The Essential Restaurants of Northern Liberties | Eater Philly

"A newer gem in Northern Liberties, Hello Vietnam is a great spot for to enjoy pho, tasty Bánh mì, and other Vietnamese dishes. They are BYOB — so there’s no excuse to add a little more fun (read: libations) to the mix." - Ernest Owens

Hello Vietnam Review - Northern Liberties - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"The prequel to Hello Vietnam was a place called Nam Son Bakery - a South Philly spot with maybe the best banh mi sandwich in the city. When that closed in 2019, the owners opened Hello Vietnam in Northern Liberties with the same incredible banh mis on bread that’s baked in-house. But they now also have a full dinner service. The BYOB has a short but excellent menu that ranges from appetizers like grilled beef wrapped in grape leaves, broken rice plates, and huge bowls of pho for around $12. You could definitely come here for a weeknight date, but it would still work for your weekly “book club” meet up that’s really just an excuse to talk about the latest episode of Temptation Island." - Sydney McElwee

Where to Eat Doughnuts in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"Hello Donuts, the collab between ReAnimator Coffee and a group of musicians, used to sell its traditional and vegan treats at local markets and restaurants, but now these doughnuts are available at a permanent shop in East Kensington. Along with specialties like a vegan maple bourbon, look for seasonal flavors and fritters on Fridays." - Sarah Maiellano

The first time we came here, there were no physical menus. We had to scan a code with our phones to see the menu. I don't like places that do that, so I probably would not have come again. We did come again though and I am glad we did. They have actual physical menus now. They had banh cuon on the menu. Banh cuon is a dish I used to eat as a kid but had not had for many years because it is usually served with pork and I no longer eat pork. I was happy to be able to order the banh cuon with shrimp. Everything looked great and the shrimp was crispy and not burnt. Also, the server (I think he's also the chef) was very cool and friendly. I would definitely come here again.

Got the pho filet Mignon to go. Very good and well packed. Just had to heat the broth at home. Good portions and friendly staff!

I ordered the beef round eye pho and it was really good! This is the first bowl of pho I had and didn’t feel the need to add all the extra sauces to it. I only added the jalapeños, the bean sprouts, and the herbs. The restaurant secretary is very kind and welcoming. I will be back!☺️

Was craving some phở and did not have enough cash to try Pho 75 so I decided to check out this restaurant, which accepted credit cards. I asked for the chicken pho, and they told me something to the effect that they used a different style of chicken preparation. Basically it was not authentic chicken pho, but that was fine with me. So yea, it was a poor man's chicken pho, and hilariously with some broccoli and carrot in it, too 😄 Anyway, I was ok with that, because the broth and the noodles were good enough for me that the chicken and the veggies, while odd, didn't bother me. But yea, if you like authentic chicken pho, don't get it here 😄 Service wise, the main server -- perhaps the owner -- was very friendly. But they can probably improve the ordering / communication, because the kitchen had significant difficulty / confusion with my spring rolls to go order. The owner was visibly frustrated with the kitchen bringing out wrong things etc. and I reminded them 2-3 times what the order was. I felt more amused than anything else 😄 Ultimately they did get the order correct. Overall it's a 4 ⭐ across the board.

Google
I walked in and immediately embarrassed myself trying to order pad Thai. They were so gracious, and I explained I’ve been driving about 10 hours with my toddler and elderly mother. Of course they don’t have pad Thai. Anyway, it was absolutely delicious. And they were so kind to my busy 3 year old, playing games with him and bringing him some ice cold water with a bendy straw. Highly recommend it. It was also fast. Yum yum yum!

This is my favorite place to get pho in Philly! The staff couldn’t be nicer and service is always so fast. I recommend this place to everyone!

Google
The best pho I ever had. The service is great. They provide recommendations and answer your questions. You can tell the orders are made fresh. I ordered take out the 2 times I have eaten from here. Next time I want to dine in and try other dishes. The place is so cute !🥰 Love how they package the to go orders with food quality in mind

Yelp
I like the tofu banh mi and the classic. The summer rolls are also reliable. I like the Vietnamese iced coffee as a sweet pick-me-up. Great takeout option in the neighborhood if you want a well-made sandwich. Orders are ready quickly.

