"You’re not going to mistake Hellenic for Athens, but grilled halloumi, pita with tzatziki, and hummus will hold you over until that Greek vacation. Definitely plan to stop in for breakfast—they do great frittatas with haloumi, a corned beef hash with poached eggs, and pancakes with quality maple syrup. The wine list here leans heavily on North Fork vineyards and the menu is seafood heavy, though you can still have lamb just about any way you want. Bring a group, grab a seat outside, and walk to the beach near Spring Pond after you eat." - sal vaglica

One of the best gelato I’ve ever had. Great authentic Greek food with excellent service. The falafel is spectacular, perfectly cooked and not dry in the middle. The souvlaki and gyro are also delicious. The only drawback is that it’s a bit pricey. Nice atmosphere with great outdoor seating.

Google
Had the greatest plate of mixed meat , dolamades, ………NAME IT…… it’s all fantastic….. George is a great owner and would love to see the world come there especially for breakfast! This IS A PLACE TO GO TO !!!!!! 5 stars all the way And Never forget the Lemonade and pictured are the spumoni flavors to die for.

Google
George "the Gyro Genius" Giannaris will make you a memorable and delicious meal. My wife and I ordered the Grape Leaves, open Gyro, and Greek Salad. The Grape Leaves were as good as the ones we recently ate on a trip to Greece -- teeming with flavor with subtle hints of meat taste. The salad was amazing with bright red tomatoes, fresh produce, and copious amounts of feta and a great house dressing. The Gyro was well.....in a word...PERFECT! This was our first time and it certainly won't be out last.

Google
The go to spot for Greek food on the North Fork. Can be crowded on weekends. Service is friendly and attentive. Regardless of the dish, food is properly prepared and presented. The lemonade is outstanding

Google
Variable selection of food is available. However we were expecting specifically Greek cuisine! The lamb souvlakis were just ok I must say. The seafood and appetiser platter was ok too. Service was kinda slow but the service crew are very polite and accomodating. Special mention is the yummy lemonade, the cheesy saganaki and the bhaklava gelato.

Google
Driving around, my fiancé and I found this restaurant...exquisite. It appeared stuffy from the drive-in, but even if, the staff had the warmth of Southern hospitality. Nic/holas was our server, and he was great; offered suggestions when asked, attentive and welcoming. The fish was delicious, but I would have loved if they stuffed it with seasonings or sweet peppers or something aromatic; anyway, lives that it was paired with vegetables. My fiancé has the lamb over rice. For beverages, the vanilla creme was not or thing... tastes like a flat float and serves better on a home menu, but I understand it's the owners baby. On the other hand, the cosmogranate de-li-cious. Great atmosphere with the outdoor covered and uncovered seating and lawn games and areas for sip and chat decorated with Adirondack chairs. Good times!!

I stopped in off season for lunch and had a great meal. Service was fine atmosphere was calm.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at this one of our favorite places. Great food, great service, great ambiance. We had the red beet skordalia, falafel and ospreria salad. Yum

Yelp
I stopped in with a friend during March for a light lunch. We were seated in the warm kitchen area upon entry and our server brought menus and a friendly greeting. We split an appetizer and a cheese please plate and were very happy with our selections. We ordered the tender broiled octopus which came with olives, sliced cucumber and pita. It was tender and tasteful. We also shared the Saganaki with tomatoes which is baked Kefalograviera cheese over bubbling marinated tomatoes also delicious. Overall a great experience.

Yelp
Cute lunch spot after a ferry ride. They have an indoor and outdoor area. I got the lamb over rice dish. Large dish super delish with tomatoes and onions. Rice was aromatic and flavorful. The calamari appetizer was a huge let down. We asked the waiter to compare the half size and full size amount. He portrayed the size with his hands and when it comes out he was comparing the plate not the amount of calamari. Super overpriced for the amount we got. The photo is what we got minus 2 rings. Shrimp orzo was also small dish for the price. Service was a little slow but it was a busy lunch hour and on a weekend. Response to owner: this was around mid-August.

Rita H.

Yelp
Great food ! Wonderful Greek dishes and plenty of food other than Greek to choose from. Comfortable seating indoors and outdoors. Casual atmosphere. Quick and polite service! We got here off of the main road after leaving orient Point state park beach. Very convenient!

