Where to Find the Best Salads in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"The hearty choice? Always a steak salad. Haywire offers a solid one with everything you’d expect it to have: avocado, pickled onions, Fresno peppers, corn, tomatoes, queso fresco and croutons. The surprise is the charred tomato vinaigrette, which makes for a unique dressing." - Courtney E. Smith

This was an exceptional dining experience. Robert was our server and was great. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the Pork Chop. Enjoyed a drink and the ice cube was inscribed with their logo. Nice touch. Very clean bathrooms. Overall excellent.

We tried this place recently for lunch and had a good experience. We parked in a garage that has an elevator that opens into the restaurant. They validate the parking, but even after following the steps, we still had to push the button for the operator to let us out. The place is massive. They have several seating areas as well as seating at the spacious bar. We started with the chips and queso. The queso was delicious. My wife ordered the chicken fried chicken and I ordered the Western burger. Both had great flavor. The portion sizes matched the price. The breading on the chicken fried chicken came off as my wife cut it, but it still was good. Our service was great. We will definitely be back.

Google
We revisited yet again for happy hour! The pork belly bites were absolutely a hit, as are the sliders! Oh the one thing you must try is the whiskey bread pudding! It is the best I've ever had! We returned for happy hour! Oh my! A great experience again! The frozen long island teas were 👌. The service was amazing again! I love haywire! Thank you! Beautiful, Amazing, Delishous, Great Service, Awesome Menu, Great Drink Menu. I will be back! Thank you for an awesome experience!

Google
This was the first time visiting. The decor was truly nice, and there was something interesting to look at in every direction. The fried green tomatoes were one of the best I've ever had. I don't ever like toppings or sauces with my fried green tomatoes, but I ate every bit of it. My filet was so tender that I didn't need a know to cut it. We kept swapping with each other because we liked everybody's order. To top the night off I ate the pecan pie. Yet again, it was one of the best things ever. The problem with some pies is that it can be too sweet & the crust sometimes crumbly & bitter. The pie was just perfectly sweet. I would recommend you ask to have it warmed up. This place will be a go to spot for date nights & bring my friends.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Outstanding! We had an amazing experience at Haywire in Dallas! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our server, Leah, went above and beyond—her service was impeccable! She not only took great care of us throughout the meal but also gave us some fantastic recommendations for sightseeing around Dallas. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were perfectly crispy and full of flavor. For the main course, we went all in with the Cowboy Feast—and wow, it did not disappoint! Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were bold and satisfying. This was one of the highlights of our trip. If you're in Dallas, Haywire is a must-visit—and be sure to ask for Leah!

Went to celebrate my dads birthday & he was mind blown! He loved his food so much. Our server was amazing too! Food was great! Will be back

Google
The elk meatloaf was ok. The Mac and cheese was good. The green beans were undercooked. The cornbread is fire! I had the best mock tail I’ve ever had. The mojito refresher was super good! Atmosphere is great too!

Yelp
I knew Haywire wouldn't let me down for a Texas-style lunch with the future in-laws from out of state. We ordered an appetizer and 3 dishes to share so everyone could try everything. These portions are pretty generous, so it was just perfect for all four of us without leftovers. \\ elk tacos - comes with 3 tacos but our server offered to make it 4 so we could each have one--i don't remember if we were charged extra but better than having to order two orders for 6 total--it was so thoughtful! - the meat was well seasoned and not gamey - loved the fresh microgreen garnish \\ baby back ribs - the meat actually fell off the bone - appreciated the extra sauce on the side so we could add more if we wanted - 6 ribs so good sharing size for our group of four \\ chicken fried steak - delectably crunchy on the outside and tender Texas wagyu on the inside - served with savory mashed potatoes and juicy green beans that had a good snap to them \\ shrimp and catfish - this completed our surf and turf experience--the grilled shrimp were large and made a strong impression on the eye and palate - the catfish was also tender and juicy There was a garnish on everything, so over the complex savory and sweet flavors, there was a distinct aromatic chive flavor that seemed like a Haywire signature--some may like it, and some may want a dish without it. We walked because we stayed nearby, but there's an underground parking garage with validation. Overall, great flavors, friendly service, and fun Texas-style decor that amused us. We went for a walk through Klyde Warren Park and the DMA after lunch to digest because it was all so close. Would recommend as a date idea for a significant other or friends!

Yelp
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making it a nice spot to grab a meal and a drink. The drinks were well-made, with a good selection to choose from. I chose the espresso. It was good. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which made for an enjoyable dining experience. Overall, it's a good place to unwind with good food, drinks, and a casual vibe. I'd definitely go back!

Yelp
Fantastic spot. In a nice area surrounded things to do. The food is phenomenal. I went with a group of 15 people and half the table ordered rib eye and everyone loved it. The pecan pie is one of the best ones I've ever had, I'd go back just for that but the steak is the best I've had in a long time too. It's a must go to restaurant Service was great and did a great job handling a table of 15. I'm looking forward to eating here again.

Yelp
My friend told me about this place and said I had to give it a try. Loved the vibe, very swanky. We got a burrata and heirloom tomato starter that was DELICIOUS! Zero complaints on that one! For my main, I ordered the petite filet with the tallow fries. Those fries.....absolutely scrumptious. Wouldn't kick them out of the bed for eating crackers. We got the bread pudding for dessert and OH MY GOODNESS was it good! THE ONLY ISSUE was I ordered the petite filet medium well. When took the first couple of bites, everything was fine. When I started eating more of it, it was a bit closer to medium rare. The staff was VERY nice and did offer to make me a new steak. I did decline because I was I starting to get full. I'm definitely planning on getting it again because it was really good!!

Yelp
Haywire is a trendy spot in Uptown Dallas that our hosts took us to. It's a cool and classy environment with a slight Western theme. The service is fast and friendly. As for food, there were some standouts and letdowns. We started with the mini elk tacos. They were good, but nothing that is going to leave you drooling for more. The burrata and tomato dish was next, which was about what you'd expect but a tad lacking on the amount of burrata and the tomatoes might not have been quite ripe as I've never had such trouble getting a fork through a tomato as this. For mains, I opted for the prime rib and chimchurri rice. Neither held up well. The rice was interesting, but a little bland. The prime rib was well below average. It was borderline cold upon arrival with very little seasoning/crust to speak of. The only thing to help it have some flavor were the horseradish and their homemade steak sauce (which was fantastic). Luckily, things ended on a high note. The whiskey bread pudding was solid and everyone raved about it, but I'm going to tell you that if you visit... get the Route 66 Pecan Pie. It is one of the best desserts I've ever had and while I do love pecan pie (yes, there is a bias), even those who don't in our group spoke highly of how buttery and rich it was. It's a can't miss IMO! Overall, was disappointed with Haywire but the dessert kept this thing in a 3-star range.

Yelp
Came here with some friends and decided to get a tomohawk steak platter. It was pretty good we asked for everything to be cooked medium rare but it was really rare on the tomohawk and the strip. The filet was cooked well on the left side. We didn't mind too much but when spending $250 on a platter it would have been nice to have it at the temp we requested. Also the water here tasted grassy it wasn't good. Everything else was decent we had a good server and we liked the ambiance of the restaurant.

Yelp
This is a lovely establishment that has a rustic southern charm while also still providing a fine dining experience. We loved everything about this place. Great drinks, great food, and great ambiance. We dined for brunch and the food did not disappoint. And our server was so great with the kids in our party. I would personally not bring my kids for dinner because it seems like an adult only establishment in the evening, but during the day the kids were fine.

