am, they are serving breakfast. You read the email. Re-read it. Check dates, times, and location info. Yep, Hattie B's in Franklin, at The Factory, serves breakfast as of 7a.m. on April 10, 2024. You get up, clean up, dress down, and drive over.
I'm not going to lie; Chick-fil-A has a good chicken biscuit. The not so good is their biscuits tend to crumble into pieces. Near the end, I'm often just holding a piece of chicken and wearing 10% of the biscuit. Enter Hattie B's.
Let me warn you - this was opening day. They'd been "officially" serving breakfast for less than 2 hours when I got there. I can't vouch for how good or bad things may get in the future as they develop a routine. Despite the newness, there were still a few other people around who were eating or waiting on food, so it looks like the announcement was effective. The majority of people there were HB staff.
I got just a chicken biscuit. I didn't want to compare CFA's spicy biscuit offering to HB's Ultimate Biscuit offering, which has a lot more toppings. Apples to apples was my goal.
Like CFA, HB's piece of chicken is biscuit sized (see photo). It is not a "I have to eat all the chicken sticking outside of the biscuit to get to the biscuit" offering. The portion is reasonable for $5. I also went for the tots. Admittedly, I am not a fan of CFA or Hardee's rounds (let's admit it, they are just smaller tater tots.).
The biscuit was good. It was really soft . My first bite made me think of a croissant. Buttery. Flakey. Warm. Soft. Buttery. And, of course, buttery. Okay, maybe a smidge too buttery. Still, it was good. The chicken was moist and set at the right spice range - as expected for HB's.
Now, the tots. I think tater tots are a lunch/dinner food. These were accompanied by beer cheese - very much a lunch/dinner type of a side item. The beer cheese had an evident odor of beer (it was properly named and described). The tots were not plain, but seasoned. Lunch? Dinner? Well, who cares. They were great! The tot seasoning was on point. I would eat them for any of the meals throughout the day. My first few dips into the cheese said "yep, lunch or dinner," but by the 4th tot it was working and I didn't stop...okay, couldn't stop, dipping. Beer dip is an extra $2.
All things considered - despite opening day, beer cheese and tots, and enough butter to make a cardiologist shudder, HB is on the right track with breakfast. There are several options for biscuits, plus waffles, on the menu. My next trip will be for the Ultimate biscuit that has chicken, bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. It's like every farm food animal participated! Yes, I will get tots and beer cheese.
Enjoy!
