"Eating at Hearts is the equivalent of getting a hug from that one friend who always wears a cardigan with the subtle scent of vetiver. Everything about this East Nashville cafe screams (but with its inside voice) cozy, from the earthy woods and potted plants to the numerous windows letting sunshine into the space. It’s a soothing spot to catch up with a good friend at the week’s end with Australian dishes like Anzac biscuits, bircher muesli, ricotta hotcakes, and, of course, smashed avo toast. Throw in a flat white, and you might as well be hanging in Melbourne." - jackie gutierrez jones 2, ann walczak
"It’s rare to find a place that does a great brunch, has outdoor space, and also serves excellent cocktails. Hearts in East Nashville manages to do all three very well. That’s less surprising when you realize that one of the owners co-founded Attaboy and invented the paper plane cocktail. The menu here offers more than just your typical brunch drinks like mimosas and bloody marys, although those are good, too. Look for their spritzes—we’re big fans of the one with Cynar and passionfruit—which are all suited for drinking on the private, canopied patio." - adam sloan
"Hearts brings a piece of the prolific Melbourne breakfast scene to Nashville, offering a damn good Aussie spread featuring lots of eggs, lots of avocado, and some corn and zucchini fritters thrown in for good measure. Other menu highlights include muesli with chia seeds, berries, and candied almonds, turkish eggs covered in garlicky yogurt, and decadent ricotta hotcakes with strawberry and rhubarb compote. Hearts has two locations in town, but the East Nashville one is our favorite, thanks to the large shaded outdoor patio that’s perfect for sipping a honey rose latte on a breezy summer morning." - bailey freeman, ann walczak
"WHEN: Every day, 2-5pm THE DEAL: Half off all bottles of wine, $35 pitchers of spritzes, beer + shot specials Hearts should be your go-to, kind-of-healthy Happy Hour in 12 South. They serve brunch all day and specialize in Australian wines, so you can order some cold-smoked salmon toast or eggs benny for the table with half-priced bottles of wine and six different spritz pitchers. Pay special attention to the M&M Royale—it’s their bubbly riff on a mezcal and amaro Montenegro shot, with fresh lemon juice and cava." - adam sloan