Yelp
I took my husband here for a special occasion during our vacation with our daughter. He wanted some place a little bit upscale, but sticking with the southern bbq theme which dominated our vacation. The ambiance is upscale rustic with dim lighting without being considered romantic. It was definitely a cool feel. Our server was very nice and attentive answering our questions and even playing with our toddler. Kids were definitely welcome here even though it clearly wasn't their marketed crowd. We sat at a booth and ordered a few drinks and appetizer to start. We got the fried green tomatoes. They were absolutely delicious! The breading was crispy and the bacon jam enhanced the salty/savory flavor profile. We were incredibly surprised by how good they were. For my entree, I got the baby back ribs. They were fall off the bone with smokey, savory flavors. It was very good. It was very good and came with sides of cornbread and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was standard good, but the cornbread was delicious. The perfect pairing of sweet and savory while being moist. It was very good! Plus, you got all that food for around $23. I was left feeling very full. During our dinner, I had to use the bathroom and everything was clean and well maintained. You know if the bathrooms are clean, they must care about cleanliness. We were very happy with our time here and I recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Stopped by for weekend brunch and we had a really nice time! I can't remember our server's name, but he was a lovely college man with a great attitude. I started with a delicious Guava Jalapeno Margarita. Highly recommend as it was very refreshing in the hot summer weather. Foodwise, tried the following: Mini Elk Tacos - very tasty, but I would never be able to tell it was elk if the menu didn't say it was. The other flavors covered the elk too much making it a bit disappointing. Barbacoa Chilaquiles - the absolute worst chilaquiles my guy and I have ever had in our lives. Extremely soggy chips, which is unfortunate because the barbacoa was delicious. We actually ended up sending it back because it was too gross to eat (note: this is definitely not how chilaquiles should be despite what the kitchen staff says). Wagyu Pastrami Hash - this was insanely good! Such a unique and delicious dish! We could not get enough of it. The flavors were perfectly balanced and complimented one another in every way. Would come back here for the guava jalapeno margarita and the wagyu pastami hash for sure!

Yelp
I've had Haywire MANY times. In person and just yesterday I ordered it via UberEats. I will 100% tell you my salad was half as big as it usually is, and the quality was subpar. In person everything is simply wonderful! The salads, the ribs, the tacos! All great choices. I would NOT recommend a Togo order. Oh and the homestead cake is exceptional.

Yelp
Sunday Brunch * If you are staying in Uptown and want a brunch spot, this might be worth trying. Parking garage a few steps away the validates parking when you come here (parking is typical big city, hard to find, easy to miss the public spots, etc) * We started with the Mini Elk Tacos and flavor house it is! Never had Elk before but nothing weird to it at all. For mains, we choose the Wagyu Pastrami Hash and the Crabcakes Benedict. Hash was nice and filling and the pastrami was perfect. The Benedict was my favorite flavor but mine had shells in every bite. It happens, not mad about it but that's the only reason this review was not a solid 5 of 5 stars. I'd order it again * Now, we mustn't forget about the cocktail right? The Judd and the Haywire were very nice selections if you like Old Fashioned's. I also tried the Texas Mule and that was my favorite. Will def be taking the jalapeño ingredient idea back home with me * Service at vibe we're awesome. Tastefully decorated and fast service all around. Plenty of space to pick seating from the bar, dining room or the outdoor patio. They even had a little camper setup with a table inside for those cute "do it for the gram" moments. Recommend checking it out if you are in town

Yelp
Great selection for lunch or brunch. The food here is always delicious and well prepared. We were lucky to have Tanner again this time and again he made sure the experience was great.

Yelp
Our waiter was awesome, we had a group of 12ish late after a workout competition and the waiter was so patient and kind with all of our substitutions and requests! The food was great, pricey but the quality was top notch. The housemade tortillas just gave it the touch it needed. The bread pudding was fantastic.. the chipotle cake, not sure lol I think our friend was trying to order the whiskey one and ordered this by mistake but it wasn't any of our cup of tea lol. The place was decorated so cute for Christmas!

Yelp
The steak was phenomenal, seriously one of the best steaks I've ever had! The onion rings to die for. service was 10/10, our server was extremely helpful with the menu as well and the ambiance was so nice! So glad we tried this place and will most definitely be returning!

Yelp
Came her for a work event and was very impressed. Despite the confusion finding the restaurant, a specific elevator takes you to it. Everything was great. We had a large table of 15 and our waiter was great. Took all of our orders and brought them out quickly and within a great time frame to allow us to enjoy the appetizers before dinners coming out. The old fashioned were great, recommend trying the tequila old fashioned. Had a nice taste to it as wasn't overtaken by any of the bitters. My dish was cooked perfectly where it was light and flaky and complemented well by the sides.

