Henry's Soul Cafe

Well worth the drive!! While visiting the Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville, Maryland I was in the mood for some soul food. I googled a few place by looking at the pictures, so Henry’s soul cafe in Washington DC caught my eye, Plus I was going to be in the area. Food looked good but I had to wait till I got back to my room to eat because I didn’t go to the one with a seating area, No problem though lol but I was hungry. All the sides were delicious, i got the rib plate it was good and tender. My wife got the fried pork chop plate and she loved it. So much food we was eating off each other plate.

I’m glad to have a real soul food place located near me. I enjoyed the food overall but wanted just a tad bit more flavor in the greens and mac and cheese. The wings are great though! The prices are really good, so I plan to come back and try other menu items.

Good food, good prices. Was visiting the area and read reviews. Realized this was a place we wanted to try. Worth the visit. The only issue is that we realized later that there are 2 locations, U Street does not offer seating, the other locations does. We had to take our food back to our Air BnB. Wanted the whole dinning experience but the good quality of the food made up for it. So good, we went back for a plate on our way back out of town. Only drawback: no seating area

This place has fantabulous take-out soul food. The portion sizes are most generous and every thing from their meat entrées to their wide array of side dishes that you pair with your entrée are mouth-wateringly delicious 😋. The staff is very nice and this place is run like a well-oiled machine. When they promise your order will be ready in fifteen minutes, it's ready! Everything is packaged to go so well it could almost be shipped in the mail! I recommend this place highly!

Got To-Go, but there is so much food (enough for two people)! I ordered the Fried Chicken Half with macaroni & cheese, corn bread stuffing and mumbo sauce on the side.

It’s a small space so take out only. The staff were kind and the food was delicious. I got BBQ chicken, macaroni and cheese, corn, cornbread and peach cobbler. The chicken, oh it was so tender and just melted off the bone. The macaroni and cheese was the best I’ve personally ever had. The cobbler and cornbread(more grainy texture and sweet) were super tasty as well. I wasn’t interested in the corn but it was cooked well. Overall 10/10 and I wish I lived closer.

Food was great! I didn't love the candied yams but they weren't bad I was just expecting a different taste from them. Ribs, cornbread stuffing and banana pudding was all so delicious. I'll be back

Found this place through a search for soul food. I went with three friends hoping to have a nice, sit-down lunch, but we were disappointed to find this is a takeout shop. The cashier, however, immediately spotted our predicament and had someone from the kitchen take 4 chairs and two tables outside so that we could enjoy a sit-down outdoor meal. We ordered the steak sub, the 8-piece fried chicken box, the BBQ ribs, and the sliced turkey with a side of collard greens and mac and cheese. We also ordered 3 peach cobblers and 1 sweet potato pie. Total bill around $70. The food in general was very good, and the portions were enormous. Only issues were the collard greens and mac and cheese were pretty salty, although my friend liked the salt in the collard greens. The mac and cheese was also a little dry and crumbly, and I like mine dripping with cheese. Peach cobbler was outstanding, as was the sweet potato pie.

Longtime DC native and always wanted to give this place a try. It's a classic hole in the wall with good food. I first walked in and there is a stinch that chose to ignore so I could give the food a shot. Glad I did. The server is a bit short with her responses but she knows her stuff when it comes to the menu and pricing. She's Henry's granddaughter and appears to be running the whole show now that Henry is gone. My wife and I both ordered the Fried Whiting with Mac & Cheese and Greens. I also ordered a side of yams. I received my order and the bag was heavy. I knew this was a good sign. I got to the car and the food was piping hot. The cornbread is A1. Greens are delicious. There is a healthy portion of whiting which I surprisingly couldn't finish. The Mac and cheese was mediocre. Overall the food was really good and I'll definitely return. I ended up calling my mother and aunt and ordered food for them since I knew it was pretty good. Classic hole in the wall with good food. If you're looking for soul food this will definitely scratch the itch.

The food is okay! However a few changes could make this establishment much better. The 3 stars are strictly for some of the food and I'm being nice with this! 1. Customer Service: The employees have unfriendly attitudes. 2. Mac and Cheese: it's just not good! They need a better recipe. Taste like noodles and cheese. 3. Tartar Sauce: Too much mayonnaise. Taste like just Mayo, not good. Add in some of the relish juice and lemon to help this! It needs a hint of freshness it! Place in the refrigerator. 4. Cleaning: Please clean up, wipe down, mop! Dirt on the walls, doors nasty and I can bet they never wash those ice tea machines! This place gets an F for cleanliness!

This food touched my soul. Soooooo good! The mashed potatoes were insane! And the wings were delicious. My friend ordered the half chicken meal with a side of greens and mashed potatoes. I didn't get enough pictures but incredible! I will 100% be back!

Holy moly, this was delicious. I got chills twice in the first 5 minutes of eating this. I am more than happy with my meal

Souuullllllllll GOODDDDDDDDDDD!!! And yes it's worth the wait. We got there around 5:00p on a Friday. There was no line just 1 person ahead of us. Ordered fried okra, fried chicken, with candied yams, cabbage, corn bread for me and my daughter to share. Got my sister fried cat fish plate & a few Sweet potato pie slices. We waited for about 20 minutes and people just started coming in left and right, it got busy real quick. Got home and demolished our plate because it was the best food we had on our trip. So glad we stopped and got to try Henry's! Will be back when we come back to DC.

Came here because I saw it on the travel channel and I was visiting. The place is delicious. Like for really delicious. Love all of it but the sweet potato pie was fantastic. I'll definitely be back

I love this place! From the food to the customer service, both of which have been awesome both times I have gone. I found Henry's on Yelp last month and decided to take my family for takeout. We were here visiting from California. I was here again this month, and all I could think about on the plane was our first day's lunch, and, of course, Henry's was the first choice. This time, we chose chicken and fish. Last time, we had the same but included turkey wings and pork chops. Both times were so good! I love Erin, who took my order, and she even remembered me from my prior visit! She has been nothing but kind and patient with me adding to my order. I also want to shout out Renata, who was our server. Whenever I come to DC, Henry's will also be in our food rotation! They also give college students a discount. What a great way to honor the community. Thank you again, Erin, for making me feel like a loved and valued part of Henry's!

This was an absolutely incredible meal! I ordered the half chicken fried with mac and cheese, potato salad, and cornbread. The chicken was really tasty, and the sides were even better, particularly the potato salad. It was also a TON of food for $14 - I made three meals out of this! You order at the counter and there's no seating inside. The service is fine and I got my food very quickly. There were a lot of other things on the menu I wanted to try, especially the sweet potato pie, so I'll be back!

Google maps highlighted this restaurant nearby my hotel. Of course I want some delicious soul food while in Chocolate City aka DC. Meals were totally worth the walk. The whiting was fried perfectly. The meatloaf was moist and tasty. The sides were delicious!! Best part were the portions!! Plenty food for at least 2 meals for me. It's a walk up corner service restaurant so no seating at this location. Staff were kind and friendly. They apologized for the wait but honestly the meals (3) took less than 10 minutes from ordering to being received. Best soul food I've had outside of the south. Def recommend!

