The 38 Essential Honolulu Restaurants

"One of Honolulu’s most beloved beachside restaurants, just steps from the sand on the quiet end of Waikīkī, was recently refreshed by new ownership of the Kaimana Beach Hotel. Morning views and eggs Benedict are the perennial draw here, in the shade of the 100-year-old hau trees. But it’s also the perfect place to catch the sunset, along with a revamped cocktail menu of modern tropical drinks and dinner dishes including a crisp-fried octopus with miso bearnaise that’s executed with a light touch befitting the outdoor setting." - Martha Cheng

The 21 Best Restaurants In Honolulu, Oahu 2024

"For drinks right by the sand, head to Hau Tree in the Kaimana Beach Hotel, which feels like you’re visiting a friend’s dream beach house. Find local beers, ciders, and tropical drinks including a variety of piña coladas, spanning everything from a classic version to the Miami Vice, part frose, part piña colada. Hau Tree is also a great place to come if you don’t feel like drinking, but still want to soak up the scene: non-alcoholic cocktails—like the E Komo Mai with pineapple, guava, lilikoi, orgeat, lime, and iced tea—get the tropical treatment, too." - martha cheng

Kaimana Beach Hotel: First In

"After a day in the sea and sun, it’s tempting to call it a night and relax in your room. But it would be a shame to miss out on food and drinks at Hau Tree. The new concept comes from James Beard nominee chef Chris Kajioka (of Honolulu’s hot new restaurant Miro Kaimuki) in collaboration with Alan Takasaki (of Le Bistro)."

Hidden gem 💎 of a spot for brunch or a romantic sunset dinner looking out onto the beach. The atmosphere here is spectacular. Definitely need to make reservations for the seats closer to the beach, but the bar area is first come, first serve, and is equally as nice. I highly recommend a benedict and a mimosa, especially with the fresh tropical juices they offer. The crisp breeze as you eat here is just amazing. It is on the more expensive side but it's convenient if you are staying at the hotel.

Google
We came here for the sunset view and it worth a trip. Probably the best subset view at Waikiki. Food is great too, the appetizers are delicious. The eggplant is a surprise - very different than I expected in a good way.

Google
One of the best meals I have ever had in my life. Jana the hostess and Gabe, our server, went above and beyond in accommodating my daughter and I. Food was spectacular, incredible views and employee interactions made our night. Highly recommend especially during sunset!

Google
Such a beautiful restaurant, it's the perfect date spot. I would recommend going in the evening when the lights are on and the beach is calm. Food was good too, a variety of options were available. The drinks were really great!

Google
My partner and I made a reservation for counter seating at sunset. Food, drinks, music, ambience all perfect. The counter seats overlook the main dining area and the beach. Perfect option for a more laid back but still upscale dining experience. Highly recommend the Ube piña colada, rainbow caviar, local fish. If I could change 1 thing, I wish our counter seats had more height to them for a completely unobstructed view over the balcony flora. Also, keep in mind there are structural pillars that could obstruct some seats from a nice view.

Google
We had a beautiful view from the bar and ordered brunch. The food was delicious!!! We ordered the Greek grain salad and the crab bennies. The Greek grain salad was nothing like I've ever had before and it was absolutely delicious. If you like fresh Mediterranean type food with pine nuts, quinoa, crispy chickpeas, various pickled veggies and feta cheese you will love this dish. The flavors that mix into this salad are beautiful. The crab bennies are also delicious. The atmosphere and scenery are on point. Highly recommend again and again. We will be back before we leave.

Google
I enjoyed the open air dining experience. Even though I was a bit in the back by the bar, I still had a lovely view of the sunset. We were lucky to get sunset seating without a reservation. I am only giving this restaurant 3 stars because the service was slow, and I was let down in the value. I have been to many restaurants ranging from street carts to Michelin star, and rarely do I leave feeling like my expectations weren't met. While the octopus appetizer was tasty and plentiful, the steak left me dissatisfied. It wasn't hot, I was unimpressed with the flavor, and it didn't look or feel like the stated 8 oz. That's usually the perfect size, but they served just two strips of steak. It felt like an appetizer. I do think the drinks and appetizers we ate were worth ordering, but my entree was very disappointing.

Google
Incredible experience. Was here for a work event and all the staff were amazing and so attentive and kind, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. Great views of the sunset and the beach!

