The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week | Eater LA

"I drove out to this carefully curated pop-up for a backyard Baja‑Valle–inspired meal with mezcal cocktails, custom playlists, and a gorgeous candle-lit patio; the Hokkaido scallop crudo with orange, yuzu, and chile was delicate and balanced, and other standouts included octopus with chicharron gremolata, a marlin taco, and a pork chop with pickled mustard seed — all prepared over a custom fire pit." - Eater Staff

Google
I came here for the first time, and I love me some tacos! These tacos are definitely in the top 3 that I've ever had! I had the filet, the rib eye and the shrimp tacos. All 3 of them were absolutely DELICIOUS! Both meats were so tender and flavorful. The shrimp taco was incredible. The shrimp were flavorful and cooked perfectly. The sauce on the shrimp taco was the perfect touch. I will definitely be coming back. Just be prepared to wait! The line is out the door for a reason, and the wait for a table was 10 minutes. Don't let that stop you though! It was definitely worth the wait!

Went to this place and it was good. Seen it on social media. The place was nice and clean. You can smell the grilled meats as you walk up. The service was great and courteous. I ordered 2 asada, 2 adobada, and 2 chorizo. They were good, but I thought the asada needed more seasoning or maybe it was my taste buds. But the meats were tender. They give you grilled onions and chiles güeros upon request.. The horchata was good. They have 3 tiers of meat quality, that is what determines the price per taco or burrito. Their high tier was a ribeye meat taco that was $7.99 ea. I couldn't get myself to pay for it. But I'll give it another try. But please stop by and give it a try!

Google
The taste and quality of the food is excellent. My wife tried the loaded potato “popota” the last time we were there and it was so good and definitely share size. The mulita is good and the tacos have a generous amount of meat and are always on point. This is our new favorite taco spot in the area.

Google
It was a full house with a line out the door, and I understood why, as soon as I took my first bite. Outstanding food and fair portions... I loved the Al Pastor Burrito. I'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend this place!

Google
It's been a while since I've found a taco spot that has not just one or two good meats, but all the meats that Hecho Al Carbon made were delicious, flavorful, and distinct! I went in for dinner so there was already a line out the door but, surprisingly, it moved fairly quickly and we were able to snag a table just as another group was leaving. [ ORDERING ] Ordering was easy, simply walk up to the counter, peruse their digital menu board, and order there. The cashier will then give you a number. Take your number with you and find a table to sit in. Once your entire order is ready, they will bring the food to your table and collect your number. With the menu font being so small, I would suggest to the owners possibly making the font larger and having the menu display switch out every few slides so that people in the back of the line can view the menu -or- when business has picked up, buy additional TV monitors to have the menu displayed near the back so people entering will have an idea of what they want to order. The latter would make for quicker transactions at the counter. [ FOOD & DRINKS ] As I mentioned in my intro, the meats were delicious and they all had a different flavor, which I appreciated. In order to get a good idea of their food, we ordered a little of everything: * Surf & Turf Burrito with Arrachera - The Arrachera (skirt steak) was paired with juicy shrimp wrapped in a burrito. There was no need for additional sauce. * La Papota (Baked Papota) with Adobada - The marinated pork (Adobada) meat was more seasoned than the Arrachera. It had some coloring to it as it came out red but it was very bold in flavor. Just delicious. This was shared between our group and had to take most of it home. It's very heavy and easily shareable. We topped it with cilantro, onions, salsa, and guacamole (separate order). What a great value! * Guacamole and Chips: The guac here was more of a paste made to top tacos. It was still good but it's not the usual chunky style guac that I'm used to. Still great though! * Arrachera Taco - The meat was chunky and really tender. No hard pieces at all. It was delicious and it wasn't over salted. I topped it with the guac and salsa, cilantro and onions and lime juice. So good! * Chicken Tacos with Cheese (extra) - While the cheese cost extra, it enhanced this taco like a mini quesadilla. It would even be fine without the extra taco. The chicken was good. It wasn't dry either. It had a good grilled flavor to it. * Refried Beans - I'm picky with refried beans and these were really delicious. Great consistency and it wasn't dry. It had good color to it too. It is really creamy. * Cucumber Lime (Pepino con Limón) Agua Fresca - I enjoyed the chunks of cucumber and this was very citrusy. I liked that it wasn't sweet like others make them. Definitely a great cup of limeade! [ ATMOSPHERE ] The atmosphere is casual but lively. There’s music playing in the background but you can still hear people within your table. Looking around, everyone seemed to be enjoying their food and company. [ SERVICE ] Our orders came out pretty quick and the gentleman who brought out our food was really nice. The cashier was friendly. And the workers were quick to clean up tables. [ LOCATION ] They are located near the Walmart and WaBa Grill on Canyon Springs Parkway, just west of Day Street in Riverside - borders Moreno Valley. Overall, this is a solid taco shop with quality meats and delicious eats! Great food, worth the wait, and decent prices, and good workers!