We decided to try Henry's on a Sunday. It was your typical DC parking situation. We found street parking pretty close (around the corner) and just walked around the corner to the restaurant. When we arrived we were greeted by the person working in the front. I must note there was an awful smell as we entered. Not sure what it was but it was not pleasant. We decided to ignore the smell (hard as it was) because we had been wanting to try this place. The menu was posted and we took a minute or two to decide on what to order while there was another person being assisted with a order pick up. The lady picking up her order stated she asked for a different drink. The lady helping her said, "I asked you what you wanted and you said _____." From a customer service standpoint it wasn't a great exchange. The lady ended up leaving with the drink she received versus the one she wanted. To be fair I was not there to hear the previous exchange about the drink but as a business owner or restaurant employee I would have just replaced the drink and not argued with the customer. Nonetheless, once the lady left it was our turn to order. We stood at the counter to the left until the person I was with asked the lady if we should go to the other side to order. She said yes. So instead of just telling us where to order we would have stood there had we not asked. Once we got to the right side we were able to order and before we started she let us know of any items they were currently out of which I appreciated. We ordered the pork chops (with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans) and the fried fish (with mac and cheese and greens). I also ordered the peach cobbler. The order was ready pretty quickly and everything was accurate. The food looked good so we took the order to go. The pork chops, greens, and green beans were delicious. All seasoned very well. Everything else was awful. The fish was over cooked and lacked seasoning, the mashed potatoes were so flavorless that I put them in the trash immediately (along with the gravy), the Mac and cheese was just okay and the peach cobbler was also just okay. The biggest disappointment was the corn bread. It was not sweet and had no flavor. I was so disappointed in the food.

Ordered to go from the U street location and the customer service was lacking. My order was not ready when promised and made me late for an event. However, the food was good. Really enjoyed the fried okra and cabbage (cooked with Turkey but no pieces in our order). Wasn't fond of the Mac n cheese- noodles were to soft and just not how I like it. Others enjoyed it though. Sweet potatoes pie is SUPER sweet and you definitely can't eat more than one slice a day. Also, their cornbread was good too. Overall I'd give them another try but wouldn't trust whatever time they say your order would be ready.

So I am only giving this place one star (for now) I was looking for a soul food place to go to, an since I wasn't in B'more I could go to angies soul food. They did not have more half of their menu; the lady did suggest trying their other store in MD, but it was over 40 miles away, since I was in DC in the middle of the afternoon. I can't say the food was bad, because I didn't try anything, but I will stop by another day and give them another try. but my first trip was a definite fail.

That fried pork chop dinner was absolutely delicious will continue to patronize this establishment as this is truly soooull food!!!!

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where Henry's Soul Cafe was the caterer. I am a white Jew from L.A., and with that comes, shall we say, "standardized' expectations of what food is "appropriate" for a wedding. Prior to the wedding, I recall thinking, 'oh gosh, soul food is so messy. That isn't appropriate for a wedding.' I WAS WRONG!!!!! Henry's Soul Cafe has changed my opinion on so many things, and for the better! The ribs were tasty but not overly sauced (my major concern). The fried chicken was cooked perfectly - any Southern grandma would've approved it. The corn bread? Well, I'm very sorry I didn't take 2 pieces. I wish I lived in the area, so I could eat at the restaurant regularly. For those who are in DC, don't miss out! Try this place! They're great!

Finally stopped in, not sure what took so long. Amazing fried chicken, crispy and flavorful, not dry. I ordered the half chicken with Mac and cheese (perfect), and collard greens (a touch bitter for me, but better with some mumbo or hot sauce), and corn bread (tasty). Super filling for $18 with a slice of sweet potato pie, which was good but on the sweet side.

(4 stars for their incredible sweet potato pie. 1 star for everything else) I was looking forward to supporting this place. Sadly, the only good thing here is their claim to fame; the sweet potato pie. It is incredible I must say. I didn't care for the food here at all. I ordered the fried trout dinner with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The trout was a bit on the salty side and over fried. The collard greens weren't anything to rave about and they were too "stemmy." I hate collard greens with a bunch of stems. The macaroni and cheese lacked soul and reminded me of kraft mac and cheese with seasoning added. It didn't have that baked consistency that I'm used to. It was more like creamy mac and cheese. If I didn't care for any of the three food items that I ordered then I have no faith that I'd really enjoy anything else on the menu. If I'm ever in the area I'll get a slice of sweet potato pie and keep it moving. The young lady, Erin, behind the counter was nice. Thank God she was behind the register taking the orders because her coworker Renata was so rude and unpleasant. I had a question about the items that came with my order and she came out of nowhere with her face screwed up and had an attitude. Maybe she's a relative of Henry, the owner. Otherwise, she should be unemployed.

They have good Mac & cheese and fried catfish . The service is good. If I ask for a cat with Mac & mash she only has to ask if I want mambo.

My food was good and hot. They need to work on customer service though. Wasn't impressed with the level of customer service. Too much attitude. The sweet potato pie is decent.

Chicken, fish, sides are all great! Servers are alo friendly, so service is great. This is a great takeout place for soul food. I love the ambiance here.

Hey, so here's the deal. I jumped on Yelp to get some ideas for some good affordable grub in the area. I'm here visiting from Chicago, IL. This place has great reviews and a nice star rating. Our family ordered a variety of food. Our Proteins consisted of Catfish, Barbeque Pork Ribs, and Fried Chicken. Sides were Greens, Cabbage, Mac & Cheese, Yams, Cole Slaw, Cajun Wedge Fries, and Cornbread. Our drinks were homemade lemonade & strawberry lemonade. Desserts were sweet potato pie and banana pudding. We all agree collectively that the food was alright. 3*'s is a the best they will get from our group. The ribs were ok, they were tender but it seemed like the were cooked in the oven. The catfish and chicken was tasty. It was seasoned and fried well. The collard greens and cabbage were seasoned and just ok. The Mac & cheese was a little salty and it seemed like they used a liquid cheese sauce. It most definitely didn't have the extra melted cheese on top. Most of us ate a little and tossed out the rest. Now those yams taste like they were from the can. They hooked them up tho. The Coleslaw, Cajun fries, and cornbread were ok, nothing to scream about. We all agree that the lemonade didn't have enough lemon in it. It wasn't tasty at all. We could have purchased a big ole can of Country Time lemonade from Sam's Club and enjoyed every drop. Let's talk about the famous Sweet Potato pie. It was not the best. Really, spicy with plenty of nutmeg. It wasn't dense and it was lacking the sweet buttery taste that we are used to. However, it may be someone else favorite. Whelp, we all agree that it's a first time for everything. This was our first and last.

I went on. The website today and it says the wee Closing at nine:00 pm. However, I arrived at the location at 1:30 pm only to find out that They weee closed today. This is pops communication and poor customer service. If you know that your store is coo f to be closed on a holiday it only takes 5 minutes to update your website. This is bad business. I don't support this type of business.

All of those good reviews must be from family and friends that was the worst food I ever had in my entire life potato salad potatoes over boiled Mac and cheese was spoiled and smell sour like it was prepare from a couple of days ago cabbage no taste ribs tough and burnt I ask for pig feet and ask was they cook in vinegar you guessed they lie sweet potatoes below average a waste of money and time stay away please . The Oxon Hill location never go there save money and time I would've gave zero star but it force me to give a star now going over there reviews they're padded reviews because if you look closely you'll see many of the reviews are from people with the same picture but different names just stay away this food is really awful believe all the bad reviews the good reviews are fake

I been a fan of Henry's Soul Cafe over the years and I love their famous sweet potato pie however, tonight ,Im very disappointed with my meal. Ive eating from here on numerous occasions and was always satisfied with the food but today (Sunday 9/10/23) I got the worst meal I've ever had! I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. All of it tasted horrible! The food tasted as though it had been sitting too long and had been warmed over too much. Please do better!!!! I would've rather you told me that it wasn't available than for you to serve me old food!!!

Stuffing not good. Turkey wings were good. Greens had stalks in them which took away the flavor. Gravy on turkey wings good. My pie of pie fair. Someone sent me a slice with a broken piece of pastry.

Everything was amazing about this place the food was great. The service was great, I love the DC attitude and hospitality. She knew her regulars it was great.

