They have the best lunch deal in the city. For $17 you get an appetizer, an entree and a drink. I'd recommend the hay hay deluxe trio - the cha siu (roasted pork) was delicious and the portions were generous. For appetizers, I was happy they offered the fried mini buns and they were very authentic. The fried dumplings were good too and the cucumber dish was refreshing if you want something lighter. Hay hay roasted is a great addition to east village.

Came here for dinner with my bestie and the portions were perfect for solo dining or to eat with your friends/family. The service was 10/10 - our server was so friendly and nice. Food came out in a timely matter. We loved everything we got. Our favorite were the fried mini milk buns (must get!!!) the wonton soup was so tasty and meaty. we loved the two selections where we chose scallion chicken & roast duck, and then other plate for the brine cuttlefish and crispy pork. The cold appetizers were so good especially the pig trotters (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!) We tried the sesame and coconut puddings which were so good and not too sweet but perfect to end your meal. It’s even better when you mix them together! Definitely recommend coming here!!

Hay Hay Roasted is one of the best places to get roast meats in Chinatown, and now they've just opened a new sit-down location in East Village. In addition to their traditional roast meats that they've perfected, they now offer new noodle dishes, rice dishes, and a whole load of small plates. My favorite small plates on their menu are the taro duck spring rolls, hay hay spicy wontons, fried mini milk buns, hay hay trio buns, and the flat dumplings. I love every noodle dish here, especially the dan dan braised pork and wonton tossed noodles. One of my absolute favorites to order is their pork knuckles over rice - sooo tender, so good, with eggs cooked to perfection. You really can't go wrong with their whole menu honestly. Love the beautiful decor here, and you can even watch the chefs chop up the roast meats if you opt for a seat at their bar area. The service here from the super friendly staff is also immaculate. 10/10 vibes, I'll definitely be back again and again!

TLDR: Pass! Most things were mediocre here. I can see why they needed the Instagram hype. I keep seeing this place show up on Instagram. So my friend and I decided to give it a try. We were lured in by the free birthday meal promotion. The space was cute with the red lantern lights and our server was so sweet. FYI 2 steps at the entrance so not accessible for mobility challenged folks. The Good: Garlic lover chicken wings 5/5- best item we tried. It was crispy and flavorful, could've used more garlic. Spicy brisket with bok choy with white rice 3.5/5- flavorful and not too bad. I didn't think it was spicy though. Hong Kong style milk tea 4/5- good and too sweet, though I could tell it was from a powder mix. The Bad: Hay Hay spicy wontons 1/5- my friend and I both did not like this at all. I found this inedible and rubbery. Roasted duck (dark meat) with white rice, bok choy, and dipping sauce 2/5- duck and sauce were extremely salty. The duck wasn't roasted well so it was still had a huge layer of fat, skin wasn't crispy, and my biggest gripe was it wasn't much meat. Also all duck is dark meat so not sure why they make a big deal out of white vs dark meat. I ended up giving my leftovers to a homeless person. I really didn't want any more of the wontons or duck meal. There was only 1-2 other tables of customers when we were here around 6pm on Thursday. The 2 single unisex bathrooms were clean. Not coming back. I will be sticking to Chinatown for my roasted meats.

First time trying out HHR and it was phenomenal. The spicy wontons were plump and juicy. The brisket noodle soup was loaded, you almost need some extra noodles. For me the star was the 3 meat combo over rice. Loved the roast duck, char sui and honey pork rib combo and the steamed bok choi was the perfect complement. You will leave there quite satisfied without breaking the bank. Our hostess, Belle, provided excellent service throughout our meal! 2024.01.26

Small “siu-lap” cantonese style restaurant. Minimal seating available with cute small lanterns hanging overhead. More for take out orders. We ordered 1/2 roast chicken and 1/4 roast duck to go. There was a line for pick up orders but it moved fast. Both meats were delicious and reasonably priced.

UPDATE: 5/26/24 - This location is closed until further notice. From Feb 2024: Usually I’d go to Chinatown for roast meat but sometimes I just can’t be bothered to go to there bc of the crowd. Glad there’s one opened in East Village! We ordered take out and I’m writing this review as I got home and tried some, and they’re really good! The roast pork is so crispy and fragrant, and the meat is soft. They have lunch specials for $16.99 where you pick a starter, main, and a drink. Had a chat with David and Cindy (presumably the owners, and a husband and wife team), and they’re really down to earth people who really care about customers feedback and aim to deliver the best for its customers. Would go back next time for dine in!

