"This old-school Irvington bakery has been operating since 1924 and is the Platonic ideal of the classic American bakery. The glass cases at Helen Bernhard Bakery are practically overflowing with frosted sugar cookies, doughnuts, pastries, petit fours, and full cakes. The bakery has earned its stay in the Portland scene with delicious custom cakes for every style, from airbrushed beauties like the best version of a grocery store cake, or detailed, fondant affairs. Call to place an order." - Michelle Lopez, Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Helen Bernhard Bakery never fails to bring joy to our hearts—their cakes have always been a family favorite! Not only are they beautifully crafted, but they’re also perfectly soft and never too sweet—just the right balance every time. Our most recent cake truly exceeded all expectations. We shared an inspiration photo and some character toppers, and what they created was beyond anything we could have imagined. They brought our son’s cake to life with incredible detail and creativity. Absolutely magical!

The first 2 pictures are of what I emailed to them to make sure they could make it. The other messy ones are of Helen’s incompetent cake decorator. He is incompetent to say the least and mostly just a scam to take your money for the least amount of work. Wasn’t what I ordered, it was sloppy and disgusting. It wasn’t ready or even started when I arrived to pick it up!!!! I emailed this company asking if they could make a Buttercream knife palate painted cake and sent 2 pictures (attached) I got a call from them and spoke to a woman who said they absolutely could and it was no problem. We discussed all the details of the cake and I felt confident about my decision of choosing this bakery with 100 years of experience. I arrived this past Friday Feb 21, 2025 at 12:15pm for my agreed time 12:30pm pick it up time. I was told it would be 10 minutes. I happened to look to my left and saw a man just starting what looked to be the cake colors I ordered. 45 minutes later the cake was brought to me unfinished. I was very confused bc it looked nothing like the pictures I sent. It was messy and sloppy. 25 minutes later they said it was done, it was awful and nothing like what I ordered. I asked them to fix it 3 times and every time I was met with rudeness and unprofessionalism. This isn’t a design you just whip out of a plastic icing bag, as the buttercream is to be painted on with a knife and refrigerated. It takes skill which I found this bakery does not have. The cake is supposed to be more taller than wide. The bakery lied to me, was unprofessional, rude, and completely incompetent. When you say you can recreate a cake and charge $95.00 for it, I expect you to make it as close to possible as promised. I was over a hour and a half late as it was, due to them not even starting until after i got there and was on the way to the party and had to purchase this cake to not show up empty handed. The cake was tasteless and dry and beyond a disappointment. This bakery is a scam and I wouldn’t waste your time or money here. We would have been better off getting a cake at the dollar tree lol Update: I called the bakery and a manager got on the phone and ripped me apart and said I expected too much! HAHAHA! Then don’t lie to your customers about your abilities and expectations will be low as they should?? I think Helen Bernhard would be disgusted and highly disappointed by the people running her bakery these days. I bet she was great.

I recently ordered a cake for my Mom's 70th birthday. It wasn't inexpensive but it was PERFECT. I asked for a huge heart-shaped overdecorated pink champagne single-layer boat a la movie studio birthday parties of the 1950s, and they delivered. Seeing this thing wheeled out for the birthday song was magic. The cake itself was delicious and super moist, even two days later stored in the box. I've had mixed results with Helen's case cakes, and I think the workaround is just ordering something custom and fresh and not relying on what's readily available that day in-store. You won't be disappointed!

Helen Bernhard Bakery is truly a gem. From the moment you walk in, the smell of fresh-baked goods wraps around you like a cozy blanket. Their cakes, pastries, and cookies are consistently fresh, beautifully crafted, and absolutely delicious. The staff is always friendly and helpful, whether you’re picking up a custom cake for a special occasion or just grabbing a sweet treat to brighten your day. Their buttercream frosting is a standout — rich, smooth, and not overly sweet. And if you haven’t tried their classic pink cake or the almond torte, you’re missing out. This bakery has been a Portland favorite for decades, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a perfect blend of tradition, quality, and charm. Whether you’re a longtime local or just passing through, Helen Bernhard Bakery is a must-visit.