Yelp
Came for dinner and drinks-- incredible ambiance, I would return for the trees alone. As for the food, it was rather hit or miss. Drinks were tasty though- very unique pina coladas! I ordered the Ube pina colada project which was amazing! Definitely on the sweet side from the Ube. The color is stunning! Ube gives the drink more of a heartiness which I enjoyed. I'm curious to try their other flavors. For started out with the focaccia and the king salmon poke cornets which came arranged on a piece of sculptural driftwood- stunning and very on theme (and delicious)! Focaccia was good- warm and I liked whatever they added to the butter. For mains we tried the kauai prawn campanelle, kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti, and the pistou bucatini pastas. We also ordered the king salmon and the washugyu striploin. Nothing particularly stood out. The kauai prawn campanelle and the kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti honestly tasted the same- basically plain buttered pasta with either tomatoes or shrimp. I liked the topping on the tomato strozzapreti but I wished there was more of it to give the dish more texture and flavor. I enjoyed the pistou bucatini the most, but this dish was still lacking flavor wise. The steak was a tad too tough given it is wagyu. I enjoyed the coconut cake a lot and would get this again! I like how light the frosting is- not too sweet and not too heavy. I usually love chocolate but wasn't the biggest fan of the chocolate cookies in the cookies and cream sundae dessert. The icecream was good though. We came for a late dinner around 7:45pm. Service was very good though a bit slow. Perhaps we were all just hungry and eager for food. Overall, I would definitely return for drinks and small bites. I would highly recommend the Ube pina colada project and the king salmon poke cornets. However, I would likely not return for dinner again. I have heard good things about their brunch and would love to come back during the day!

Yelp
What a disappointment ! We have been there in 2021 for dinner and the food was good and tasty. We were happy to be back. Light bites are not a happy hour menu, everything is full price. The food was average. The hamachi was good but the burger was really disappointed. For the price we paid, we expected a better quality bun and not Mac Donald's frozen fries. At least the cocktails were really good as well as the service. I do not plan to go back

Yelp
We came here because it is the restaurant under our hotel. The view is fabulous and they have wonderful seating outside. We made reservations, which I thought meant we'd be near the sand. We got a seat but it was not near the view. This seemed a little misleading for making a reservation 5 days in advance. Now don't get me wrong, the food was phenomenal everything we ate was fabulous. However, the portions and the price are not aligned. If we did not order an appetizer, side, AND dessert, our meal would not have made us even remotely full. To start we had the focaccia bread, it was light and fluffy. The cheese and garlic with their brown butter were really delectable. The side of rice was really yummy. You could tell the rice was handmade. My husband had the steak and while it was delicious...it was almost $60 for two thin slices of meat and a little bit of potatoes underneath. I had the catch of the day and it was also delicious but again, a very small piece of fish with a little macadamia nuts. The pistachio cake was not great. It was okay. The bill was over $200 with drinks and we did not leave full. The drinks are STRONG. But with that they also don't taste great. Good quality, horrible portions and highly expensive.

Yelp
Our experience at Hau Tree was nothing short of phenomenal! From the dreamy ambiance to the mouthwatering food and stellar service, everything about this place left me beyond impressed. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Although our table wasn't in the lower area with the best beach view, our view was still gorgeous, and the overall vibe was just perfect. The servers were incredibly accommodating and even offered to swap out pork in some dishes for us since we don't eat it. Their attention to detail really made the experience unforgettable. Here's what we ordered--and let me tell you, I still can't stop thinking about this meal: * Loco Moco - 10/10 This was our second time trying loco moco, and Hau Tree knocked it out of the park. The beef patty was unbelievably tender and juicy, and every bite of this dish was pure perfection. * Hau Tree Eggs Benedict - 9/10 We substituted the pork with turkey bacon, and it was amazing. The flavors were so well-balanced and satisfying. * Lemon Ricotta Pancakes - 10/10 These pancakes were everything. Creamy, fluffy, and just the right balance of tart and sweet. The lemon flavor wasn't overpowering, and I could seriously eat these every day. The food and service here were exceptional. If you plan to visit, try to snag a table on the lower level for an even better beach view--it's worth it! Hau Tree is a must-try, and I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
A touristy bar and restaurant without being too touristy. A good location to watch the sunset, sip tropical drinks and dine on fresh finds. I enjoyed their freshly made pastas here. They have that "chew"! Sweet service by the hostesses and the server. It is an outdoor venue so be prepared for nature on some nights to pay you a visit, attracted by the table lights. It looked like flying ants/termites, but they didn't bite.

Yelp
Love the foods. But my cocktail "Until we meet again" was a little bit too strong for me love it for the name of the drink. 9|10 Excellent service and well deserved 20% gratuity. My newlywed couple chose this place for their wedding dinner and we all enjoyed it. Too bad they couldn't fit everyone in the same or possibly near table to each other. We were seated separately and pretty far apart from each other.

Yelp
Hau Tree was such a unique and beautiful experience! The restaurant itself is inside a hotel and is almost outdoors and indoors at the same time. The atmosphere was very friendly and beautiful. When the sun is out, you can view the beach and be right up close to the sand! There are several trees that grow right inside the restaurant as well. Ube Pina Colada: 9/10 Pina Old Fashioned: 8/10 Crab Tagliatelle: 9/10 Grilled Salmon: 9/10 Our waitress was super friendly and sweet and really wanted to make sure we had a comfortable experience. I really appreciated her checking in on us to make sure we were doing well. I highly recommend checking out Hau Tree, especially during the day time!

