The shop focuses on improving classics rather than inventing new flavor combinations. — Got the rare beef sandwich, tuna melt & coffee - the portions are generous and really liked the mustard kick on the rare beef sandwich! Service was quick & friendly too, dropped by on a weekday during lunch hour and was totally prepared to get them to-go in case there were no seats but the staff helped us clear a spot for us not long after we placed our order. Will have to return for their donuts & pastries next time. (Photos by @annopano)

📍Hector’s Deli, Fitzroy - 4.3 ⭐️ out of 5. Many of you have urged (in some cases DEMANDED) me to try hector’s, and here I (finally) am. We had the: ➖Toasted beef and pickles with the hectic/ranch added ($17.50 + $2) ➖Tuna melt ($17) We also saw the last donut snatched up in front of us, I was devastateddddd because I have heard such good things. Alas, next time. I really enjoyed my time here. This was definitely helped by the fact that I got to sit at the bar and watch the open kitchen (honestly can we make this mandatory in every restaurant?? I find it so fascinating and fun). On a more serious note, the toasties were so crispy on the outside and buttery and salty (YUM!!). I loveddd the tuna melt so much (I think this just slightly won out between the two). It has a spicy kick at times which was fun and a great amount of mayo. The beef and pickles was also delicious with a very generous serve of pickles, however I can’t help but feel like it may have been dry without the added hectic/ranch which makes me sad. I thought the sizing was very reasonable! Absolutely understand the hype here, although I will say that it’s not my favourite sandwhich in Melbourne (still stands with @carlitos.collingwood ). Overall 4.3 ⭐️ out of 5.

The sandwiches are amazing. We went there for breakfast and really loved it. Our favourite was the beef and pickles toastie. The coffee was also delicious. I definitely recommend trying it. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was quite busy, but with food this good, the crowd is totally understandable 😊

It’s casual, and busy without being stressful, and easy to drop into for lunch. We had the Caesar salad and a chicken sandwich, the standout was the bread, soft, chewy, and clearly made with care. Service is quick and friendly. A good option 🤌 chef kiss

Excellent service and friendly people. Place is huge, much better experince than the South Melbourne branch. Line is better as well and quick. Loved the chicken salad. Mushroom melt has a bit spice which I didn’t like too much but the bread is so good. I need to try the others. Overall, a wonderful experience at Hector’s in Fitzroy. There’s also parking spaces and not too crowded on a public holiday. Loved it, including the coffee.

We had the fries, chicken schnitzel burger, tuna melt, and a cookie. Food was great! Tuna melt was amazing. We devoured the fries. Cookie was awesome. They messed up the order (forgot the cheese on my chicken burger) but that’s only a minor complaint, they took it back and fixed it right away. The iced Mocha was the only disappointing thing we had. There is a bit of a wait for the food but it’s worth it. The atmosphere was relaxed and it very busy and lively. Would definitely recommend. We will be coming back next time we’re in Melbourne.

Just popped in for a quick lunch and coffee.. first time to Hector's. Food and coffee were amazing.... wasn't thinking the coffee would be so good. Chicken burger was yummy, fries perfect and my wife's salami sandwich was great. The cream on top was the service. Don't often get such friendly service in Melbourne. Will be back and would recommend 👏🏽👏🏽

Went there Sunday lunch. A bit busy, but the wait was quicker than expected (shout out to the staff!) Got the rare beef. Served cold. Big portion, not bad, but the sauce was a bit too rich. 8/10, will try the hot press next time.