Google
So many delicious treats to choose from. I went late on Sunday afternoon and a few of the cases were discounted half off but they still tasted fresh when we enjoyed at home. The cake donuts and sticky bun were my favorites. I will definitely go back again earlier in the day next time to catch some different items.

Google
Wow-this is the driest cake I’ve *ever* had and I don’t think it’s freshly made. Fred Meyer cake is significantly cheaper and significantly better quality. I’m not kidding-this cake seems like it was frozen for a year, defrosted and then left to sit on the counter for 2 days before it was sold - That’s exactly what it tastes like. Even the frosting is lacking in flavor and texture.

Want to thank all of you at Helen Bernhard bakery for making my 16th wedding anniversary a truly memorable celebration. The cake turned out fabulous! ❤️😊

Google
Can't believe it took me so long to try this place. It's not like it's new. Family owned since 1910 I think their sign said. Regardless, this is yet another delicious destination of Portland to be placed well above Voodoo. Got donuts and a cake and both were indescribably tasty. Excellent service and really cool neighborhood. Even if you're not in the area, go out of your way to try this place. You definitely won't be disappointed

Yelp
This is just a classic old fashioned bakery in the very best way. Super quick and friendly service (one employee was dealing with the most particular and exacting customer ever and never showed an ounce of frustration). There are so many bakery cases filled to the brim and it was hard to make a decision! We settled on red velvet and German chocolate cupcakes, chocolate petit four, chocolate covered coconut macaroon, and a swirly danish of some sort. All absolutely delish! My favorite was the petit four and I wish I would have gotten one of each variety. Their buttercream is exceptional and delicious. I forgot I'd wanted to try a donut as I've heard they are great...ah well next time! Prices are really great. They have adorable cookies and decorated cakes too. I think there were some discounted day old items as well. There is a small lot for parking out front of the shop, but be prepared to park along the street.

Yelp
How cute is this place? Super cute! The donuts are delicious! Just lookin for an excuse to buy one of those pineapple upside down cakes...

Yelp
Walking before my schedule appointment....I noticed this bakery and I had to check it out. There was a good amount of people already inside order dozens of yummy items. I ordered a snickerdoodle and a lemon square. I couldn't even wait. I ate the snickerdoodle while checking out Service was gentle and quick! She finished before I finished the cookie. The place itself feels like a home and smells like sweetness. Definitely worth checking out!

Norma J.

Yelp
I've come here about 5-6 times for donuts and the girls that help me are always so unfriendly. Different girls too, so I'm not sure what's up with the staff. No smile, no "thank you", just acting like I'm hassling them with my simple order.

Renee A.

Yelp
Let me start with if you do not visit, there is something seriously wrong with you! Are you craving a bakery that has amazing pastries, cakes, cookies, bread and, oh, did I say ECLAIRS!? Don't' walk, don't run., race to this location. Oh wait - no, you might beat me there and purchase my sweet treats! Why do we visit Helen Bernhardt's often? While all of their products are delicious, their chocolate eclairs are probably the best I have ever had (and we have traveled the world across Europe (think Italy) to Asia (think Japan) to Latin America and of course across the U.S. (home). The location is easy to find. It is a cute old house/bakery. Go up the stairs and open the door to the sweet smell of baked goods. We are always greeted and welcomed quickly and I am afraid to say the team there is starting to get to know us. :-). The store is always clean and if you come early, stocked with a variety of amazing sweets (check out the pictures which have been taken over multiple trips). I don't have to say I will be back. I have to say, I need to monitor how often I will be back because the product is so amazingly delicious. This bakery is on my top ten list and for me, that says a lot. You will not be disappointed. Please just don't take my eclair before I get there!! (LOL) Now that's funny!

Laura M.

Yelp
The service at this bakery has been pleasant and friendly. I visit when I am in the mood for classic baked goods. I enjoy their cookies and fruitcake

Steven M.

