Hector’s Deli offers hearty, gourmet sandwiches in a cozy Richmond corner, with standout fried chicken and irresistible maple donuts to sweeten your meal.
"There’s no skimping on the sandwiches at Hector’s. Not on size. Not on butter. Not on cheese or any other filling, whether you’ve got your eye on the fried chook, the tuna melt, or the ham-cheese-and-tomato, the Aussie school lunchbox classic reimagined here with mortadella and provolone. Doughnuts come maple-glazed or sugar-dusted and sell out by 12pm. Hector’s isn’t technically a deli—the menu is limited to sandwiches, sweets, and coffee—but everything is made fresh. The original Hector’s occupies an old corner store in Richmond and while it’s spawned many imitators, the only other real-deal locations are in South Melbourne, Fitzroy and the city." - Ellen Fraser
"There’s no skimping at Hector’s. Not on sandwich size. Not on butter. Not on cheese or any really any other filling, whether you’ve ordered the tuna melt on rye or the fried-eggplant-and-stracciatella number. The corner shop is located in a residential street in Richmond and there’s a South Melbourne offshoot, too, and while Hector’s isn’t technically a deli, the “sangas” are always made fresh. Doughnuts are a new addition and come filled with interesting combos like whipped chèvre and hot honey, or sweet-sour plum jam." - ellen fraser
"Sandwich shops have been springing up like mushrooms around the city since the beginning of the pandemic, but Hector’s Deli predates the trend. The shop focuses on improving classics rather than inventing new flavor combinations. You’ll find a solid chicken sandwich, for example, consisting of golden schnitzel lathered in tarragon butter, lettuce, and pickle mayo, all overflowing out of a potato bun. Check out the sweets menu for donuts and apple fritters too. The original location is in a residential part of Richmond, and there are two more shops in South Melbourne and Fitzroy." - Audrey Bourget, Sharlee Gibb
