Hawksmoor Bar Wood Wharf

It was a weird experience. Starting with food, we ordered two burgers asked them cut in half. Burgers were truly terrible so dry and not the burger you wish to have. Waiter upon discussion said “we’re not burger place and hence we do it very well doing for safety reasons”. Why that input wasn’t mentioned at first? 😅 Mac and Cheese was as bad too! So won’t recommend what we ordered at all but the bluecheese salad. Another random waiter was staring weirdly all the time which made me feel uncomfortable and was truly creepy. I guess staff need to be more “costumers oriented trained” because service was weird, staff was with straight face and weird attitude mismatching the hard effort put into making the place! Do the get me wrong though, it was actually fast and prompt. Place was well taken care of, I loved all details but I don’t think am coming back again.

A perfect place for an amazing Sunday Roast. The food was delicious (meat was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the vegetables were well prepared), and the desserts and cocktails were just spot-on! The staff were lovely, quick and friendly, but giving you your own space to enjoy the visit without asking any unnecessary questions. The whole vibe was perfectly balanced between high-quality, fancy and relaxed. Highly recommend!

Went here on a Sunday night with a couple of friends to have a casual catch-up. There were maybe three other tables dining and four people at the bar, so very quiet naturally given the space and the time. There was an unusually large amount of staff just looking like they needed something to do or just chatting with each other. Two people on front of house, three people at the bar and about three-four people working tables. The attitude and friendliness of the staff varied massively, unfortunately the one member of the team who served us just seemed like they didn’t want to be there or was not having a great day. They seemed exhausted at the questioned we asked (definitely not the standard of service you’d receive at a normal Hawksmoor) and refused to tell us they were out of key items like the triple cooked chips, served us standard chips and thought we wouldn’t notice? Again, this was just casually brushed off as soon as we questioned it, like having a lower cost substitution was just normal. This was food that ended up being returned since we refused it after, this also happened with a scallop dish that had been mistakenly ordered. Other members of staff seemed more happy and invested in helping but it took three asks over fifteen minutes to just get some ice. At no point did anyone ask how the food was, if there was anything else that we wanted etc. a basic level of service expected when dining out. The food itself was okay, I had the tartare, poutine and fried chicken. It was of a good standard, seasoned and hot. Nothing to rave about but good enough for a business meal. Would I go back? Unlikely. I’m sure it’s a lot better during the week but I’d rather go to a Hawksmoor if the service is going to be a lot better (and it is).

I have visited various Hawksmoor establishments in London and they have never failed. This was my first visit to the Lowback. The Lowback is located within Hawksmoor Canary Wharf. First impressions were great, has the Hawksmoor feel but slightly more casual. We visited for a roast and went for a sharing roast. This roast was incredibly, cooked well with all the trimmings. I would highly recommend the scallops for starters, the stuffing as a side was incredible. Overall the roast was faultless and the service was great. Looking forward to visiting again!

Hawksmoor is an iconic establishment known for its steaks with several branches across London. We recently visited The Lowback, the bar at its new Canary Wharf branch. The overall structure of the restaurant is quite innovative as it's a floating pavilion that bobs along with the tide. The internal ambience was amazing too with plush furnishings and rich woodwork. There was a good selection of drinks and the cocktails we ordered were creative and tasted great! In addition to their iconic steaks, the Lowback also had a selection of great starters focused on seafood. We ordered an assortment of starters, all of which tasted excellent! The service was good too. Overall, the Lowback is a really chic bar with some great food and cocktails and we'll definitely be coming back!

We went here for NYE ... AWEFUL EXPERIENCE. the staff were wonderful but there was not much they could do to save the Titanic. The food was really not worth the amount of money... For £100 per person we could have easily had a better night. The fact that the location is beautiful with such talented front of house staff makes you question what went wrong

The Lowback is the Hawksmoor's more laid-back cousin. I normally don't think much of fancy steak places like the Hawksmoor (why do they put on airs when all they're doing is warming up a slab of meat?!) so the Lowback is much more up my alley. The Sunday roast is very good. You can have it pink or well done, or if you are in a group you can have it served family-style. It comes with some nice little touches, like the chunk of roasted garlic, and the big Yorkshire pudding with a potato tucked inside so you have one left over to mop up your leftover gravy and horseradish. (They also do chicken as an alternative to beef.) However, the kitchen seemed a little slow when we visited about 14:30. It took around 30 minutes for the food to arrive from ordering and it didn't seem particularly busy. Maybe the Hawksmoor upstairs was more crowded? At least they have a selection of good cocktails to help pass the time and whet the appetite.
