"When you step into Heads or Tails, the first things you’ll notice are the restaurant’s ocean-colored walls and those plastic folding chairs you find at every summer barbecue. They’ve got everything from conch and jumbo shrimp platters to soft hush puppies you should add on as a side to whatever you get. If you’re in the mood for ceviche or soup, they’ve got a bunch to choose from. Depending on the day's specials, you can expect cream of seafood, conch, lobster, and more." - india amos

Tore it up!!! Delicious Salmon with mashed potatoes and tostones. The service was great, didn't take too long to get food and me and my friends enjoyed our lunch very much. Highly recommend if near the area.

Whenever we are in the Miami area, we stop here for great seafood. My husband ordered the fried snapper, and I had grilled shrimp. Everything was fresh and delicious. In addition, the customer service was top-notch. Much love from Houston!

Google
Fresh fish at the market and served fresh and delicious when you dine in. Eat in the back under the fans. Such a cute local spot. Big portions and amazing food. Loved the yellow rice with seafood. Excellent dolphin dish, and the flavor of the black beans! Que rico!

Once you get over the location, you'll find a great restaurant. Pick your fish from a selection. They'll clean and cook it for you. 2 servers never stop working, great service. Rice and beans extra, but delicious Spanish food. Very friendly atmosphere. Backyard seating amazingly cool even on warm days.

This place has great food and it is reasonably priced. The portions are enormous and enough to share. I have dined in and sat outside at the bar. The service was rather quick as we did go during lunch hour and waiting probably about 8 minutes for our food. When you do takeout you'll need to go inside and they do charge a fee for doing carry out. They verify your order prior to closing it and putting it in the bag and then you pay for it at the following register after it is completed and you've checked it. The staff is very sweet. Fir parking there are spots in the front but there is also parking in the back of the building and don't worry about having to walk around, you can still access the building from the back. I've never had an issue parking there but when I went there for the first time I accidentally missed my turn and when I went down at the light to turn back and do a U that's when I saw the back of the restaurant

Google
I like that you can go inside and pick your own fish and get it cooked anyway you like. I ordered off the outside menu. Loved my whole fried snapper with yellow rice

Google
The food was so delicious I took one bite and continued eating and forgot to take pictures. I had the seafood fried rice with tostones. I put some of the “house” hot sauce, YUMMY in my tummy!!! My husband had the snapper sandwich with a side of fish soup. He was so content. The fish soup took him back home to the island.

Google
Good fish and sides. This was my first time here and they were helpful telling me what to order. Overall the meal and atmosphere was great

Yelp
Parking is weird but really worth it. The food, the service and the ambiance were wonderful. I have whole fried snapper with 3 sides that I ordered outside. My husband went in and picked a pice of fish from their extensive selection and picked a hogfish. The guy behind the counter cleaned and cut the fish and had it cooked to order. We are really well for $50 and came home with food left over. We will be back

Yelp
I love this place! My parents come here a lot and all the staff know them by name. I recently went with my mom to grab a bite to eat and they were so nice, friendly and absolutely treated us like family. The prices are super reasonable, the food very tasty. I love to eat a minutera (fish sandwich with tartar sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions on a round Cuban bread bun, and fish soup. The menu is extensive and everything is fresh. The fish market is connected to restaurant and you can come in buy a fish and they'll cook it for you to eat there. In addition, the covered patio area has ample space and there's a bar as well service all kinds of drinks. It is located in a very factory dense area, so it's very popular amongst blue color workers. If you want good food at very affordable prices and be treated like family, come visit this little gem in Hialeah. I highly recommend