Yelp
Classic bakery with everything you could want and the best dark rye bread in the city!

Mindy S.

Yelp
I will never purchase a cake from here again. I spent $516 dollars on a cake that looked like it had been decorated by a child. The word went from big to small like they ran out of room and lines were squiggly. I contacted them they said they would follow up and call me back then avoided my emails and phone calls. My event had over 100 people and I was very embarrassed. Horrible customer service and I will never purchase from them again!

Yelp
This is still one of my go-to spots for some donuts and cakes. They have a plethora of items to choose from and also whole cakes that they have ready to go for last-minute shoppers. My favorite cake here is the strawberry pink champagne cake.

Bliaglia V.

Yelp
Good cake, but it's not worth $54. The cake needed better frosting and cake design. The cake is moist. Frosting tastes like the $30 cakes you get from Safeway and Fred Meyer.

Anita E.

Yelp
Probably one of the worst cakes we have purchased. The chocolate flavor was lacking, it was very dry and crumbly. There is 10 of us, and not a person ate an entire piece. We are from out of town and ordered a cake based on reviews, not realizing most of them are from several years ago. Very disappointing. The cake was for my 50th birthday and thankfully it was the only bad part of the day.

Anthony A.

Yelp
Five is the limit. I would give more if I could. I have tried 5 other bakeries in Portland in the last 3 years. By far this is the best!!! They have earned a repeat visit!!! I have never enjoyed such sweetness! Just look at the fillings in the picture. Great care was given to make sure it's stuffed full! The rollovers was to big enough to be a meal within itself. I will be back again and again!

Meg M.

Yelp
Walked in and found my wedding cake within 5 mins. Everyone said it was the best wedding cake they'd ever had! I have to agree! It was like banana bread, but not too cakey or moist. It was perfect crumbly, not too sweet, airy icing, and made With love. This cake made my day (and all of our guests!).

Addison S.

Yelp
We hired HB Bakery for our wedding 5 years ago. Our guests raved about our cakes and flavors. Fast forward to today, we had them make us a 7" cake to celebrate our wedding anniversary. They made us the same flavor that we cut into on our wedding day, pink champagne with raspberry French buttercream. Holy smokes is this cake just as good as I remember it. They took the ideas I emailed them and made us an anniversary cake exactly how we envisioned. Truly a work of art and flavor! Thank you Helen Bernhard Bakery

John R.

Yelp
I called ahead to see about fresh banana bread. She said, "we just put it out this morning." I found out that doesn't mean fresh. I drove over and bought a loaf. It was old, dry, and crumbling. Buyer beware. Demand to know the date and time it was baked.

Yelp
Helen Bernhard is an old school bakery, the kind of bakery you remember from childhood. The smell of freshly baked bread and pastries greeting you as you enter, with the bell in the door chiming to announce your entry! The cases are filled with beautifully decorated cakes, trays and trays of donuts, pastries, cinnamon buns, brownies, eclairs, cream puffs, apple strudel, tarts, turnovers, cupcakes, iced decorated cookies, and so much more! Loafs of different types of rolls, bread and bags of butter cookies are prepackaged on the displays against the wall. How do you decide? It's seriously challenging! Having lived in the neighborhood for many years, Helen Bernhard was the first bakery I discovered when I moved to Portland. Every Easter we would get hot cross buns which they sell all during Lent, one of the few bakeries that still make these. For birthdays, the chocolate cake with the marshmallow merengue icing (also known as 7 minute icing) was always a winner! The light and fluffy icing the perfect compliment to the rich chocolate cake. Bringing a dozen or so doughnuts to work always made me a hit with my employees, especially those who lived way out on the west side and had never experienced this goodness. When I stopped in today after a 3 year absence, the challenge of choice still existed! I have to remind myself that the Bakery will be here again tomorrow, and next week, so it's ok to not get everything! The pandemic has created a fear of not having Access to my favorite foods! Haha. The shortbread cookie, a slice of apple strudel and a 6-pack of Hot Cross buns came home with me on this visit. And since it's just between us, I'll admit that I couldn't wait to rip my off my mask and eat one of the Hot Cross buns as soon as I got in the car! Zero willpower. Private parking lot on the side and street parking out front makes it convenient. Wonderful customer service. Delicious treats. Affordable prices. Great variety plus seasonal items. Sounds like 5 stars to me!

