I arrived between 9-9:30am on a Wednesday morning. People left as I arrived, people arrived as I left, so there appeared to be a steady stream of patrons. This also, as far as I know, is prime breakfast hour, right? Why then, were all of my half dozen bagels the consistency of stale, day old bagels? These were not fresh boiled or fresh baked. I was born and raised in NYC, so I know good bagels. After living in the PNW for over a decade, I'll even eat mediocre bagels as long as they aren't stale. I'm sadly not sure I can say these bagels are worth the money. I love that this is a female-owned business (3 stars for that), but her employees at this location were not pleasant, even after I addressed them with a hearty "Good morning!"
Additionally, they got my order wrong, and I didn't catch it until I got home because they didn't offer me a receipt, even though I know the option to text me one when I pay with my credit card on their iPad app pops up automatically. She wouldn't even let me fill in the tip myself (I always tip, but I don't like being put on the spot for one they way they do that here), so I couldn't see my grand total before she asked me to wait outside for my order or press the button requesting a receipt...and I didn't ask because I assumed she would do this given she didn't immediately ask if I wanted one after leaving a tip. That's just basic good customer service etiquette, right? But you know what they say about assuming...
Got home and my half dozen bagels ended up being 8 bagels, but missing one of the kinds I asked for (sesame -- who runs out of sesame bagels?!). They didn't even tell me they were out of sesame or ask what I'd like instead. So now I have two extra stale bagels that I have to throw out -- and I hate throwing out food. Ultimately, this was a learning experience and a waste of money. Looking forward to trying Spielman's next.