Yelp
Located in the Kaimana Beach Hotel, with Elite valet service available right up front. Walk up the front steps, past the front desk and towards the host stand at the end of the lobby. Open air restaurant with a beautiful view of Waikiki beach and the sunset right out front. If it's raining, there's some cover from above, but they may need to maneuver around tables to bring people "inside" if it's pouring. We got sat with a party of 6. Made reservations beforehand so that we could guarantee a table on a Sunday evening. The waitress took our drink and app orders. The apps came, and then she continued to take our entree orders. Area of opportunity for improvement here is that we still never got our first round of drinks by the time the entrees came. By that point I think the waitress finally realized that we never got our first drink orders, quickly brought the first round over and then asked us, what else we wanted to drink...like playing catch-up. It was a weird transition is all. And then it was dessert time. One person in the party ordered coffee with cream and sugar. Got the coffee, and asked for cream and sugar once again, but still never ended up with that at the end of the dessert course, another opportunity for improvement. Overall the food was on par and it matched its ambiance. My only wish is that the service was a little tighter, which would've given this experience a 5-star for sure.

Yelp
Incredible ocean front setting. You're basically dining on the beach with a stone's throw away from the wash of the waves. Sadly this restaurant hasn't been the same since new ownership took over a little more than 3 years ago. We've dined here several times since and the most consistent thing is its inconsistency. Average food. Service was very polite and professional but very slow and uneven. Learning from past experience, we ordered a round of sparkling wine when the waiter first approached the table but it still took 15 minutes to arrive. We ordered a 2nd round of sparkling wine after ordering dinner. They came out after the appetizers arrived and the bottled wine opened. The 2 salads came out then the serving utensils arrived 5 minutes later. My lamb chops were on the rubbery side almost like the meat was steamed and the chimichuri had an off putting bitter after taste. Crab Tagliatelle very under seasoned, lacked flavors except for a pronounced presence of butter. King Salmon perfectly cooked. Nice and moist interior with a nice flavorful crust. The portion was literally half of what it was when we dined there 7 months ago. Crispy Spanish Octopus with miso béarnaise was the best dish of the night. Super tender octopus with a velvety, nutty slightly sweet miso béarnaise. Great spot for date night but not a good value for quality of food and service. Happy Eating!!

Yelp
When Janey said she wanted to take me to brunch, I was a little skeptical because I had never heard of the Kaimana Hotel. But it was an adventure and since I had never been, why not? Our table wasn't ready so we waited in the lobby. Very old school Hawaiian but modern. Felt like we were waiting for the original McGarrett to join us. We had a nice table for two and you cannot beat the view! Our server, Christopher, was friendly and funny! He made the experience enjoyable. We started with the delicious cold brew martinis and the ube cinnamon roll. That was a great way to start! Warm and soft, and deliciously sweet! I then had the loco moco which was very good. However, I should've had the eggs benedict like Janey. She ordered the avocado benedict and that hollandaise was amaaaaaazing! She didn't want the salsa that came with it and instead, Chris brought her a side of the hollandaise. So glad he did cause she let me have some of her potatoes and I dunked mine in it. Another round of martinis and we were set for the day. Definitely worth coming out to. It is pricier than some places, but you can't beat the view!

Yelp
You come here for the Ambiance and beach front seating not the food. I made a reservation and the beach front was all reserved so we had to sit up on the table which is still nice if I'm honest. We ordered a Mai tai and one pina colada as our drinks and both were strong. We ordered the caviar appetizer and chicken Cesar salad and they both were just ok. I would come back to sit by the water.

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant in a hotel with a nod to vintage decor vibes. If they have the roasted potatoes on the menu, get them, they are stellar! Everything we tried was delightful, a truffle pasta, salmon with Rainbow carrots, everything. Gorgeous yuzu dessert and a pistachio jaconde. Lanikai's Party Wave Pilsner was crisp and light. Service was impeccable too!
google avatar

Alexis Andrea N.

Yelp
Gorgeous beach side restaurant with lovely service and the best views! I wish the menu had more local food favorites but it was still good! I had a salad with ahi tuna and egg and the dressing might have been the best part! It was delicious! I went for my birthday so they gave me a nice pink cake that was gluten free! Service was sweet and warm!
google avatar

Jolene L.

Yelp
The first time I dined here, I was in awe of the view. What's not to like about ocean front scenery? The tasty food was a bonus. They sure have perfected the eggs Benedict! The second time I dined here, I tried their adult beverages which paired well with our delicious meal. If you like coffee, their Kunia Coffee Kona is fabulous! I'm not usually into oysters but these succulent Kusshi oysters had caviar on top of them! So extra :) The caviar with lemon creme fraiche was also very good! I was really impressed with their local ahi nicoise salad. Quite generous with the seared ahi, over the tender summer potato salad and curled endive. The delicate dressing of tomato and onion went well with the soft boiled egg. The dessert was incredible! Very nice pistachio joconde with namelaka calamansi curd. This was a delightful way to end our meal and paired nicely with our bottle of sauvignon blanc. I especially appreciated the wonderful service we received from Dalton. He was attentive and accommodating. More employees should be as pleasant as he is :) Thank you Dalton!!

