"The Hero Doughnuts and Buns name is a big tip-off of what they do best. It's on our doughnut list, so we get why this place is always buzzing with families on weekends or remote workers staging their video calls in front of the venue’s loud red walls. A variety of donuts like the apple crisp with a fruit and cinnamon mash on top (no poser synthetic filling from a jar) make this a perfect morning pit stop. "The menu at Birmingham, Alabama-based Hero Doughnuts in Summerhill features over a dozen doughnut flavors, including a variety of cream-filled and cake doughnuts with toppings such as Fruity Pebbles or vanilla, chocolate, or pistachio glaze. Jam-filled doughnuts tend to change with the seasons. Hero also sells doughnut holes dipped in vanilla glaze, apple fritters, and cinnamon rolls. Most doughnuts are made using a brioche dough, which is also used to create the buns for Hero’s bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, kolaches, hamburgers, fried bologna sandwich, and Buffalo chicken “super crunch” sandwich." - Lia Picard
