Hekate Café & Elixir Lounge

This bar is INCREDIBLE. The vibes, the beverages and the staff - everything about this fine establishment is perfect. It is everything a visiting goth could dream of when hunting for an oasis that feels like home. Booze is all fine and good but honestly the complexity and layers of these drinks are absolutely just as good as any cocktail you'd find at any bar (and often just objectively better!) All the fun of a unique and inclusive bar without the regrets and liver damage! If I were local I would basically live here. They have a couple of cafe tables for outside too when it's nice outside!

My sister and I visited to have some tea on a Saturday afternoon. Our bartender, Julia, was an absolute delight and very attentive. The Persephone & Selene’s Dream were the perfect cozy teas for a chilly afternoon. It was a wonderful time and I would definitely go back again.

I went there with one of my friend and we met the sweetest person who was serving us the drinks. I believe her name was Julia and she was great! We learned a lot about the drinks and how they are made and how the place is different from regular bars. And, the drinks were so good! Their syrups are house made and each drinks has a unique taste to it. And the most important part is there’s no Alcohol used in the drinks. We went during the game night which is on Tuesdays where that had lots of options starting from Chess and to many hands on games. And if you able to finish them, you get prizes. Highly recommend the place.

This is one of my favorite places in New York and honestly one of the coolest establishments I've ever been to. It's such an incredible spot. They specialize in non-alcoholic craft cocktails and they do them exceptionally well. I read someone else's review regarding this and agree 100%. I had no idea a virgin old fashioned was possible, and have been told for years by almost every bartender I've asked that it doesn't exist and there's no way to physically make one properly. Needless to say, they were 100% wrong. The non-alcoholic old fashioned at Hekate is one of the most incredible milestones and monumental achievements in the bartenders/culinary world, and is one of the most perfect and pure representations on how to nail a booze free version of one of the most beloved old school cocktails, and do it in a way where it retains nearly all the flavor profile and DNA as the real thing to where it's on par or even better then most real old fashionds I've had. I was blown away by this and was extremely impressed. Also, Hekate can customize it into different varients. I asked for a campfire version and they were able to add maple syrup, cinnamon, and other nuances associated with that style and it was divine. Oh, and they can smoke it too. Yes...a non-alcoholic smoked campfire old fashioned. Its absolutely phenomenal. The staff here are so kind and humble and are so outgoing and bend over backwards to go the extra mile to ensure you have an enjoyable experience and leave happy. Eliott (I believe he is the head bartender) is one of the most down to Earth individuals and is very passionate about what he does and puts his heart and soul into the craft drinks he makes. He is very knowledgeable about non alcoholic spirits and different herbs, spices, and flavors that are used in the mocktail scene. All of the employees who work at Hekate are amazing. Every single one is so kind, enthusiastic, passionate and enjoys what they do. They are so welcoming and kind to the customers here and it's such a relaxed place. Hekate has a fun witchy theme which makes it unique and puts a spin on the conventional bar by adding depth and immersion. Just overall a fantastic spot and I wish more people knew about it. It deserves so much more attention and recognition. Hekate is pioneering the future of the acohol free and sober lifestyle and it's awesome. I love this place! Great place to go to if you’re looking for fun, magic, and are sober curious! The drinks are all so creative and prepared with care and effort. The bartenders are always nice and welcoming as well. I also appreciate the spiritual, witchy trinkets in the background that add to the overall atmosphere. I got the Empress which tasted amazing but I also really liked the Healer which has lavender and a subtle thyme taste. There is also a tarot reader who’s readings are fairly priced (you pay on a sliding scale). I’ve been to a lot of bars in the city but this by far was one of the best despite serving non alcoholic drinks!

This may be my new favorite hangout spot. If you like a witchy vibe this is for you. Great no alcohol bar and cafe and the coffee is incredible. Had the TBF and it was so light, tart and not too sweet. My friends and I all got a round of the cafe mocha Mexicana, which is part Mexican hot chocolate, part mocha latte with cayenne on the top. It was delicious and not too heavy. Atmosphere was great and had such a cool community energy. Can’t wait to come back!

Julia was such a sweet bartender and the drink I ordered was delicious, would recommend to anyone looking for a nice drink that isn't heavy with alcohol. I ordered the sweet and sour rosie and its the perfect light and refreshing drink for the weather. The cafe has a nice chill vibe and cute decorations, it was a super nice place to relax, draw, and get away from the summer heat and noise. Can't wait to try another drink one of these days!

