Heros & Villians Review - Lower East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"Essex Market is full of tremendous sandwiches, but if you’re looking for a fried chicken or an excellent smash burger, check out Heroes & Villains. Both the “Sando Calrissian” (fried chicken with miso-aioli, cabbage, and pickles) and “The Kahuna” (crispy ground beef, pickles, cheese sauce, spicy ketchup, all served on a hot dog bun) are sandwiches that you can get for under $10. Plus, “The Kahuna” is kind of like eating a burger as a hot dog, or the opposite of the Rocket Power classic, “The Hotdurger.”" - Carlo Mantuano

I was recommended this store a few years ago by a friend. Because of their selection of model kits. Everything in their store is well organized. They always have a great selection from comics to records, from models to trading cards. Not to mention they have some of the best pricing compared to other stores in the area. The staff is always helpful both online and in store. Always giving great customer service. I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to continue an old hobby or pick up a new one.

Google
H&V rips bro! I literally am so thankful to the cool people in here. Y'all got super good vibes and super special wares. I showed the Gundam section to my friends in Detroit and they were jealous. Y'all really have one of the coolest places in the city. Hope you continue to proper 🙏🏼

Andrew Sunada

Google
This place was pretty badass. Not really any back issues but a lot of the cool, newer stuff. Some higher value variants, and there's a record and vintage gaming area too. Definitely recommend this as a stop if you don't come to the area often. Love the vibe.

Dessert Raccoon

Google
They have this ridiculous rule where you’re required to leave your bag on the floor at the front desk entrance. They don’t even store it in a safe place. If you're going to enforce a no-backpack policy, at least provide lockers or a secure spot for people to leave their belongings — not just the floor. People carry valuable cards in their bags, and they know that. Yet they expect customers to walk around with binders and decks piled in their arms? Another issue was the guy in charge of the TCG area in the back — moody and gave condescending "answers." For a store that wants to be seen as cool or community-friendly, they’re doing a terrible job.

Google
Heroes is hands down one of my all time favorite places to go. With all 3 store fronts side by side hosting an array of comics, records, tabletop game's, cards, model kits, toys/stuffies & more, there really is something for everyone. It’s one of my kiddos favorite places to go, and I personally find myself there at least a couple times a week at this point😅 there’s such a wide variety of options for tabletop miniature making, everytime I’m in need of a paint, or tool immediately, or just craving a new project heroes always has my fix!

Google
Our one stop shop for anything we need tabletop, video game , and record wise. Maybe not as big, but just a much better selection overall compared to bookmans. They also got great posters, lots of graphic novels, loungeflys, and plushies. Plus staff is always cool.

Google
I come here nearly every week and plan to continue to do so until I am physically unable to. Wonderful little store with super kind employees, and a very clean and tidy interior. Amazing selection of stock, always pleasantly surprised by how much unique and hard to find goods they have here. I mainly go for Pokemon Cards and Nintendo products, but find myself enamored by things I didn't even know existed. It has everything from comics to vinyls to trading cards to plushies to blind boxes, it really never ends. Highly recommend this place, even if you're don't think you'll find something you like. Because you will.

Google
This was my first visit - during record store day 2025. I really like the store! It seems like they have a great selection of everything (music, movies) on a few formats, and I'd be happy to come back at another time and browse through the rest of the store. I was really happy to get the record store day I waited in line for :-) Thank you!

Yelp
My first time back here in several years and again very similar findings to my original review. The staff were very friendly and the store is super clean and organized. The issue I have here is the same as before: there are almost no back issues to look at. Also, very few wall books or grails. I did see an absolutely beautiful copy of Incredible Hulk 181 which was a sight to behold. The price was right for a copy in this great of shape. If had the funds, I'd totally get it. A great store for new issues, but useless if you're looking to fill in your collection of back issues.

Yelp
Great service and amazing selection, for Music, gaming, or collectibles. Racking uo Points for future saving gets easier and easier, Since there is soooo much fun stuff!!!

Yelp
My friend and I were having a boring night and this place was the cure!!! I spun him around blind folded there times and he picked the comic book: Avengers: The Crossing. This book kept us on our feet all night. If ur looking for a place to get quality books. Look no further.

Christopher H.

Yelp
We love this place! Their overall selection is excellent. My wife, who usually rolls her eyes at my daughter's and my geekiness, regularly walks around the store and finds things that she actually wants! My one wish is that they expand their inventory of back issues.

Yelp
Pretty good, pretty good the workers were pretty nice and relatable. I'd have to recommend coming here they have quite the variety of stuff that I suggest going here sometimes. They also have used stuff which was worth 14 dollars. But I have to recommend at the end of the day giving this place a try and I will have to come back and see Sincerely- the man in the yellow hat

Colin H.

Yelp
Great shop, they had everything I was looking for. Knowledgeable staff great selection of games, t-shirts, and action figures too.

Yelp
The excitement that I had looking this place up online along with the 45 minute trip, just to see it in person was completely shattered by the lack of kindness and customer service from the employees on both sides of the shop. I entered with anticipation of happily buying, amazing comics and games that I have been waiting to buy, but after the multiple dirty looks from six different employees, and the sheer hatred that you could tell from their eyes for me, I decided it was best to spend my money elsewhere. To the progressives who work here just remember when you run a business the main color that matters is green. I am and feel sorry for you guys.