Ebynii J.

Yelp
Vegetables were crispy and delicious, made with grilled and marinated chicken with a home made season dressing. I also had their home made gelato. ( Delicious) I love the atmosphere, I got a chance to meet the owner/CHEF/George (check out his youtube channel): I added a picture of AWAREHOUSECHEF on the youtube channel.

Yelp
EVERYTHING about the Hellenic is AMAZING!! I spent summers in East Marion as a child and have fond memories of eating there multiple times a week with my family. Many years later, although I now live across the country, whenever I come back to NY to visit family and friends, we drive out to my all time favorite Greek Restaurant!! My last visit was this past August and as usual, it was a spectacular experience. I always order the Greek Salad, a Gyro and of course the world famous lemonade!! The gelato is out of this world!! George is THE BEST!! Read his book - Ferry Tales!!! This review is sent with warm regards and the highest recommendation from San Francisco!!

Ryan G.

Yelp
Okay, this place is fantastic (but expensive). The food is phenomenal (they even make a really good burger), their lemonade will make a believer out of any doubters, and the gelato is to die for... because when you see how much you spent on your meal, you might just die. But the gelato ($11+) is so worth it. The staff is all super friendly, but the seating can be a problem. The vibe is largely "Eastern Long Island" with cornhole games and outdoor seating, but the covered area stays pretty comfortable even on extremely hot days. The food is worth it, especially with all of the comparatively good alternatives in downtown Greenport (where parking will be a nightmare).

Cam E.

Yelp
We all have had that occasion, when you frequented a place for its consistency in fresh good Greek cuisine in the North Fork for 25+ years with family and friends, plus you highly recommend that place to new friends, and... Suddenly, you go and discover It has sadly, quite sadly and unfortunately Gone down-hill... This is the scenerio we experienced today after a stellar week out here on the North Fork. We ordered take-out and went to our hotel 5 minutes away to eat immediately as we were very hungry. The food never sat in the container long, and trust having had take-out at many restaurants in Astoria over the years. Sorry, we do know good take-out especially during the pandemic. Sorry, George, we are loyal customers for 25+ years. We love your place but for now we cannot recommend. I seriously hate to give two stars, but my family and friends here have given their views. We hope to see things improve. **Two stars - added one for the quick friendly service** Plus, it's the weekend too. $100 seriously ?! Thank you for reading.

Yelp
I really hope this was just an off night, because I love stopping here after arriving on the Orient Point ferry. This was the first time we left unhappy. We sat outside, although they were not busy it took a long time for even water to be brought to the table. When we asked for the bill again there was a long wait as our server was also responsible for the phones and got stuck on a call. We ordered octopus and a sampler of 3 appetizers. The octopus was cooked perfectly however was a fairly modest portion and the dressing was subpar, I think because olive oil was substituted for something else. The three appetizer salads all lacked flavor, the eggplant salad had a lot of tasteless maybe egg in it? The fried zucchini and eggplant were soggy, and even the skordalia was a bit watery and lacked aroma. We were starving so added salt and pepper to everything and ate it all... but did tell them to check their garlic as there was really no flavor to anything ...A shame because everything did taste freshly made. I love this place so will give them another try and hope to post a happier review.

Ginger J.

Yelp
We stopped for a snack yesterday on our bike ride. Your gelato is out of this world! And your lemonade to die for!

Elana S.

Yelp
I came here with my mom and god mother and had the best lemonade I've ever tasted (my mom agrees) it was sooooo good we had to order another one then we noticed the gelato and had to get some then we got hungry for real food I got a cheese burger with the best rice and the service was really fast

Paul G.

Yelp
This place is special. My wife and I have been patrons for probably 10 years. Before that we would drive by and never stopped, (dont know why) on our way to the Orient Point ferry. The food is excellent, the portions are generous, and the staff is down to earth friendly. What more could you ask for? We love it!

James N.

Yelp
I am a believer! I have enjoyed Hellenic's consistently excellent service and imaginative offerings as a returning customer since early 1980s. Quality=Value, and hands-on / on-site owner/management ensures both. The Hellenic experience, from our first visit as a young family from Nassau County to the present day making the trip from northwestern Connecticut, is delivered by an expert staff from chef to cooks to hosts to servers always cheerful, always knowledgeable, always offering helpful suggestions. I enjoyed one of my favorites yet again on my most recent visit last weekend -- the spectacular horiatiki salad. And dolmades, of course. Heavenly, on Hellenic's sunny patio. Congratulations Hellenic, on your carefully-paced growth and enduring culinary achievement. Thank you for the outstanding value.