Love it! I always buy from Hay Hay in chinatown. When I found out about the East Village resturant I made plans to take a friend there for her birthday. I ordered the lunch special with duck, roast pork, chicken with veggies, curry fish balls, and Braised pork knuckle on rice. Portions are huge, food presentation was perfect. The service was friendly. The owner David was so sweet. He gave my friend a complimentary meal because it was her birthday. I highly recommend this resturant. The atmosphere was amazing as well. Very clean, well decorated and spacious. The roast duck statue at the door was the cutest. Until next time...looking forward to try the rest of the menu. I ended my day buying more food from Hay Hay in chinatown to bring back home to share with my family.

Yelp
I found out a good while that this location of Hay Hay closed and I was a bit surprised but then again, I wasn't sure how much business they were getting. This restaurant was I would say a bit too far away from St. Marks and the rest of the Chinese spots and probably would have fared off way better on St. Marks or something (but then again that likely would have cost a lot more also so whatever.) in terms of their other location if you planning on reading the old reviews here, I heavily prefer some of the other Cantonese BBQ/siu mei spots as I honestly find their Mott Street location overpriced and for some reason or another, this location actually had better deals. The other spot was also always sold out of their pipa/guitar duck and unfortunately I was never able to try it here while they were open. Staff here was pretty friendly as well and I hope they do well in other restaurants. I stopped here twice before they closed. The first time I had one of their excellent dinner specials which came with a small plate, a drink, and your choice of meat either over rice or with noodles and if they were still open, I would have heavily recommended said meat over rice. The small plate at that time was the Liangban Spicy Trotters which had some chili, a good little hit of cumin, and a chewy satisfying texture to the chopped up pork foot. The special also came with a drink and they had a very tasty milk tea being better than the usual place as it tasted more like tea than milk and was barely sweetened. The main dish was the char siu unfortunately ordered with noodles. I think I forgot that the noodles were in a tonkotsu broth which really didn't work that well. The pork was good of course and the veggies in there were fine but this place had no reason to even think of attempting said Japanese ramen broth as it was both bland and also a bit fatty and honestly just wasn't tasty outside of the excellent egg. The second time I was in a group and we shared a bunch of dishes. The best of the evening by a mile was actually not one of the BBQ meats but rather the Dan Dan Spicy Brisket/秘制香辣牛腩面 or dan dan noodles with spicy beef brisket, scallions, & seasoned vegetables. The noodles were nice and bouncy and the brisket was tender with excellent mala flavor and the veggies mostly consisted of a few pieces of bok choy which was expected as this is the usual non-sour veggie found in most dishes. The portion size was great for sharing and I would have recommended it. Two of our other bigger dishes were two of the rice dishes. The Pork Knuckles/豬腳饭 or slow cooked pork knuckles, sauerkraut, egg, and vegetables with white rice was tasty. Nicely cooked down pork which paired nicely with the pickled veggies (mustard greens) with the cooked down egg being very nice and runny almost reminding me more of a ramen egg as per before. The other vegetable was of course bok choy again. Alright was the Hay Hay Deluxe Trio or char siu, over-easy egg, and seasoned vegetables with white rice. I've had this dish from the other location and again the pork is perfectly okay but there's much better places for Chinese style roasted pork with the egg being fried a bit too much. We asked for some ginger scallion sauce as the dish was overall just a bit too dry which helped. We otherwise got the Roasted Duck/烧鸭 which was alright. A bit too bony and not as fatty as some of the better ducks such as Dai/Big Wong downtown. Our smaller plates were the Hay Hay Spicy Wontons/喜喜香辣云吞 which comes with five pieces and the Hay Hay Spicy Curry Fish Balls/喜喜乾咖哩炸魚蛋 which were both pretty standard. The wontons were the better of the bunch and were a pretty good version though they could have been a bit spicier but there was good umami. The fish balls were bouncy and alright with a decent curry. In terms of other smaller plates, the staff gave us some Fried Buns/Mantou With Condensed Milk at the end which was thoughtful and a nice way to end the second meal. The food here was pretty good. Honestly, the best thing about this place was not the roasted meats which maybe is what doomed this location but then again I don't think the siu mei is that particularly good at either location. The value was outstanding and it was certainly better than the other Cantonese spots in the area but that wasn't saying much. Mid 3

