The Best Places To Eat In Northridge - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Hawaiian Hot Chicken isn’t a restaurant, it’s a late-night food stand that pops up every night on the sidewalk along Reseda Blvd. Lines are definitely long (by 7:15pm, there will be 50 people posted up), but the hour-long wait is worth it. For one, they play music and the line of very hungry CSUN kids is fun to hang out in. Secondly, the chicken is very good. Sandwiched in a sweet Hawaiian bun and topped with coleslaw, pickles, and their house “volcano sauce,” it’s different than the Nashville-style hot chicken you see around town, and that’s not a bad thing. The sweetness of both the bun and coleslaw cuts through the heat of the chicken, but never overpowers the meat (or the spice). Definitely get a side order of the luau fries, too - they’re tremendous." - brant cox

Hawaiian Hot Chicken Review - Northridge - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Hawaiian Hot Chicken started as a late-night food stand along Reseda Blvd., but has now transitioned into a full brick-and-mortar a few blocks away on Lassen Street. Lines still form during peak weekend hours (when the drunk CSUN students all leave their dorm parties), but just know that the chicken here is worth the wait. Sandwiched in a sweet Hawaiian bun and topped with coleslaw, pickles, and their house “volcano sauce,” it’s different from the Nashville-style hot chicken you see around town, and that’s not a bad thing. The sweetness of both the bun and coleslaw cuts through the heat of the chicken, but never overpowers the meat - or the spice - itself. Definitely get a side order of the luau fries, they’re tremendous." - Brant Cox

Google
Great flavors!! The toast with cheese is our favorite And don’t forget the honey it’s great balance of spicy and sweet!! Highly recommend

grace m

Google
really good flavor w the hot chicken! get spice level 3 and above if you want some spice. ordered two tenders with toast and fries. added cheese but it wasnt really needed because their sauce was soo good. not a sit down place but they have a few chairs inside and a table or two outside.

Zady

Google
The food is amazing. The service is great. The ownership is ONE OF A KIND. They don't even ask for tips anymore. TIP THESE KIDS!!!! Just $1. They deserve it! Don't be a CHEAPO

Google
Accidentally had a mix up on my order and Isaiah not only took care of us, but was super professional in the process. Foods great, tastes the same since when they were operating out of the truck on reseda — 10/10 spot

Jason Taylor

Google
Great little spot! First time there we enjoyed it. Open late and customer service was cool. Good Young man

Google
Got 2 strips with fries (heat: Cryin Hawaiian) with a cold can of Dr Pepper. Strips were juicy inside with a thin crispy layer outside, the flavors were ok and it was kinda spicy. Their sauce is good but it was really salty. Washed it down with a Cold Dr Pepper. Staff was mellow.. Located in a small corner plaza with parking. Prices are ok

Google
This was my first time coming here. I saw the line that they use to have when they were set up in front of the car wash place on Reseda. Now they moved to their own little shop on Lassen and the parking lot there is very small. I got the Hawaiian Plate level 2 and level 3. If you like spicy food then get level 3, i believe level 4 is their hottest one. There fries though is by far one of the best fries I ever had. The seasoning they put on it is absolutely amazing. They already had a small line forming outside when I went to pick up my order.

Joseph Gutierrez

Google
The food took long more then 40 minutes, by the time I got home with my food it’s soggy. And the toasted bread not worth the price.

Yelp
Honest Review. (Referred by Councilman of Badminton Club CSUN) The chicken tender got the crisp. Very tender ofc. The sauce makes up for the lack of flavor which I think is intended (IMO). Fries well seasoned and crispy. Good service. Small space inside that has a table eat in/wait for your order and one additional table outside in case in you wanna chat with your friends and wait for your order. There is also music. NOTE: Damn big tenders!!!