Yelp
I wish I had take. Time to take more pics bc this location is epic. I would love to go back at sunset bc it's right on the sand. Then everything was cooked perfect. It's a rare occasion when you can say that's the best... I've ever had, well the fried zucchini was the best I've ever had. The whole meal from the sashimi to the drinks. The fish was cooked perfect. Desert was light and delicious. The trees were cool. Waiter was on point. Easy 5

Yelp
My favorite brunch on the island! My friends and I always come here when we want a cute brunch. The espresso martinis are amazing and every other drink I've tried here is so good. The benedicts and avocado toast are great. The restaurant is decorated super cute and right on the beach as well.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant & bar that is located in the Kaimana Beach Hotel. I came for cocktails and sat at the bar and had great service and conversations with the bar tenders. They're super friendly! DRINKS: I love frozen drinks and these are amazing. I got the Pina Colada Project in the classic iteration and ube and the bango mango daiquiri. I LOVED both of these and honestly still dream about them. I would highly recommend coming here for sunset drinks since it is located right on the beach with an unobstructed view towards Waikiki. The only downside to this is that it's a bit of a walk if you're staying in the heart of Waikiki, but so worth it. The walk is about 10 minutes.

Yelp
The last night me and my friend had before our flight we decided to do a nice dinner and this one did not disappoint. We were sat right next to the beach and the overall space was beautiful, not to mention the gorgeous sunset we were treated to. Everyone working was incredibly friendly and very helpful when ordering. Everything we got was delicious and I wish I could have again. Big tip though: still wear a little sunscreen as the light is hitting directly on the patio at that time of day. The view is absolutely worth it in my opinion
google avatar

Yelp
Really lovely spot to dine, great food and great service! We decided on the 5-course dinner experience and it was lovely! They even were able to make changes for someone in our party with a fish allergy. And the last minute changes were so delicious. I would return again simply for the great drinks and to enjoy the beautiful view as it is beach front and open air. A MUST while you are in Waikiki.

Yelp
Hau Tree's outdoor seating area probably has one of the best views in Oahu. With the old twisting tree branches decorated with lanterns and a sunset to die for, I can't imagine a better place to impress. The service is equally impressive. They cut our cake, took our pictures and regularly checked in. We ordered the Focaccia Bread, Salmon, Seared Local Fish and the rice bowl. The Salmon was tender and flavorful and the seared fish had an amazing crust. They were both elegantly plated and delicious. What stole the show for me was the Focaccia bread! Crispy, flaky and not too dense inside. It came with a garlic balsamic butter that I ended up smothering on everything. The only let down was the rice. It was undercooked and the ginger didn't pair well at all. Could have just used a rice cooker to get it nice and fluffy, but I suspect they cooked the rice in a pot... Overall an amazing experience. Even though the food isn't super original and won't win any awards, it's good enough to justify the price. However, that view and amazing service really takes Hau Tree over the top.

Yelp
Love going to Hau Tree for brunch! Perfect girls day spot. The crab cake benedict is my favorite!!! Service is always super attentive and friendly.

Yelp
Enjoyed Sunday brunch here. Food was incredibly fresh and delicious. Cocktails were refreshing and made with love. Service was spot on. Staff were very pleasant. Table was located with a perfect view of the beach. Great overall experience! Highly recommend.

Yelp
This restaurant has a beautiful vibe with the hanging lights at night. It is also right next to the beach, so the view is wonderful. The servers are super sweet and attentive. The food was a bit on the pricey side with okay portion sizes. The pasta was tasty and the drinks were good. It is a good spot for a date or girl's night out. Atmosphere: 5/5 Food: 4/5

Yelp
Lived here 8 years and I have gone here alot BUT: Dinner sucks. Trust me it just does. Breakfast and brunch is amazing. They have one of the best burgers on the island. The Ube cinnamon bun is heaven. Again seriously dinner is a rip off and sucks. They do a pre set mini menu which means they pre make everything aka like going to a wedding. Might be good quality but its been sitting already cooked like the cold prime rib I got tonight (also told them, and got a room temp one after).

Yelp
We visited this restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's milestone birthday, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. We had a 5:30 PM reservation and arrived on time, only to be asked to wait in the lobby. After about 10 minutes, we were seated at 5:40 PM. I ordered a Mai Tai and my boyfriend ordered a spicy margarita. When the drinks arrived, they were switched--my Mai Tai was served in the spicy margarita glass, complete with a tajin rim and lime, and the margarita was served in the Mai Tai glass (topped with a rum float). I took a sip of my unexpectedly spicy Mai Tai and proceeded to point this out to our waitress. While she corrected my drink, she assured us that my boyfriend would receive a correct margarita as his second drink. That drink never arrived. We started with the octopus appetizer, which was the only highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience took a nosedive. We ordered the local fish, along with sides of eggplant and potatoes. All four dishes were so overwhelmingly salty that they were nearly inedible--and we are big fans of salt. We barely touched the eggplant, potatoes, or my fish, and I mentioned this to our waitress. I specifically said we didn't want to send anything back, as we didn't want to make a scene, but I asked her to alert the kitchen for future diners. She assured us she would speak to the manager, but we never heard from her again. She passed our table at least four times without even acknowledging us. When the bill arrived, everything was still on it. My boyfriend asked the waitress what the manager had said, and she responded that since we didn't send the food back, the only thing that could be removed was the $11 potatoes. She then took that off the bill. At this point, we were so disheartened by the entire experience that we just paid the remainder of the bill and left. I became emotional during this entire exchange as his birthday is something I'd been saving for and looking forward to for sometime. I heard one of the other staff joking and mocking loudly about the fact that I got choked up. For $200, this was an absolute waste. It's a shame, as we had high hopes for this place, but the service and food quality left a lot to be desired.