Yelp
I've been to Haywire many times and they never disappoint. The crab dip is amazing! One of my favs. I love the enclosed patio, perfect for when the weather is too hot or too cold. I've never had a bad meal here.

Yelp
What a great place to wind down with friends! Starting the evening with cocktails in the cozy waiting area near the bar was perfect. The drinks and experience were upscale but not pretentious. The staff was engaging, warm, welcoming, and happy. On to dinner, every bite of the food was perfection, starting off with the appetizers. The app for 4 was delicious, the sauces paired perfectly with the dishes and the elk tacos were a true standout! The burrata was good, but I would not say there was anything super special about it so I would probably pass on ordering it again. The entrees were all perfectly cooked and paired beautifully. I give kuddos to the chef, the steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked to the exact temperature ordered. The "icing on the cake" was your selection of a compound butter to top the steak. We all selected the garlic butter and it elevated the meal! Lastly, the brussel sprouts were inventive and fantastic, not your average steakhouse brussels and certainly worth a try... Be careful of the red peppers, they can be a bit spicy. Haywire is a must try place in Uptown Dallas!

Yelp
We had our team dinner here and it did not disappoint! I studied yelp prior so I knew I was getting the four board with elk tacos , nachos, onion rings and fried green tomatoes. Elk taco was just as described. You don't even know it's elk. One of the best street tacos I've had. I also had a couple of the nachos with the blanco queso and that was delicious as well. I ordered the 6oz filet medium with whipped potatoes and corn bread. Everything was so good. We had 12 in our party. 6 bottles of wine, 4 chefs boards, 8 steaks, 1 chicken fried steak and one prime rib. I'm pretty sure the massive prime rib won everyone over. The size alone and the meat looked juicy and tasty! Not one complaint from any of us!! The bill? $1200 which I felt was very reasonable with the wine and beers and drinks. I wanted to order the 66 pecan pie dessert but I was stuffed. So was everyone else. Perry was our waiter who was attentive, kind, funny and patient. Thanks for a great dinner.

Yelp
I've been to this Haywire location a few times and the overall service has stayed consistent. It wasn't crowded this time and so service was a bit more thorough and timely. For starters, we tried the Fried Green Tomatoes and Blueberry Biscuits. They were both very good. The biscuits were a perfect size and came with a side of vanilla glaze; although not needed, it definitely takes the biscuit to another level) For my meal, I had the Barbacoa Grilled Cheese. This was grilled to perfection; medium firm in the middle and crunchy around the edges. The barbacoa was seasoned well and it was plentiful despite my picture (my apologies). My only issue is that all the meat was stuffed into the middle as opposed to being spread evenly. Because of this, I ended up cutting off the corners and basically wasting a lot of bread. My sandwich came with a side of Tomato Soup, but to my surprise, it wasn't your regular tomato soup. It came with shredded chicken and chunks of avocado. So delicious. The serving sizes are usually generous so it fills you up pretty quickly. Next time I'll be sure to save room for dessert.

Yelp
Fun, rustic but modern, Texas atmosphere with delicious food. Great customer service and validated parking (pay first in garage get reimbursed). Enjoyed the steak salad, Mojito mocktail, venison chili and wedge salad. Appreciated the 3 mocktails on the menu! A big steak menu available as well.

Yelp
**Rating: 3.5 out of 5** I visited Haywire in Uptown on Sunday, June 30, 2024, and had a mixed experience. Starting with the valet service, I was put off by the attendant's rudeness. The valet stand is across the street from the entrance, and when I asked him to cross the street so I could get out and walk right in, he instructed me to meet him across the street instead. He didn't even open my car door. The restaurant manager informed me that the valet company is a separate, third-party service. Once inside, the dining experience was better. We started with the Lump Crab Dip, which was delicious and well-seasoned--perfect for sharing between two people. My date ordered the Smoked Angus Prime Rib, but it arrived cold, so we sent it back. Not sure if it had been sitting out or if the server delayed bringing it to our table. We opted for the Ribeye instead, which was juicy and flavorful. The Mac & Cheese he ordered was also tasty. I wasn't very hungry and decided on the Gulf Coast Ceviche, which was just okay. Being from Panama, I'm used to a different style. As I'm limiting alcohol, I chose the Mojito Refresher mocktail, which was so good and refreshing. The service was good overall, and the restaurant wasn't busy during our visit around 3 pm on a Sunday. Valet parking costs $7 plus tip, but they do have self-parking with validation available. Overall, Haywire offers a decent dining experience, but there are areas for improvement, especially with the valet service. *Sorry I forgot to snap photos of the entrees.

