Taiwanese Croissant Shop Hazukido Coming to Montreal’s Shaughnessy Village | Eater Montreal

"Originating in Taiwan, Hazukido prides itself on an artisanal Japanese approach to the laminated French pastry, producing a 64-layer honeycomb pattern that it says requires 72 hours of preparation; based on its other outposts, Montrealers can expect sweet fillings like raspberry panna cotta and caramel pudding as well as savoury options such as salted egg yolk, truffle crab, and cod roe, with some seasonal additions." - Valerie Silva

The croissants were alright. I tried the almond/cream croissant while my friends got white chocolate and plain chocolate. They didn’t taste bad per se but we wouldn’t get them again. The staff and service were good. The only issue we had was the cleanliness of the store, as there were crumbs on the floor and seats from previous customers.

The croissants were really nothing special. They’re weren’t bad, but they weren’t worth the price point. I had the cookies and cream and after taxes., it came close to 8$ for a single average croissant.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. My friend suggested we get a little sweet treat. The croissants were flakey on the outside, completely stuffed on the inside (I had pistachio) there were more with delicious fillings but 1 was definitely more than enough. There was one man working. He was very friendly and very helpful. I would say if you’re curious definitely try it. The pastries were about $6 each. So not something I would do often. But it was definitely worth the try! Made us feel like tourists in our own city. 🫶🏽

Looked interesting enough so I stopped in while walking in downtown Montreal. The floors are kinda destroyed, but at this point I'm learning that that is a trait of Montreal shops in general. The rest of the place is very tidy and cozy. All the pastries looked excellent. The employee greeted me quietly as I walked in. I've been trying to watch my calorie intake, so I just got one croissant with creme anglaise and a cappuccino (which came out very quickly) and lemme tell you I did not regret it. The croissant was light and just sweet enough, and before I knew it I had devoured the whole thing before I remembered to take picture. The cappuccino was also very good and kept me warm on my walk through Montreal. Great place to stop for a quick treat.

The ice cream croissant I had (caramel) was amazing! I definitely recommend this to everyone. I also recommend the pistachio croissant, chocolate crookie and the strawberry cube croissant. Everything was fresh, buttery and the filling was flavourful! P.S. However, it seems like their croissant quality vary because when I visited last year, their croissants were dryer and missing some flavors. Also, it’s on the pricier side (still a place to visit!)

The aroma of freshly baked croissants immediately made our mouths water and taste buds tingle with anticipation. We sampled a square white chocolate, pistachio, and a Crookie, and each of them had flaky layers of buttery, perfectly baked dough, golden brown crispiness on the outside, and soft and airy on the inside. There is a varied bubble tea menu as well, full of flavors and options available to suit every taste preference. We enjoyed a strawberry Matcha with its vibrant colors and playful presentation, as well as a sweet and refreshing brown sugar white velvet tea. Finally, we had a truly beautiful (and exquisite) croissant ice cream which didn't fail to bring joy and satisfaction. These croissants are a must-have indulgence that we recommend to anyone looking for a delectable and satisfying treat. Once you try them, you'll be hooked on their buttery goodness and irresistible flakiness too!

When I with my friend n daughter entered into the shop , really it’s awesome smell welcomed us. Very Pleasant and good to seen this place. We ordered different kind of crescent and smoothie. Variety flours of crescent was amazing and too good. Even though Square shaped crescent too. I loved it. Smoothie was fantastic. Bubble tea and coffee also made it.

Google
Beyond exceptional cafe, it was as if I was inside a cafe in Japan. The quality of the pastries as well as the tea's is remarkable. You can tell that it is a combination of quality ingredients and diligence to attention. I absolutely loved this cafe and can envision spending hours here just trying out their different pastries as well as their teas. I had a almond croissant filled with custard as well as a light tea. Both were exceptional and extremely delicious. The cafe inside was very clean, and the employees were very helpful in providing tips on what teas or pastries to select from

Yelp
TL;DR/The Short Version: Japanese bakery with waffles, croissants and drinks. Croissants were very tasty. The Long Version: I got 2 croissants for my husband and I to share. He likes savoury croissants so I got a Smoked Chicken and Cheese Croissant ($5.75). I wanted to complement it with a sweet croissant, so I got a Strawberry English Cream Croissant ($5.45) as well. The croissants themselves were flaky but the savoury one was a bit too crispy/crunchy for my tastes. My husband however, loved the savoury one. I much preferred the sweet one. The croissant was a bit softer and the cream was so rich and decadent. I also loved the crunchy freeze-dried strawberry crumble on top. I would get the Strawberry English Cream Croissant again for sure. The bakery has limited seating. It's more a takeout place. Service was pleasant and efficient. The place is right by Concordia University. Street parking only. Review #4 (2025)