I'm glad it's carry out only because I licked my little to go plate it was so good! My goodness! Please do not pass up on this gem! We ordered the smothered baked turkey wings. The meat was fell off the bone immediately and the smothered fried pork chops. I don't even like pork chops and I sucked the meat off the bone on these. It was so tender, seasoned well, and made with so much love. The side were greens, Mac and cheese, and candied yams. I could cry just remembering how rich and delicious each bite was. And last bit most certainly not least are the desserts. Tried both the famous sweet potato pie and banana pudding. My tastebuds will be yearning for it for years to come. I see why the pie is famous. It's perfect! Best, Yelp suggested place I've received yet!

My husband and I were visiting from RI and I found Henry's on my yelp app. We love mom and pop places, and this was so worth the visit. The food was absolutely amazing, the plates were loaded with food. We had so much food we couldn't eat it all, we had save it for the next day LOL Everything was delicious, next time we're in the area we will certainly be back. This was the best meal we had our entire visit here in DC

Customer service sucks unfortunately. The crab cakes are terrible. Way too fishy and not seasoned. The dressing with gravy was really good along with the sweet potatoes.

A hidden gem! I've been here a few times now and every single time the food has been amazing. I will have to remember to take a picture next time because the food has been so good that I didn't take the time to take pics lol! Prices are reasonable and portions are generous so you definitely get your money's worth. If you want a good, home cooked stick to your ribs type meal like Mom/Grandma/Auntie makes, then come to Henry's!!

Delicious and plentiful meals. If you're coming here for something light or healthy, stay your a** at home! Like the sign inside says, everything is worth the wait! Smothered pork chops, fried whiting, and green beans are some of favs. You can't go wrong with any of the deserts.

I would swear this was a laundromat or check cashing place from the outside. It has only counter seating by the front window and we ate in. It was good. I get beef ribs every chance I get since they aren't common where I'm from. Theirs were tender, slow cooked, and slathered in sweet barbecue sauce with sliced bread on the side. Good flavor, though I don't think these ribs were smoked as someone else said, given the color, flavor, and texture of the outside. They were satisfying either way! Sides: Greens were flavorful and not mushy. They actually felt healthy! The cornbread stuffing with gravy was well seasoned though sweeter than I'm used to. They clearly use their own baked cornbread. Dessert: Mmm. Banana pudding. You expect Nilla Wafers, but this was almost like bits of cake. I was into it. Portions at this place are insane. Come hungry.

BBQ ribs have pleasant smoke flavor, potato salad is right in there, and mac 'n cheese is old-school good. The sweet potato pie is widely known--it's smooth and layered with flavor. There's a huge photo of Henry holding his famous sweet potato pie on one of the shop's walls. What a thoughtful homage to him. Staff is friendly. There's very limited seating; always get mine to go. Without fail, there's a cop waiting in line to order food--a reliable testimonial. He's no longer with us, but Henry's down-home cooking lives on here.

Vacationing from Philly and wanted to try some good soul food read the reviews on Yelp and from the reviews seemed like a great place to try. Ordered the rib platter with Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes with a side of greens and sweet potato pie for desert, after we paid we was informed they didn't have any sweet potatoes, disappointed but ok. Not an eat place so took back to hotel smelled good but flavor was not there at all. Greens and cabbage had no flavor, mac and cheese was subpar,ribs where drenched in bbq sauce figured out why they were burnt, hard and not edible. Sweet potato pie tasted like a nutmeg pie just a little to much of the spice. Not a great meal from the famous Henry's Soul cafe.

Amazing!!!!!!! I came here yesterday after the zoo and ordered lunch with my boyfriend. We haven't found many good Soul Food restaurants in VA, so this was pretty exciting to find. My boyfriend ordered Fried trout with mashed potatoes and collard greens. I'm not much of a fish Easter, but this was very delicious. Lightly crispy and seasoned to perfection. The sides were amazing. I ordered the half chicken friend with macaroni and green beans. I took one bite and instantly told my boyfriend i wanted to order another dish for dinner. We ordered the 2 pork chops with yams and cabbage, and a slice of sweet potato pie. This place is amazing and I was so happy to find such a little gem. Everything is amazing and delicious even that strawberry lemonade. There was an issue with a customer getting their food before another customer that came in first BUT the woman behind the counter handled the situation very well while the customer was super upset. There isn't much seating, but don let that get you down. Hop in your car and eat It all up. Well worth it. I will hope to be back soon enough. Thank you!!