Rich P.

Yelp
The Hellenic is great for lunch, dinner, or take out. When the weather's nice sit outside on the porch or around a fire table in the fall. The Greek specialties are stellar, as are the sandwiches and the best lemonade anywhere.

Philip M.

Yelp
My family and I - along with many friends - have enjoyed eating here several times each year since discovering it in 1979! On our most recent trip we were surprised and disappointed to learn that our favorite menu item is no longer offered- the appetizer platter. While the staff continues to be friendly and efficient, no one could provide a rationale. All of the individual components are still being served, but now they have to be purchased a la carte and/or are served with unwanted sides. Our suggestion: Keep the platter and, if you must, raise the price. The star rating is for the food and service, but the manager who made this menu change should be horse whipped.

Sandy S.

Yelp
Love the Greek food here. Atmosphere is great. Service exceptional. My favorites have to be Greek salad and Gyros. Best calamari around. Don't forget to try their lemonade.

Victoria

Yelp
Was very disappointed on 7/25/24 . length of time from drink order to table 15 minutes, appetizer after drinks came (dolmades) 20 minutes. ordered octopus appetizer for $29.99, received one narrow 5 inch piece. Even time to pay check was 15 minutes. It was moderately busy with plenty of staff. Will not return.

Mark S.

Yelp
Despite passing Hellenic too many times to count over many years, sadly , we never stopped until this past Saturday for lunch!! We loved it!! The food was so good!! The olives, the Dolmades, the beets & the salads were all so fresh and delicious! Our server was very friendly & professional- we never had to wait for anything. We have added Hellenic to our "must go to" list and look forward to returning in the Spring. If you have been passing this restaurant by like us, step on the brakes & go enjoy some great food!!

Janet I.

Yelp
First stop in 30 years, better than I remembered. We just stopped in for appetizers and Greek wine. We started with the cauliflower croquettes with spicy feta dip. Very tasty. Then we ordered the dip platter to share. It was huge and we took so much of it home. The best Taramasalata I have had in years and the eggplant dip was outstanding. Both the hummus and split pea dip needed olive and salt. Love the Greek white wine. Wishing they had Ouzo of Plomaria on their menu. That's my favorite! I will definitely stop in again and try something more substantial that appetizers next time

Robert S.

Yelp
Wow-what a surprise. Club sandwich platter was huge --Turkey thick, fresh and tender. The "little plate of 3 appetizers (waitress Robin chose for us)--was soooo good....spinach flake pastry pie, special feta on pita, calamari were top notch. Portions are large, so order to share.

Bill B.

Yelp
I have been visiting Hellenic for close to 40 years. It was our go-to place for breakfast that my kids loved. The atmosphere sitting outside in public north fork was the vibe all the city folks sort. The lemonade is a must-have as well as the Gyro. So many authentic greek specialties all prepared with fresh natural ingredients. If you like Greek food and happen to be on the north fork this place should be on your bucket list. If you happen to be traveling on the Ferry call and order take out and bring it on the boat with you!

Katherine B.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place!!! Totally found it on a whim and I'm so glad I did. The food is outstanding and the staff is so nice. I even considered going back twice in two days!

Hawkin C.

Yelp
We decide to stop here for dinner coming from Orient Point long island, we ordered the 84.00 Appertizer platter for two. The dish came was served within 7 to 8 minutes for a dish that size it was too fast, the only thing on plate that was hot was the calamari, everything else was either room temperature or cold and we could have count the pieces of chicken and pork, gyro pieces on dish. We had this dish in Astoria Queen's New York, it could easily feed four people and left over. The price we paid and what was served on plate it is an embarrassment not freshly cook food.

Maureen W.

Yelp
Had nice lunch except the porch area smelled like oil. A bit disturbing. Next time I'll sit inside.

Brian L.