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Saturday with two others. I was attracted to this particular location from all of the Instagram posts I keep seeing. They do have a Chinatown location, but this location by St. Marks Place is unique because there is dining service. They had lunch specials ($17) where you got to choose an appetizer, an entree, and a drink. Super affordable and filling. The following was ordered: Fried Mini Milk Buns Wonton Noodle Soup Honey Lemon Curry Fishballs Dan Dan Spicy Brisket Ribena Honey If the lunch special options do not appeal to you, there's also the Rice w Three Selections ($14), which is also a really good deal that's filling and delicious. I got the following and loved them. Roasted Duck (White Meat) Scallion Chicken (White Meat) Crispy Skin Roasted Pork

Yelp
Glad that this place opened so I don't have to go to Chinatown for BBQ meat. Their Chinatown outpost is too small, and is only great for takeout. This one is great for eating in. It's a bit interesting that all their servers are not Chinese. The menus also don't have a lot of Chinese, and some items aren't very clear in English. I asked about some of the items, and the servers were not sure about them. For example, an app that's not described as spicy on the menu was super spicy, I mentioned it to the servers and they said "oh it shouldn't be" and that's it. The noodles were also weird - I asked the server what noodles they should be, I was told "wonton noodles" but we were given rice noodles instead, and in pork broth, which was a weird combo.

Yelp
I went to the location in China town which has no dining space left right away, to go to the LES location is the one with nice tables and big space. Tried the fatty guitar duck, wow blew me away. Fatty as described and well seasoned. The regular pecking duck is always delicious less fatty. The milk buns were interesting, it's not brioche but it's fried dry dough with condensed milk. The char siu wonton noodles were delicious. I realized the charsiu would be something I'd get again it was soooooo good. Overall they just opened so the service was a bit all over the place. Nice people, just a lot of confusion. I would come again!

Yelp
I came back again! Honestly such an amazing and authentic spot, and very friendly. Our waitress was sweet and had no issues with us or my friends daughter - very child friendly! It's spacious and not too noisy. We got honestly the same things - a quarter duck, the dry noodles with char siu and wonton, and the fried buns. My friends daughter loved the fried buns. Will def be back again!

Yelp
WOW! Hay Hay Roasted is a real triple threat: great food, great prices, and great service! We had their two item combos, and the portions were incredibly generous. Highly recommend the crispy skin pork, but you can't go wrong with any of their meats. I can't wait to go back; it was SO delicious.

Yelp
Look for the DUCK! Came here upon landing for a nice quick meal of roasted Chinese bbq. We did not expect the quantity and quality to rival even Houston! We got the three meat noodle and three meat rice and oh man it was filling and delicious Duck was a little skinny but the char siu and the roasted pork belly were delicious The noodle form was good but I should've opted for the rice plate. The soup made the meats wet and lost their crunch. Do try! The curry fish balls are a must try. The sauce was crack!

Yelp
Food: Classic Chinese roasted meats. Lately I find that the duck in butcher shops are very fatty, but was pleasantly surprised that the cuts we got here were well balanced between fat and meat. Service: No complaints on the service. Traffic was light when we went so there were plenty of waitstaff available if we needed anything. I did have a question on portion size if we ordered a la carte vs. combo and our initial waitress couldn't answer so another person stepped in. Ambiance: Clean and neatly decorated. Thankfully the tables are nicely spaced so you're not on top of someone else. The bathroom was clean as well and I love that they have bar seating available for solo diners - I think it's a good use of space. The advantage of this place vs. the Chinatown location is that you can dine-in instead of having to do takeaway and finding somewhere to eat it. However, I do find that the way this location is run is more westernized and prefer the Chinatown location overall.

Yelp
Keeping it real here in The East Village. I had the opportunity to dine at the seated version of the beloved Hay Hay Roasted, with its original store located in Chinatown. All the original roast meats are served here, and they're on point, tasting even better in my head due to the attractive plating and presentation. The new small plates are fire! The interior decor is on point as well. The bar and the back area provide a good view of the open kitchen behind a glass wall. The staff is full of energy and very eager to serve. Also they got two whole bathrooms! The grand opening day is about to be crazy, and I can't wait to return.