Yelp

Yelp
Hazukido intimately transports you to a fusion of France meets Japan. This bakery, Hazukido insists on Shokunin spirit of Japan, using only the finest ingredients to make the highest quality croissant. The Shokunin spirit is defined as an artisan who masters their profession through precision and detailed craftsmanship. It's a constant journey Shokunin represents a cultural and philosophical concept deeply ingrained in Japanese society. It's a commitment to mastery, craftsmanship and a profound connection to one's work. It's more than a job when you embody Shokunin spirit. Hazukido sets the bar on the premium ingredients and incredible detail to something as simple as a buttery croissant. The croissants are freshly baked on-site daily to ensure the croissants' crispiness and tenderness. This bakery offers gourmet croissants, seasonal croissants, chocolate ball, creamy criscuit, salted seaweed criscuit, chocolate criscuit, croissant rolls, danish toast, mountain danish loaf, garlic slices, Brûlée Mille-Feuille, fruit pies, Croissant Cubes, Croissant Sandwiches, Croffles, coffee, Sparkling Refresher Series, tea, milk tea, and strawberry series. We ordered a Pistachio Croissant, Milk Caramel, and a large Americano coffee. The croissants instantly melted in our mouths. I didn't try my hubby's pistachio croissant but he enjoyed my milk caramel far better. He loved it so much he finished it off without me knowing lol. He also stated the Americano was some of the best black coffee he's ever had.

Yelp
Small bakery shop specialize in croissant, cookie and other small stuff like it. They also do bubble tea, tea and coffee. I tried the citrus sparkling bubble tea. It was very good, fresh, really tasty. We also tried the red velvet croissant, a cookie and match croissant. It was very flaky, soft and crunchy, tasted very good. You can taste that it's freshly made with fresh ingredients. Very good. The place have some small table for 2 to site and a small bar at the window to sit. It's very quiet, there's no music and good to relax. For a quick snack bite, it's very good. Push hard on the first door to open, the door do stuck on the entrance.

Yelp
These croissants are to die for! The quality, freshness, and aesthetic is unbeatable. The price is really good for what you are getting. I chose the honey citrus, strawberry chocolate cube, and smoked cheese chicken. I'm normally not a croissant person but this I am a total fan of. If you have not try - YOU MUST. Everything here looked so good it was so hard to limit myself. The service is quick and there's some number of seating's to enjoy your pastries before you take off for your day.

Yelp
I waited till the hype died down before visiting this place and I'm so glad I did. Although these croissants are tasty, I would not wait an hour in line for them. I've tried a handful of flavours and I was happy with all of them. My favourites are the savoury ones. Cheese, garlic, and crab. The crab croissant has a filling too and I wasn't expecting it to taste so good. Mild in flavour, creamy, and complimentary to the toppings of the croissant. I think the chocolate ones are good too but very sweet, I can never finish one. Especially the double chocolate, that one is a sweet bomb. Definitely best to share or with a coffee to cut into the sweetness. I like that they have specialty croissants too from time to time. I went yesterday and they had a special crispy milk chicken croissant with eyes and a nose! It wasn't too sweet. I really enjoyed that one. It did have a filling but I'm not sure what it was. Make sure to show up earliest as that is when the croissants are the most fresh. By end of day they usually have less selection and they aren't as fresh. They'll still be delicious though. But especially if you want a specific flavour I recommend visiting early. I've also gotten the Yashima brown sugar boba and it was meh. The bubbles were burnt and the liquid was bland. But it was free so I can't complain (the app gives you a free drink up to $5 when you sign up. They are expensive so this is definitely a treat for once in a while. Sign up for their reward program and also if you buy 6 there is no taxes!