This is THE coolest spot. I don’t drink alcohol anymore so it was wonderful to find a bar atmosphere, open in the evening, without the alcohol. The kava drinks were lovely, and I especially appreciated Elliott’s service. He was fun and good-natured. Not to mention…as I was leaving, I definitely felt the presence of Hekate herself. Just a glimmer 😉 I can’t wait to come back!

Such a great spot!!!! I've been alcohol free for 5 years now and finally made it in. My old fashioned was INCREDIBLE. The bartender said they make the whiskey blend themselves and lord was it good. Also had a great mezcal whiskey concoction but the old fashioned was my favorite.

Hekate wasn't that great! I was really expecting better. The decor and aesthetics of this shop is really nice, but that's pretty much it. The cafe gives very homey and cozy vibes that is witch themed. However, I didn't like the mocktails that they provided. It was very VERY over priced for the portion size. Also the mocktail didn't have much flavor to it. It tasted like water and very bland with a lack of flavor to it. There could have also been a lot more drinks to try. I should have gone with the tea which was a lot more affordable than the mocktail. The server was ok, he wasn't too attentive when we went. But he was really nice after we started talking to him, and he was able to open up. Price: $14.13 Rating: 4/10

Solid, cozy place to chill with friends, meet up for a date, or just read a book in the afternoon. The drinks are good, just remember they're ALL mocktails! It's a small bar but has a few tables and lots of bar seating. There was only one bartender (wasn't busy), who was nice and helped explain a lot of the menu. They have decks of tarot cards at the bar, and we tried to do one ourselves before realizing they also had actual tarot card readings, which we did not do. For drinks our group got the healer, piña colada, French 75, and cold brew martini. Everyone liked their drinks, but the French 75 had an interesting after taste (my friend described it as peppercorn-y?) The healer needed to be mixed/drink with a straw but I thought it was a refreshing lavender lemonade type drink. The pina colada had more coconut that pineapple, but still good. Didn't get to try the cold brew, but my friend enjoyed it. If I lived closer and did not drink alcohol, I might come back, but it's just not really my cup of tea (which they also serve, along with coffee :) ). Service, ambience, and drinks were good though so no complaints!

Very cute "bar" with a great concept. I love a good mocktail and I appreciate the thought behind a social spot without any alcohol. I met two friends here for drinks on a Tuesday evening and we had a great time. I was about 30 minutes early, because when am I not dumb early? I got a drink at the bar and waited for my friends to arrive. We all had one round, as we had dinner plans after. I had a "whiskey sour" and it was tasty. Doesn't beat the real thing, but definitely thirst quenching.

I was impressed with the mocktail I had! It was tasty and not too sweet which I often find to be an issue with mocktails. The server was super helpful and knowledgeable. The staff was also chatting with people who came in and it seemed like a neighborhood spot which I love.

We decided to be contrarian on Saint Patrick's Day and spend the night at this mocktail bar while the world outside us got drunk. The vibes are amazing here, with hip, friendly staff and fun, kooky decor. Try The Flower Shop for fruity, floral fun, or the Almond Joy to channel your inner Ovaltine-loving grandma. The only miss for us was the Pina Colada, which does not taste like your virgin Pina Colada from Red Lobster. But I think it's more of a branding thing, and they should just rename this drink Pineapple & Co or something. It actually tastes nice, it just doesn't taste like a Pina C.

Came here with a group of 9, which was a lot to accommodate since the space is pretty small. However the bartender and tarot reader helped us put together a little setup in the back so that all 9 of us could be together and chat. It was my sister's birthday and the tarot reader gave her a free reading. They had a large variety of drinks to choose from. Most of the party enjoyed their drinks!

I'm sure sober people come here often but this is a PREGNANT LADY PLAYGROUND! They can enjoy perfect and thoughtfully crafted cocktails without the booze. I took my expecting sister here and she was so appreciative. This bar is awesome.

My teenage son and I stopped in randomly while walking by the other day. Kathleen was great. She made him a custom drink. Fun conversation. Memorable experience. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing. My wife and I loved it. Before our trip, I specifically looked up non-alcoholic cocktails and was delighted to find out Hekate existed. I recommend just telling the bartender a flavor you're in the mood for and let them do their magic. We'll definitely visit again when we're back in the city.