Yelp
The best roasted duck in the city!!! I first knew about this place because I used to pick up roasted duck from their Chinatown location and was so excited when I found out they opened this sit down restaurant in East Village. - Food: I got the two selection with roasted duck (light meat) and scallion chicken (dark meat). It was so good and juicy. The roasted duck had a nice crispy skin and both meats came with their own sauces. It also comes with a side of bok choy. - Service: Excellent wait staff! Very attentive, always making sure my glass was never empty, and really friendly. Some of the best staff I've encountered in nyc restaurants. - Setting: Clean restaurant with lots of seating, both bar and table seating. You get to see all the meats being made which is pretty cool. - Bonus: They have a really good lunch special going during the week for both dine in and takeout. Overall: Absolutely loved this restaurant! Will definitely be back and telling my friends about this place. There are a lot of other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood but this is one of my favorites.

Yelp
This new location is lovely inside in terms of decor and culture! The roast meats are delicious and taste just like the Chinatown spot. However, everything is overpriced here because it's in a gentrified are. While the Chinatown location is definitely more "Chinese", you wouldn't get that same vibe here as majority of the staff are not Asian. In terms of the food, the noodle dishes are okay. I got the Dan Dan Braised Pork and it could have had some more flavor and a sauce to bind it all together. The Spicy Wontons are delicious and have lots of filling. And of course, all the roast meats like Roast Pork, Pipa Duck, Scallion Chicken, etc are all amazing. The staff are very friendly and kind, but if you were to come with your Asian family who may not speak English, the wait staff wouldn't know Chinese and be able to communicate with non-English speaking patrons. I would say go to the Chinatown spot as a local, but if you're in the area, you can get a good meal here too.

Yelp
I eat my delicious leftovers as I write this review. My cousin passed by this place MONTHS ago when he was in town, and it's been salivating in his mind ever since. We finally made a visit on Mother's Day. We chose to order take-out, but the place is sooo cute, I would love to come back just to eat inside. You're greeted by a warm aroma and an amusing giant roast-duck statue when you enter, which speaks to the place's personality. And the woman at the register was SO FRIENDLY and patient with us as she explained the difference between the different types of duck and took all of our separate orders. Even the pictures on the wall look mouth-watering. I'm a VERY picky eater, and the first picture on the wall, a dish with some tender-looking meat that I wanted to point to and say, "Give me that, whatever it is." AND they got LOLLIPOPS at the register. BONUSSSS. The prices are super reasonable, and the portion sizes are awesome, especially when you can get double/triple meat options. We tried to get a little of everything, roasted duck, guitar duck, char siu...I also ordered the honey roasted chicken wings but I think those got lost in the mix and we didn't realize until we'd brought the food home. However, I'll give a pass because the food was every bit delicious as we anticipated. My guitar duck (which has a crispier skin due to how its prepared) had this amazing sauce (separate from the soy sauce they give you in the little containers). The pork was good too, but we came here for the duck and were not disappointed. Even the RICE was top-tier. Everything was amazingly tasty. I have a feeling this place is going to be added to the rotation.

Yelp
Reliable new opening in East Village -- although I missed the weekend lunch specials that came with its soft opening, I came away from Hay Hay Roasted satiated. Space: Clean and modern, accessible to the train. Kpop background music. Service: Friendly! Food: Reasonably priced. Each dish was less than $20. The Dan Dan Braised Pork utilized a type of noodle I've never had w dan dan dishes, but I liked it. Cold, refreshing, w juicy slices of pork. I made the mistake of adding too much chili oil and thus drowned out the natural flavoring of the raw ingredients. Hay Hay Deluxe Trio was a nice assortment of veg, rice, and meat. I liked the char siu most -- chewy and sweet, with a nice rind.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! Was able to be seated quickly on a Saturday night. Service was great. Interior is nicely decorated and inviting. Definitely will return!
google avatar

Albert A.