Yelp
I have been traveling to Orient Point since the mid 1970's, and was always intrigued with the restaurant Hellenic. This became more relevant, that both my wife and I love authentic Greek cuisine. I recently visited the restaurant and gave rave reviews a little while ago, but didn't know the name of our server until today, Heidi C. The stars aligned just right, as she again was our waitress. It is so imperative to have the right wait staff especially when bringing out culinary magic. Heidi is one of the best people to serve us food for years. Her attention to detail, charming demeanor and knowing when to approach the table, makes her wonderful, a real asset to the restaurant. My wife who is very "picky" when going to a restaurant, really loves this place and so do I. This is a diamond establishment, where after many decades, I decided to go and eat there. Simply stated, best Greek food for 100 miles. A+++++++++++++++

Jill A.

Yelp
We moved away and this is the food we crave!! Never disappoints. Food quality and flavor is unmatched.

Gabriel P.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem on the North Fork of Long Island NY. The restaurant has an ambiance that was made for relaxation both inside and outside. We ate our meal outdoors and started with the fresh squeezed lemonade. It was ice cold and delicious ! The waiter was very friendly and brought us our appetizers quickly. All the food was outstanding with a flavor that tasted like the Mediterranean. The entire experience was awesome. The kids had plenty of room to run around and play outside on the grass field while the Wife and I enjoyed sparkling wine and food that tasted like it came from Europe ! The desserts were absolutely fantastic. We tried a few flavors of the homemade Gelato. The kids absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back for more family fun !!

Michael E.

Yelp
I can't tell you how many times I've passed this restaurant and said to myself "You have to eat here one day". I did make an attempt once while working on the East end of Long Island, but the parking lot was so crowded that there was no chance of getting a parking spot quickly. Oh BTW Yelper Amanda J. was with me and she has very little patience. FYI Amanda J is also my daughter and she complains to her mother about every little thing. Now that I have that off my chest, back to the restaurant. So it's Saturday and I have a small project near this restaurant and Mrs. E is with me, so let's give it a go. Parking area not too crowded and although pretty busy we are seated quickly. First, our waiter is very professional. Explains the menu and makes some suggestions. Wife has a gyro platter, and I go with their specialty burger. Burger was huge. Half pounder, with lettuce tomato and pickles. Fries on the side. My wife loved her gyro and my burger was beyond excellent. For desert we had a trio of their home made Gelato. Oh my was that good. We also took home some of their home made baklava, for a snack later on. Somehow it just disappeared and I never had any. Hmmmmm interesting Mrs. E. No question I liked this restaurant and recommend it. Just remember in the summer it will be a long wait to get in but we'll worth it.

Annette L.

Yelp
I was glad to read the review that you were going to restore the platter to the menu. I look forward to coming to the Hellenic snack bar again very soon to enjoy my favorite Greek food. No I'm not. I'm not saying that but now I put.

Jen B.

Yelp
Service: 5/5 Food: 2/5 Ambience: 2/5 On the food: we ordered the spanakopita to start. It had a nice dill flavor but otherwise was too salty and seemed like it had been reheated in a microwave as some parts were lukewarm and others hot. Would've been so much better to do so in an air fryer or something that would keep the phyllo layers nice and crispy. We both ordered the lamb open-faced sandwich and were disappointed. The lamb was lacking in flavor and partially ground up - not in nice chunks. The tomato mixture didn't have great flavor. Only the tzatziki was decent. This might be a nice location in the summertime but in the fall it just feels like you're sitting in a room of glass - cold and no decor. We kept our jackets on the entire time. We wished we would've eaten at the otter Greek restaurant in town. The only good thing about this restaurant was our server who was friendly and attentive.

K L.

Yelp
We've been driving past this place for years and finally gave it a try! We appreciated their covered outdoor dining option and large selection of menu items! The one food item I would have expected to see on the menu was Falafel but this was not the case. To start we ordered the Cauliflower Croquettes and Lentil Soup. Both were enjoyed! I like a tasting of several items off menus, so I ordered "The Small Plate" where I could order 5 items from the appetizer menu (also the option to order just 3 items). I ordered the following: 1. Fried Calamari with Skordalia sauce (excellent, especially the sauce which I'd never had before!) 2. Hummus (a bit bland in my opinion) 3. Pita with Tzatziki (excellent) 4. Dolmades (mushier than I'm used to but nice flavor) 5. Split Pea Salad (nice and fresh, especially with the dill!). Spouse ordered the burger and was very happy with it, very filling! We would definitely return!