Google
Best Surf and Turf burrito in CALI!!!! Got it with the arachera and premium shrimp, topped it with both salsa verdes and a squirt of lime. And Drank it down with a Jarritos de mandarina, it doesn’t get any better. The tortilla is perfect, the chile adds the perfect spice and the shrimp just pops in your mouth. Arachera was cooked perfectly, juicy and crispy with a smoky finish from the carbon. 10/10 can’t wait to come again.

Katrina G.

Google
Amazing food, great taste, good music playing and the staff has been wonderful each and every time I’ve come. I’d love for the salsa counter to be a bit bigger but not a complaint by any means. We like all of the meats.

Jessi R.

Google
Honestly about time a found some good tacos around here. Delicious and fresh. Tortilla handmade and normal small size tacos. I give them a 10 out of 10 for the area! Also prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast, everyone was extremely helpful and pleasant to be around. The Food was Great, very tasty and full of flavor, and portions were filling. The ambiance was lively and established was busy, fast paced but in no way trying to rush anyone out. Definitely Recommend!!!

Yelp
This is a gem of a resturant tucked away in a little corner between the Moreno Valley/Riverside boarder. It shares a parking lot with the Walmart and neighbors the RoundTable. First impressions the resturant was very clean; inside, outside, and in the bathroom. There is also an outside seating area in front of the resturant. The service staff are very friendly and their service style is speedy and fresh. Pricing is affordable, especially with the quality of meat offered. Portion sizes are also fair. I ordered a asada burrito and very much enjoyed it. I think their rice and beans need a little work. The burrito was also more rice and beef than anything else, but I was still happy. They also have a very nice salsa bar, which is well stocked and very tasty.

Yelp
Omg first time trying it felt in love the Meat has so much flavor exactly what the name says al carbon.. hands down 10/1000. We came the second time so far the food has not disappointed same flavor very consistent... What ever you guys are doing keep it up ...
google avatar

Yelp
It's all about the meats. Hecho Al Carbon has three different categories of meats. Each category has its own price range. They have just about every taco you can imagine. They even have a Filet Mignon taco. The food comes out quickly and they have a wide array of salsas to choose from.

Yelp
We saw an Instagram video asking if this was the best taco spot in the IE, so of course we had to check it out. We happened to be nearby on a Friday and decided to stop in. It was relatively busy, as expected, but nothing too crazy. The restaurant gave us Tacos Los Cholos vibes (if you're familiar with the OC spot), with similar meat options and a laid-back, welcoming ambiance. The main difference was the wait time. Our food was ready within 10 to 20 minutes, which was a nice surprise. We tried the asada, arrachera, and adobada tacos, plus a few tacos with cheese (highly recommend the arrachera and cheese combo), and a surf and turf burrito. Everything was delicious, but the adobada tacos stood out as my personal favorite. We even placed a second order to go with more ribeye and arrachera tacos, plus some fresas con crema. As for the cost, it's comparable to fast-casual spots, and pricing really depends on what you order. We spent around $70 to feed four people, including drinks, and our second round of tacos was about $30. All in all, totally worth it. We will definitely be back and highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
We tried this place based on looking at what was around us after doing some shopping. My friend looked it up and saw that it was pretty popular and we checked it out. We had a meal here two days in a row. On day one I had the Al Pastor burrito with a chorizo taco and a Carne Asada taco with a drink which was roughly $22. Service was good and fast. There was plenty of seating and great music playing. They have a fresh salsa bar with plenty of different condiments for your liking. I really enjoyed the cream based chipotle sauce. On the second day when we felt a hankering for good Mexican food again and went back and got the loaded potato filled with butter cheese and Carne Asada. I also attempted another Al Pastor burrito again and was overwhelmed with how much food we got. This time I also got the grilled onions and chilies with it. If you live near this place, you need to check it out. Hands-down one of the best places I've eaten at in Moreno Valley.

Yelp
overpriced for so-so "prime" meat. ribeye was fatty. guac only came in large size and those to go cups. no complimentary chips. beans are no good
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
Holy moly the tacos were so good! The girls are so sweet and patient helping me order. Great Customer Service. I had a quick lunch meeting and we beat the rush. Had plenty of seating. For a family or a quick bite to eat. I will be return soon with my hubby and kids. Oh they have a salsa bar I suggest ordering the chip and guacamole and trying out the salsa with your tacos. So good.

