"After 13 years, the Lincoln Park location of Hema’s Kitchen has closed. The original Devon location remains unaffected. The restaurant featured a reliable menu of North Indian favorites, but business had slowed over the years at 2411 N. Clark Street. Signage announcing the shutter is up and the property has been listed." - Daniel Gerzina

It's nice having a solid, not crazy expensive Indian spot to go to without having to travel all the way up to Devon. My only knock is that the bathroom was very dirty.

Love that you can bring your own phone without a corkage fee. The food was a lot spicier than most indian food.

Good Indian food. Menu has a little more individuality than most Indian restaurants, which is nice, but it still has the basics for the unadventurous. Service was a little slow (seemed as though they only had one server at 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday; someone may not have showed up, etc.), but nothing major.

Food is PHENOMENAL! I'd say that this is the best Indian food in Chicago, which I realize is a BOLD statement. I have been coming for years and keep on returning. Get the Chicken Tikka Marsala...amazing! With that said, allow for a little extra time and perhaps a bit of frustration with the service. Often tough to get attention and food comes out a bit slow. Go in knowing and exoecting that and you won't be disappointed with the food. Still worth every star. Enjoy!

The food is your standard Indian fare. The curry tasted like there were many spices in it, the rice was aromatic and soft, and the Naan was fresh if not a little burnt. Come to think of it, some of the curries we got were akttle burnt too. It was definitely not handled with care. Normally that's fine but this place is a tremendous rip off. Each meat curry is around $12-$15 which would seem standard but it was only a small saucer and does NOT include rice or Naan. That's like saying a hamburger meal without the buns. Did they expect people to just eat the curry sauce? The curry also included very few chunks of meat, less than 10, and the egg curry was little 2 eggs split into half in normal curry. Absolutely avoid this place unless you hate your wallet or traveling a little further to literally anywhere else.

I ordered chicken Korma and garlic naan for takeout. They weren't busy but the wait time was long even though I called ahead. There was a slightly artificial cinnamon flavor to the rice and Korma, kinda like Red Hots candy or Big Red gum, but it actually wasn't off-putting? Ordered medium spice which was pretty hot, but quite enjoyable. The chicken was extremely tender and quite flavorful, pushing my review up to the 4-star rating. Naan was a great texture, too; chewy but not too thick and with an even thickness and toastiness throughout. Would definitely repeat.

summary: a fair indian restaurant I wanted it to be better! It has some good things going for it. I had ordered lamb biriyani, murg makani, naan, and coffee. The biriyani was fantastic. Pleasantly spicy, delicious meat, and great yogurt sauce that went with it. The murg makani was okay. The chicken had cooked in it so long that it was pulverized. Normally i like chunks but i suppose thats a personal preference. It was also not as creamy as I would have liked, and white rice was an extra charge. The naan was huge! A great value. Service was fair. Despite being the only table in the restaurant, getting more water took time. Coffee was a little cold. Moderately affordable for two, but an overall fair experience. Decor/atmosphere was great. Quiet, casual, and colorful. This was nice for a quiet dinner for 2.

Every says this is some of the best around, and it was good, but I've had better from several other places around the country that aren't touted as authentic. Maybe that was the problem. Also its a travesty that rice doesn't come with a curry, not even an amount just for a table...want rice, you pay. Staff weren't overly friendly or attentive but good enough. Parking is on the street.