Suzanne A.

Yelp
A favorite every time I travel back home. It's been 20 years since I have been to Hellenic and I continue to be amazed at their food. Right off of Rte 25 in East Marion a small snack shop turned restaurant is a timeless place in history. From their appetizers like the Grilled Haloumi to everything on their menu ... too many wonderful items to list....Souvlaki and Gyros are amazing. This is a must stop if you like Greek food. If you don't no worries they also serve hamburgers, fries, etc. This place will not disappoint. And the wait staff are excellent.

Leah G.

Yelp
First time eating here and we were super impressed! My partner is gluten and dairy free and they were incredibly helpful in telling us what she could substitute for the options she was interested in. The service was incredible and the food was SO GOOD. The coffee was very smooth. It reminded me of that TikTok trend in 2020 where people made whipped coffee, except it's way better. It's a cute little spot with adorable outdoor seating. Definitely recommend it, especially to those with allergies.

Chris G.

Yelp
Very tasty dishes! We love the gyro platter! The thick steak fries are to die for. The octopus is tender and delicious. The Moussaka was awesome. The interior dining room is quaint. It's our NOFO Greek spot.

Susan B.

Yelp
If a greek restaurant can't make a Greek salad, i don't want to go there. $18 for a bunch of iceberg lettuce a few olives , pale tomatoes and feta cheese-- nothing else-- blah!

Kevin W.

Yelp
The finest Greek food on all of Long Island. And the service is great. Call ahead and take out for your ride on the cross sound ferry.

Angie M.

Yelp
My husband started going to Hellenic a couple of years back during the beginning of Covid, and now it has become a must have. Every time one of us passes by we surprise each other with menu items we've never tried. The tzatziki sauce and their pita is my absolute favorite!

Jim N.

Yelp
The food was good but the service was atrocious. It took over an hour and a half to have TWO dinners served to me and my wife. And our waitress was late to ask if we wanted more drinks, and then when my wife asked about my Heineken Zero, which was late in coming, she said "I know..." Then, the amount on our bill didn't match the amount on the receipt. It was more. Ridiculous.

Shannon H.

Yelp
Outdoor Dining Review: Hellenic has been in business for years & years. The reputation mirrored the quality of the restaurant completely! Located in East Marion, the drive out East is so relaxing. Make sure to stop at local farm stands & stores on the way. There's a ton of parking in the back of the restaurant. Due to COVID & Social Regulations, majority of seating was outdoor. The outdoor area was gorgeous. The tables were far apart. Servers were wearing masks, and sanitizing quite frequently. The bathrooms were spotless. For a table of 2, I had to wait around 15 minutes. At 2:30 on a Tuesday, this restaurant was jumping! That's how you know the food is good and the restaurant is popular. The prices are SPECTACULAR! For the amount of food & quality of food...the prices are awesome, especially for the East End. The service was friendly. Even thought it was my first time here, I was treated like a regular. For drinks, I went with the standard lemonade. This place is absolutely incredible! Even the lemonade is over the top delicious. The food was downright delicious. I could go on and on about it. My advice is to come hungry. The portions are humongous. If you don't have room for dessert (like me), order it take out. All of the food was so fresh. I will be reviewing what I tried: -Fried Calamari (Half Portion): Wow this was delicious. The squid was so tender and expertly cooked. The breading was total perfection. Let's not forget about that AMAZING skordalia sauce. So good. The half portion is perfect to share between 2 people. 5 out of 5 stars -Large Greek Salad: One question, how do they cut the onions so thin? Beautiful presentation! The salad was incredibly fresh and truly was the best Greek salad I've ever tasted. The dressing was great. I ordered the anchovies on the side. The large is great for sharing between 1-3, maybe 4 people. 5 out of 5 stars -Beef Gyro: This behemoth of a gyro was the best I've ever had! No wonder they ship gyro meat to people. This was the biggest and most flavorful gyro I've ever been served. Big fan of the thin onions. Huge fan of the seasoned tomato's. The tzatziki sauce was so fresh. The gyro didn't come with a side, but it really didn't need one. I was stuffed after eating it. 5 out of 5 stars -Baklava: I was so full from dinner, but had to try this dessert. I opted to get it to go. Wow this baklava was fat and filled with nuts! The honey sauce was gold! I would 100% order this again. 5 out of 5 stars Overall, I'm so happy I tried Hellenic. Anytime I get a Greek food craving, I'm going to make the drive here!