Yelp
Must try the Premium surf and turf burrito. It's loaded with so much meat and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Super saucy, and tasty. I didn't have to add any sauces because it was so dang tasty. The side of beans were amazing. Refried beans that is. The staff were friendly and got the order right. The line was out the door and the lady taking orders kept her cool. The food came out pretty quickly. And they give you a pretty good portion of their meats. I would definitely bring my fam and friends to try this place. The sauces, cilantro, lime, onion, and raddish station were self serve. I wished it were pre-packed and ready to grab. The line to get sauces can get long too. I didn't take any pics, I was way too hungry to take them. My receipt is attached.

Yelp
Been seeing this place pop up a lot on my Instagram decided to come check them out. They are definitely a Tacos Los Cholos / Prime Cut Taqueria duplicate. Menu is almost the same but there's nothing wrong with that. I will say that surf and turf burrito is absolutely delicious. They don't skimp out on the portions of protein. The loaded potato was good but nothing crazy. My only real complaint with this restaurant is that they wait times for the food are too long and since the restaurant is small, it's really hard to find seating. If you are in the area, check them out!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
This place is busy! It used to be the old Burger Boss so it's not very big inside. It's decently clean for how busy it is. Since the inside is small, I took a table from a couple that was leaving. It needed to be cleaned so I asked the girl cleaning the table next to us "if I can bother you to please clean this table as well" to which she replied "I was going to do that" but not in like a no problem way, more of a problem way. It seems like all the staff is kinda snippy as another girl taking the order wasn't the friendliest either. The burrito was filling and had large shrimp and plenty of arrachera inside. The chile taco was super tasty and filled with meat too. Definitely worth the drive out!
google avatar

Tippy P.

Yelp
My friend recommended this new taco restaurant that opened by the mall. Hands down, the meats were so good. I ordered only tacos to taste the meat, I noticed there's more options on the menu for types of meat. Such as classic, premium, and prime. The line to order tacos was long. As soon as you pay for your meal, head over to the sauce station and pack yourself some onions, cilantro, limes, and hot sauces. It was a full house, we decided to order take-out. Their theme colors are red and black. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.
google avatar

Rose P.

Yelp
I grew up next to the border so getting delicious and authentic tacos was a normal thing. We walked in and instantly that smell of the meat cooking was so familiar. I ordered a chilataco and a vampire, both asada. My husband got the OG taco, chilataco and two regular asada tacos. Neither of us could finish our food. I ate about 2/3 of one and a bite of the other. When I tell you they hook these up, they hook them up. The OG tacos were so fire definitely worth the price. Service was good. Expect to have a small wait if you come during lunch hours but it's super worth it.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
The Food Is Very Delicious and Full Feeling. The Carbon Taste Hits!!! Good Portions The ambiance is busy and packed but worth it. The cashiers were very helpful with the menu.
google avatar

Phillip R.

Yelp
Very good tasting burrito and tacos, especially on the char of the meat so tasty. salsas Are so good as well .
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! The minute I tasted the rib eye taco I was in heaven! It looks so plain in the photo with just meat and cheese but I swear I could have eaten it plain, I didn't, but I could have! The carne asada was so flavorful too... I'm definitely coming back earlier next time so I can try a potato!!!
google avatar

Iliana R.

Yelp
OHHH THAT EFFING OG TACOOO HAD ME THINKING OF WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT. And it's pretty big too. I will say the arrachera was seasoned well!! Shout out!!! Personally the costilla taco was least fav it kinda tasted old but like I still ate it. Buttt also I luv the salsa bar!
google avatar

Lalo R.

Yelp
The taste of the food! Fresh and tasty, good salsas and friendly service. Good selection of meats and sides.
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
Food is super tasty. Fresh warm and comes out fast. Staff was super friendly and place was clean. This is a premium restaurant so don't get offended by the premium pricing. If you don't value flavor this place isn't for you. Portions are nice. Guac and chips portion was huge. Actual Mexican cokes and Hispanic music in the background sets the mood perfectly. Make me think of Cabo. Super good. Fast moving polite staff. Definitely coming back. Family of 3 we spent $52 ish. See you soon
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
The food is honestly really bland, and the salsa needs some work. No spice and no flavor unfortunately, I was super excited to try this new spot but I'm sure they still have stuff to work out. Found this place in Tik tok cause it was hyped up but honestly I would not go again it was pretty expensive for what it is. The people there are super nice though, and service was good. Inside had a basic menu, and some places to sit down with a self serve salsa bar. The restraunt is clean inside.
google avatar

Tiffany P.

