Heng Fa Market in Philly is a great spot. I picked up some fresh lychee, Kam Yuen snacks, and Buldak noodles. The market has a wide variety of Asian groceries, and the produce is always fresh. It's a must-visit if you're in Chinatown!

I found this place while walking around China town. They have fruit stand in the front and side of the building. The store has 2 floors, and it's pretty tight walking through due to the amount of merchandise they have. There is more fresh produce inside, seafood, and meat that is fresh. There are many varieties of snacks, baked goods, candy, and drinks. Everything is reasonably priced. I left with a full bag of items and spent $20.

Google
Never again. The cashier was extremely rude. When I pointed out that she checked out a bag of candy twice she pretended not to understand and shrugged since her screen showed only one bag. She clearly knew what she was doing because final receipt had two bags. Is it seriously worth to scam people for $3.79? I hope that makes her happy. So stupid…

During my recent visit to Philly I visited this store located in China Town, I was looking for a fish variety which is known to me. I could recognise pomfret, Spanish macrel , surmi( anjal or vanjaram) live crabs , macrel , prawns and sardine. Prawns were almost fresh available in full and half peeled. Regarding surmi and other fish one must know how to pick fresh and good ones from the available lot. The prices of fish were generally less than those available in other corporate stores which are pre packed and frozen. Some of the vegetables which indians are familiar with are also available here. One must note that any purchase below $10 has to be paid by either debit card or in cash. The staff at fish counters deserve appreciation as they oblige to their request regarding slices / cutting the fish. Crabs are live and available in 3-4 sizes and the price varies to match their size. It's a must visit store in China Town.

I usually visit this Store (prefer to say Chinese Sea food and Meat store) to buy a fish. I use to get some good amount of fish for good price, but you should know how to differentiate which is fresh or not. I found some variety of fish are so cheap and good (*if you find the fresh one). Just reduced a star (rating 4 Star) because of freshness of the fish, sometimes it might be old.

Google
This establishment, Heng Fa Supermarket at 130 North 10th Street in Philadelphia, has its advantages and disadvantages based on my personal experience after visiting it. Advantages: - Fruit are so cheap, and the quality looks average - So many things packed in a small place. - conveniently located in China town Disadvantages: - parking could be problematic. Would I recommend this place? Yes Would I come back in the near future? Yes.

Was about to buy a whole box of shrimp. On the freezer, it says $19.99. However, when I’m check out, it came out to be $27.99. So I asked the cashier “why is it $27.99 and not $19.99 like what it was listed on the freezer?” The cashier rudely answered “I’m just working here, there’s nothing I can do. I put in the code and that’s what it came out to be. You might have got it wrong.” Like come on! Instead of helping a customer, you blame them instead? I mean if you, as an employee, can’t do anything then who can? A customer like me? I never heard that an employee can’t do anything while working there. Also, there’s no price tag anywhere that says $27.99 on the freezer for all the shrimp. Maybe the store shouldn’t be scamming their customers like that.

Google
So much variety of produce and Asian snacks I can't really find anywhere else. The first thing you will notice upon entering is the overwhelming fish smell, but I think it adds to the experience. Clerks/cashier's are very polite and helpful and fast and efficient.

Erin B.

Yelp
The boss accusing me a liar if I don't bring back the meat, even if it's rotten to get my refund. The meat smells horrible, very slimy and you can tell from two of the pictures that turned yellow. I had bought from them three times before but never ever again, very poor service.

Yelp
Came here for the longan. Bought 6lbs. Super fresh. Told the gentleman outside how much I needed and he bagged it for me. Went inside to pay. $4/lb when you buy at least 3 pounds

Yelp
They offer a variety of affordable products and have staff all around the market that are able to help you find what you are looking for.

Yelp
My go-to place in Chinatown for produce at affordable prices. They have a variety of fruits in umbrella-covered stands outside the store. Inside you'll find more produce, a refrigerated/freezer section, a butcher stand, and a fish stand. Downstairs are snacks and nonperishable goods. This place is always busy and packed. They have a minimum purchase requirement if you're using any time of card, so bring cash if you're making a purchase of less than $10.