Yelp
Let me just start by saying that the food is good. It's decent Vietnamese food in an alright spot that I enjoy ordering from. And maybe I'd enjoy it a lot more if they didn't mess up my order each time. I've ordered from here a total of three times. They've gotten my order wrong two out of the three. Once was a mistake. Twice seems like an issue with management, especially when it's the same exact mistake each time. If I didn't live as close as I do, this would be a massive issue, because money would be down the drain. Maybe make your online ordering a little clearer for the kitchen to understand, because when certain items keep being done incorrectly, then it's time to make a change.

Yelp
Yummy!! Food is fresh and service is kind. This spot is still pretty contactless (QR code menu, order placed online even when seated, though you can have some server support) so that was slightly odd, but it made it an easy spot to catch up with a friend over some light bites. We came midafternoon on a Saturday and found it to be quiet, though there were some online orders being picked up. Their shrimp summer rolls are great, and I've also enjoyed their tofu broken rice in tomato sauce. Prices were decent, especially for their NoLibs location.

Yelp
This is a cute spot to grab some Vietnamese food while hanging out in Northern Liberties. The staff and owner were very friendly and welcoming, making space for us to pop in for a snack and some boba. We had the shrimp summer rolls, which came with a delicious hoisin-type sauce versus the typical peanut sauce (which we don't usually prefer) and their fish sauce was good as well. My kiddo crushed her taro smoothie with boba and has asked to come back soon!

Yelp
Ordered Door dash from this place and was very happy with my decision. They had a coupon for $3 off $20 purchase which worked great for me. I ordered 2 vegan tofu banh mi's and an order of tofu summer rolls. The food was delivered pretty quickly and I don't think it was too expensive. The banh mi was still warm when it arrived and the summer rolls were still cool (like they're supposed to be!). The hoagie roll for the banh mi was really nice. No hard edges, perfectly soft. The veggies were fresh and crunchy. The tofu was a great texture and the sauce had a little spice but not much. I really enjoyed the sandwich and it was only $10 on door dash which I think is reasonable. I thought the summer rolls tasted very fresh. The dipping sauce it came with was sweet but also savory, perfect pairing. I even put some dipping sauce on my sandwich. I'll definitely be ordering from here again and would love to check out the actual restaurant.

Yelp
I'm happy to update my review and say that I've tried other things on their menu - still haven't gone back to tempt fate with the chicken pho and don't think I ever will. I have tried their veggie pho - which you can choose veggie or chicken broth. I went with the veggie broth which was light, but flavorful enough with all of the veggies. My biggest gripe is probably how horribly the veggies are cut - a lot of them are stuck together like the broccoli for example, weren't fully cut so they were huge and all connected. But aesthetics aside, it's a solid noodle soup and hit the spot for me. I tried their tofu banh mi last night $10 and the tofu is marinated really well, good bread, and nice crisp fresh veggies - would absolutely recommend and reorder that one too. I've yet to eat in, and have only done take out so far - but I'm glad to have tried this establishment again in this neighborhood.

Yelp
Came here for lunch today with my parents, we got the chicken summer rolls, a pork banh mi, fried tofu vermicelli bowl, and shrimp fried rice. Everything was fresh and delicious, the service was great, they were so kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend and go back!!!