Theresa T.

Yelp
Beautiful, delicious, affordable wedding cake. The frosting pattern was custom and executed perfectly. The live flowers were added by the wedding florist. The staff were awesome both during the ordering process as well as the pick up. They helped me secure the cake for transplant to Kirkland WA. This bakery holds a special place in my heart- they made my grandmother's wedding cake 95 years ago.

Dolly C.

Yelp
Cakes, pastries and cookies are so delicious. Anything from Helen Bernhard's is great. I always order my cakes from this bakery especially for special occasions. One of my Mothers favorite bakeries.

Jason V.

Yelp
While waiting for our table at the Cadillac Cafe, we wandered down the street and stumbled on this cute little bakery! We grabbed a couple frosted sugar cookies for the road, which were soft and chewy and delicious! We even scored a free sugar cookie for checking in on Yelp! Double bonus! Everything in the case looked amazing, so I can see us coming back for more goodies in the future! Everyone was polite, helpful and friendly. Great place, will be back!

Namitha S.

Yelp
They have a great collection of baked goods. It's tough to walk past them and not ever for a treat or two. When you enter and you love baked items, you are sure to feel like a kid in a candy store! They have a variety of options ranging from breads, cookies and cakes. Their staff are very helpful. I got their chocolate caramel covered roll with nuts and a coconut based cookie. Both were delicious. I felt the store was a little pricey though. I'd recommend checking out this shop if you are in the locality and enjoy their collection!

Kerry O.

Yelp
I was torn over writing a "bad" review, but the stakes can run high on a birthday cake. This is the second birthday cake we've special ordered and won't be ordering again. One kid ate my son's birthday cake. I assumed it was because they were full. Then I thought, "Wait a minute. They're thirteen. Fullness has NOTHING to do with cake!" One bite told me why. The cake was very dry. (As was the first cake a few years ago.) And the "vanilla" frosting was made of whip cream. Yuck. We tossed the rest.

Mary Lou R.

Yelp
This is the sugar palace/ all of the extensive offerings are delicious . I unfortunately, live far too close. But, to balance out the baked goods are their amazing dinner rolls, perfect in all ways. A quick pick up for dinner. What is really nice is they offer a version of danish that is on the smaller size so you don't need to fall into a sugar coma or you can simply try more fillings. I am partial to the marionberry. And a small secret, Sunday morning it is reported that they offer a deal on things that were leftover and stored (frozen) from earlier in the week. Perfectly fine or they wouldn't sell them. It's just a great place.

Lj G.

Yelp
We bought an Apple pie and gingerbread people for Christmas. Gingerbread people were very good. Yummy. BUT the apple pie was horrible. My mom asked me did I get it from Safeway. I was like no! My whole family disliked the pie. It was all filling that was so thick and sugary. We had so much left over I wanted to take it back I was so mad that I wasted money. The only reason I didn't was because it was raining and I didn't want to drive 40 miles in the rain. Very disappointed. Apple pie from Safeway is better my dad said.

Terry W.

Yelp
Unfortunately, a terrible cake for the price. I ordered a cake on a Saturday afternoon for a Monday afternoon pick up. The staff were very kind and accommodating. I picked the cake up on Monday, and the cake was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was so dry and bland, I couldn't justify the cost. Would not recommend their chocolate cake. Paid nearly $90 for a 9" double layer cake that didn't taste very good. If it had a richer chocolate flavor and a lot more moisture, it might have been worth it.

F J.