Yelp
This is an extremely busy and crowded market on a Sunday. All during an open but semi-relaxed period during Covid! But I got my vaccine and I'm double masked, let's give it a try. Here we go....This market has everything thing you need starting outside on both sides of the building to deep inside. There are so many things best purchased in China Town such as fruits and vegetables. Because of the parking situation in this area I keep my time limited to 1 hour. So half hour to 'look'', shop and 15-20 in line to pay. Actually the lines move fairly quickly. While shopping for fruit and vegetables things I'm unfamiliar with I make Google my friend! Shopping here is a fast paced, organized chaos, extremely fascinating whirlwind experience. Now it's not clean like a large retail grocer but I can work with it. Im giving dragon fruit a try this week, next week it will be the yellow 'Korean' melon as it was listed. It's really a crazy pace but worth a try since Chinatown has so much to offer. This place is reminiscent of China meets New York City both places a must visit location!

Yelp
Much cheaper than grocers like H-Mart. Being here feels like being in China. Great prices on meat. Great premade sauces/spices imported from China. Authentic flavor. Long lines but they move quickly.

Yelp
Don't forget to go downstairs! This market has a deceptively large selection of both fresh meats and produce on the ground floor but also a huge amount of non-perishable foods in the basement. I'm not a discerning connoisseur of imported Chinese groceries but this place definitely covers a lot of ground and I'm guessing if it's something that Chinese grocery stores carry it will almost certainly be here and for quite a good price. I bought a few snacks and treats to take home in addition to some fruit and it's all stuff I've never had before. The only downside is that this place is compact and crowded which can be unnerving during COVID but almost everyone was wearing masks. Definitely recommend, even if you don't plan to buy anything it's quite interesting just to browse around.

Yelp
Be aware when you buy packaged meat in this market!! They may cover fresh meat on top of bad meat!!! The beef slices looks quite good when I purchased it. When I opened it at home, the frozen slices immediately separates into two layers! On top it is the fresh beef slices; on the bottom where you cannot see from outside is some meat clearly different from the top layer, with dark spots and sticking to each other forming an unnatural rectangular meat block! Looks like those on the bottom have been frozen and unfrozen many times!

Yelp
Heng Fa Market on 10th Street in Chinatown is a relatively small shop specializing as a green grocer, butcher and fish monger. No canned goods here. Everything looked fresh and well maintained. Prices were better than the Asia basement store, and the crowded aisles we're ample proof. There are only handheld baskets as there is no room for shopping carts. That limits how much you can buy in one visit unless you come with a team to help carry your take. There is constant bumping into folks, and the floor around the seafood department is always damp, so some caution is required. But, the jostling is worthwhile to secure the quality goods offered here. Just be sure to secure your wallet because there is more than one type of fishing going on. We picked up meat, veggies and eggs ($3.50 for 3 doz. XLs!), paying much less than in the aforementioned dungeon. The cashier line runs up the vegetable aisle, so you can imagine the low level confusion going on. Still, if you enjoy interacting with humanity the experience was almost enjoyable. Just glad we weren't running for a bus.

Yelp
I went there once and was treated awful. The woman refused to sell me Dungeness crabs live...she refused to acknowledge me and when I talked to the woman she raised her hand and waved me off.....DISGUSTING. Yes, i am black and she looked at me like I was filthy. NEVER EVER DO I RECOMMEND BLACK AMERICANS GOING TO THIS PLACE. When i tried to tell a manager he ignored me also. NEVER going back...

Yelp
Love it here! Super cheap produce and a great selection! I do 90% of my grocery shopping here.