Yelp
Ok I'm wavering on how to rate this place. On first blush the menu looked good enough, but like the vegan dishes were going to require substractions rather than fully composed entrees. We ordered the tofu banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) and the Fried Vegan Spring Roll Vermicelli. The tofu banh mi was fantastic, maybe the best I ever had? I was prepared to be disappointed, because often times they make it vegan by pulling out the mayo and then the sandwich is not moist enough. However, the tofu was cooked in a delicious savory sauce that gave it lots of flavor and compensated for the mayo. Also it was the first time I had banh mi on a soft baguette, which was brilliant. It made the whole sandwich easier to eat, and pleasant at that. The pickled veggies were delicious, while the jalapenos packed a punch without being overpowering. Then we got to the "Fried Vegan Spring Roll Vermicelli". I would have thought with "vegan" in the name the dish would be well adapted. It was not. It was essentially plain rice noodles with fried spring rolls on top, and a small medley of cabbage mix veggies. The spring rolls were not good--I dont know how they made a fried food unappetizing but it was probably the only time I have left a restaurant with leftover spring rolls in my life (albeit, they were oddly more enjoyable as leftovers). And the soy sauce that the waiter provided in lieu of the traditional sauce (which likely had products made from fishes) was inadequate to carry the flavor of the ensemble. I would give a hard pass to this dish. The restaurant was empty on a frigid night, but it seemed like there were many takeout orders as we dined. I liked the ambiance of the cozy inside. The wait staff was a bit green, but they served us earnestly and at the end of the day that's all I care about. Four stars: the banh mi single handedly carries this review. I'd love to see the restaurant expand their menu with vegan condiments like mayo, more veggie-heavy dishes, and even plant-based meats. Ultimately, I will definitely be back for that banh mi. WOW.

Yelp
I came here with my family after I first moved to Philly. I wanted to try pho with a twist, so I tried the beef stew version they had here. I recommend trying it for anyone else who loves beef stew and pho. It really does taste like a mix of the two! The tomato-based broth and tender chunks of meat and carrots are hearty alternative to the standard soup. It has rice noodles and the same toppings as regular pho, so you don't quite forget it's supposed to be a pho dish. My mom and aunt had the BBQ pork chops, which they seemed to enjoy. I would definitely come back with friends, and maybe try one of the specialty drinks next time. They were out of many of the options on the menu when we visited.

Yelp
The tofu spring rolls are a MUST get!! Absolutely delicious. The beef broth in both phos we ordered were delicious. The only food I wasn't a huge fan of was the seafood in the pho. however, the broth was soooo good, it makes up for it. The service was also fantastic! We ordered for dine-in using the online app and they accidentally made a mistake and brought out two seafood phos. Once we told them it was a mistake, they took one back and brought out the correct fresh pho a few minutes later. I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
This is a cute spot right in Northern Liberties. I'll come here from time to time when I want a very good Vietnamese iced coffee. I haven't tried any other drinks but I will one day. But I'm someone who always order the same thing because it's safe I also like their shrimp summer rolls. Give them a try if you are in the area. Reason for a 4 star is because the summer roll didn't have cucumbers and their sauce was a little watery, but this is preference.

Yelp
Popped in quick for a bite to eat & picked a great day to dine outside! I was seeking a lunch spot and had actually picked something across the street but they were renovating, so I had the surprising delight of dining at Hello Vietnam, a small Vietnamese Bistro that has a delightful menu! The gorgeous weather called for outdoor dining, soaking up the sun while enjoying a little banh mi & apps. Service was fast. I was able to place my order through their QR Code website/app and it allows you to either pay as you finish the order or keep it open if you wanted to add more items later. For an appetizer, I had their Shrimp Summer Rolls, which came with a peanut hoisin sauce for dipping and I gotta say, the combination of the fresh shrimp and the sweet and savory sauce was a match made in heaven. Shortly thereafter came the Chicken Banh Mi sandwich. Again, I used that peanut hoisin sauce on it and it was absolutely wonderful. The flavors were so bold and rich, and the crispy bread was excellent. They used a bigger slice of cucumber in it as opposed to slicing it julienne, which was fine but definitely was on that fine line of being too much cucumber flavor for me personally, as I typically don't like cucumbers outside of banh mi and soups. To cap off my meal, I couldn't resist trying their Vietnamese iced coffee. It was so flavorful and sweet, with a thicker texture, almost like a coffee made with frozen caramel cubes in it instead of ice. Chilled just right, plus it kept me going on my way back to Jersey. If you're in the area and looking for some scrumptious Vietnamese cooking, I positively recommend giving Hello Vietnam a try.