Yelp
There has been so much hype about this place that I haven't gotten the chance to try it till now. Walking around Ste. Cathy's we saw we were right in front of the shop. We decided to pop in and see what flavours they would have available. Because this place is so popular and we knew the selection would not be great at 4pm. We decided to try the white chocolate, the caramel filled and a savoury garlic bread croissant to try. The croissants were a decent size and tasted alright. We definitely felt that this is the type of place you need to get to in the morning when everything is baked fresh and you have your pick of options. The ones we choose weren't bad but for the price point of 3 croissant for almost 20$ we definitely thought there would be something extra special about them. I'd definitely come back and try some of the other flavours before making my mind up fully.

Yelp
Kind of upset that when we swung by, almost everything was sold out already. But they had a promotion where if you bought 5, you get 1 free. We ordered: Truffle crab croissant ($5.49) Butter garlic croissant ($4.95) Lemon crème glazed croissant ($4.95) Smoked cheese chicken sliced croissant ($5.49) White chocolate croffle ($4.95) The truffle crab just tasted like a crab stick in-between a croissant with mayo. I wasn't sure how to feel about it. The butter garlic tastes exactly what you expect it to: garlic bread! The lemon creme was a zesty sweet croissant. It was good but definitely not a flavor I'm used to on a croissant. It felt like I was eating candy on bread. The smoked cheese chicken was kind of hard and there wasn't much flavor to the cheese or chicken, pass on that. The white chocolate croffle was also kind of basic. It tasted like a thin waffle dipped in chocolate. Sadly, I wasn't too wowed by this place. Maybe it's because the selection was kind of limited and all the amazing flavors were sold out. It definitely isn't bad and I enjoyed it but it just wasn't extraordinary. Wouldn't mind coming back again to try more flavors though.

Yelp
Just came back from there. Charming little place in the heart of Downtown with really interesting Croissants flavors as such as Caramel pudding or Salted caramel that are both I took but Jesus don't expect to not make a mess eating those. Was walking to the subway station and while eating my croissants both spilled everywhere and I got covered in cream . Also personally 5.75$ for a croissant is a bit overpriced and expensive in my opinion. Other than that People were very friendly and offer good service

Yelp
I have to say that while this place is suuuuuper instagramable (did I spell that right?) there are definitely better croissants in the city. I do like how unique some of the options are... they even have a crab croissant (which interests me not at all, but you might be into it). I tried two kinds. The nutella croissant... which was actually pretty good... and comes with gold leaf on top (which everything should imho). Also tried a raspberry one that looked pretty, but taste was just kinda alright. Definitely didn't have the flakiness I was hoping for. But don't get me wrong - def still very edible. Overall I'd say if you're in the area give them a try for some of their unique flavors! Stay Cheerful ;)

Yelp
Delicious croissant and milk tea. The crab cream is smokey and very flavorful. The butter garlic tastes great but is a bit salty. The chicken and cheese is pretty good. The sweet croissants are delicious and not too sweet.

Yelp
Nice over priced coffee and croissant. I did like the spice in the croissant and the jazz music.

Yelp
Alright, I had been looking forward to try this place since its opening. Hazukido is chain and it is its only store in Quebec, so Saturday was the day. Normally bakeries opens early morning, not this one. So no need to show up too early BUT you can only be 3 inside, so expect a line outside. Also if you order drinks, it will take a while like a good 5 minutes after you order to get your drink (which I still recommend getting). The store is nice, I liked the look of everything but they do garlic croissants and when you get in the store you are hit with a VERY strong smell of garlic, in fact, you can even smell it outside so dont expect to smell sweet pastries when you get there. All you'll smell is garlic so if you cant stand the garlic smell: this is not the place to go. The croissant are very good. Not the soft type of croissants but the crispy type. Buttery. Flaky. I have particularly appreciated the strawberry one and the raspberry one. The chocolate covered ones are very good too. I have also tried the ''egg'' one. I say ''egg'' cuz until today I still have no idea what it was. I think they might call it egg because of the look? Like it looks like an egg yolks inside a croissant but it's a sweet yellow cream which is I have no idea what it was but dont go there expecting your typical ''egg croissant'' for breakfast. Having said that, it was an interesting taste. I did not disliked it. It just wasnt what I expected. Croissants priced from 4$ to $5 which is way to pricey for a croissant if you ask me. Their drinks are very good. The presentation of everything is perfect. To me $35 for 6 croissants and a coffee is on the overpriced side of things and the strong smell of garlic has also negatively impacted the overall general experience for me. I recommend trying, I'm glad I did but because of their prices I wont become a regular.