Yelp
I visited this bakery this past Thursday to make a treat plate for my birthday. I was looking for an assortment of treats that were bite-sized. I ended up getting macarons, cake squares, shortbread cookies, cupcakes, and a bag of sprinkle cookies. The only item we liked was the bag of sprinkle cookies. :( The flavor profiles available in store peaked my interest. But once we got them home the taste of the items left little to be desired. The macarons had a strange aftertaste; the shortbread cookies had a strong taste of baking powder/soda and were bland other than that; the cake squares were dry and carried a taste like they had been in the refrigerator for some time; the cupcake frosting was heavy and didn't pair well. The bag of sprinkle cookies was the one thing that we all ate and enjoyed. The service we received was nonchalant and efficient. Not warming or connecting, like I typically expect in smaller bakeries. Nearly every decorated cookie across the store was painted with an LGBTQ+ pride theme, minus a row of graduation hats. I was really hoping to find some birthday themed cookies. There was no line of patrons in the bakery waiting to be served so we were served right when we walked in as there were several workers behind the counter.

Lea Ann L.

Yelp
The best childhood memories a kid could have going to their Grandparents house in N.E. Portland and having bread, cakes and cookies from Helen's! Everything was so amazing it left an imprint of some of my best memories growing up. I can still remember the wood floors creaking when I walked inside. I've read of different owners over the years, but the integrity, commitment and amazing recipes are still there. Thank you for sharing and creating some of the finest bread, cookies and cakes I've ever had! This bakery is still one of the best business going in Portland!

Benjamin M.

Yelp
Amazing cake! I ordered a Black Forest cake and it was beyond amazing, not overwhelmingly sweet (which was awesome) and the customer service is great. I also got some cookies and they were also great (chocolate chip, butter cookies with cherries and macaroons). I found out about this place on google and I decided to give them a chance and I was so pleasantly surprised. Ill definitely order from them again!!!

Laura P.

Yelp
Got a few tasty little treats for a road trip. We chose a some cookies - ice box, thumbprints. Staff was kind and patient.

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Classic style bakery that doesn't run out of goods! Get ready to be swept away by the options at Helen Bernhard Bakery! I've wanted to go inside this shop for a while now but never stopped in. Unlike other bakeries, that run out of doughnuts after 9/10am, Helens has goods to sell all day long. They offer doughnuts, cookies, bread, cakes, cupcakes and much more! You just have to get in the door! Pros: Large parking Lot, you can wake up late and still have good items to choose from, always a variety, traditional feel.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Delicious neighborhood bakery. Massive selection and everything seems to be very yummy (don't worry, I taste tested ) The kind, patient staff who seem to know their regulars are always happy to explain each treat. There are a lot of bakeries in Portland doing some really awesome things, but for classic old school pastries, Bernhard's is your place!

Dale C.

Yelp
Loved the wedding cake they made for us, the white roses and greenery frosting was absolutely gorgeous and the cake was very delicious. We had white cake with coconut filling on the top and chocolate with mocha filling on the second layer. Highly recommended! And they delivered too!

Amy K.

Yelp
Run. Run now to get alllll the things from here. Why? Every single thing we got was literally the best we have had in this town. Cookies with frosting. BAM! Old fashion donut. Bam! Apricot danish. Bam! Almond pastry. Bam! Apple cider donut. Bam! Everything was so soft and cooked perfectly. Each item was sweet but not overly. We have some jalapeño cheese biscuits to try in the am. They told us we would love them. They look amazing. You can see all the flavor!! I CANNOT wait to go back. I am going to have to ride extra miles on the Peloton but I'll be smiling about it!! They have tons of items such as muffins, cakes, tarts, and breads just to name a few. Go check it out. Great customer service also!

Kyle S.