Yelp
This place used to be great, but has really fallen off. The main issue is that they are not able to produce consistently hot food. I would understand if they gave you your food in 10 minutes and it was cold because it was sitting there, but often times I have gone and it's been a 30 to 45 minute wait and the food comes out cold. This seems to be an issue of organization in the back and a lack of any leadership/management. . From what I can see when I have been waiting, is that they get a bunch of baskets of chicken ready and then they're waiting on fries or they get a bunch of fries ready and then they're waiting on chicken. It really is a disappointment because it just seems to be purely a management issue and organizational issue. With no single person directing things they end up mistiming everything. I'm sure they could figure it out and make great food again. Last thing, I think they have inflated their yelp stats by having events at their location and giving discounts for high-star reviews (ie. a bunch of reviews from a badminton club event).

Yelp
I came to support the badminton club fundraiser hosted here. And for my first time visiting this place, I enjoyed it. Awesome tenders, some of the best actually, they are kind of big but very tasty. I love their fries, seasoned well and some can get very crispy :)) The shop is small and doesn't really have room for seating, and can get really busy at night, but I recommend.

Yelp
Great food. Awesome service by nick. It was amazing overall. The vibes were great. The sauce was good as well. Everything overall was good but overall all credits too Nick

Yelp
food was good! the slight sweetness and tang is a really great mix with the hot chicken. cheese isn't needed at all though bc the sauce is amazing! light of the spiciness so if you want some kick order level 3 and above. service was nice and had good recs. it's not really a dine in spot bit they have some chairs inside and out (only a few)
google avatar

Yelp
Wow!!! This is a little hole in the wall with the best chicken strips, coleslaw and fries!! Omg! I got the 2 Piece strips. The chicken is fresh and cooked perfect. You choose your heat. I like spicy and chose hot. Pickles and coleslaw are perfect. I'm not a bread person but the bread is delicious and a great addition.Seasoned fries are a bit crunchy and perfect. Seasoning on all is bomb. And the dipping sauce made to perfection. Service quick and efficient. Worth every penny!

Yelp
I've been going here since they used to sell it at the car wash parking. Past year or so their sauce has really been a let down. Too much salt in it and it seems like they haven't noticed it yet. Rest is still good. I would love to know when the sauce is going back to the way it was.

Yelp
We can't stop eating this place! We literally have to make ourselves stop going here. My son in particular. Our go to is the 3 chicken tender meal with fries. Level - hot. We always ask for the fries fresh and hot out of the grease. They taste better that way. This time the tenders were more spicy than normal. So they were harder to finish. We ask for extra boxes always and they give them to us with no problem. There's always great service. Always clean. Always enough napkins, forks, honey and ketchup. I love that they set them out so you can get what you need. This place is off the chain! And prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
Bf and I came to pick up an order that we got from doordash and the order took way longer than the time it said on the app. And my bf went in and asked the cashier if his order is coming soon and she went into the kitchen and yelled, "I hate when ppl ask if their order is ready" right in front of him. He didn't even asked with a mean attitude and the cashier yet seemed annoyed and said that right in his face.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had time before a campus tour and were pretty hungry, this spot looked good so we ended up trying it. We got the level 3 which is hot. It is no joke, just smelling the spice on our tenders told me that I was going to go through it. It burned my tongue and I was sweating instantly. I ended up needing a soda which I don't usually crave or get. I also debreaded the tenders after a few bites. The heat was way too intense, it gave me slight digestion issues. They had a dipping sauce which reminded me of raising canes. Honestly pretty comparable to Dave's Hot chicken in the sense of the size of the tenders. They are well worth it. I'd get these two options before raising canes. There was only a small counter against the window to eat at, and another to order very minimal that way. One wall was covered by this chicken in Hawaiian grass skirt and the opposite wall was just sharpie writing from all sorts of people. Fairly clean place and decent wait time. However there's no bathroom.

Yelp
Delicious food, I can't get enough of the fries! The owners are friendly and have great customer service! There's indoor and outdoor seating.

Wendy S.

Yelp
Good food but I ordered for delivery. I paid for an extra sauce and didn't get it. So don't order additional sauces online. They'll steal your dollar hahah.

Yelp
Our first time here, and let us say it was a hit. Ownership and staff are great, fast, and quality food. Make sure you stop by and enjoy their delicious food, local and great prices too. Seating is available inside and out, kids were blown away. Thanks Hawaiian Hot chicken for the great service and food.