Yelp
Great food! The fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever had, crab cake Benedict was delicious....could definitely taste the crab and wasn't over powered with breading. Chocolate cake was moist and not too sweet. I can't recommend the orange cinnamon pancakes....they were a bit dry and dense for my liking.....not your typical buttermilk pancake that I would rather have. The bathrooms are very nice, clean and smell great with the candles burning.

Yelp
A really great brunch. Portion sizes are huge - I'd suggest splitting an entree. Really solid service, great atmosphere and solid food. We tried the kolache and queso for an appetizer - it was good but not the best. This was the weakest item we ordered. Otherwise, food was spot on. Absolutely plan on returning.

Yelp
Great atmosphere as well as delicious food. The menu is full of gems. I loved my filet and the Old Fashioneds went down way too easy!!

Yelp
A must try if you're in Dallas! The vibes and lighting for dinner are immaculate and the staff really show their southern hospitality. Crab Dip was a big fat, YES! Chicken Fried Chicken. The perfect comfort food and so delicious. The Pecan pie, yall. Out of my group of five, I was the only one who wanted this dessert and everyone agreed it was way better than the chocolate cake. Like, this honestly might be the best restaurant dessert I've ever had. They sho know how to cook here. Do not miss this spot!

Yelp
I wanted a true Texas dining experience and this restaurant delivered. The interior made me feel like I was visiting a Texas ranch for dinner. Most of the menu is for a carnivore but there are a few less heavy goodies on the menu. I started with the Mini Elk Tacos. Yes you read that correctly, Elk. Not a common meat choice in my region so had to sample. Meat was flavorful. The taco was all meat no extra veggie fillers. Very good eats. I wasn't really in the mood for a big carnivorous meal so decided on Texas Redfish for my entree. Never tasted Redfish. It was nicely grilled with no odd seasonings. A basic white fish would be my description. It was paired was rice and salad greens. I really enjoyed the entree. It wasn't too heavy but was filling. Service was really good. I ordered and was served my starter within a few minutes. My entree was also timed perfectly to be delivered shortly after finishing the starter. Nicely done with the service. I hate waiting extended periods of time between my courses. Overall this was a win. Good food. Good service. Interesting decor.

I love this place, great for special occasions, our service was great!! She was very helpful. I went last night

Yelp
If you're catching a show at the House of Blues, this spot is about 10 blocks away and offers free parking with restaurant validation (though be warned, in hot weather, those 10 blocks feel more like 10 miles!). Turns out, it's the sister restaurant to The Ranch, which I already love, so expectations were high. Our server, Ridge, was attentive, and the place is beautifully decorated with a massive picture window that lets you peek into the kitchen--always a plus if you're into dinner theater. This is definitely a spot where you could enjoy a cocktail and snack at the bar. Speaking of cocktails, I ordered a "double" martini, but somehow, it still arrived only 2/3 full. Either I'm bad at math, or that martini glass has seen better days. Hubby and I went for the Wagyu chicken fried steak, which comes with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was definitely enough for two people, but the Wagyu part? Let's just say I wasn't convinced. In hindsight, I kinda wish we had just gone with the chicken version. But hey, live and learn! Oh, and my friend ordered the filet, and while I'm not usually a filet kind of gal, I had a bite, and wow--exquisite. So if you're feeling fancy, go for the steak. They apparently DO have the out of this world Chipotle Chocolate cake like at The Ranch, so if you are feeling like desert, do not hesitate, as this might be my favorite chocolate cake I ever had. The bathrooms? Spotless and on brand with the rest of the restaurant--because yes, I'm that person who notices.