Yelp
I might come back but not sure. I ordered an asada huarache it was like a quesdilla. They had a salsa bar which had great salsa. I ordered grilled jalapeño and onion and it was cold, do not order. My husband ordered surf and turf burrito he enjoyed. Service was OK definitely can improve. They forgot my grilled jalapeño and onion and went to ask for it, the cashier turned and asked the guy in the kitchen he grabbed a plate and put onions and jalapeño it was so cold I didn't even eat it. It's not expensive but it does cost extra. They have options for types of meat, they have filet mignon and Ribeye. I got traditional asada. The tortillas were super soft but still not sure if I'd go back.

Solia A.

Yelp
Tacos are great ! Mushroom quesadilla is amazing ! One of our fav taco spots in the IE!
google avatar

A A.

Yelp
Burritos are small Tacos are meaty Overall meat were delicious. There's about 7 salsa at the bar.
google avatar

Gladys M.

Yelp
I was recommended this place by my brother he raved about it. I finally gave it a try and it was good I'm just disappointed at the fact that I paid $8.50 for one taco and a huge chunk of the meat was fat. I would want to give it another try at some point though.
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
Delicious! Side of guac is huge and the surf and turf is very good! The service is great and I enjoyed everything
google avatar

Ash T.

Yelp
Came here for dinner tonight and honestly, it was lacking in some areas. The carne asada was overcooked, and the tortillas just didn't taste right. If you've ever been to Los Cholos in Anaheim, this spot feels like they tried to copy the concept but missed the mark. The pork belly was the biggest letdown--no crispiness at all, just chewy and rubbery not sure how anyone gave them a five star review
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Tacos are pretty good and they have great Service. They can get really busy and it's a little expensive but it's pretty good quality food.
google avatar

Nissie G.

Yelp
Reasonable prices. Very smoky. Limited seating. Food was great though. Good meat selection.
google avatar

Jay L.

Yelp
The meat is delicious I'll give them that. Too pricey, an agua de piña & a coke, $10 something! Just for two drinks. The agua de piña tasted like it was from the day before & they added more sugar to make it taste better but it didn't help. The loaded potato isn't really a "loaded potato" IYKYK.
google avatar

Airam D.

Yelp
Service was great and food was delicious. The meat had so much flavor. It reminded me the street tacos in Mexico.
google avatar

Sebastian L.

Yelp
This place is delicious. This is like our third time coming here. Although the tacos are small, they're loaded with meat and the taste is delicious. I usually get asada, adobada, and chorizo. I've also tried the tortas and the La Papota. Honestly you can't go wrong. The aguas are good too. Prices are fair but they do charge a fee for paying with a card so bring cash if you can. We will definitely keep coming back.
google avatar

Pretty E.

Yelp
After hearing so much hype about this place and how it's way better than casa tacos. I finally gave it a try today with high expectations from what I've heard. While the service was friendly and fast for how busy it was. Our burritos were honestly a let down. We got one asada and one " arrachera "rice had no flavor and burrito was dry. The carne asada one was like carne seca and way over cooked. Also the horchata was flavorless and tasted like water. Salsas are good
google avatar

Veronica D.

Yelp
The reality to their promotion.......... expectations were higher since they promoted real guacamole, and it was never there. You have to prepare your own tacos, which is also a down for me, cause they serve just a plane taco and it doesn't look appealing. Guacamole is not given unless you pay an extra $5 for a side. Meat is okay, salsas are good. Drinks are good. But... i would not come back. I would rather keep going to Coyote Taqueria in Menifee.. they got real guacamole, and they're real tacos.
google avatar

Edward Y.

Yelp
First time coming in. Got some adobada tacos, asada tacos and their aquas. Was told about this place by a friend and it is DEFINITELY A MUST TRY. Flavors were amazing. Salsa were delicious. And the vibe was on point. Staff was friendly. Definitely going to come back. Definitely will be recommending to people
google avatar

Teresa B.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. We ordered the La Popapa which is a huge baked potato topped with like a fried cheese and meat. It was so big! Definitely enough for 2 meals and it was piping hot! They gave us complimentary grilled onions and peppers as well. The salsa bar has several different sauces and salsas. All were very very flavorful and ranged from mild to very hot. I appreciate the many options. We also ordered the cucumber lime agua Fresca which was delish. Service was great as we were checked on several times. Would definitely come back again!