Yelp
We've had this place on our list for a while now so we finally decided to try it the other day for dinner! We did not know what to expect. Parking is TINY. Super tiny, very limited, mostly 15 min. We got lucky with a 15 min spot right up front but I think you're better off parking down the street and walking. It's a very busy spot! So many online orders lined up and people walking in and out. It's a tiny spot and maybe like 1 or 2 tables outside to sit. The walls are LOUD. It's basically a collage on one side and a collage of their chicken mascot on the other LOL. The menu is pretty straight forward although we had to ask how big their meals were because we weren't sure how many pieces to order. They DEFINITELY load up the box so be prepared. It's worth your money, delicious, and incredibly fast! We took our food home to enjoy and it was so delicious. The skin comes right off and the meat is juicy. The house sauce is DELICIOUS. The cole slaw on the toast was incredible. Made my own little sandwich out of them. The fries were damn good as well and they really pack it in there. Super full box and I ended up having leftovers. Can't wait to come back!! IG: @ammysalamii

Yelp
I had been here quite a few times and it is always consistent. The hot levels only go to 5 levels, but I am always stuck on Level 1 which is light spice. I only get Chicken Tenders and Colesaw and fries. The Tenders are good but a little too hot. I like to get the basic Tenders and fries. Super fast service and Chicken is very good. Definitely worth a stop f your a Hot Nashville type of Chicken.
google avatar

Glenn S.

Yelp
Delicious chicken at any level of spicy (I go mild), incredible seasoned fries, fast service, fresh food and a nice little storefront for a casual meal. No complaints. Got lunch.... then got takeout for dinner!
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
Came here for the Codename Redtape fundraiser today and will be driving back again to get more food. The chicken was flavorful (as were the fries) and although I'm not a fan of coleslaw I ate every bit of it. The portions are huge making the prices extremely reasonable. Also, shootout to the owner for supporting CSUN students!!
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
The chicken tenders were so fresh. The seasoning on the chicken and fries is delicious. My son got the chicken sandwiches and he loved them! My mom is not big on spicy chicken but she really liked these spicy tenders. Service was great and the wait was not long. They have a cute wall if you want to take pics. Definitely will be coming back. Codename Redtape
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by today for the badminton club fundraiser! The food was delicious, and the people were friendly. I didn't have to wait long for my order. Overall, it was a lovely experience! I liked the chicken tenders!

Yelp
The food was fine, as per usual, and the ambiance of the place is fine for a restaurant you just walk into to get food (I don't ever go in there to eat). Today, however, whoever is manning the counter and online orders straight up is not paying attention to what's going on and did not make my order. Not to mention that my friend (who went to pick our food up) noticed the incompetence of whoever was working at the front and watched her spill another person's order. If the owner of the business is looking at this Yelp page, I would strongly recommend retraining your employees. They suck today. I'll keep this negative review up so others know what to look for when dealing with the incompetence of the service staff here. Sorry for being a Karen, but pay attention to both aspects of your business during the shift, please.

Yelp
My wife and I got this the other night for the first time. I ordered level 4 spicy and it was not spicy. The chicken literally had zero flavor what so ever. Many people told me this place was good. I would not recommend it

Kristen H.

Yelp
Been a long time customer, at least 5 years now. I used to recommend this place to everyone but the past few months the food and service has changed. The orders are very inconsistent and it's obvious that it's being neglected and run by a bunch of teenagers now. I consistently order a level two and it varies from no seasoning to so much seasoning that the chicken is black with it and difficult to eat. I'm so sad because this is one of my favorite spots and it's getting hard to go back because the food is becoming borderline inedible and difficult to predict. The service is also not great and items are constantly missing from my orders. Getting close to a sad goodbye from a long time customer :(
google avatar

Ri H.

Yelp
Great experience every time with Hawaiian. Love the people that work there and the food is amazing. It #BUSS every time. I will be going again.
google avatar

Alyssa Rose G.