Yelp
A group of us had a team dinner here at the suggestion of a co worker who lives in Dallas. I'm glad we took his advice. Haywire was phenomenal. Great food, great drinks. Seriously, there wasn't a single thing that we didnt love. Started things off with a chef's platter appetizer that featured, onion rings, fried green tomatoes, elk tacos and a queso dip. Everything on this tray was outstanding. The rings and tomatoes were nice and crispy, great balance of breading and veg. I didn't get to a taco, but those who did raved. For an entree, I got the chicken fried steak with a side of roast corn. Again, this was a nice portion size and the steak didn't get overshadowed by the batter. One thing I really liked was the fact that you could see the corn was cut off the cob and it was fresh not frozen. The show stopper though was the dessert sampler. THe pecan pie with the cinnamon roll crust was life changing. Don't know if I ever want another pecan pie without the cinnamon roll crust again. The bread pudding was terrific as well. I didn't care for the chipotle chocolate cake quite as much, but then again, I'm not a big spicy/ sweet combo fan. Would definitely go back to Haywire next time I'm in Dallas

Yelp
Fantastic food, especially the Elk tacos. Great ambience. The service was attentive without being burdensome. I often drive 2+ hours to eat here.

Yelp
Really good UberEats delivery while at the Hilton Anatole Dallas. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Peacan Pie. The portions are plentiful and extremely flavorful. The entree container is vented to keep your Chicken Fried Steak crispy! The Route 66 pecan pie á la mode is huge! Save 1/2 your dinner for tomorrow so you'll have room for dessert!

Yelp
Such an awesome place. We made reservations so we were seated right away. Upon arriving I was in awe of all the decor. I wanted all the furniture lol. A+ for the interior design! Shadayah (I hope I'm spelling that right) was our lovely server. She was so sweet, very friendly and helpful when it came to recommendations. We ordered the ceviche, the elk tacos for appetizers. Then ordered burgers for the kids, I got the steak salad and my husband ordered the steak. I also got the velvet pear martini and my husband ordered the spicy Texas mule. Everything came out pretty much around the same time. Every dish was so tasty and cooked perfectly. Loved the elk tacos and my steak and salad were so tasty.

Yelp
Evan and Jaylen made sure our first visit here was an excellent one. They both greeted us like we were regulars and took all the steps to make sure we were taken care of and that our cups were full. This place makes for a great venue whether on an intimate date or in a big party. The decor is Texas-cool in keeping with the dishes offered here. From the pics and some recommendation, we started with the "Chef's Favorite," which is a collection of four appetizers: elk tacos, onion rings, queso, and fried green tomatoes. The fave was the elk, but that wasn't an easy decision to reach. I had the biscuit and gravy, while my lady went with the chicken and waffles. Each of our dishes came weighed down with huge portions and we weren't disappointed in the quality, either. My bacon, eggs, and especially the biscuit covered with gravy were all flavorful. I had to force myself to take breaks. We can't wait to come back and experience more great food and top notch service.

Yelp
This is an enormous restaurant! I had a work holiday dinner here last night and it was lovely! Our servers, Perry & Denise were Great, patient and courteous. They handled our group really well. Food came out well and we were served promptly. Favorites included the hibiscus drink, I had two. The quesadilla was delicious and my bass was very good. We had a separate room so we were able to be loud and had a blast. They also validated my parking.

Yelp
Let me just start off with the ambience of this place ! Gorgeous decor that is cohesive to each level . I love that it has levels ! This is a place you'll definitely need to call in advance to get a seat , but normally you can find something at the bar upstairs . This is where we sat . The food is immaculate. The double pork chop didn't disappoint and it's huge . They also make a great old fashioned. Top notch ! We ended up getting dessert too. The carrot cake has a ton of layers and it's divine ! Also , the pecan pie with ice cream is heaven ! Perfect for a date night with some intimate areas , and great for just hanging with friends . I'll return again and again!