Yelp
Hau Tree was one of our favorite dinners in Oahu! I loved the ambiance- you get to be outdoors by the beach, but still within the grounds of the hotel so it's still very comfortable and shady. We made a reservation about a month in advance because we wanted to catch the sunset. I kept my expectations for the food low since it was a hotel restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised! Some of our favorites: Focaccia Bread - this was the star! We weren't going to order it initially but caved after seeing a couple other tables order. The bread was freshly baked and piping hot. We also loved the balsamic butter it came with! Perfect spread for the bread. Roasted Potatoes - Hau Tree does their carbs right :) was very impressed by their potatoes- freshly prepared, big portion, and came with a yummy hollandaise sauce. You can ask for the sauce on the side if you want! Crab Tagliatelle - the pasta itself was only okay, but it came with a ton of crab. Was a great pasta option!

Yelp
We were recommended Hau Tree through our wedding planner, Weddings of Hawaii. We booked an upstairs private room and the balcony. The room is beautiful, the table set up was minimalistic and perfect. Our girls that took care of us were beyond amazing! I wish I could remember names but this review is a bit late - wedding was 04/24/24. The food was incredible!! Every single course we all ordered was beautiful. The drinks we chose were great. The chef kitchen staff, and servers - 100/10!! This experience was absolutely perfect. Cannot thank Hau Tree enough for giving us an incredible experience with our loved ones on our day. We will be back!

Yelp
I visited Hau Tree restaurant for the first time and wanted to see the sunset from their outside seating--it did not disappoint. The service was top-notch, and our server was super attentive. Since we had already eaten, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. Their Spanish crispy octopus was beyond words--crispy and perfectly complemented by the sauce. The drinks were good too; I had their Mai Tai, and you could really taste the alcohol. I enjoyed the service and the ambiance. Our table was in a perfect spot to watch the sunset and people-watch at the beach. I would come again for the experience and to try more of their food. The restaurant is located inside a hotel, and parking is via valet, but if you can find street parking, you're set.

Yelp
What an AMAZING INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! A++ all the way around. Our time at Hau Tree saved our overall views on dining in Hawaii. The two previous nights at the restaurants we dined at prior to coming to Hau Tree were abysmal, but Hau Tree was absolutely spectacular. The ambiance, the most delicious food, and most of all, our servers Jordan and Erin were the best. To the owners, whatever you're doing, keep doing it. You are the essence of Aloha. Dining at the Hau Tree was well worth the expense and we will be back every time we return to Hawaii. Thank you all for saving what had been the worst dining experiences at prior restaurants!

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch without a reservation and waited about 20 minutes for a table. We got a great table right next to the beach with amazing views. For food, we got their loco moco, salmon eggs benedict, fish burger, and fruit bowl. Everything was tasty but quite expensive, to be expected given their location. The fish burger is walu, which we didn't love. Service was friendly, and the ambiance is great. Not a great bang for buck but nice if you're looking for an aesthetic brunch.

Yelp
We came with party of five and got seated with a million dollar view. The menu offers variety of options and the prices are high but understandable - prime beach front location. Overall the food was OK. Nothing really outstanding. I removed 1 star for its very slow service. The food came out very slowly and so was the service. Another star removed because of the waiter. First he asked what we wanted to order and then when we started telling him, he ran away. About 10 minutes later he came back but went to another table to take their order. Yeah, it threw us off a bit but we wanted to enjoy a good brunch so we let it go and still left a decent tip despite that!