Yelp
Okay first off, this place did not look like what I imagined at all from the outside. It is in a sketchy looking area of town and the front looks run down. It is a seafood market on the front that you walk through to the back patio where the dining is. We were greeted by our server. I wish I could remember his name but he was funny. Great with suggestions. We were trying to decide from garlic sauce, to creole to blackened, etc. He was super helpful. He also kept stopping by and chatting with us from time to time. he noticed we had an MSC Cruise tag on our luggage and mentioned he used to work for them. Small world. My husband ended up getting the conch (he had it 3 different ways in the Bahamas and wanted to try it here) and shrimp in the creole sauce with fried rice and botanas. I got the lobster and shrimp in the scampi sauce with the fried rice and black beans. PLUS our server threw in a side salad for free. I will say this is a TON of food. I couldn't finish it all and it made me sad because we had to go to the airport right afterwards so I couldn't take the leftovers with me. The lobster was cooked well and the shrimp were huge. Love the scampi sauce. if you like garlic, this is for you. The fried rice is seafood fried rice. It has shrimp, scallops and maybe other seafood in it and it is a large portion. I liked the black beans as well. Just too much food. Great place though. I so would go back and eat here again. Maybe next time just get the shrimp for a smaller portion.

Yelp
Food was great !!! Located nearly down the street from my house which is before heading into Hialeah. Fish market with fresh seafood selection which offers the option to cook for a few. The location is small, offer indoor and outdoor seating. Service was also good even though it was limited waitress. I had the Minuta sandwich (was over fried and warm) with cream shrimp soup (delicious). My friend has the grilled chicken breast (juicy) with the seafood fried rice and plantains. Overall, it was good, besides the warm fish.

Yelp
While visiting South beach, we were told we had to try Conch! We Yelped places that were not far away and this place came up. Walking in, the ambience is what to be expected. It was a large space, enough to be able to move around one area is where you can buy raw fish and seafood to cook at home and on the other side is the to go area where you can sit at diner type countertops. If you want to dine in there is a covered open space in the back where you feel like you're at a backyard picnic with no grass Who cares about all of that, because the service by our waiter Yoel and the food there was top 10 and he's made the best cafe con leche I've had a while in Miami and that is definitely saying a lot. Go here!

Yainira P.

Yelp
I like ordering the fried hog snapper , you get to pick it out ! It's pricey, but I will say it's worth it 100% when you're in mood for some good fried fish enjoy

Isis A.

Yelp
If you are looking for an amazing bite but don't want to leave the area you are in, then look no further. In the middle of Hialeah you will find one the best seafood joints. You are definitely in charge of how you want your fish to be and how it is cooked. I recently went again during Holy Week and it honestly felt that I was near the river or beach. It was so fresh and relaxing. Everything is amazing. From their soup to their entrees. Don't be fooled even though it is a market outside is where the restaurant portion is, great and smooth service.

Malik M.

Yelp
Never disappoints. Been there a few times, reviewing for the first time. We live in Broward to come down to this area is always a trek but it's quite worth the trip. Seafood always tastes fresh and at a reasonable price. The only challenge is navigating the pot holes and commercial vehicles. We got the fried snapper and the fish soup of the day. Both were on point delicious seasoned perfectly. They season the food right so it enhances the natural flavors without overpowering spices and heat. We did get another platter with Fried Mic seafood but that went down before I had a chance to snap a picture.....Next time. The service was adequate not overly courteous or late. I would have liked a little bit more in conversation but I guess for that I need to practice Duolingo. The place is clean as it can be being out doors and with casual parking lot view. Will be back soon with better pics and description.

Yelp
2 in for dinner on a Thursday at 4 PM. Picked from the fresh fish display to be cooked and served at our table. Grouper fillet .56lb @19.99/lb to be blackened $11.19 Grouper fillet .55lb @19.99/lb to be blackened $10.99 All tables are on a covered patio outside with ceiling fans running fast and a roaring noise coming from somewhere that made it very noisy and windy. Went to our table and gave our side orders to the server. Red beans and white rice with a salad each. Side prices not on the printed menu. Our meals were very good. Server brought our check. A real shocker. Red Beans $3.99ea Rice $3.99ea Small salad $3.99ea Way over priced for what we got. Electronic Fee #003 $1.61 (whatever that is) 15% tip $7.16 Tax 1.68 Total $56.57 Food was good. Service was OK. The side prices soured our experience.