Yelp
My wife placed an order for decorated cookies on Monday afternoon this week for a baby shower that was supposed to be Sunday of this week and provided all of the requested information to the bakery but told them she was still trying to decide what exact shapes she wanted for the cookies. The employee from the bakery stated she was "all good" and that she was "on the calendar" for Sunday. Today I called in on her behalf and provided follow-up regarding what shapes and colors the cookies should be. They proceeded to tell me they "didn't have an order associated with her name" and that "I dunno who she talked to but we can't fill it." Apparently they require "3 *business* days" to get the order complete. In summary: The 3 business day requirement was never communicated, they never communicated with us at all throughout the week that they needed the shape decision faster and the worst part... they lost our order. We now have no bakery for the baby shower because most places expect you to give them notice. We gave this bakery notice and they lost that notice.

Justine D.

Yelp
I am appreciative of this little bakery that we had the opportunity to first go to during the Yelp Elite Scavenger Hunt. It has a lot of different offerings, no matter the time of day, and the fact that it has a such wide variety of delicious pastries makes it all the more enjoyable to visit. The times we visited, we also took advantage of their yummy free sugar cookie deal (one check in equals one free sugar cookie)! The first time we received one, they had special holiday cookies that were very yummy and looked very cute. We also purchased a holiday fruitcake that was 50% off for our father, and I am sure he will enjoy it (better yet, they charge per weight for the fruit cake, so you can always choose one that is lighter if you don't want a lot). We have tried their green onion and cheese scones, cinnamon rolls and muffins, and I have enjoyed the scone the most. It is the perfect combination of fluffy scone with cheesy goodness and I loved it! Definitely give this shop a try if you're craving anything from donuts to scones!

Marcia B.

Yelp
My review has nothing to do with the taste of the cake we got - that was just fine. My one star rating has to do with a communication mix-up between what I asked for (a FEW balloons / a masculine looking cake for a 95 year old man) and what I got (10 huge balloons taking up more than half the cake) and the way in which the owner responded to my concerns. The worst part of my experience was my conversation with Mike who finally called me back to discuss the photos I sent (see attached). I wasn't looking for money back. I simply wanted to convey my disappointment at the decoration. Mike's entire posture was defensive and concluded with "that's exactly the cake I'd expect with the description you gave". My recommendation is that you request to see examples and point to what you have in mind before you order.

Vivian F.

Yelp
This bakery holds a special place in my heart. I used to live within walking distance and would come here for every occasion as well as order all cakes for the office birthdays. I moved to SE pdx now and unfortunately don't get over here as much as I wish, but that doesn't stop me from driving over for every occasion and loading up on their amazing cake slices, cupcakes, cooked, bread, etc. you name it they bake it. Hands down the best spot in pdx. This will forever be my go to bakery.

Jessica H.

Yelp
Love this place! I came in on my birthday and got a bunch of good stuff. The cupcakes are beautiful and they taste amazing! We got a bag of chocolate chip cookies too and they're right in the middle of soft and chewy. Yum!

Arwen M.

Yelp
The gold standard. You can't go wrong! Their custom cakes are absolutely beautiful (and delicious) and their yeast doughnuts are perfect - best maple bars anywhere, and I know my way around a maple bar. They've been in business for a hundred years, and I hope they're around for a hundred more! They're a Portland institution, and with good reason.

Dina E.

Yelp
I've had their cakes before at various work events (I really miss this). I ran up just as they were closing and they were super sweet and let me order at 3:59pm hehe. I got a raspberry yeast donut and cherry turnover. I love fruity filled pastries so it was kinda heavenly in there. I wanted to be quick/respectful so I just got those two things (I was not on a mission and didn't *need* anything but wanted to visit since I'm seldom in that neighborhood). The donut was delicious...soft and fresh. The jam was not too sweet and naturally raspberrylicious and not that fake stuff (there were seeds). The cherry turnover needed to wait for the next day (I stored it in its original bag and in a tupperware container on the counter away from the sun/heat. Next day -- delicious! Nice chonky fruit filling and flaky crush. Sigh. Can't wait to go back!

Dave R.