Yelp
Went here recently, well we attempted to anyway. Walked in around 8:30PM and the host immediately said they were booked to 'capacity'. I asked if she was sure? I walked out, logged into to Open Table and was able to book a reservation for 8:45PM. Mind you this was a Thursday night. Maybe they were busy but you'd think the hostess would check her info before simply shutting down a party of 2. On the plus side, the area is pretty nice, plenty of shops and other places to eat!

Yelp

Yelp
A really pretty room. The place was an absolute madhouse after a hockey match let out (I had no idea - eesh): we got there five minutes before our reservation and were seated fifteen minutes after it. During the interim, we were crowded into a tiny pocket of the bar near the host stand while more and more and MORE people kept packing into the atrium. Eesh. And when we were seated in the (beautifully decorated) dining room, it was crowded (giant baby strollers in between the already crowded together tables) and terribly loud. Think Texas-themed Carnival cruise. We got water right away but it was a bit of a wait before our order got taken, and a bit of a wait for the food (no surprise, the place was a zoo). And our server smiled throughout all of it, calm, gracious and welcoming - Jenifer H., you're a peach. The food was good but not turning-cartwheels-great (to be fair, it was pretty reasonably priced, particularly for such a pretty room): I had the chicken fried steak (tasty jalapeño sausage gravy, for sure) with beans and mashed; my wife had the chipotle meatloaf (generous, but seriously lacking in flavor) with corn and mashed. On request, Jenifer instantly brought us an extra boat of the tasty gravy for my wife's meatloaf at no charge. The place calmed down somewhat after the hockey crowd moved away, but it was still louder and more crowded than I prefer. We had planned on meeting friends for supper but our friends had to cancel due to COVID; it turns out that was a good thing because there was no way Haywire would have suited for a quiet conversation to catch up. Perfectly fine place, but not what we were after.

Yelp
Haywire offers a great dining experience with its fresh, farm-to-table concept. Everything was tasty, and the mac and cheese and cornbread were amazing! The only downside was waiting 40 minutes for our reservation, but they made up for it with complimentary appetizers. The quality of the ingredients really stood out. Overall, it was a fantastic meal, and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I started with The Judd smoked tableside and it was excellent, with a great presentation. For dinner, we ordered the wedge salad to share. I had the Double Cut Pork Chop with brussels sprouts and my wife had the Low & Slow Chicken. The salad did not come, we said nothing. The pork chop was absolutely massive with a fantastic crust. It was as tender as a piece of country ham. To be succinct, it was the best pork chop I've ever had. Ever. Our server explained that it was cooked sous vide. Now I want every future pork chop to be cooked sous vide. In contrast, my wife's chicken came out cold, pre-cut in half and had a strange texture. She asked for it to be refired and by the time it came back out I was mostly done eating. She did not like the flavor of the second attempt but we didn't say anything about that, she just didn't eat much of it. Now for the really aggravating parts. The restaurant was very busy and seems to be a pretty upscale place in an upscale area with a great vibe. Then the record screeched to a halt when not one but two different couples at different tables, one after the other, got into huge altercations with screaming matches that went on for a total of nearly 50 minutes. Not only did the restaurant not handle it well, they didn't handle it at all. The staff just sort of awkardly tiptoed around the fighting while the GM let it continue. My wife and I waited it out in our ringside seats, but several other tables of people in the immediate area asked for their checks and left. It was truly absurd. For our anniversary, our server offered to comp us a dessert, so we ordered the Buttermilk Pie. It was good. But to cap it off, when we received the bill, we were charged double for my wife's chicken, and for the salad. My pork chop was just so damn good though.

Yelp
On my second day in Dallas, one of my co-workers recommended Haywire. I came for lunch after a conference. My waitress recommended I try their 8oz garlic stuffed angus steak $49. Wow, this was terrific. I've never had garlic placed inside a steak before. The closest thing I had previously was at a Korean steakhouse where they put a small foil tray on the side with garlic and butter where you can spread the overcooked garlic as a spread. The chef at Haywire did a good job with searing the outside of the filet with the proper seasoning. Service was excellent. This was one of the best lunches I had in Dallas. No wait on a Friday at around 1pm.