Yelp
Restaurant week in northern liberties, the only safe time to be that close to Kensington. We got reservations but restaurant was empty, picked up while we were there. We did the fried wontons and spring rolls, both crispy and very good. For entree we went with filet mignon pho and seafood pho. I'm not sure why I went with seafood, I don't really care for seafood or fish in general, I just know every pho with chicken I've ever had has been gross. Either way they were both good, almost great. I think flavorful is the word that would describe what was missing from both. I say that honestly, I mean most pho is not good unless they know what they are doing. But this pho was good, had adequate salt, but just lacking that extra oomph, maybe they missed the basil I don't know I'm not Vietnamese or a foodie (2022). Restaurant week had crème brûlée cheesecake and tiramisu on the menu, we got one of each. OMG! Wiped that crème brûlée clean, down to every last strawberry bite. 1) If I'm in Philadelphia and 2) have a hankering for pho and 3) the sun is still out I will go back here. The service was as good as you'd want in a restaurant. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We have been ordering here for a couple years and it seems like it's not as good as it used to be. We got it again recently and everything is fine but not great. We got pho and they did not include any of the sauces that go along with it, the meat was still wrapped in plastic and frozen. Just disappointing.

Jim C.

Yelp
Order the steam crepe and gave me six pieces of it plus I order extra fish sauce and they didn't even give me one! Terrible never order to go from them.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Ordered take here a few times and you can't go wrong. Perfect spot for some pho on a cold day or if your feeling under the weather. If I'm not ordering pho, usually pick between a pork vermicelli bowl or pork Manh mi hoagie. Honestly all of their grilled manh mi are great. They also offer vegetarian/vegan dishes too! I'll make sure to take photos next time-since I'm obviously tempted to eating it right away.

Yelp
I stop by for lunch and had the BBQ shrimp broken rice.. it was full of flavors remind me of Vietnam.. The waiter was nice and attentive..

Yelp
Pros - offers indoor and outdoor seating - great food portions - their vermicelli and rice dishes are super tasty, love the fish sauce! - this place makes their food FAST, so it's super convenient when we need to grab a meal quickly - they have byob - great service! Cons - they no longer offer bubble drinks :(

Yelp
i didn't dine in at this restaurant, but upon ordering from takeout, im kind of disappointed in what i recieved. i ordered a broken rice dish called Bo luc lac that didn't come with cucumber, salad, and carrots that was shown in the photos online. Just rice, beef and two small tomato slices. there was only a small amount of beef with barely any onions on it and the beef wasn't the best that i've had, it was super chewy.. just sucks that i wanted to try something new and it's a disappointment.

Yelp
After seeing this location on FYI I was not impressed as much. The restaurant location was not near parking unfortunately a little hard to park if you driving I recommend taking an lyft or Uber. I notice this location did not offer any special drinks as mentioned on the website which I think can be misleading to customers. The Pho was a little bland and did offer a lot of extra options. I think it could have targeted a little bit more better with pho ans of coruse drinks .. a lot of Pho places offer Coconut drink ls in which they did not. Overall if your not looking for that big of a deal of Pho .. thos place may be for you. However, the summer shrimp rolls were pretty good.

Hadiyah K.