Yelp
I've been to Heng Fa more than 20 times the last 2.5 years I've traveled to Philly and compared to the Chinese markets in Flushing NY and Atlanta, GA, this one is definitely pretty good. It carries all the essentials and then some. IT certainly can't beat the giants in larger cities where land is cheaper, but for a Chinatown grocer, I highly recommend this place for people needing Chinese ingredients. Many of the locals come here and a lot of the Chinese students in nearby schools come here for their groceries- plus it is super close to all the yummy restaurants so you can eat and then shop after! Food options: Pretty good. I think their veggies and produce are reasonably priced considering they are in downtown Philly and fresh produce in general is expensive. You can bet that Napa cabbage is always dirt cheap. I love that they don't shy away from Chinese fruits like rambutans, longans, and persimmons when they are in season. The fish and meat section don't shy away from the organs and parts traditionally found in some traditional dishes as well, so it's super authentic. Plus I guess i fyou're a med school student, getting some pig feet here to practice suturing isn't a bad idea either! Desserts/ Snacks: Go to the basement. They carry all the essential Chinese cookies and crakcers that you must be acquainted with if you're gonna consider yourself a true Asian snack junkie. I recommend the glutinous rice balls to cook at home for a cold evening. You can't go wrong with the koala crackers. I don't like the sponge cakes too much b/c they actually taste like sponge being packaged like granola bars that long... what did you expect? Dry Goods section: Basement. The noodle section here is incredible. You're gonna see every type of noodle there is in ASian culture down here made in almost every possible grain (bean, rice, flour, etc). The dried herbs and teas are prtty good selection too- red dates, green bean, etc are pretty good. Sauces: Pretty much can find every main Asian sauce here that a restaurant has. Let's just see if you can read the Chinese on there :P Though chances are the more Chinese it is, the better it tastes- take a gamble ;) Service/hospitality: Everyone speaks chinese here. Don't expect some friendly staff to show you the works of this place. Hustle and bustle is what it is. Better be prepared to squeeze by people and pay fast at the counter against all the locals who know what's going down.

Yelp
I usually come here for the fruit in Chinatown. Good deals on in season fruit. Can't always pick the specific fruit you want or they guy will yell at you lol. I understand since they don't want touching everything and probably causing more damage. They leave their fruit outside covered by umbrellas so it does get a lot of people to stop to check it out or buy groceries. They offer a variety of vegetables inside along with poultry. Lines can get long especially on the weekends but they have 4+ cashiers working so it moves along. Will continue coming.

Yelp
I love grocery shopping at traditional grocery stores but my all time favorite spots are Chinatown grocery stores for the prices and selection. The meat and produce are super fresh and cheap, which I love, and Heng Fa has so many Asian fruits and vegetables that I can only find in Chinatown. I wish the actual store was bigger because it is always so crowded and people are shoulder to shoulder trying to squeeze by each other. I would encourage everyone to come here during off-peak hours and see how great Heng Fa is.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is always packed to the brim. If you don't mind getting nudged around, it's a good place to get fresh produce at very low prices. They have fruit stands outside the store and a very wide selection including more obscure Asian fruits. The meat selection is a little more dubious, but I haven't had any issues yet. The fish seems pretty fresh, which is usually a point of emphasis for Asian supermarkets. There's a separate section downstairs with snacks and nonperishable goods. It took me awhile to figure that this existed. Overall, a very crowded place to buy cheap, good-quality produce. The meat maybe less so.

Yelp
Very complete grocery store in the heart of Chinatown!! It has two stories, accepts credit too, and has the freshest produce on the top floor with snacks and non-perishables in the basement. Great prices as well. 5/5!
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
You won't find a cleaner, fresher, and more organized market in Chinatown than this one! This supermarket was created from a collaboration of smaller local markets dispersed all throughout Chinatown- great idea! Efficient, greater profit, and best of all... save us locals from the unnecessary walking :) Best place in Chinatown for... - Fresh Produce: Ya know, your daily Chinese greens ie. bok choy, watercress, napa cabbage, etc - Fresh Meat: I love that I don't have to worry about old browning meat anymore, thank God! But you do have to worry about the butchers only speaking Mandarin, either practice your Chinese or get ready to play some charades ;) - Seasonal fruits - Dry/Canned ingredients (ie. soy sauce, noodles, sauces, etc.)

Yelp
Good market to pick some quick groceries or fresh fruits. Located in the heart of Chinatown the parking is tough but if you're anywhere in the area it's easily walking distance. They usually always have fresh fruits out on the sidewalk and quick cashiers get you out quick. Not super clean but neither is any other market in Chinatown.

Yelp
Came here in search of kaffir like leaves... it was an okay experience... no one is polite or out-going friendly. You have to know what you are in search of when you go there.
google avatar

Kavya A.

Yelp
Very fresh produce, almost everything you'd need for basic cooking, but limited southeast Asian ingredients, mostly Chinese and Korean
google avatar

Ellen T.