I had a craving for some good fried chicken. I spent 1.5 hours researching various places around my location in DC. I kept going back-and-forth between recommendations and even went to some other websites to find a good place. Henry's had good reviews and was within a half an hour walk from my location so I decided to give it a try. It's sort of out-of-the-way, definitely not in a touristy area. It's a super small shop with a very small waiting area with a few counter stools. Staff is friendly and efficient. The menu was simple and included some seafood and ribs as well as fried chicken. Their menu also included desserts including peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and more. After I ordered my chicken I noticed a lot of folks coming in ordering the whiting fish. That must be super popular. It looked to be like mostly locals ordering so I felt like I'd made a good choice. I ordered six chicken wings and peach cobbler. It came with cornbread. Everything was delicious. The chicken was not greasy at all. They offer you hot sauce and a special sauce that's a bit sweet and spicy. I used both. I ate every bit. One my favorite parts of the meal was the cobbler. It had a delicious ginger flavor and lots of dough. It was probably the best I've ever had, including my own cobbler which is really good. I've already told all my DC friends about this place so hopefully they will get to enjoy this local treasure as much as I did.

Don't assume their open because google said so. They open shop as they please. It's almost like they dgaf if they make money. The chicken is good, but i don't like the sides. The Mac and cheese tasted funny... i only recommend the chicken and Mumbo, it's dank and will make u sick but i mean ur eating fried chicken wtf did u expect?

Love there liver and onion dinner, I would order it again. I didn't like the peach cobbler all peaches and syrup.

I was craving soul food and Henry's was the first to pop up so I tried it. I gave them a call and placed my order in advance in case they were busy. As soon as I arrived, I realized how difficult it is to park in this area and would recommend you to come with an extra person or park across the street w/ your emergency signals on. For the exterior, it looked like Henry's had a lot of history as the decor was slightly on the vintage side. Once I walked in, I was greeted by one of the employees whom I thought was pretty nice for the most part. I provided her my name and took my order home. My order consisted of half fried chicken, collard greens, potato salad, and macaroni + cheese. The chicken has a good crisp to it and still managed to be juicy at the same time. The collard greens was delicious and seasoned well. The potato salad seemed like it was over cooked and drowned in Mayo so I didn't enjoy it much. The macaroni and cheese wasn't that great either as it was mushy, loaded with black pepper, and lacked in the cheesiness like most Mac. With every order, they provide a complimentary cornbread which was a bit too dry so I didn't finish it. I should also mention that they're mostly takeout but they do have a few bar seatings inside and two table outside of you choose to dine there.

This spot is taking COVID precautions seriously. Only three patrons are allowed at a time and they will enforce that policy. I learned that when I couldn't place an online order or get through on the telephone. Instead, I walked over and placed three orders of fried chicken and an order of turkey. We had a mix of sides: mashed potatoes, candied yams, soul fries, cornbread stuffing, and mac and cheese. Everything was deliciously home made and hot, which I really appreciate, even on a scorching day like last Friday. The fried chicken had a wonderfully crispy but not top of the mouth scratchy texture. It's juicy and steaming on the inside. We also ordered two servings of banana cream pudding - very good and fulfilling. In fact, next time, we really don't need that much but it's great because we had leftovers for days. Portions are generous for the price and the service is great too. It's evident by the number of people placing orders and milling about waiting outside for them to be ready.

