Discover East Austin's hidden gem for authentic Mexican treats, featuring refreshing mango sorbets, crispy elotes, and delectable birria tacos in a cozy takeout spot.
"You can get all kinds of snacks and desserts at Hay Elotes, from fruit cups and chamoy apples to, well, elotes. Of course, there’s also a full selection of ice creams and sorbets. But our favorite dessert just might be the Mango Hill—a seemingly bottomless cup of mango sorbet studded with fresh strawberries and topped with strawberry syrup and chile limón powder. It’s refreshing enough to make you forget that you just sweat through your second shirt of the day. " - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary

"Show-stealing cups of street corn and other indulgent Mexican goodies make this East Austin snack shack’s cheesy birria de res taco offerings something of a hidden gem. Take-out can be ordered in person or over the phone. The restaurant is open for dine-in services" - Trey Gutierrez
"In the parking lot of Hay Elotes on East 7th - one of our favorite spots on the East Side for ice cream, sorbet, fruit cups, and, of course, elotes - there’s a newly-opened trailer serving birria. The whole menu here centers around birria de res, with tender, stewed beef filling everything from tacos and tortas, to mulitas and quesadillas. And, of course, ramen. Much like the other spots we’ve seen around town, a cup of Tapatío Ramen plays host to a few ladles of hot consome. Here, however, they’ve transferred it to a larger cup, allowing more space for additional toppings, like avocado and radishes." - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary
