Second time going and my expectations were once again blown away!!!! The burger was juicy with a nice soft brioche bun and a beef patty cooked to perfection. The flavors were on point!! The lamb chops and curly fries perfect! The banana pudding wasn’t the traditional southern nana pudding but it was still really good. Imagine a cream cheese version with the vanilla wafers and bananas. I would 100% recommend this place. Pricing is more than fair!

Excellent Soul food! We had the fish basket. It came with fried catfish, potato wedges, 2 pieces of toast and a remoulade type sauce. The catfish and potato wedges were seasoned and fried to perfection. The toast was an excellent addition to make a little fried catfish sandwich. We definitely recommend💯

It’s a strange area, out there where the geese land and cold river winds blow. Feels kind of like a no man’s land of sorts, the Delta Park playing fields close by, the marshes, the river, the houseboats. I’d been meaning to go to Heavy Plays for a long time and was excited, wanted to like it, wanted it to be a treasure in the wasteland, a place to stop on the way back from Portland. Last call so to speak. So I got the basket of shrimp and they were ok. Just ok. They didn’t light a spark of joy in my heart, excite me like a shooting star on clear night. By the time I finished the meal I debated leaving the last one. They weren’t bad, just not great. They lacked umami. They lacked depth. The Fries were Ok too, not bad… a little better than the shrimp, but that’s in the nature of fries. They are potatoes, they are bland by nature. They in the highlight of the meal, but shouldn’t have been. To be fair this is personal taste and someone else might find that food fantastic, but it didn’t capture my imagination, I wish it did. And on to the place itself. It didn’t feel particularly, welcoming to me. The seating kind of awkward, the fountain machine out of order, the floor not terribly clean, it just felt, kind of not ready. Heavy Plays is in an internet dead zone and I asked if they had a WiFi network and they said yes and referred me to a sign with the password. After entering said password, my phone informed me that their WiFi was not connected to the internet. The owner’s reaction was kind of odd, instead saying “Can I help you?” she said, “ What can I say?” And shrugged her shoulders. And there I was standing there holding my phone like I was holding a dirty diaper, I felt I suddenly became invisible. Well I figured it out, but it felt strange like, You’re on your own here. Overall it just didn’t feel welcoming for me at Heavy Plays. I can see they really believe in their food and put their heart into it. It’s well prepared, just not to my taste. For me, it was bland. I’m sure for someone else it would be perfect. For a team coming off the fields excited by a game, although pricey it would be the catch of the day, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic date or a place to savor a meal of complex flavors. The fruit drink was great!

This place was a most welcome surprise. I was on my way to back to hotel after a long rough day working and I happened to stop at this place. It had populated in my maps when I searched restaurants along my route on Google maps. I ordered the heavy gumbo. It took about 20 mins to make but it was incredible. I was shocked at how yummy it was. And can i tell you there was an entire lobster tail in that thing!!! Plus crab legs, shrimp and a whole lot of chicken and sausage. For a small place that wasn't over the top eye catching I'd go back in a heartbeat for their yummy food.

Yooooo, now THIS is the spot!! They have a great menu, ranging from plates, Poboys, burgers, and even really good looking salads! I love that there’s a dedicated parking lot so you don’t have to worry about finding street parking or paying. There’s plenty of seating and good lighting! I ordered a catfish poboy (which comes with wedge fries) and a side of greens. Technicallyyyy the greens are only served on Sundays (as well as mac and cheese and spaghetti - note to self, come back on Sunday!), but i got lucky and they happened to have greens! Now the taste - everything was soooo good 😭 like the catfish was seasoned to perfection, the fries were the perfect amount of fried (not burnt OR raw, blesss) and heck even the freaking fry sauce was delicious. I also ordered their special lemonade punch and it was empty after two sips. And the greens? I had vowed to never eat greens ever again in Oregon…but one bite in and now I have a spot to get greens. I had forgotten how much I missed my favorite side, thank you Heavy Plays for giving them back to me😩🙏🏽 The service was great as well. I believe the owner was working when I was in, and he was really nice and friendly. I felt extremely welcomed and I can’t wait to go back. If you haven’t been already, get ready to find a new favorite!
