Hector's Deli Review - Melbourne - The Infatuation

"There’s no skimping at Hector’s. Not on sandwich size. Not on butter. Not on cheese or any really any other filling, whether you’ve ordered the tuna melt on rye or the fried-eggplant-and-stracciatella number. The corner shop is located in a residential street in Richmond and there’s a South Melbourne offshoot, too, and while Hector’s isn’t technically a deli, the “sangas” are always made fresh. Doughnuts are a new addition and come filled with interesting combos like whipped chèvre and hot honey, or sweet-sour plum jam." - Ellen Fraser

The thing about Hector’s is it’s amazing. The staff work hard to make sure everyone gets served within a reasonable time- so hard to do when it’s always so busy. I’ve never had a bad coffee here. And I think I’ve easily been here over 40 times. If there’s a long line- just join it. It’s worth the wait and they are fast as they can be. Have faith. I miss the eggplant 🍆 Sandwich… hoping it comes back- even for a limited seasonal menu 🥹. For breakfast I recommend: - Egg and Sausage with Hash brown on side. - Tuna Toastie should NOT be over looked. 10/10 Lunch: - Roast pork (think luxury ham sandwich) - Rare Beef, perfect amount of beef 🥩 if you appreciate meat. Dessert: - Maple glazed Doughnuts: holy heck! One time I bought some for my work colleagues and they still talk about them a year later. I love you Hector’s Deli 😘 - Allie, James and Sundae

Hearty toasted sandwich, good and filling!!!! It is perfectly toasted, crispy and not hard. The sandwich has right amount of ingredients in it. Long queue during the weekends. There are seatings outside and inside. Most people buy takeaway and eat it outside. Overall it is quite satisfying.

Today, we decided to have sandwiches for lunch and chose the Mushroom Melt and Beef & Pickle. Both sandwiches were rich in flavor and truly satisfying. The Beef & Pickle sandwich stood out with its thinly sliced beef, generously packed into each bite, perfectly balanced by the tangy crunch of the pickles. The flavors worked together seamlessly, creating a wonderful harmony. The Mushroom Melt was equally impressive, loaded with gooey, cheesy goodness and a generous amount of mushrooms. It was a delicious and hearty lunch, and I’m already looking forward to coming back to try the HCT, Tuna Melt, and Fried Mushroom!

We are on the search for Melbourne's best sandwich. Hector's was recommended, and for good reason, the Reuben's are excellent! Fresh, great ratio of meat vs. sauerkraut. Perfectly toasted. This is a VERY busy restaurant. There were people lining up and waiting out the door. Be prepared to wait. (It is worth it) There is seating inside and some out front but not enough considering how busy they are. A testament to their food. Parking is difficult because of the location but not impossible. I've given a 3 for the atmosphere because there isn't anywhere comfortable to wait. If there are no tables, there are nearby public bench seats.

Hector’s Deli is a casual lunch spot near the South Melbourne market. It offers freshly made sandwiches made to order. I’m not a big eater, so I thought one sandwich could be shared between the two. Perhaps they could offer mini rolls, like those crab rolls you sometimes get at restaurants for entrée. There are several high tables inside and a couple of large benches outside, making it a lovely place to have lunch while soaking up vital vitamin D.

WOW this place is the bomb! George the server is so lovely and knowledgeable about his product. The chicken burger is amazingly delicious! The maple donuts are yummo! The latte was made nicely. Great food in a laid back atmosphere! It’s so busy, what a hidden gem. We will be back

Eaten my way through nearly 40+ sandwich establishments and have to say hectors still takes the cake for the best. The beef and pickle added the hectic sauce is a must. Chicken sandwich is throbbing big which is good and the fries are a 10 and a must. The one in the photo below I believe is just the beef and pickle