Yelp
Best seafood in Hialeah wild caught fish all the time . I am so happy my neighbor recommend it

Leo V.

Yelp
A hidden seafood spot in East Hileah. Highly recommended. There is also an option to buy freshly caught fish to cook at home.

A G.

Yelp
Food is great she consistently well prepared. Not expensive and definitely a nice place for lunch.

Ali A.

Yelp
Fresh seafood and cheap compare to other fancy restaurants . Worth going there .. Total we paid $72

William B.

Yelp
This is unlike any Resturant i ever visited, thankfully I went with a local who showed me the ropes. We parked around back and went through the outside dining area into the store front (which also serves as a fishmarket). There, you pick from fresh (whole) fish and they are prepared anyway you like. Now with ticket in game, return to the outside dining area and order sides and a drink. Within ten minutes were were eating. I recommended the Hog Snapper (looks intense) which has delicate meat. Finish with a tresleche dessert and Cuban coffee! Overall, I highly recommend this Resturant wholeheartedly!

Angela L.

Yelp
One of my favorite local restaurants! I love their fried snapper which comes with two sides. The price is very reasonable, and the quality is great.

Jacques R.

Yelp
This is a place to come and have a mega relaxed meal... This is in the heart of a warehouse, working neighborhood place where the place is ultra rustic.... ZERO fancy, so please the stars are not for the "bring your girlfriend and impress" restaurant. This place is to come have a good quick lunch near the Miami airport. It is mainly a fish shop where you can buy fish and take it home, but at the rear of the store, there are some tables and a bar where you can seat and have the fish you chose made to order for you.... I found this both interesting and good in quality. We had a whole red snapper and a grouper filet which were both fresh and very good! Also had some fried mahi roe that was also quite good.... Service is on the good side and the place is ok clean... All in all, will come back! Enjoy

David T.

Yelp
Best place to get fried fish.. freezer in side let's you choose what fish and how you want it cooked. The seafood soup that's only available Fridays and Saturday is good. Don't expect fine dinning service but fast fresh seafood

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Nice local seafood spot not far from the airport. Nothing fancy here except the food. Pleasant indoor and outdoor seating areas. Great on street parking and a private lot in the rear. Friendly, attentive workers. Fresh caught seafood at amazing prices. Great place to eat like a local.

Fernan V.

Yelp
Tasty food , good service and prices, fresh seafood , delicious lobster bisque ! The place is small but clean , Be patient to get your food

Tim C.

Yelp
As I often say, it's about your expectations when you are Judging performance. Hialeah has lots of Latin restaurants and many are traditional Cuban but Heads or Tails is a step a over the rest. Outdoor neighborhood seafood that shares the appearance of an intercity restaurant with the great fresh fish you hope to find for a economIc menu. Joel was a great waiter, beer was cold and the food covered a big range so we were all satisfied. In town near the airport, - be sure to hit it.

Steve T.