Yelp
Hau Tree The Hau Tree restaurant is situated inside the Kaimana Beach Hotel that is near one of my most favorite beaches, the Sans Souci or also known as the Kaimana Beach. With conservation measures well in place, one of Hawaii's endangered species of Hawaiian Monk seal has returned over the last few years to deliver a new pup on this beach property. I asked the hostess if there was a new pup this year and she said yes! A good section of the beach where the Hau Tree restaurant looks over, gets cordoned off so no one is allowed to disturb the mom or her pup. The hostess pointed to where we were lucky enough to glimpse mom swimming in the water near the coastline while her pup was seen several yards away, floating on another corner of the beach, camouflaged so well it was hard to tell which was the baby seal or the other rocks until he would flip over. It was so thrilling to see! Food: They are known for their Egg Benedicts. We both chose the Spinach Benedict that comes with a house salad and breakfast potatoes. There was a nice blend of sautéed spinach, garlic, harissa, chives and their version of hollandaise sauce on an English muffin. Those potatoes enjoyed some time sautéed in butter since the edges had just the right amount of crispy goodness and buttery goodness. Presented very nicely and it was most delicious. The views of the ocean and nice quiet conversation with my sister has become a tradition for us. Parking is valet, I believe, but my sister is a member of the Elks club nearby so we parked there. There is also street parking along Kalakaua Avenue and spots that are walking distance to the hotel. The wait staff personnel were very nice and accommodating. They checked on us periodically and were helpful in offering suggestions from the menu. Talking with the hostess about the very special Hawaiian Monk seal guest and her pup was a rare opportunity to share with us. Choosing the Hau Tree Lanai is the perfect place to sit and relax, away from the noise of Waikiki and enjoy the Island surroundings. Fresh local ingredients are truly presented to compliment their fresh appeal. Mama seal may be around for just a bit longer and is a rare opportunity to see such a beautiful wildlife creature and her newest member of her Ohana.

Yelp
This place is def more for the vibes and being beachfront. I had breakfast here, but it wasn't great and super greasy. The service and staff were kind. The place does get quite busy, and it's best to get reservations for a decent seat.

Yelp
Ambiance, service and view is good! I would say the prices are a little high for the food but you're also at a hotel in Waikiki so it's to be expected. My favorite thing on the menu used to be the Baby Gem Salad but they got rid of it!! So sad. I hope they bring it back. Bacon slices are a good thickness. Burger is good. Everything else on the menu is okay. Pic: Baby Gem Salad... I miss you.

Yelp
Located in one of the hotels off the Strip, it is a stunning location to have a meal in Hawaii, located on the beach. We were able to get a seat under the trees and got a view of the beach and prime time sunset! Our waitress was friendly and helfpul with recommendations for cocktails and food. We ordered the focaccia and enjoyed the butter it came with! My husband and I shared the wagyu and crab tagitalle, and both were delicious. The restaurant ambiance is beautiful and relaxing, definitely worth the views!

Yelp
I highly don't recommend this place for a Valentine's day dinner sadly :( I really wanted to like this place despite seeing some bad reviews but now I understand why they rated it so low. Weeks before the dinner: I called a couple of times beginning February to the hostess to make food restriction notes that my boyfriend doesn't like any condiments, sauces, beef, and raw fish. They informed me they put the note in the reservation so I thought everything was good. FYI, there's also $50 booking deposit to reserve your spot there. During dinner: We arrived to the dinner, the hostess greeted us, and then led us to our seat (bummed it was missing a table lamp so it was kind of dark). The atmosphere was still really beautiful and it had a really nice tropical romantic vibe. The waitress showed us the menu and I noticed it had ALL of my boyfriend's food restrictions LOL. I asked if she saw the food restriction notes on the reservation and she said she did not check so she told us to look through the ingredients on the menu and tell her which foods he can't have. I was disappointed because we would've saved a lot of time if she just read the notes. So me and the boyfriend spent 10 minutes going through the ingredients. I noticed on the menu that some dishes had raw fish and some had sauces mixed in to the food so I told the waitress is it possible to have all sauces on the side and asked if there's another food other option to substitute out the fish. She said the only option was to give him a salad, my boyfriend said no need and he will just try the raw fish. ****************** Here's what's on the Valentine's day dinner menu *Amuse bouche (complimentary not on menu small starter)- Salmon tartare cornets, avocado, topped with trout roe sesame seeds *Starter- Hamachi crudo with Asian pear, tomatillo ponzu, topped cilantro and tiny flowers *Entrée- Foie gras with asparagus, porcini mushroom, peas, with a light white hollandaise sauce. Chicken with brown butter truffle hollandaise sauce. *2nd Entrée (complimentary not on menu)- shredded chicken, topped with arugula, white hollandaise sauce, and fried chicken skins *Sides (complimentary not on menu)- Garlic rice topped furikake *Dessert- Fresh fruit coconut whip meringue & Dark chocolate raspberry crunch cake *Mignardises (complimentary not on menu small dessert)- Chocolate macaroons For drinks we didn't choose the Valentine's day wine menu so we went for the Art's mango whoospie drink that's in the booze free section in their regular menu. ****************** I really enjoyed all the meals but I was very upset for my boyfriend that he couldn't eat half of these meals. Even though we informed the waitress our requests in the beginning, it seemed that everything we said was NOT communicated at ALL to the kitchen staff and to the other waiters! For example, when they served the foie gras chicken entree, I had to stop the waiter from pouring the brown butter hollandaise sauce on my boyfriend's dish and told him to leave the sauce on the side. The foie gras and the complimentary 2nd entrée, already had white hollandaise sauce drizzled yet I told the waitress we wanted all sauces on the side?? It was very frustrating that our waitress wasn't there at all to check on us, it was just different waiters dropping our food quickly so I wasn't able to communicate to anyone at all about the dish sauce errors. The dishes my boyfriend only liked was the fresh fruit coconut whip meringue, chicken with truffle brown butter hollandaise sauce, and garlic rice. He tried to eat the hamachi but didn't like it so he only ate the pear and I just ate the rest of the raw fishes, foie gras, and the 2nd entrée dish. I gave the rest of my chicken meat and garlic rice to him since he didn't eat much. Honestly not worth the $500 chicken dinner since the service lacked and the Valentine's day dinner menu did not match on what was being served. I recommend that staff should double check the reservations if there's any restriction notes before serving the food and go over the menu's ingredients together thoroughly before we get served the meal. I felt like they didn't bother to even try to inform the cooks and staff of my boyfriend's food restrictions. It's really hard on my end to know what's on the menu for the dinner since it's a prix fixe meal so you don't know what you get until you get there. Unfortunately we will not be back here :(