Yelp
Walked in on a Monday night without a reservation. The restaurant was busy but we were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere was very clean, hip, southern and sophisticated. Shortly after we were seated, our waitress arrived to talk to us. We took advantage of the happy our to try drinks and apps. They were tasty. Our meals arrived a little while after the appetizers. The menu had menu had many options (various cuts of steak and other Texas staples). The food was flavorful, however, I would have liked it to be a little hotter upon arrival. While finishing our meal, the power suddenly went out. Later we found out it went out on the whole block. In the midst of the power outage, the staff was very friendly, offered us free drinks and still tried to remain attentive as much as they could.

Yelp
New restaurant review: Haywire Uptown Yesterday I had a little time between meetings, so stopped for lunch at the haywire in downtown Dallas. I've been to the Plano location multiple times and love it, and was excited to experience another rendition of it. The decor is rustic and flavors of Southwest style. I went around 11:30 and sat on the patio, they had nice airflow and AC pumping so it was quite cool. They had a small RV camper inside set up with a fun and funky table. My server was extremely friendly and took great care of me. I had the steak salad and subbed in a spicy dressing. It was good and I'm glad to have tried something new but the meatloaf was really on my heart. I'm kinda regretting my decision... The kitchen has a clear view from the inside of the restaurant through the glass. They have a large and inviting bar with a cool pulley system for the shelving, rustic wood floors and a longhorn sporting pride colors. I particularly liked the ceiling treatment and one of the side dining rooms had a cool rope treatment with some awesome light fixtures. The VP of the company was walking around and we had a conversation, very friendly guy. He was telling me about the Houston location. Would love to give that a try in the future. One thing Haywire always does is have exceptional customer service. I have never had a bad experience and thoroughly enjoy every dining opportunity.

Yelp
Starting off with the bad-- 1. My friend ordered the chicken fried CHICKEN because she does not eat red meat. In fact, she hasn't ate red meat in over 10 years. Anyway, this was the day that she accidentally ate steak because our waiter had gotten her order wrong and put in chicken fried STEAK. 2. The manger, being a sweet soul, apologized and brought back what she had originally ordered which was the chicken fried chicken. She cut into the chicken and immediately noticed that it was raw. We called back the manger over and he said that it looked cooked to him. Idk y'all... I don't think chicken is supposed to be pink. The good-- 1. My friend got her meal taken off (as she should've) and we got free dessert. 2. Nice ambiance. Great for date night. Overall, this place isn't anything special. I will say, my meatloaf was good, but I don't see myself coming back.

Yelp
Was excited to try Haywire. Was lucky to find a place on the street -- but I noticed that they have a self-parking garage with validated parking as well as valet parking. Headed to the bar -- since it was the Saturday before Halloween, it was slower than usual and therefore easy to find a spot. My bartender was cool (and hot!). He was tall -- with a great physique, deep voice, and very personable. I started with a cup of the chicken tortilla soup -- it was very good. Next time, I would order an entire bowl. For my second (and final) course, I ordered the steak salad. The steak was excellent -- but the salad itself was lacking. It wasn't bad -- just lacking compared with other steak salads I have ordered lately. Drinks were good. Service was great. It was a fun evening.

Yelp
Haywire is a great spot for large groups or date night. They have plenty of seating and menu options for everyone. Definitely try to get a reservation for a weekend night because they fill up pretty quickly. The service is great from the hosts to the servers. They are incredibly accommodating and helpful with your needs. They have valet parking and there are some garages around as well. You have to get the elk tacos! We get at least two orders everytime we go. Their steaks are also good along with many of their appetizers. Only thing I would not recommend is their onion rings and queso as they aren't the best I've had. They do have some pretty creative drinks that are delicious and the wine selection is pretty good as well.

Yelp
The seating is a bit cramped the closer you get to the kitchen, so just pray to not be seated there. Drinks are good, food is good, and nothing is dry which is a BLESSING with southern comfort food. If I'm trying to impress someone from out of town with good Dallas Southern food, with a hint of bougie, I'm bringing them here and feeling confident about it. I've been twice now and the service was lovely each time. My real recommendation is that Mac and cheese and the chicken fried steak. I hope this place is around for a good while.