Yelp
We will be back! This one is going on the list of greats in Manhattan. You get such an amazing deal for just $20 -- an appetizer (a SUBSTANTIAL one), an entree, and a non-alcoholic drink (higher-priced combo options for alcoholic drinks). So obviously the value here is great. Service is kind, courteous, attentive, and a bit energetic. The space is elegant, but casual -- perfect for a nice night out. The decor is nice, but I wouldn't call it a "date" spot. Garlic Wings (Appetizer) - These wings were just so good. I would definitely order them again the next time I come. The garlic flavor is strong! And the wings themselves were crisp and well-seasoned. This dish was delicious. Roasted Combo with Char Siu and Guitar Duck - The char siu turned out to be exactly what I was craving -- rich, tender pieces of pork with a slight sweetness. This dish had plenty of it. The duck was also very good. Fully aware of the bones in this dish (I ordered dark meat and they caveated saying there were bones), I somewhat struggled to eat the duck. Not the most fun, but still tasty. Would be exceptional if they could get the meat off of the bone for plating. Both of these meats were served in a flavorful noodle soup. Value: 5/5 Quality: 5/5 Quantity: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Yelp
I had their lunch special which came out to 16.99 for a app main and drink included that for a meal in east village is a great deal. I also had a birthday deal so it was 16.99 for a meal for 2 making it an even better deal. Apps the highlight was the flattened dumplings they had regular dumpling filling but had an extra crispy crunchy skin that was very nice. They also gave a very good portion I also had the spicy fish balls which was very authentic to the original dish in taste and presentation. For the mains I had the wanton soup with the bbq pork. The noodles were extra bouncy with a good chew. They were cooked a perfect al dente with a perfectly seasoned broth that was perfectly balanced adding a depth of flavor without being overly salty. The wantons were soft and pillowy with the perfect meat chunk. The bbq pork was a highlight that was both sweet and savory. Hay Hay specialty is the bbq meats so I would return to try other meats as well. The service was very good and attentive not bringing out the nxt course till we were done with the current course. The lemon tea was authentic to the recipes found at cha cha tengs The ambiance is the main difference between this location and the og chinatown location. The place is nice clean and chic with a plentiful and ample seating room.

Bonnie T.

Yelp
This place seemed rather promising due to good reviews and enlarge space right in East Village--however, it felt a little more like a letdown. Duck was fatty enough, but lacked depth of flavor. It was not salty enough and just didn't taste very flavorful at all--I almost feel that any random deli in Chinatown would've been better. The roast pork was also lack luster in flavor. Tasted very muted, although maintained some crunch on the skin outside, which I appreciated. It needed the sauce, although it didn't do much more. Dan Dan noodles were okay. Overall everything here lacked flavor--I wouldn't return unless the really boosted everything in that regard. Place is very spacious, fancier, and allows you to watch the food preps take care of your meal. The ambiance is comfortable and nice. The staff here seem to be on the newer side so they didn't take our orders super well, but all is well. Think I'd rather walk closer to Chinatown for roast protein.
google avatar

Han C.

Yelp
Tasty! I love that you can specify white or dark meat for the proteins. For duck, ALWAYS get white meat. Duck is all dark meat anyway, and it would guarantee you the delicious breast pieces. Ordered the three meat plate with rice to try more roast meats, and unfortunately the roast pork was out ;( but tried the char siu which was pretty good. The duck will and always be my favorite. The chili wonton appetizer was also delicious. My mistake was not ordering the dinner special, so keep scrolling on the website and look for the saved bundles at the bottom!

Yelp
A really lovely, clean space. It was almost completely empty when I stopped in for a quick lunch. The waitress was so nice! Friendly, asked me about the book I was reading, just really nice. Got the lunch special (16.99 for app, main, tea pouch). The food was all so great! Loved the curry fish balls (kinda felt like a lil bit of a Thai spin to the curry sauce). The roast pork noodle bowl with wontons was great, though my roast pork was not really warm, in fact it was kinda cold BUT it tasted great. Loved the fruit tea it came with. Can't help but feel like the normal prices is in the expensive side for what you get. It's a more expensive neighborhood though so what are ya gonna do. Def check it out, get more for less at lunch!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
I got the lunch special that came with an appetizer, drink and entree. They only offered cold drink with the meal. I asked if I can get the drink hot instead. He was so nice and told me he is able to accommodate. The noodle was aldente. Similar to HK noodle shops. The wontons were not what I expected. It was made mostly of shrimp paste rather than small pieces of shrimp. It was still good but the texture is not the same. Everything was clean, food was good, service was excellent. I will definitely come back.