Yelp
everything was reeeaallly delicious Great quality great taste and the pho was made with love and perfection I really appreciate the owner for coming out and greeting everyone in the restaurant he came over to us personally to ask how did we like the food and honest review it was AMAAAAZING i wish I could give 10 stars interacting with your customers is a plus everyone was so attentive and giving us an amazing experience I will be back and I'll bring more ppl because that place should have waaay more business ITS A HIDDEN GEM with great food

Yelp
Hello Vietnam is Pho-nominal. Do I need to review after that...guess so...or Pho. Okay, I'm done. This joint is on point during the pandemic. Has plenty of dine outside options as they added new tables, but their takeout is just as good. Ordered on a Friday evening and it took 30 minutes. Very kind gentleman over the Pho-ne and quick in person. What we snagged: -Summer Rolls (SO fresh and tightly wrapped) -Soy Salomon Vermicelli Bowl (Dope, but salmon could have been less dry) -Shrimp Vermicelli Bowl (Amazing sauce) Overall, this joint is top notch. HUGE portions too. We have a meal for the next day. Bowls come with a spring roll that was VERY light and fresh. Highly recommend for a light summer meal. 110% will be back to dine in in September 8 in Philly or dine out during a cool summer evening.

Yelp
Got to try 4 different banh mi from this spot, so I think I got a good idea of what Hello Vietnam has to offer! The bread on the sandwiches was a bit tough and pretty dry. There wasn't much sauce on each one. The veggies on top were in long strips, making it a bit hard to take bites of without it falling apart, The beef was very good quality and the flavor wasn't standard lemongrass, which I liked a lot. The chicken was the crowd favorite, but pork sausage had a really good texture and taste to it. The tofu on wasn't really crispy, and it mostly just tasted like tofu, instead of imparting a specific flavor profile onto the sandwich. Compared to other banh mi spots, I think the price for the portion here isn't worth it for your go-to spot- but once in a while, for convenience in NoLibs, could be worth a try! In general, the menu prices here are a bit high, which has kept me from ordering in the past, but I now know that they do serve quality, authentic ingredients, just on the pricier side.
google avatar

Angeline D.

Yelp
Read the great reviews and wanted to quickly stop by to grab a banh mi to go. When you first enter, you're welcomed by a dining area to your right and a separate dining area to your left. It looked very clean and the decor was quite simple but nice - very home-like. I wish I had a picture of the BBQ beef banh mi I ordered, but had to take it to go and eat it quickly. Let me tell you, this was the tastiest banh mi I have tried in philly so far. They add this somewhat spicy spread to it and it just adds extra flavor to the whole thing. I thoroughly enjoyed it, didn't leave a single crumb. For people who do not tolerate spice well, make sure you ask for no jalapeño and the spread they put on! Quick and friendly service, highly recommend! Would definitely return here when I'm in NoLibs again and will try their other items!

Yelp
Had some extra time and an empty belly while hanging around center city today and wanted to try to find someplace new to enjoy a meal. Hello Vietnam came up under "Hot and New" so I decided to see what they had to offer. I ordered the small Beef Pho and the Crispy Spring Rolls. I really wanted to try the short ribs appetizer but the waitress was kind enough to let me know that with the size of the Pho I wouldn't be able to finish THAT and the appetizer. I'll just have they next time. The spring rolls were delicious and the dipping sauce was a nice compliment. It had the perfect amount of taro in my opinion. The beef pho was delicious and the broth was full of flavor. They were definitely not skimpy on the beef either. I ate as much as I could and they boxed the rest for me. I also must say that the waitress was super nice. She must've filled my water cup like 6 times (sorry and thank you) and was just pleasant in general. If you're in the area please give them a try. My belly is full and it cost me less than twenty bucks.

Yelp
Walk 20 minutes got there at 7:50pm. The server told me it's closed because the restaurant hours is to close at 8. I told them its 10 minutes to 8 but they didn't care. I have been a customer for last 3 years. Unbelievable bad service!
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
Consistently good standard Vietnamese- nothing creative but the basics are well executed and they deliver.
google avatar

Yelp
When the lines at the street festival were too long, I found this place for a nice alternative! The spring rolls were the perfect crispness and the summer rolls were a cool, refreshing treat. I did takeout, but I'd love to go back for a full meal.

Yelp
A true gem in the neighborhood. Quality food with great customer service, I usually do take out but I look forward to dine in soon.

Yelp
A1 yummy yummy in my tummy. Great stuff under new management . Good the service manager really nice. His name is long and he will make sure ur food fresh and delicious

Stephen S.