Yelp
Want to give it a 5 but the lack of effort being put into the presentation of the food is why I wont be giving it a 5. I picked up my order and when i opened my bag to see this "sandwich" was just so disappointing. The bun barley covered the chicken and I had to basically make the sandwich myself. Im not asking for an elaborate looking to-go plate but we eat with our eyes first. Would you be excited to eat that?

Michael L.

Yelp
The food is great. When you ask for everything on the side they give like no coleslaw. Almost empty container with coleslaw.
google avatar

Erik B.

Yelp
First time here. George was helpful and genuine with his willingness to explain the menu. The chicken was juicy and the seasoning was very well. Made a mess eating because of the sauce, this was only a minor detail. Ambiance is a typical fast food type, seat, eat and go. It serves its purpose.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
The food was amazing! I got chicken tenders and fries. The chicken was nice and juicy and crispy on the outside with level 2 spice. The fries are soft on the inside and a crunch on the outside with an amazing seasoning on it. Finally the sauce it came with was really delicious!

Dominique B.

Yelp
I came here to support the fundraiser for Codename: RedTape and was pleasantly surprised by the food. The portions are big and worth the money. Will definitely come again! It was yummy!
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Always so good! With so many new hot chicken spots popping up this is the one that is always consistently good
google avatar

Elena E.

Yelp
been coming here ever since they opened this location and they have the best fries in the valley hands down. service is always quick, the staff has a sense of urgency while being respectful, and the food is consistent! ambiance is chill, order, wait 5-10 min, grab ur food and leave type place. just a heads up that parking kinda sucks on the weekends but not HHC's fault! expect to spend about $16-20 on yourself but so so so worth it
google avatar

Desiree S.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying this place! I got a sandwhich and fries with Cole slaw and sauce hot level 3 medium. It was delicious! Crispy, soft bread with the slaw and I added the honey. I really enjoyed it! I will be back to try the sliders
google avatar

Ricardo M.

Yelp
100% loved the flavor. A hole in the wall spot with cold Sprite, Coca Cola, Diet Coke, & Water. The chicken is extremely tasty and I'll definitely be back. The fries were good too but the sauce they have is perfect. Parking lot is small but I managed to get here when there was a spot. They have three spots outside that say 15 minutes parking and hope ppl follow the rules if you're picking up. They have a good amount of loyal customers too. I ate inside and they have music playing.
google avatar

Jordynn B.

Yelp
Really love how big the chicken tenders are here and the special sauce they give in a container. It's something I can save for my next meal which is great. The seasoning on the fries and chicken is like no other and I love the heat it brings (not too much either it's just right) It's a easy location to find and the food comes out fast and is still very fresh!
google avatar

Gema G.

Yelp
It was my first time trying the food here and it was soooo good ! I came because of EOHSA's fundraiser and the sauce is delicious! Customer service was great too! Definitely recommend coming here when you want a fulfilling meal
google avatar

Dennis L.

Yelp
I love chicken sandwiches and I have been wanting to try this place for a long time. I ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 tender combos spice levels 1-4. The good: 1. The chicken was soft and juicy. 2. The spice levels are spicy. I read one of the reviews that said the level 4 was nothing. The level 4 I got was burning my lips. Looked like I had lip stick after. 3. I liked their coleslaw. It has pineapples! I like pineapples on pizza so... 4. Their fries are thick. This can be good or bad. My kids like the thin and crispy fries. I like all fries. 5. Hawaiian bread for buns. The bad: 1. The sandwich sizes are kinda underwhelming. You can easily eat 2 and that would get pricey. 2. I'm a sauce guy so it might just be me but I really didn't like their sauce. I like a more flavorful sauce. This is just personal preference, so to each their own. So I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Try it out for yourself!
google avatar

Agust M.

