Saturday night, feeling lazy, let's go for Burgers. Equidistant between London Bridge and Southwark, I suggest a detour and walk by the river to wet your appetite.
Heard has a good system for ordering take-outs at the entrance with Touchscreen etc. We had reserved so were nicely shown to our table inside the restaurant. There are also plenty of tables outside protected from the wind but probably better for a sunny lunch.
We are in luck, there is extra burger on the menu. A collaboration with a Michelin Chef, the main menu is also strong. Most are smash burgers but also a thick(ish) patty option.
We ordered 3 burgers, mine was the Soho.
One of the cornerstone of the burger is the sour pickle and there were three of them in their standard burger. In my case, I was pleasantly surprised to hit a base sauce made of tarragon, mayo and finely chopped vinegar based small gherkins. It elevated my burger and to top things a small pot of peppercorn sauce to enjoy with your fries or pour on the burger. Simply genius.
The team seemed understaffed as we had to go and chase the server a couple of times for things but always got served within a minute of finding our server.
The atmosphere? It pretty is loud with an extra hard reverb due to bouncy ceiling so not a long stay option. Sitting outside looked pleasant.
The desert was an Ice cream sandwich, which looked creative and cool but tasted dry and average.
Heard's Burgers are competitively priced and excellent value.
Verdict: Very clever burgers, probably more of a spring summer hangout. I will be back.