Yelp
Food was ok. The worst is the service. It ruins the entire experience. Because you feel disgusted. No matter how good the food is, or not, whenever they give you a careless attitude, you would feel like you came to the wrong place. Bad experience.

Stephen P.

Yelp
Went there for lunch with a friend. I've been eating pho for around 20 years in countless places. Their pho was acceptable, but I'd rate it as last on all of the places I've had it in. Broth: Cloudy but flavorful. Selection: Poor. Five options: beef, filet, chicken, seafood, veggie. I'm used to seeing a variety of selections (I prefer pho tai nam, but will sometimes order other combos). The compression/limited selection was disappointing. Presentation: Decent. Yes, the meat was still cooking in the broth. The broth was not exceptionally hot, but the meat did finish cooking. Noodles in a large lump in the bottom of the bowl. Normal sized serving. Sides: Lime, basil, sprouts. Only one small plate for two people with limited basil, I'm used to a lot more (allowing munching on sprouts, etc.) NO JALAPENOS!!! I asked for some, they were "out", but after a few minutes, they found a few pieces. Sauces: Only sriracha and hoison. No chili oil/roasted chilis, etc. Cafe sua da: premixed, but decent. A lot of ice in the glass; for $5, I'd hope for more cafe. My recommendation: Go if you need a pho fix and don't care what's in it. But if you can, check the menus of other places -- if they offer a dozen different pho combos, they probably are making a better pho than Hello Vietnam Bistro.

Yelp
Came here a couple weeks ago just to grab my banh mi fix (takeout only for me). There aren't many Vietnamese restaurants on the north side of Philly outside of Chinatown so this is a plus in the bustling northern liberties neighborhood. Staff is extra friendly. It's not a huge establishment, the seats were pretty much filled up and I spotted what looked like an extra room for larger parties. Either way after I took my order they had a nice bench to sit whilst my sandwich was being prepared where they alerted me when it was ready. The sandwich was pretty good. Bread was perfection. Sometimes the bread on banh mi sandwiches are too hard and hurt the roof of my mouth but not this one. They were not stingy with the toppings and garnishments especially carrots. Almost a little more than needed. There was a huge cucumber slice inside. The meat was nicely cooked, I would say maybe just a TAD bit lacking in flavor but I still thoroughly enjoyed. Price was decent. Would definitely come back here to fulfill my craving.

Yelp
A great little place with delicious and authentic Vietnamese food. It's somewhat basic but very clean and fairly-priced, with attentive friendly service. During night markets or other events in Northern Liberties, it's quite funny that people will wait 30-45 minutes in a food truck line outside, while this place isn't even busy with plenty of tables open. I'm definitely looking forward to returning soon.

Pedro A.

Yelp
food does not match pictures in menu. ordered pork chops and they usually come with a fried egg. on the menu it shows a porkchop with fried egg. however, they do not serve it with fried egg. fried egg is $2 additional. the porkchop was dry, flavorful, but tough. it was also very thin. this dish was far too expensive for some rice, a meager porkchop, and some lettuce and carrot. i can go to pho ha saigon on adams and get a better meal for less money. also the service here is lacking. i brought up the issue of the menu being deceptive and it was clear the staff was not interested in engaging in a meaningful way. its restaurant week on a saturday, and the restaurant is mostly empty. hard to imagine why after my experience.