Yelp
This place is sooo cutee !! They have this huge duck statue when you walk in that is absolutely adorable !! The duck is soooo moist and flavorful and the price is unbeatable!! You get great portions for the price and the flavor is spot on. I loved everything I had especially the duck !

Yelp
We order three orders of the combo, trying what they have to offer. Food: could have gotten 5stars if it was for one of the plate with mostly bone duck with barely any meat. Crispy pig/pork is great! Soy chicken was juicy. Ginger scallions chicken was equally as delicious. Order some duck and chicken for the next day and still good! Service: the lady repeated our order we corrected, and still got it wrong. But they replaced it so no harm no foul. Ambiance: nice and clean!

Yelp
We went during the grand opening period of this new location. It's clean, spacious and nicely decorated. I've never been to the original Chinatown location but I can guess that this one was their upscale take. I believe that the East Village menu is a more pricey than their Chinatown one. However fancier this one is, they still don't have great vegetarian options. My veg friend settled for the sweet milk buns and a beer for his dinner. I ordered the Dan Dan braised pork noodle. I could not fully appreciate the tender & flavor meat or perfectly jammy egg due to the obvious fact that this dish was not Dan Dan Noodles. I wouldn't even classify them as Dan Dan sibling noodles. There was neither a hint of chili nor a trace of nuttiness. It was rather oily. More similar to a scallion oil noodle. Idk what this dish was trying to be but it was not what I was searching for. Someone out there will love this dish. But unfortunately they may never order it due to this egregious mislabeling. I'll still come back to try their different meats though.

I came here with my sister and it was the perfect day! It was cold and misty outside so it was a perfect day for broth, noodles and duck! The service was excellent and we are looking to return to try more great food from the menu. Thank you for your hospitality!

Yelp
Food is good. I haven't to admit this place has really good ambiance. Service was good because we were the only ones here at dinner. Most likely due to the cold weather and also because they just open a month ago, but it was good. The presentation was good. Food here tastes a bit better than the one in Chinatown but it is a little pricier compare to the Chinatown location.

Yelp
Definitely not impressed with Hay Hay Roasted. Was initially excited to see a Chinese bbq meats place in East Village, but this was not what I expected. The meats were dry, ordering was messy, and service was lacking. Yes, this place is nice and clean and modern-looking with sufficient seats. However, the main attraction, the meats, were not good. The fried buns with condensed milk were okay though.

Yelp
Hay Hay Roasted recently opened an East Village location!! Everything we had was delicious, my favorite item was the char siu pork. Will definitely be back to try more menu items.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with my bestie and the portions were perfect for solo dining or to eat with your friends/family. The service was 10/10 - our server was so friendly and nice. Food came out in a timely matter. We loved everything we got. Our favorite were the fried mini milk buns (must get!!!) the wonton soup was so tasty and meaty. we loved the two selections where we chose scallion chicken & roast duck, and then other plate for the brine cuttlefish and crispy pork. The cold appetizers were so good especially the pig trotters (don't knock it until you've tried it!) We tried the sesame and coconut puddings which were so good and not too sweet but perfect to end your meal. It's even better when you mix them together! Definitely recommend coming here!!

Yelp
Found this place on a rainy day to boost the spirit. The lady working at the front was super inviting and very warm. I loved talking to her as she was very friendly and helpful with the many questions I asked her. She was so cute and I can't wait to visit again because of how amazing and efficient the service was. the food also came out super fast upon ordering, and the waitress was very attentive to my table. she often filled our empty water cups and was honestly honestly really fun to talk to! I was also amazed at how clean and pretty everything was. I use the bathroom and it was extremely luxurious for a New York City bathroom. It felt very clean and very well kept. Additionally, the decorations seemed brand new and expensive. A super cohesive. Look to everything that makes it feel like an expensive Chinese restaurant. With all of these amazing things, which shocked me the most, was how amazing the prices were. For the amazing quality of food, taste, and quantity, the meal platter was only $20. That came with an appetizer, a main dish, and their delicious lemonade tea, which seems to be made in restaurant. For a food establishment, the drink tasted as good as something you'd get from a Boba store. I didn't take a picture of it, but it was the magenta colored lemonade. So delicious! I'm Chinese and I eat this type of food all the time. This was really good quality and I would take my immigrant Chinese parents to eat here. Still shocked on how amazing everything was and the prices. Thank you so much I'll definitely be back again when I'm craving some Chinese food!

