The Cheapest Michelin Star Restaurants For Lunch in the UK & Ireland

"The Lake District is home to many a Michelin-Starred restaurant, but heft is the one to visit if you’re after a good value lunch. It’s also perhaps the most thoroughly Cumbrian of all restaurants up here, with Chef-Owner Kevin Tickle using his knowledge of the local landscape to inform his detailed cooking." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

heft

"This 17C village inn has been sympathetically restored by Cumbrian born-and-bred couple Kevin and Nicola Tickle – and the locals are loving them for it. Kevin’s inspiration for the tasting menu comes from the seasons, the surroundings, his imagination and his local foraging knowledge. They may be described in a playful way on the menu, but the dishes reveal real depth and originality. On certain days all tables are served at the same time, so be prepared to arrive promptly." - Michelin Inspector

We went for the £50 set lunch mid-week and very much enjoyed it. It is interesting and well-prepared food and in general the service was very good. The wine list gets a special mention as it has a lot of interesting wines by the glass. My main criticism would be that they do not have a phone so if you have any last minute issues (which we did) there's no quick way to give them a heads up. Would definitely go again.

We went to Heft for Sunday Dinner full of high expectations. This is not our first time at a Michelin starred restaurant and have been to a few in the area that have been fantastic. We received a warm welcome in the bar on arrival and had drinks whilst we waited for our table. We ordered the beef, which can only be ordered for two people, not individually. All the sides were lovely although I think it’s a bit much that you are charged extra for gravy and it wasn’t that flavoursome! Our biggest issue was the beef. I like my beef rare but only when it is a good piece of beef. Ours had a lot of sinew in it and therefore was not easy to eat. We had a few pieces that were ok but not particularly full of flavour. Both the desserts we had were nice- pavlova and sticky toffee pudding but pretty standard. The staff were efficient but not particularly engaging and just seemed to want to put the food down and go. We really wanted this to be a great experience and it’s such a shame it fell short.

I made this reservation after searching for a nice place to visit to finish our holiday in The Lake District. For us Heft was a 25/30min drive from our accommodation. We were not disappointed, everything from the bread and butter to our desserts was fantastic. We had the Sunday 2 course menu and chose the beef which was melt in the mouth moorish! We ordered additional sides, definitely more than we needed but wanted to try everything that appealed to us. Heft is located in a lovely spot, even if you just wanted to sit outside with a glass of something refreshing. I would definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone in the area to try.

We had a fantastic time visiting Heft enjoying their set dinner - delicious creative food, incredibly tentative and friendly staff going above and beyond plus a beautiful pub with a relaxing atmosphere. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a special meal out.

Nice out of the way place. Decent beer and comfortable bar. We didn't eat but hopefully next time. Somewhat confusing menu. It was pie night. checked online and at location and found 3 different prices. I guess they need to remove the out of date ones. Staff not overly friendly. Said our goodbyes and thanks as we left....nothing. No response.

Me and my partner booked this as our last treat on holiday and it did not disappoint. We had the 2 course Sunday roast and ordered the beef plus sides. It was a large portion and we were able to take what we didn't finish home which we enjoyed just as much the next day! The service is excellent and the wait staff were lovely.

Early evening Sunday dinner was delicious at Heft. We had the hoggett with cauliflower and macaroni cheese; we didn't need the potatoes as portions are generous. Good quality ingredients simply but deliciously done. The absolute stand out of the meal was the sticky toffee pudding which tasted like the hard toffee my grandma used to make - I'd go back just for that. Great wine and friendly service too.

My husband and I travelled an hour and a half to have lunch at Heft and the experience was totally worth it. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and the staff were all very attentive throughout the meal. The food was outstanding, the flavours were incredible and the attention to detail was amazing. All this in a cosy, unstuffy atmosphere. I recommend trying the Botivo mocktail