Yelp
Recently heard about this place and had the opportunity today to try it. My family and I went here around 3pm so we were the only customers. There were handful of take out customers. The space is nice, not cramped at all. Definitely nicer than most restaurants down in Washington Avenue. The prices here are a bit higher than Washington Ave, but let me tell you, the flavours are very nice, subtle, and fresh. I am willing to pay slightly more for their flavours. Since it is located in Northern Liberties you will have to find street parking (good luck), but it should not be bad as long as you are willing to walk few blocks. This place must be a family run business; they were so friendly and answered all of our questions (it was nice since we were the only ones there). We ordered Broken rice with grilled pork, Obama bun cha, tofu in tomato sauce over rice. At first we were taken back because the food came out all deconstructed. Not what I was expecting. However, the more I ate I kind of liked this deconstructed version, being able to adjust how much noodles and veggies I wanted to add. My family really enjoyed their food (grilled pork, and tofu and tomato over rice - my husband esp liked the tofu dish. It had ground beef sandwiches between the tofu). I ordered Obama bun cha. It is their Hanoi style ground pork meatballs, and with extra grilled pork. The meatball was tender, moist, and filled with awesomeness. The flavours weren't strong which I loved. I asked why it was called "Obama", and they said it was because this dish is what Obama ordered when he ate with Anthony Bourdain in Hanoi. Apparently, that restaurant where Bourdain and Obama ate encased the table, chairs, plates and utensils used by these two men! I probably would have done the same! I probably will get this Obama bun cha again next time, so delicious!

Yelp
came here for lunch on their grand opening day and had such a good meal! i heard it's the same owners as Nam Son Bakery so i had high expectations. i got summer rolls, beef pho and chinese pork banh mi. the summer rolls were delicious. the beef pho broth had SUCh good flavor. my only critique would be that the banh mi needed more meat. but other than that, service was great and i'll be back every hungover sunday

Yelp
I ordered lunch takeout from Ubereats. It only took around 30min before my food was ready for pick up. The service was fast and friendly. I ordered the crispy spring rolls (it came with two, I was just too excited and ate one before I remembered to snap a photo) and a banh mi. Both were excellent, super flavorful. The banh mi tasted really fresh and was quite filling. I'd definitely stop by here for lunch again.

Yelp
When Nam Son on 16th and Washington closed, I thought I may never get to eat my favorite tofu banh mi in the city again. Luckily, chef Tri Tan moved over to a new place, Hello Vietnam, where they serve the same tofu! The tofu is made with a sweet soy sauce whose flavor seeps through every bite. Other places have drier and less flavorful tofu. I've eaten here about three times. It's a more upscale vibe than Nam Son, which was no-frills. The decor and food presentation are sleeker and more modern than those of its competition. The menu is directed toward a Western young professional audience, with names such as the Obama Bun Cha. Ultimately, it's still the traditional stuff one will find on a Vietnamese menu, but repackaged. Unfortunately, they don't have the Vietnamese yogurt that Nam Son had, which was the best in town. This place is doing contactless takeout during the pandemic. I was able to pick up my order with no problem.

Yelp
Outstanding Vietnamese Restaurant in Philadelphia. Both the Summer Rolls and Short Ribs were flavorful, savory and juicy, a complementary combo. We were blown away by the deep tase of the pho broth and the creative meatballs in addition to the beef. We particularly enjoyed the pork chop. Thank you for the delightful service and tastes that brought back memories.

Yelp
My partner and I ordered the Vermicelli Bowls for delivery and the order was fast - I mistakenly gave them my partners phone so we initially didn't pick up when the driver called, but he persisted and after the 3rd ring we finally picked up and got our food! I appreciate him for doing that instead of just leaving the food on our stoop in the 100+ degree heat. We got the BBQ chicken and BBQ pork bowls. I love how they separate out the ingredients for the vermicelli bowls, the veggies tasted very fresh and the meat was delicious - and they gave you a lot of it too! Having the sauce separate too was nice so it wasn't all sticky when it arrived. We added on the spring rolls too, they tasted very fresh and not too greasy. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because the flavor of the dish overall was pretty basic. Nothing to write home about, just tasted like a simple fish sauce. However, compared to other places in the neighborhood I was pleased. Definitely would order here again based on the quality of the food, dependable delivery, and price!

Yelp
I guess any business can have an off night, but this was really off (surprised, dt the great reviews). The service was awful, the food was meh. Yes, the pho broth was great... but Lukewarm. The ban mi was only okay. There were three of us but one of us didn't get their food until the other two were nearly done (and only after we complained). Same for the appetizers. Not sure what happened here.