Alyssa B.

Yelp
First time here! I asked the staff for recommendations, we went with 2 of them. I ordered the Ribeye papota it was so good, the meat melted in my mouth. My husband also ordered the Ribeye burrito and it was also very good. I liked that the Salsa bar had a verity of options and they also served us grilled onions and chile gueros. They have bottled sodas and agua fresca for drink Options. We'll be back for sure

Erika A.

Yelp
Feels like I'm at a family backyard party . Food is absolutely authenticity delicious. Friendly staff. The music in the background feels right and that smell from the kitchen..... can you smell it? Mesquite charcoal. Definitely going in my book for a return trip when I'm in the neighborhood again.
google avatar

Erii B.

Yelp
The food is soo good the service was amazing. Great costumer service ! Will be back soon

Meka T.

Yelp
The last time I came to this restaurant I ordered the surf n turf burrito. it was very goo. I Went back to night to get another surf n turf burrito and it was not good. As I was eating it I kept biting into fat. I opened the burrito up and the majority o, what was supposed to be meat was fat. Pics are below On the left is fat and on the right was the meat portion. For the price I payed I was very disappointed .
google avatar

Jesus A.

Yelp
Best taco spot in moval no questions asked comparable to tacos Los cholos. I stay across town and pay the premium it's 100% worth it. Great service. Great ambiance.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Was very excited to try this new place, read the reviews and was eager to try. I had the asada, pollo, and adobada tacos, and pork belly mulita. The meats were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The customer service was top notch , eager to answer any questions. It was a Saturday afternoon so it was busy, but they kept the tables clean quickly. Very good choices on hot sauces and good taste. There were a few guests upset by no tables being open inside , but that's a good thing rite? People in the seats mean food is good. They also have outside seating as an option. Can't wait to go back and try something different. Owner/management have done a great job.
google avatar

Veronica L.

Yelp
Second time here and yet to be disappointed. I no reviews are hard to trust but best believe close to home tender good food. Torta burrito tacos what ever. So so good
google avatar

Belen P.

Yelp
I ordered burrito de asada and a torta de asada. I would say the burrito was pretty good size and filled with plenty meat. I'm not sure about another review stating the burrito was small. I would say I was not a fan of the torta due to the bread they used , I was expecting either birote or a telera. I regret not ordering the potato preparada instead I saw another customer order it and it was pretty decent loaded. They have a self serve salsa bar plenty to choose from. Their horchata was delicious can tell is homemade not like other places that use powders.
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
Want to try out this new taco place in Riverside . I saw it in Instagram and was hyped up. Thinking everything was going to be delicious like on their page! So we get there, we ordered. The tacos are very expensive, very small, and once we got our order. The tacos were cold, the meat was cold.! And I ordered port belly taco. And the taco was not up to par.

Dinora D.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but sadly cannot. I drove 30 mins there and 30 mins back. Wasted one hour to get home and have to try a dry burrito. There were no salsas or limes. Is it not common practice to include this in a to-go order? Killed the whole mood. Couldn't never eat. Update: Why would I go to the salsa bar if my order was to-go? Or why wouldn't the staff give customers a heads up salsas not include. Please go to salsa bar?!!!!!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Food is amazing and service was great! Best tacos in town will be coming back again with family and friends

Christopher A.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurant experiences I've had recently. As soon as you walk in you can smell the meats roasting on the grill. Costumer service was welcoming and fast. They provided a selection of salsa on the side all of which were excellent. Food came out quick and I couldn't believe the portion sizes. I'm a big eater and couldn't finish. Overall an absolute must try.

Jeanelle P.

Yelp
We were so excited to try this spot as it came recommended by a few friends. The facility is nice and clean and moderately busy which is always a good sign. While standing in line we were asked numerous times by the cashier if we were ready to order. Everytime we would begin to order she would stop helping us and doing other tasks then come back and ask again if we were ready. This repeated probably 3 or 4 times. When we finally ordered we asked if they offered a taco plate and she quickly brushed us off and said no everything is separate. She was not very personable and rushed us through ordering even though there was no one behind us. She instructed us to get our toppings at the salsa bar area. Once we got there there was a different girl restocking salsas and toppings. She saw us standing there and continued to top up pretty much full salsas, not allowing us to get any topping until she was completely done. We took our order to go. I ordered three tacos and TWO were delicious. The meat was so good and the tortillas were also pretty good! When I picked up my last taco I realized there was a long black hair cooked into the meat. It was stuck between two pieces of meat. I tried to call the store and have yet to speak to anyone as they are not answering their phone.