Delicious, I think my mouth started watering just thinking about the meal I got a few months back. For starters, the portions are huge for a $12 plate (you got breakfast and lunch in 1 plate), so we're off to a great start. I came in during a random time of day somewhere between 4-4:30pm and only 1 other person came in so this might be the time to come in. The fried chicken pieces are big and tasty, the potato salad got the right amount of acidic and salty, and man, that mac n cheese could be a meal on it's own! I wish I had also bought a sweet potato pie since I am sure it would have been damn good, (and the shop says they have the best sweet potato pie so why wouldn't you want to try it), but next time I am town I will definitely get a pie for sure! They take credit card, and there are about 5ish stools at the counter, so might be better off to order and take out.

I had the fried half chicken which came with a breast, thigh, wing, and drumstick. The chicken was fried perfectly; very crispy but so juicy on the inside. The meal came with two sides. I did the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. This is it! Fantastic food made to order. Friendly staff. No where to really sit except at the window. Food was in a styrofoam tray. I came for the dried chicken and was not disappointed. This is amazing soul food and I am happy I did.

I had the fried 1/2 (half) chicken which came with a breast, thigh, wing and drumstick (not pictured). The chicken was fried perfectly; very crispy but so juicy on the inside. The meal came with two sides; I chose collards and sweet potatoes. The collards were a 4 out of 5. Could have been better but I'd get the again for sure. The sweet potatoes were 5 out of 5. The plate also came with cornbread which was very moist. I tasted the mac n cheese which was amazing and seasoned well. I also tasted the ribs; the sauce was amazing! The banana pudding was great; it had the wafers, pudding and small bits of real banana (not brown). Parking is horrible but that's expected on U Street. You have to wait outside in the front of the shop while your order is being prepared. I've found a new favorite for sure.

Stopped by for a quick take out. Only 2 people allowed in at a time and card is the only payment. Parking is horrible around here but the food had amazing flavors. I had the smothered pork chops and my BF had the meatloaf dinners - the servings size are generous (comes with two sides of your choice and a cornbread). Everything is made to order so took about 15 mins to receive my plates and was still hot when I got home which is 20 mins away. We ended the meal with a slice of sweet potato pie - delish!

The fried fish is very good! (but make sure you get fried if you want fried). I left without checking one day only to get home and find what looked LIKE BAKED fish! But even that had good flavor!

Amazing!!! Great portions!!! My new spot every time I stop back through the area. Cornbread most and delicious. Customer service keeps it a buck/100%. Collards on point, mac on point and whiting was hot, crispy & moist all at the same time. Love this place!!! My new aunts uncles & cousins... see y'all again soon

Henry!!! I was told he has gone on to be with The Lord, but his LEGACY lives on! When I tell you I am so happy I ate here for lunch!! the portion sizes are great, the flavor is great, and their hospitality was southern! The only negatives I have are, the restaurant signage deserves to be more prevalent, I almost drove past it if it wasn't for the illegally parked cars waiting outside lol. Also, I accidentally got no gravy on my turkey wings... I will be returning for the gravy! If you have not been to dine here, GO. Well done Henry's.

This place brought me back to my childhood!!! Irene was great!!! Attitude was just so entertaining!! It's a little hike in the wall but you would think with the food it was a 4 star restaurant!!

Fantastic! I would give this place 10/5 stars if I can! I found it on Yelp so I could get some great soul food to celebrate Juneteenth and black people in June. I ordered the fried chicken, Mac and cheese and yams. The meal came with a biscuit as well that was so warm and soft. When I say it hit the spot, that's an understatement. The chicken was so crispy and flaky, the Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious, and the yams were so great as well. I had enough chicken leftover for a second meal the next day. I also got the sweet potato pie that was so warm and reheated well during the next few days. I will definitely want to come back here and make them my new soul food plug until the end of time!

I hate giving bad reviews - but, I have to try to save some people some time and money. This place does not have good food. I'm extremely surprised by all the great ratings. I only gave it 2 stars because my wife liked the liver and I enjoyed the potato salad - we got a lot of food and those were the only things that were good.