Yelp
Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Food: 5/5 I will start with the duck. The amount of ducks hanging and duck pictures and display items.. I just knew I had to get the duck. I got a fourth only because I knew that I was going to order a lot and I wanted to make sure I saved enough room for everything. I ordered 6 bao buns on the side but I should've asked for vegetables and hoisin along with it, but nevertheless, the duck was phenomenal. I will say, however, I wish that there weren't bones/cartilage in the duck, and it would've been perfect all around. But that didn't take away from me eating it, or the flavor. The bao buns were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed every second of it. The spicy wontons, I loved so much, I wanted them to be spicier so I added the additional chilli oil that was on our table. The soy sauce eggs, were good. I dont know why but I had wished they were room temp or warm, instead of cold. The cucumbers.. omg. I ate half of the bowl a the busser accidentally took it.. so the manager was kind enough to get me another bowl and I ate the whole thing by myself. It was that good. The brisket was very tender and flavorful, my boyfriend thought it was too rich in soy sauce flavor but I thought it was perfect. The only thing I would've wanted differently was steamed/hot bokchoy around the plate. But the rice was nice and fluffy. The hot black sesame soup for dessert was wonderful. I found it to be so good I drank it from the bowl like it was milk after eating cereal. The coconut panacotta was good too, very light, great texture.. but I preferred the black sesame more.. personally. I also ordered the milk buns for dessert and they were cooked to perfection and the hot condensed milk was the icing on the cake.. literally. It reminded me of the sugar chinese donuts I get at buffets back home. Overall, I can't wait to come back!!! This will forever be a go to spot when visiting New York. Shout out to the manager for the wonderful hospitality and impeccable service by staff. Bathroom and restaurant were very clean, everyone was in good spirits.. My last dinner in New York for this trip will most definitely be a memorable one.

Yelp
Quality. Choices abound making a return imminent just to work my way down the menu. Huge variety of small and large plates. The roasted meats are a signature. Go for the tonkatsu accompaniment. It offsets the traditional room temperature style of the roasted meats, on a winter's night. The duck, chicken, pork or cuddle-fish are then served in the hot pork bone broth. Also, it included wonderful fine noodles and vegetable. The delicious flavors of the meats then find their way into the soup. Also abundant variety of drink choices, both alcoholic and non. The atmosphere is charming. The counter puts you in touch with the prep. Alternatively, there are many areas to feel more intimate, but festive.

Yelp
Had been a regular since they opened. The staff was super nice and the roasted meat quality is very consistent - juicy and meaty. You can even tell them if you prefer the leaner side or the fatty side. Wood Ear Mushroom Salad - I always get this so that I can feel better eating veggie. The truth is, the mushroom is so well-seasoned and enough spicyness and made me feel whole... Wonton Tossed noodles - super generous with the wontons and chaisiu. The soup that came with it tasted like fish-boned soup. So good. They are offering a lunch special which i found is a really great deal. Will order it every week! All their roasted meat is good.

Yelp
We tried the roast pork, cuttlefish, flat dumplings, broccoli, and the HK style milk tea. The HK style milk tea comes in a bag which is really cute and a different design compared to what I'm used to. It was interesting seeing a Chinese Barbecue menu in a different manner with clear cut pictures and descriptions, making it very easy to order for people who can't read Chinese. One bowl of rice is enough for 2 people. The bowls are huge! The roast pork and cuttlefish were really good. First time trying the flat crispy dumplings and they were okay, I think I still prefer normal soft dumplings. Just not something I was used to. Service was attentive, our waiter was very nice. Surprised there weren't more patrons on a Sunday evening! I would love to come back and try the different chicken options and roast duck another time. The only downside was that we were seated kinda close to the door and it got pretty chilly halfway through our meal. Afterall, we did pick this place because we wanted to sit down and enjoy the meal as opposed to doing takeout. Hopefully next time around, we're seated further into the restaurant.

Yelp
Love the beautiful decoration here. Highly recommend their small plates & roast meats items, special the wood ear mushroom salad, Liangban spicy trotters, roasted duck, char siu and crispy skin roasted pork. The staffs are amazing and super friendly. Definitely be back again and again.