Yelp
I'm not sure how you rate a restaurant that is good one day and terrible the next. I've dined at this restaurant multiple times and while most of the times it's pretty average, at times it can be great and the other times terrible. Today was one of those terrible times which prompted me to write a review. We arrived early for lunch and the server we got literally spoke zero English. I pointed out the entrée I wanted on the menu which was six jumbo shrimp with one side ($12.99) and an order of Conch Fritters (3 for $3.99). My dining companion ordered the same shrimp dish that I did but I ordered salad for my side and he had tostones with his. Out comes the appetizer, eight conch fritters. I tried to explain to one of the few servers that spoke some English and she took back the rest leaving me four and stating that the order now comes with four instead of three. The shrimp were as good as other times that I have ordered them except for some tasted like ammonia which means they've been sitting around a while and were hardly fresh. The tostones tasted like play dough. The side salad was minuscule when last week I could hardly finish it. If you don't see where I'm going with this, the point is this restaurant is extremely inconsistent. None of the staff that I tried to communicate with spoke English at all and communicating was very difficult even considering that my dining companion is fluent in Spanish. Our server was completely out of it so when the bill came which should've been approximately $30, it was $47. Instead of charging us for the six shrimp with one side (and I had pointed it out on the menu so I don't know where she got the idea we were ordering a bigger platter), we got nine jumbo shrimp each for $16.99 that was supposed to come with two sides even though we only got one side each. Moreover she never took the extra conch fritters I sent back off of the check. It was easier to just pay the bill then try to argue with an idiot about being overcharged and I tipped her the full amount on the higher amount, but they totally lost a customer. I'll never set foot in there again. A restaurant in the center of a metropolitan city like Miami should have some staff that speak English. Don't even attempt to go there unless you have someone with you that speaks Spanish or unless you speak Spanish yourself, and be explicit about what you are ordering although since I did point out the entrée on the menu with my finger I'm not sure what went wrong. Where this cuckoo bird got the idea we wanted two orders of conch fritters I'll never know. What it comes down to is bad Management, inconsistently prepared food, and staff that is not trained properly.

Sara L.

Yelp
Decent seafood place, price is convenient, one fried snapper with 3 sides for $12.99, I chose rice, red beans, and sweet plantains. Place was really packed around 2pm on a Monday. My first time here after reading other reviews. The fish wasn't as fresh as I'd wish and for the most part I've noticed people other than Central Americans or Caribbean don't really season the fish but was overall a good meal. I actually enjoyed the sides the most but the service and overall ambience was chill. Don't come expecting bougie food or ambience just come if you're hungry.

Margie B.

Yelp
I have had many meals from this place and enjoyed most of them. Today was not one of those days. My husband picked up lunch for me as a surprise. He ordered a grouper filet, rice and beans and a side salad. I have never enjoyed their beans so he got them for himself, that's ok. The filet was covered in grilled onions, too many, that were speckled with what looked like burnt scrapings from the flat grill top. I slid them off and whoa! the smell of musty fish engulfed my sinuses. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I tried a bite, nope-could not continue. The entire bottom of the filet still had flaccid skin and a THICK bloodline which permeated the entire filet. So unfortunate, my husband gets the 5 stars for his valiant effort to surprise me with lunch!

Todd B.

Yelp
Omg soooooooooo good Especially for a little dive seafood market Has outside seating tables Food is cheap Big portions of fish You can get whole fish grilled (snapper) Grouper filet was to die for Shrimp w creole sauce were delicious Only some minote fish? For kid was only thing not amazing Great fish market for fresh fish to take home I will return Star rating

James L.

Yelp
Fish lovers, and seafood lovers in general, be warned, this place will have you driving to Hialeah more often than you ought to or want to! Heads or Tails is extremely hard to top when it comes to value for money and great fresh fish. It would be very easy and justified to just throw 5 stars here, but I will divulge, and just subtly mention one ever so slight negative....the majority of the seating here is outdoors and nine months out of the year the Miami weather will leave you sticky, sweaty and uncomfortable; HOWEVER, the astounding food, portion sizes and prices will make you gladly sweat away!!!! There are so many options at Heads or Tails so I will simply stick to a few of my favorites. The fried snapper is simply out of this world, for $8.99 and accompanied by THREE sides, it is a bargain that's hard to be beat. Today I also sampled the fish soup and ceviche appetizer and couldn't find a fault. Heads or Tails also doubles as a market and offers fresh fish/seafood to go. I could honestly write on and on all day about this place but simply saying...."GO TRY IT"...is probably the best way to summarize!

Michelle F.

Yelp
Good food but not much options for people who don't like fish.the outside area has flies and gets very jot to sit in but it's manageable. This spot has been here for years in the area and they aren't going anywhere either! glad to see them doing so well!

Sonia A.