Yelp
The food itself is ok/pretty good and better than Dave's in my honest opinion, however the wait times are HORRENDOUS. Waited upwards of 1.5 hours to get MID food (in person). Essentially, order it online to not waste your own time, but even then you might wait long. Also, their spice levels are inconsistent. I like a little spice to my Nashville chicken so I order level 3 spicy which is the only one you should order unless you really want spice. I've had a level 3 feel like a 1, and the same level 3 feel like a 4. It's hit or miss every time. Your best bet is to come later on closer to closing time. Maybe then when there's no rush of orders, you might get your food fast. At my visit today, people who ordered AFTER me got their food and left long before me. And for the long wait, what did I get? "Sorry for the wait" and lukewarm food. I've had so much better at this location but if this is how it is now, I'm hesitant to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Good old Hawaiian Hot Chicken. It been a while since I last came here since the prices got increase and the parking here is always bad. Usually what I did here before was come right when they open but now they are already business by the time they open. I got the 2 sandwich with fries combo and an hand breaded chicken tender that I placed online. The picture on their website is inaccurate for the chicken tender because it shows like maybe 2 or 3 pieces but when I ordered it, it was just 1 big piece. I got all the chicken at level 3 which is the perfect spice since it's not too spicy but has a decent kick to it. The plaza where this place is at is very small like very limited parking spots and only 2 table outside to eat there. I would recommend putting in your order online and the estimated time for pickup is pretty accurate. The employees are friendly and will answer any of your questions

Cristian H.

Yelp
There really isnt much to say other than the amazing chicken, great staff, and chill vibe. Been coming here for over 2 years and aint never had a bad experience. W spot fr ‼‼the tenders are phat asf too
google avatar

Mando H.

Yelp
The loaded fries are a must!!!!!! Roommate got the strips with fries med heat please use the honey packet in the chicken takes it next level. This place does offer different type heat but I'm a wimp can't take too much heat! Definitely a new frequent go check them out.

Kevin G.

Yelp
Literally every time I get something from here I always tend to get a tender missing once, another time I got two sauces missed too and now today I ordered 3 tenders and got 3 extra sauces on the on the side so 3 dollars more to the order and yet I only got one and usually the sauces come with the combos already great work guys :/ I even got pickles on my order when. I asked no pickles

Jia Ni C.

Yelp
I came with CSUN Badminton. The food here taste good! Tender is juicy and flavorful! I would definitely come again next time.

Dalila B.

Yelp
I went earlier today to buy a chicken sandwich and fries (Level 1 Spice) to support the CSUN Badminton Club, and it was a lovely experience! The staff were incredibly kind, the service was lovely, the food was good, and the ambiance was pleasant!
google avatar

Wendy F.

Yelp
Best fries around hands down! The chicken sandwiches are good but very small for the price. The in store atmosphere felt a bit like I was in a teenage metal head boys room, loud headbanging music and feeling unclean. I had so many ideas hitting me of what I would do to improve the business if it had been mine. it's good food but the structure around it is in shambles.

Andre N.

Yelp
Let me start off saying this place is Fire!! Always packed so please, manage time accordingly. Second, Shout out to the guy working cashier & preparing orders (Isaiah) was one heck of a worker, with excellent customer service. Really thankful for his help. Make sure y'all go check out this amazing spot!!

Shawn W.

Yelp
Drove way out of our way to have Hawaiian hot chicken today. Their posted hours say they open at 11:30 am, We arrived at 11:45am and we were told they would not be open till 12:30 today and would not serve us. Wasted our gas and time on this place. Not a good way to do business, you should honor your posted hours and not waste peoples time.

Jocelin B.

Yelp
Best food I've had in a while the service was excellent and the atmosphere was refreshing.
google avatar

Deja G.

Yelp
Do not go here if you have a nut allergy . I was super excited to try this place out so I drove across town only to place an order and find out that everything is fried in peanut oil. Looks delicious though. Owners should make the allergy warning more visible
google avatar

Aidan F.

Yelp
Simple Thieves. Best chicken I've had in the Valley, I'm definitely coming back. I reccomend the level 3 heat
google avatar

Doris R.

Yelp
Fire chicken sandwiches. A little messy to eat but idc I ate it all!!! the fries were seasoned to perfection. They also give you a big cup of their special sauce on the side which is way more than enough that I need. The chicken itself had the right amount of heat.