Word has gotten across that this is an up and coming mocktail / sober bar. It is a pretty neat concept, with a witch theme throughout the bar, but the execution needs a lot of improvement. There is decent amount of table seating as well as bar seating, though it was full house around 4pm on a Saturday. The mocktails are priced just a tiny bit less than the standard cocktails in the area, so I have high expectations. I ordered the Healer drink ($12) and it was mediocre at best. There are notes of lavender with a slight hit of carbonation, but there are very small amounts of lemonade to make this a sophisticated mocktail as described on the menu. Additionally, the bartender forgot the garnish that is the signature flair of the drink, until I reminded him. A lot of the preparation is haphazard - the craft is just not there as opposed to the bartenders putting on a mini show to impress customers - just using a spoon to mix and barely any effort. He just tossed the rosemary garnish to the drink haphazardly, though he later corrected it but that involved touching the drink. Additionally, it looks like people around me were somewhat impatient, masked by conversation, so I lucked out that the drink "only" took 15 min to make, compared to who knows how long the others took. The party beside me had to leave, possibly because of the unexpected time it takes for the drinks to be prepared. If they could hire another bartender or have a more efficient system of first in first out order type, then this place would have been better. Otherwise, it is a pass for me, but it was nice to see they are inclusive in that this allows people that cannot drink or want to cut alcohol to still be able to enjoy the bar vibes.

Very unique selections, sweet service, great atmosphere, off the beaten path with limited seating. Cocktails, mocktails and healthy elixirs available. Wonderful experience, recommend.

I'm so beyond happy this place opened up in the neighborhood. I went to check it out ahead of time for a girls night, and the whole place is just to die for. I love the decor and various paintings and witchy items for sale, they have various mocktails, teas, and coffees, and are right next door to a great spiritual shop called Enchantments. The staff is very nice, and this was honestly one of the best coffees I've had. I can't wait to come back for more!

they have great drinks and the staff is lovely. But, I will warn you to avoid getting any tarot reading from Francesco Salomoni. He is a great bullshitter, will barely tell you anything, you have to ask several questions to get anything out of him. He will charge you a minimum of $35 for a shitty reading!! On a good note, I highly recommend getting a reading from Tasha Santos. She is amazing and never fails to be accurate!

I really enjoyed the vibe of this place as a person who does not and actually cannot drink alcohol. I have greatly missed the feeling of going to a bar and enjoying a fancy drink. I had a pina colada and spritz drink and both were great, especially the pina colada. Staff were very friendly - I think they were the best part of the place. A friend and I also enjoyed scarily accurate and hilarious tarot readings. Great for Halloween or just any time, really.

Drinks were delicious, vibe was phenomenal. Seating is limited but folks are nice about making room when / if they can. Absolutely one of my new NYC faves.

Was very excited to try a non-alcoholic bar. Unfortunately the guy working was not up to the task of making anything. He mostly chatted with others and acted overwhelmed even though the place was not busy. Very disappointing, seems like a cool spot with potential.

My friend and I had a less than good experience here. I am sober and so when visiting NYC and looking for a sober bar, I was very interested in this place. Unfortunately, it did not feel like a bar/lounge at all. It was extremely bright in there, the music would cut out for several minutes and we would be in silence, and the service was SO slow. The menu (and reviews) specifically say, "if you're not sure what you want, tell the bartender what flavors you like and let them work their magic" (or something of that nature), so of course that is what we tried to do. The bartender was confused and unhelpful and then proceeded to just point us to the menu to pick something. The drinks were fine, but I would much rather go to a regular bar and just try to order a mocktail from there...

Great place. I'm not fond of alcohol. I was just glad to find out about a bar that served non-alcoholic drinks, but this place has exceeded my expectations. The vibe is very comfortable and cozy and quiet enough to have a decent conversation without shouting. I would call it a step up in sophistication from all the other alcohol-serving bars. Highly recommend.

New little cafe serving Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee. Great coffee, nice bar-style seating inside (I think there were some tables as well), and near Tompkins Square Park. Great addition to the neighborhood!

I still can't get over how fabulous it is to have a sober witch bar in NYC, specifically the East Village. Shout out to Netty for keeping it real and providing magical company. I tried The Healer and The Empress and both were super delicious (!!!). I can't wait to come back here and try more elixirs.

This place is a kick. friendliest reception I've ever gotten at an NYC place. Nettie, the bartender, is an absolute delight--funny, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about the offerings. Got to meet a really friendly brewery rep offering samples of a seriouslook good NA pilsener, a Tarot card reader who's fluent in Latin, and the artist whose fabulous animal/human portraits adorn the walls. I gave up drinking a while ago, and this place makes me glad I did. I never would have found it otherwise.