Yelp
COOKIE! I'm picky about sweets and generally more a fan of savory foods, but this place turns me into the Cookie Monster. Old fashioned donuts? Yep, those are very good too. Birthday cakes? Yep, those are also very good. I ordered my wife's 40th birthday cake from Helen's and asked them to cover it with flowers. It was incredible. There must have been a hundred frosting flowers all over it. There was no portion of the cake that wasn't a floral paradise. It was cool. Have I mentioned the cookies? They rock. It really doesn't matter what kind you get. Every dang one of them is fabulous.

Noel A.

Yelp
sooo many options in rolls, breads, pastries.... I was craving potato rolls hard and they were , but I'm def going back for the dark rye: only sad they don't have pumpernickel. avoided the sweets: lemon meringue was really calling to me: we'll see if I'm that strong next time, which will be very soon.

Ice Cream M.

Yelp
THE BEST CAKE EVER!!!! Where to begin.. This was my first time purchasing from HBB. Part of the reason I wanted to work with them is because they support The Blanchet House and have donated baked treats for people in need. I called them up a week before and got info on what was needed. I then emailed them with a ton of details (photo examples, a list of prioritized options, a photo from their site) while also noting that I wanted the decorator to have artistic and creative freedom. HBB called me back a couple days later with an estimate and I gave them the OK. I picked up the cake this morning and couldn't have been happier. The recipient was just as thrilled. Chacha, the decorator, did such an amazing job. Thanks Chacha and HBB, can't wait to make another.

Yelp
I like how old school and traditional this bakery feels and how close of a walk this is to where I live. I'm not sure if we came on an off day but my boyfriend and I stopped by here on a Sunday morning hoping to grab some fresh baked goodies but everything was a day/days old. I can appreciate that it was super discounted but I was really hoping for fresh donuts/pastries. We ended up purchasing 2 donuts and they were fine - definitely a steal but nothing to rave about. Will definitely give it another shot one of these mornings

Yelp
Drove up to Portland today from Amity to pick up my birthday cake that cost over $80 and a few pastries. The Maple bars exhibited a lack of complete frosting but the Pecan Nut rolls were great. i put my card into the machine to pay and noticed a 10,15,20 % add on tip and quite frankly was disgusted that any should be paid. This is not a sit down restaurant with people serving tables. I intended to pay zero tip but mistakenly added a $90 tip that the cashier voided and she did make the comment your not going to stiff us are you?!. Well if you consider my paying over $100 for pastries getting stiffed you might be in the wrong business. This add on tip trend is getting out of hand.

Yelp
I am so sorry to leave this review but this is a honest review. I have been coming to you for 5 years. I have dreamed of having a birthday cake from you and yesterday was finally the day. It was my 40th birthday a big special day! The cake was HORRIBLE. It was so dry that we couldn't even cut slices it was cracking and crumbled in tiny tiny very tiny pieces like a dry cracker would. The frosting tasted like old freezer smell and was also super salty. I contemplated taking it back this morning just so you can see this absolute garbage you sold us. We all couldn't even eat it. Thank god my friend bought a cheese cake from the grocery store otherwise we would've been without a dessert for my bday. Very disappointed! The rest of their pastries are amazing. I would cone for the cookies and pastries but do not order your cake from here.

Yelp
Stopped in at 6am and was greeted by the warmest smile and welcome. It was my first visit and I was overwhelmed by the offerings. The woman behind the counter asked if I was looking for something for a group and I was. She recommended the "commuter box" - a prepackaged bakers dozen doughnuts - it was perfect! I strolled through the small shop and admired the variety of breads, cookies, and cakes/pies. I'll be back ... many more times. I'm definitely coming for some pumpkin cheesecake at Thanksgiving.

Yelp
This is the best bakery in Portland. They make everything: bread, donuts,,pastries, cakes, cookies and more! The best thing to get this time of year is their Gingerbread House kit. The kits are only in stock for a limited time. These kits have everything: walks, roof, frosting for snow and grass, candy, even Santa with reindeer! It makes your house smell so good. They even throw in some extra Gingerbread to snack on while building your house. Great fun for the whole family or if you are in a contest. Haven't built it yet, so no pic. Thanks to everyone who works there!