Yelp
This is a great grocery store stop on the way home. It's one of the few bigger, cleaner, and well stocked stores when compared to the other grocery stores in the city. I also really like how they have fruit outside the store. It always draws me into the store to see what else is on sale. I came here today with my family and we bought six pounds of Logans, clementines, and plums. The workers speak a lot of different dialects in Chinese.

Yelp
Always bad service everytime No english and rush cust to out of the way fast, while i carry alot of item and no space to put the basket away, theydont use their eyes and heart while working I only come here when asia supermarket in the back dont have what i need

Yelp
Hang Fa market is located at 10th and Cherry St. Very good price for Chinese snacks. It's always crowded here. Convenient for folks living in the area. It's where my family does grocery shopping. Staff aren't always friendly but that's not what I'm there for. Just get your stuff, pay, and get out. Lol.
google avatar

Yelp
All around good grocery market in Chinatown. The prices are better than others especially compared to Asian markets in the burbs. Good deal on beef short ribs and veggies.
google avatar

Wesley L.

Yelp
So after try disappointing Asian breakfast stops I was pleased to stumble into this grocery. The layout and decor is a little wanting but this place has a great range of quality Asian produce - think upmarket Japanese snacks and Taiwanese ingredients, spices from Malaysia and Vietnam. We'll be back.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
This is a great Asian shopping place. 1) large number of options 2) fresh produce 3) 2 floors (there is a basement) 4) hustle and bustle keeps it updated with new items However I didn't give it 5 stars because 1)it was very crowded when we went... Yes this was similar to the real China, but that's not authentic thing we're looking for 2) the isles are small and can get congested That being said, we would go again. Good prices. Recommend.

Kurt H.

Yelp
This asian grocery store is amazing! Great prices for essentials like noodles, sauces, spices, produce, etc. Definitely a go-to spot; shopping here will really spice up your cooking game, no doubt about it! Logistically, lines at the register are always disorganized and it's really hard to tell if you are next or not.
google avatar

Dewan A.

Yelp
Amazing! 1) It is two floors, and is the bigger, well stocked, and clean. 2) Came here for the drinks. Got the Vietnamese lychee drink and Thai milk tea. 3) Price is very reasonable.
google avatar

Aria S.

Yelp
This is definitely going to be added to my grocery store rotation (if you read my reviews I lovee my grocery shopping..sometimes) This will mainly be added to buy produce, tofu, and fun sauces, and of course cool Asian things like Pocky and frozen dumplings. I got a box of really good/ripe strawberries for $1!! I can just hear Russel Peter's imitation of saving 50 cents here and 50 cents there and having one dolla and instead of going to the dollar store, I can come here and get strawberries :) Or the 10 varieties of tofu all for $1. I got three grocery bags full of goodies for $23! That's whatsup. See ya soon Heng Fa.
google avatar

Trang K.

Yelp
I LoVe this supermarket, if I live close enough to Chinatown, I'd come here everyday :D this supermarket is well stock with fresh produce and seafood. Prices are reasonable depends on the season. Varieties of tropical fruits that cant be find anywhere else around chinatown also makes me happy :) This place could get crowded and hallway is kinda small so its hard to get through. However, they always have 4-5 cashier so the wait is not bad. I'd rather wait extra few minutes for my fresh veggies and seafood
google avatar

Pei-Ju H.

Yelp
Am I the only one that found this market just average? I gave it a try twice by going in different times during the day. Both times were a really hectic experience for me because it was so packed! The aisles are already very narrow so when you factor in the people, it gets claustrophobic in there. My husband is over 200 lbs and 6'1 and had a very hard time making his way through the market. You can tell the other shoppers are all on a mission too to make it through. Expect to get pushed a lot by a lot of rude people. Yes there are 2 floors, but the downstairs is crammed too with a lot of product yet very narrow aisles.
google avatar

Elise C.

Yelp
Great place for all types of fresh vegetables. Check out the freezers in the basement for cheap, restaurant quality dumplings!
google avatar

Lola H.

Yelp
Great market! Much cleaner and more complete than most of the neighboring Asian markets. Good selection and good prices. We almost missed the whole downstairs which has most of the packaged foods. We will definitely be returning.