Yelp
Best fish sandwich in Hialeah!!!! And super cheap! I love coming here with my mom after a long day shopping together. We stopped here for some Minutas (fish sandwiches) and some fish soup! All for $3.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You cannot beat that! The staff knows my mom so they're really friendly and the place is always packed with local people! You have to get there before 6 pm, they're closing time! Plenty of parking in the back.

Ernie T.

Yelp
I went today Friday with wife and son for lunch, had to wait over an hour to be served. The fritters of cod fish were burned not to mention my yellow tail fish. I will never go back. Ernie T.

Yogi Y.

Yelp
This was a great find, seating is scarce inside but should find seating outside is you don't mind the heat. Trust me i was so focused on the food that I forgot the heat. Red snapper fried with rice and B/beans.

Michael F.

Yelp
One of my top favs for whole fried fish. This restaurant has existed for as long as I can remember , which is nearly 20 years; tucked away in a commercial neighborhood of Hialeah/ liberty city. You can select items from the seafood market and tell them exactly which one you want them to cook for you and how you want it cooked. Best seafood.

Lucy E.

Yelp
Fresh seafood market. Choose your fish at the fish counter and they will cook it for you. Ordered the special, whole fried snapper cooked to order. This a cafeteria style restaurant/market. They have prepared ceviche to go and eat at the restaurant or take your fish home for cooking. They have whole fish, rounds and filets to choose from. Great fish selection! The yuca was delicious and the fish was cooked just right. Sat at counter where you can watch them cook up your meal. Rice and other sides are pre-prepared. They have an outdoor seating area in the back. Probably a good place to sit if you want to avoid leaving with a fish scent on your clothes. I suppose otherwise it's unavoidable with type of setup. I The restroom needed tending to. We received good service. Overall, it's a great place to enjoy a fast fresh fish lunch.

Banana P.

Yelp
Food here is always fresh very delicious their soups tilapia salad and everything I gave you is always so good

Blacrai B.

Yelp
I went to head or tail today and felt like there was a death in the family. They clearly have a new cook or the main cook was off today. The fried jumbo shrimp were greasy and the batter horrible with all the oil. The yellow rice was over cooked and starchy. I have been coming here for years that is why I know the difference in cooks and this cook will cost them business. I am so hurt and to afraid to go back or recommend to all my out of town friends. so disappointed. Anybody know where the old cook is working now?

Blerina V.

Yelp
Excellent place we just finished lunch and the food is fresh well prepared, the service is amazing. The place is not fancy but very true. And very reasonably priced

Damian H.

Yelp
This is my favorite fish market and restaurant in Miami FL. The best part is that you get to choose the fish you want from the fish market first and then they'll cook it either fried or grilled. Delicious and tasty.

Roberto R.

Yelp
If you like seafood and you work on the area this is the perfect place to go for lunch. The food is fresh and the service is fast, combined with the great prices that they have. I definitely recommend this place.

Jami R.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. Came here after working on a Habitat home. Everything we had was awesome and we ate a lot! I I don't know why it's got negative reviews... i will say the place and menu is overwhelming but we spoke to the waitress and asked her what's good. Man, did we order a lot! This is the way Garcia's used to be... just fun, casual, good food, and good portions -- of course there's no river here but you got an outdoor patio in the back. The place is always busy. We got seats at the bar and enjoyed the food, the beer, and the talk around us. We ordered: Frituras De Bacalao, Shrimp Creole with rice and plantains, a whole grilled fish, tostones, and a couple of beers. Everything was delicious and we had enough food to take home with us!

Daphne A.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I went on a Saturday at noon and it started to get a little packed, so you know this place has to be good. Sure the location is around a bunch of warehouses but it's worth giving it a chance. The service was great and the fried snapper was delicious and cheap. $8.99 for fried snapper and 3 sides! You can't beat that deal.

Lazaro P.

Yelp
Place is a in a sketchy neighborhood but the food is awesome and you can't beat the price the servings are big and the food is fresh. Try the fish tacos

Denise H.