Yelp
My fiance has been on the hunt for a good Vegan/Vegetarian Pho in the city. We tried one outside of the city which was good and have been looking for one in the city. Most of the authentic places dont have a veggie option so we are limited to begin with. We recently moved to the Northern Liberties area and this place has been on our list to try and we finally made it. They have decided to keep their restaurant week special so we decided to go for that. IT IS SO MUCH FOOD. It comes with a roll or skewer, soup or salad, and an entree with a side of Passionfruit Tea. The night we went, the owner was there and she is the sweetest person ever. She looked after us the whole time and came multiple times to see if we needed anything. The food came out really fast and service was impeccable. Back to the food, I got a chicken skewer and my fiance got a summer avocado roll. BOTH WERE DELICIOUS and I cant wait to come back and have them again. The chicken on the skewer was perfect and the spices on it were just the right amount. The avocado roll had an amazing peanut sauce. Then we got the chicken soup and he got the lotus tofu salad. Both were DELICIOUS again. Usually when I get pho, I mainly eat the broth and the chicken and have a lot of noodles left over. The soup was basically pho broth, chicken, and some veggies. The lotus root salad is something Ive never had before, and it was perfectly crispy. After all the appetizer portion, I was so full, I ended up taking my vermicelli chicken bbq bowl home and he took home his veggie pho. The passionfruit tea on the side was also perfect because it wasnt too sweet. I got the taro milk tea and again perfect and not to sweet. Overall, amazing food, great quality, and impeccable service. We will definitely be back and its become our go-to for some amazing Vietnamese food.

Yelp
I was so excited when I saw NLBID's blurb of Nam Son Bakery's former chef was opening a Vietnamese bistro, that my S.O and I ended up being the first 2 customers in the restaurant. We ordered the blue chip standards. The pho, the vermicelli with grilled pork and Viet iced coffee were flavorful and great. The spring rolls, while fresh and super crispy, was a bit dry and had too much taro in the filling. The pork belly banh mi we go took to go toasted up VERY well. The bread was insanely light and crispy. My only criticism is the filling was a bit light. Service was earnest and very friendly, but be patient as they're still ironing out the kinks. Prices are fair for the portions, much better than the last Viet place that opened in Northern Liberties. A welcome addition to the neighborhood! 3.5 stars for now: we'll be back to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
It's pretty good Certain dishes can be great like the tofu Bahn Mi however there is a little inconsistency that holds the restaurant back If they went for a cleaner overall aesthetic and cleaned up their streetery from looking so junky they'd probably find they have a lot more business. For example two nice tables versus 10 ugly ones probably nets you more overall business. Same idea inside, create a little bit of atmosphere and neighbors would eat dinner here.

Yelp
This place had me at real wooden chopsticks. Wish I could have talked to the owners more but def looked like a family run restaurant. The son sat us down, the dad took our order and I'm guessing the mom gave us the bill. We got there early but it def filled up quite quickly for a Wednesday night. Be careful on the portions. We got the small pho bowl between the two of us and it was hugeeee and we couldn't finish it. Also got the tofu bah me (spelling?) and the avacado rolls. Will def be back.

Yelp
Avocado summer rolls, glazed short ribs, and beef vermicelli was ordered and delivered in less than 20 minutes. I haven't had Vietnamese this good in several years. Incredibly fresh and mouthwatering delicious. The glazed short ribs were the stand out and are very reminiscent of the Korean Kalbi. Wonderful char with a tangy but slightly sweet glaze. The beef with the vermicelli was tender and full of flavor. Hello Vietnam, we're have you been all of my life?

Yelp
Today I found myself with a hunger that could only be sated by a bahn mi sandwich. Ordered the tofu bahn mi and summer rolls for delivery. I've eaten a lot of bahn mi in my day and I can't safely say it ranks in the top 3. The summer rolls were awesome - just wished I had a little more of that awesome peanut sauce. Delivery was quick. Top notch experience.