Yelp
This is an outdoor restaurant next to the lobby of Kaimana Beach Hotel. It has such a beautiful view of the beach and makes for such a nice brunch experience. I got to try the crab cake benedict, shashuka and toast as well as the loaded bloody mary. The crab cake was my favorite. Its very well put together. The crab comes thru very well. The potatoes on the side were nicely seasoned. The shashuka was also nice. The buttered toast carried the sauce so well. The loaded bloody mary was good too tho i wished it had more than just 2 blocks of spam and an orange. Maybe some celery or shrimp?

Yelp
WOW! I had heard brunch is even better than dinner and I can't imagine! We started out with some Ube Pina Coladas and an espresso martini. The Ube Pina Colada is a MUST try. Soooo delicious (and healthy?) Espresso martini was good but not as good. Our appetizers were oysters and brussel sprouts. Both had a spicy little kick from the red flakes shown in the picture. It wasn't too spicy and added a fresh new taste to classics. We really enjoyed them. Both entrees were also amazing. Steak was perfect and the pasta was decadent. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She got us some flowers to take pictures with as we were watching the sunset. What a view! The restaurant is decorated impeccably. Overall, I would visit again for dinner. It is pricey but worth the splurge for a sunset view meal with amazing service.

Yelp
Lovely spot for date night or just a fancier dinner out. Came for sunset and was sat in the front, beautiful view. The restaurant ambiance is just so beautiful, simple and relaxing. Would come back just because of the view. Food was very good, they do after a tasting menu the night we were there. Service was excellent, very friendly.

Yelp
Been several times now. Twice for Christmas dinner, today for Thanksgiving dinner. Always for sunset. HauTree has the best ambience of any restaurant on the island. The trees and lanterns, with beach, ocean and pink skies are going to be hard to beat. The cocktails are incredible - tried the Ube Pina Colada, Lilikoi Margarita, and cold brew martini. Each dinner was a fixed menu - $125pp. We loved everything we ate. Service was great - attentive, wait for drinks wasn't long, food was coming out on a good cadence. Perfect date spot or for special occasions - can't go wrong.

Yelp
I frequently visit this restaurant, but I keep encountering the same frustrating issue every time. There are always plenty of empty tables ready to accommodate guests, yet we're consistently told to wait 15-20 minutes before being seated. When we finally get a table, those same empty tables remain unused throughout our entire meal. It makes no sense why we had to wait in the first place. And when we point out the empty tables, we're told they're unavailable for now, but without any explanation as to why. I find this extremely disappointing and honestly baffling. The service feels disorganized and far from welcoming. The food and the view are amazing.

Yelp
My favorite way to celebrate my birthday is with brunch! And let me tell you...THIS IS THE SPOT. * Beautiful location - practically situated on the sand in a cute boutique hotel * Fantastic food - I indulged in crab cake Benedict, who needs birthday cake with this treat? * Great service - our attentive server Michael decided I needed birthday cake LOL. Who am I to say no? Also, the crispy potatoes are SOOOOO good, we ordered an extra dish to split in my party of three.

Yelp
The Art of Pasta at Hau Tree Waikiki Beach is a unique monthly culinary experience that is a must for foodies from anywhere. You make pasta with origins that stem from 3 different regions of Italy and you get to eat it as well! You arrive to spritzers on the patio and proceed to a presentation on the pastas from Culinary Director and award winning chef Taube. His expertise in cooking and education are evident as he explains: 1. Agnolotti- stuffed sheets of pasta from Northern climes of Italy;2.Campanelle-Tuscan style extruded pasta from semolina wheat and 3. Orechiette- semolina pasta from Puglia shaped by hand. Do not fear- Chef Taube and his delightful staff have everything prepared for your education in all things pasta. Begin by donning chef aprons and washing hands to prepare orecchiette from scratch. Yes, you actually put the wheat on the counter, make a well in the middle and pour in the water. As you get an upper body workout listening to Frank Sinatra, you are in fact creating pasta with some fight to it. Your sweat and effort results in mini ears of courser semolina shaped with your hands, a rolling pin and a knife. Above all else, this experience makes you appreciate the hard work and artistry involved in pasta making. The campanelle combines semolina and egg yolks pushed through an extruder. Finally, you get to try your hand at sheeting pasta and creating ravioli style agnolotti stuffed with a truffle lemon fonduta filling. This is not as easy as it sounds. In the midst of this education, the Hau Tree staff give the students a breather as you experience Prosecco and sunset views of Waikiki Beach. Sublime! The meal itself is served on an elegant table near the ocean. Fresh focaccia is served- crunchy crust with a nice give on the inside. Next is an incredibly fresh salad with an indescribably delicious dressing. Your first course is orechiette with a dressing of olive oil, broccoli rabe and pine nuts. This was excellent! Second was the campanelle with a light tomato sauce and pecorino. Wonderful flavor. Finally, the truffle fonduta agnolotti was rich and creamy with that hint of truffle and lemon. If you can't eat everything, Chef Taube invariably produces a goodie bag of leftovers for everyone! The wine pairings for this event were excellent. Truly wonderful and unique. If you like wine with pasta, this is a must do experience! But wait- as a surprise, you get a refreshing deconstructed tiramisu for dessert! Make reservations for this monthly event online. It's informative, fun, delicious and an experience you'll never forget! Kudos to Chef Taube and staff for this culinary adventure to Italy, all without leaving Honolulu.