Yelp
We ordered take out for 5 people. everything came hot and nicely cookes for everyone. You can order the size snapper you want. I ordered a smaller size to my suprise it was a perfect size. This was by far one of the best red snappers I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly!! It was not over breaded, had a light crisp with flaky white meat. I started to eat it with my fingers vs a fork. The rice was not to my liking. I am not sure what the spice was maybe saffron but I did not care for it. The fish alone was far too filling. I was full for at least 5hrs. I tried the cream of lobster soup. This also had the spice in it but it was not overpowering. Overall great takeout!!

Terry L.

Yelp
One of my hidden gems based in Hialeah! This place may not be much to look at but the food is good folks! This restaurant/seafood market sits in the wonderful city of Hialeah right after the train tracks and you can't miss it as its a sea colored blue building. The front of the building does not have a lot of parking so you may have to drive around the corner to the back of the building which is also the area for outside seating! The inside of this place also has countertops with stools for seating and several stand alone high top tables with seats as well. Half of the side of the store is a cafe where the food is cooked and there is a glass inclosed case with already prepared foods and the other side of the store is a seafood market where you can select raw seafood and have it packaged to take home or you can select it and have it grilled/fried. I typically start at the seafood market, select a whole red snapper, have it filleted and then fried to perfection with getting white rice and black beans! I don't know what season they use for the fried fish but it is on POINT and the fish is never over or under done! I also have had the Minuta Fish Sandwich which means that they butterfly cut the fish and leave the tail intact, I must admit that although the fish was seasoned correctly, the fish didn't seem as fresh as the filet that I obtained from the seafood market portion but at the same time I did take the sandwich to go and ate it much later so that could be the reason, so I'll have to try it again! Overall, it's a great place to fulfill your seafood needs, the seafood market works quickly and they are friendly. I have not dined in but would not be opposed to it and they seem to always have a crowd when I go. Check them out and enjoy yourself!

Richard D.

Yelp
A diamond in the rough. Really great place and very reasonable prices. I hate to tell everyone but they deserve a excellent write up. The yellow rice is to die for. I wish I could eat here every day. You can dine inside or sit out side under the covered area. GREAT PLACE !

Alvaro L.

Yelp
Excellent food very fresh, incredible prives, you can even pick your raw fish from the market and have it cooked to your liking.

Edward H.

Yelp
A great seafood restaurant. I had king fish fried. it was not overcooked. service was excellent too. the place closed at 7pm on a Friday night. this surprised me a bit but the place is a market first

Peter L.

Yelp
Best fish sandwich I've had. For $5 I was expecting a sample. It was a very good size portion with a great taste. I wanted to order another immediately. I went back 2 days in a row! Definitely would recommend this place

Montserrat A.

Yelp
Excellent seafood in a casual no frills outdoor setting. The shrimp scampi was tasty. Outstanding spicy slaw.

Carlos O.

Yelp
Fried snapper for 8.99 and two sides where else can you find this at that price and taste, all fresh. Had the crema de pescado and it was good..the lobster bisque is better at least for me. I've heard that the minuta de snapper is great too. If you want fresh seafood this is the place to go.

Joanna M.

Yelp
If you're local and are near by wanting to have some seafood at a decent price, then Heads or Tails is the place for you. Friendly service, they'll explain the types of fish they have and answer whatever questions you have. The quality of the food was ok, nothing spectacular but just a decent ok. I ordered the dolphin filet- blackened which was divine. And my husband had the king fish which was - meh! King fish wasn't well seasoned had too much of the fishy taste and in my opinion not well cooked. We also ordered the cod fritters, conch fritters and fried calamari as appetizers and out of the 3 of those, the cod were the ones with the better taste. Overall, will I come back - yes. Just don't think I'll order the same things again.

Natasha G.

Yelp
Always good! I get the same thing, if it ain't broken, don't fix it! Funny because I love food and trying new things but I'll stick to the fried snapper, white rice, black beans, and sweet plantains! All of that for less than $10!!! Can't beat that!