Yelp
Honestly a solid spot if you're just craving some chicken + rice or duck + rice. Prices are decent and lots of space for big parties. The apps were great and honestly I think the chicken might've been better than the duck but both had good flavor (duck was maybe a bit too oily and too much bone for me). Would recommend at least trying!

Yelp
Imagine your fav Asian dishes that you get at every establishment combined into one. Spicy wontons, fried milk buns, cucumber smash, and Dan Dan noodles were delicious! Everything was flavored well with lots of spices that is a plus if you like spicy!! If you don't like spice, they can use a little less (for the cucumber salad). This is also a great spot to drink and eat a little bit before spending a night out. They have really good combo deals that includes beer, wine or sake. Very great spot and I would love to come again for a random casual night out. Service was really great. The servers were very helpful when we had questions and were attentive when we needed something. Also love the ambience of the restaurant. Normally a Chinese barbecue meat spot is very casual and normally a to-go spot, but this is definitely somewhere that I can sit and enjoy my time for dinner.

Yelp
My friends and went here about a week ago. For appetizers we had garlic lovers chicken wings, Hay Hay Spicy Wontons, cucumber salad and the Hay Hay Bun. Everything was very flavorful. When the Hay Hay Bun came out, there was only 1 but on the menu the picture shows 3 buns. The waiter told us each order is for only 1 bun. Although the picture was misleading, we didn't make a big deal about it. To our surprise they did bring us 2 extra buns at no extra charge. So kudos to them for excellent customer satisfaction. For entrees we had the scallion chicken, crispy skin roasted pork and the honey roasted pork ribs which were all very good. Great food, nice decor and very friendly and helpful staff so a very nice dining experience overall. Will be back to try some more dishes soon!

Yelp
Everything was okay, nothing really stood out. The cucumber salad had too much vinegar sauce but the woodear salad was good. The lemonade juice in bags were good

Yelp
Lunch special is a great deal and can honesty be two meals or a 1.5meal. $16.99 comes with appetizer, entree and drink. I got the cucumber salad and the portion was much larger than I expected. For the entree I got the toss noodle with wonton and roast pork and it came with a side of soup as well. It came with 3 wonton that I put in the soup and it became a bowl of wonton soup. The wonton are yummy with nice bite. The roast pork was very yummy as that is their signature dish and good portion. I packed the remaining roast pork noodle and cucumber to go. Belle was my server and she was super nice and attentive.

Yelp
I ordered the wonton noodle soup, duck taro spring rolls, and wood ear mushroom. I am so glad I made it out to this East Village outpost. It is a larger sit down restaurant with more dishes than the original location. I have been craving wonton noodle soup and this hit the spot! Smooth wonton filling with smooth wrapping. You can see the quality shrimp inside. I would like to request having white pepper to the wontons..old school style. ;) The spring rolls are crispy and tasty. A suggestion is that since taro can be dry ( not the duck, the duck was moist) it is possible to add a sauce or other ingredient to balance the taro. The wood ear mushrom was reall well seasoned and so good. I could taste garlic, vinegar, and cumin seed (?). I ordered a whole duck and a large brined cuttle fish to go. The cuttle fish is well salted and will go great with some rice. The duck had such a good crisp and was juicy, perfectly cooked. I appreciate that they carefully took out that gland that makes ducks "stinky". I have had a place not do it or not well and it ruined everything. The staff was kind and attentive. I think even the owner checked in on me when she saw I was looking for my server. The design is nice with red lanterns and choice of hammered metal bowls, dishes, and silverware. There are two large single restrooms. A random thing I love is that there are mix of workers..looks like all these different cultures working together and all people enjoying their meals. I appreciate that. There was a long line today on opening day ( as expected) but I am sure staff will continue to iron things out ( if any issues). Everyone was enjoying themselves with food photos ( takes more time). All in all, it was a very smooth grand opening. Wishing you the best of luck!!

Yelp
Hay Hay roasted nyc at 167 First Ave , NYC brings in traditional classic roasted /BBQ meats with variety of house special dishes to choose. Yelp
Such an underrated restaurant. Food is delicious, hearty, well-balanced and reasonably priced (especially their combos), atmosphere is casual but modern, and staff is friendly and attentive. Quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite restaurants in New York and highly recommend to anyone in the East Village. Highly recommend the Trio with some tea!