Nan V.

Yelp
I have enjoyed eating at Hellenic for many years. I have ordered almost every item on their menu. Never have I ever been disappointed. Their food and in particular, their professionalism are outstanding. Plenty of easy parking as well.

Jill F.

Yelp
Just updating to say I still love this restaurant and still make the 45 min drive just for dinner! Food is always delicious and staff are always friendly and efficient.

David A M.

Yelp
Consistently delicious food. Friendly and wonderful staff. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Meltem O.

Yelp
Worst food that I have ever eaten Lamp was bad Soup is just broth and orzo, not eatable Service was slow Do not go there

Emily N.

Yelp
Somehow, despite living on the east end for most of my life, and despite their stellar reputation, I had never eaten here until today. Of all times to try a restaurant for the first time, quarantine take-out it is! They NAILED IT. portions are generous, prices are on par with other local businesses- and the staff were super helpful and sweet. I'm no guru on Greek food but our guest of honor at dinner was, and he gave Hellenic the thumbs up! They packages my order perfectly which is typically a pain point for me. I was delighted to support this long time local hot spot, and will be back ASAP!

Kent R.

Yelp
This is a diner with retentions to be something else. Still excellent home cooking, with real ingredients and no-nonsence presentation. It used to be much more casual when we'd pick up a salad to eat on the Cross Island Ferry a decade ago, but now it's become a bit of a destination place. Great salads (around $16). Amazing prices for their NYT award winning sandwiches, it's the Hamptons, but you'd never expect to pay $20 for a hamburger, $21 for a turkey Club. Homemade gelato was so-so and it was $10.50 for 2 scoops. Still a goof place, fun and pleasant service. It's the real deal, now with "Hampton" prices.

Tracy K.

Yelp
Out here near the very end of Long Island's north fork, is The Hellenic. On the way to the ferry, or out at Greenport but want something greek, keep going a town further to find one of very few places to stop. Makes it all nicer! If its off season could be closed, in season, go in, more people than can tell from the road, could be hopping. I'm a fan here to say the least. Not typical boring roadside, they have some nice light, traditional, and even fresh fish in season. They use local produce so can at times get exceptional tomatoes. Love their weird eggplant salad & homemade grape leaves. Also love to see these big platters groups have ordered, that I haven't tried yet. Menu is diverse enough to find what your looking for. Gyros are huge but all beef, not lamb. Fish available in season. Big roomy main dining area, open kitchen, and large outdoor /covered patio for busy season. Family owned non chain, always friendly locals working here.

Michaela A.

Yelp
This place is always so delicious and refreshing, I always try to come here as often as I can in the summer for their chicken souvlaki, sometimes I have to pick apart the chicken cause some of its undercooked but that doesn't happen every time..., Also the lemonade is too notch. Very nice atmosphere.

Chengetayi T.

Yelp
This is just what the doctor ordered.. i love loved this place. It was just a few miles up from our hotel. The wait time was very short for a saturday afternoon which i liked. There was only outside seating as we are still in the middle of a pandemic. They tables were spaced out and all servers wore masks. Here we go with the food... every single dish was made with love. The pastachio was extremely well seasoned. It reminded me of shepherd's pie with pasta on the bottom. The shrimp salad was also very good and the shrimp was yummy and fresh. I normally dont like porgie but this fish was grilled to perfection. It was divine, I'm coming back for the fish. The shrimp, spinach and orzo was also terrific. My taste buds were literally dancing at this restaurant. We also got the 5 appetizer deal. I forgot to take a picture. All the apps that Luca recommended were yummy. I have to say that our server Luca was fantastic. He took the time to carefully explain the menu and his recommendations were great. He is such a sweet person and shared that he too was getting married at a local vineyard. Wishing him and his fiance all the best through his planning. We later saw Luca and his fiance while we were dining at another restaurant on Front St. He made sure to stop and say hi. He's such a lovely guy. Overall, this was a fantastic afternoon. It was a gorgeous day outside. The service was awesome and everyone was just friendly. I cant wait to bring my husband here