Yelp
Beautiful remodeled Hau Tree was a delight to re-experience. Dined there for our 35th anniversary and enjoyed an oceanside seating in the lanai. We were treated to views of Kaiwi and her newborn monk seal baby swimming in the ocean. The sunsets are beautiful from the restaurant too. Make reservations way in advance. I forgot and did the night begore and could only get a 7:45pm in the bar counter however I called the restaurant a few hours before our reservation and asked if thwy had any cancellations and was lucky to be offered a table in the downstairs outdoor lanai area! Loved the Rainbow Caviar with house made Salt and Vinegar Chips. Hubby had the Lamb Chops and I enjoyed my Squid Ink P

Yelp
Throughout this entire meal, my taste buds did a happy dance on my tongue. Not kidding, it was like a flavor rave in my mouth. This place is officially my favorite restaurant on the island. I'm so glad my partner and I chose Hau Tree for our anniversary dinner this year! Best decision ever. Absolutely every item we tried (chip and rainbow caviar, spreads and crudite, lumache pomodoro, roasted brussels sprouts, crab tagliatelle, toasted coconut cake, and their citrusly nuts about you dessert) were 11/10 all around. Such a gorgeous ambiance as well, and they seated us with the most stunning ocean view. The service was top notch all evening and they even brought out a cute little plate with their coconut cake and wrote out "happy anniversary" on it. So thoughtful! I'll keep this short and just say that Hau Tree has found a couple of regulars, that's for sure. We'll absolutely be back!

Yelp
Such a dreamy date spot for a sunset dinner! Make a reservation far in advance if you want to come for sunset hour. I made a reservation weeks before my trip to Oahu, and these dinner slots fill up FAST. The ambience is scenic, inviting, and laid-back - making it a perfect tropical date spot. My boyfriend and I loved the focaccia and pasta dishes, especially the squid ink campanelle. If you love sweet drinks that pack an unsuspecting punch, order the ube pina colada.

Yelp
First off, the ambiance here is the winner. Ambient lighting, right on the beach but not too cold, beautiful bar. Kusshi oysters: 10/10. I believe $35 for 6, but my friends and I LOVED them; we contemplated on getting more. They're already dressed too so no need to add anything to it. Delicious! For my drink, I got the pineapple jalapeño marg. It was yummy! Can never go wrong with a margarita and a cute slice of pineapple. For my entree I got the crab pasta. It was good! Nothing extraordinary but still yummy. Good texture and not too creamy which I appreciate.

Yelp
We were so excited to have our Secret Santa Brunch here... But it was all ruined the day we went to check it out and ask about parking for motorcycles. Soon as we got there-- we haven't even gotten off our bikes yet, and the valet attendant, Mel, came storming our way like he was going to pick a fight with us! We just parked closest to the first parking stall -- and although it technically wasn't a parking stall, we weren't gonna be there long... just wanted to get some info... but still, the attendant didn't have to come at us the way he did. I tried to smooth things over by saying "hello, we have an upcoming reservation here and we were just wondering about the parking for 6 motorcycles"... before I can even finish my sentence, he cuts me off and rudely says "it's valet only here, you'll have to let the valet know and they'll put your bikes in 1 or 2 stalls, it's $10 per bike, or you can take a chance parking on the street" -- just the way he was talking at us was like he just needed to boss someone around... must have some kind of complex.. That completely turned us off! Why be rude from the start?

Yelp
I loved my experience at Hau Tree. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and we loved everything. We ordered the poke cornets, rainbow cavier, wagyu striploin, and their restaurant week menu which included lomi hamachi, king prawn tagitelle, and a brownie dessert. Everything was delicious and came out quickly. The ambiance is so nice as it's right on the beach and we were able to watch the sunset. Our drinks were good as well. We got the art's mango whoopsie and 1944 mai tai and both were really good. I would highly recommend coming here. It is a little expensive but I would say it's worth it compared to other restaurants on the beach.