Yelp
Having lived in Tucson for five years now, I've driven past this establishment and heard it is the spot for comics, games, and collectibles. Today I decided to stop in and see what they had to offer, and despite the world that is descending into chaos around us. This shop offers a great distraction into the realm of fantasy and fun. Whether you're into science fiction, a video game enthusiast, or into historical re-creation through modeling or an RPG gamer! This place is the spot. I love collectibles, video games, and anything involving Star Wars. So I found the store to be excellent. If you were a fan of any of these things, I strongly recommend you check this place out. It is legit cool.

Yelp
Weird to say I'm proud of a local game store, but they've grown so much over the years! Good vibes in this store. Their rewards program is also nice.

Yelp
This store is a gold mine for Christmas shopping. There is something for just about everybody, and the prices were pretty reasonable. The staff were welcoming and I am looking forward to going back when I have more time so I can check out the other sides of the store!

Gage F.

Yelp
When ever I show up I'm greated by name and always with joy and respect. They always have what im looking for wich is a problem for the wallet, but not a bad problem. Keep up the good work-Gage

Yelp
I love this place for the record store that is inside. The staff is always willing to have a conversation about records and which ones they like. They always have very nice records and it is a very clean store

Yelp
Still rollin around in Tucson, glad that shops are opening back up. Heros & Villains did it right, clear signs on procedures, mask required & hand-sanitizer station at door, masks available if you did not bring your own. I walked in the gaming side first, greeted right away & chatted about gaming. I was an original D&D back in the day, but been out the loop since the late 80's. I was very impressed with the space, plenty of tables that looked like it might be worth exploring my fantasy side again. Plus, just found out my oldest son & wife started playing. I did not realise store was broken down into 3 sections with different entrances. Staff member ( young man) walked me down to the comics entrance (very helpful). There I met Malcolm (hope I spelled right), super friendly & informative. Store specializes in new Comics, had a few older wall stuff and also some packaged complete/partial runs at reasonable prices. I did pick up a nice copy (Flossy) is how Malcolm put it of Wolverine #66 signed by Artist so very happy. Young lady at check-out was also very nice, informed me of Loyalty Program & signed me up (Thank You). I went next door to check out 3rd section which was a Vinyl Shop (old to new Records), very cool. Some original stuff to new prints - nice selection. There I met "Mike", who turned out to owner. He gave me some of the history of the Shop(s) which was awesome. He also provided some good information about the area. He mentioned two other shops to check out which was really cool. Recommended I check them out if looking for more older stuff. Very cool of him, I have been missing the banter that I enjoy visiting comic shops. It was nice to talk comics, gaming & music. Great concept & set-up. Everybody I interacted with in all (3) shops were engaging & helpful. Definitely enjoyed my visit & will be back- I am now a Loyalty Member.

Yelp
To start this review off, my first impression of this store is good. Walking through the store was a breeze, the place is clean and well organized. Every hero or villains had their section and the volumes was in numerical order. They have some collector items staged in the front of the store with tons of posters of different comics all over the store. I'm not much of a comic book guy but I decided to come in one weekend with friend since he wanted to get some more comics. So since I've started to watch DC Comics shows on Netflix, I have found that I like The Flash. What did I do? I picked up a couple volumes of The Flash so I can unleash my inner geek. I'm definitely no comic price expert but the price didn't seem expensive to me. Now get this, they don't have a punch card as a reward program. But there an app that you can install on your phone called "Flok". There is 10 digital spots that you can 'stamp'. And if I remembered correctly is that for every comic you purchase, you stamp out a number. Once you complete all ten stamps, you get a $10 in-store credit. Nice right?! Also to add onto this app, they will have notifications when there are sales going on so it will keep you updated. Plus like how some stores/restaurants does it on yelp, if you check in you can get a free reward/discount/etc. Last time when I checked in on the app, I received a FREE Batman All Star comic. Sweet! Now to toss some frosting on this cake, from the friendly customer support, to the sweet selection of comics. After I finish these few comics I have, you darn bet I'll be coming back to Heroes and Villains to get my punch card filled!

Yelp
Your friendly neighborhood comic shop! Best staff! Super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Came into the store and it's neat and all; however, I came to the store for one thing, Digimon Cards. It's sad to see that a box of Digimon cards that MSRP for roughly 90$ pre-tax is being sold here for $230. I understand that supply and demand is in effect but the core values of this storefront completely blew me away. Rather than building a customer base and community, Heroes and Villains entertains only its selfish needs for revenue. The only reason this place gets a two star is that the customer service of the representatives were quite friendly. I hate to write a two star review when the staff is friendly, but the management and leadership of this store is quite broken.

Yelp
My Fiancé and I love coming here for our Warhammer addiction. We go there often and we are constantly challenged with suppressing the urge to buy all of the amazing models this place has. The staff is always very cool and very fun to talk to. Ethan is a homie and always engages us in our weird conversation, and remembers us every-time we come in. I recommend it wholeheartedly, as it is the best store in Tucson for Warhammer and we would go out of our way to continue supporting them.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Great selection of new comics! The staff is super friendly! Great comic shop!

Yelp
Love this spot. Great place for conversation, debates, and recommendations. The staff is incredibly patient, attentive, and engaging. It's always the highlight of the month going to pick up my pre-ordered comics. Looking forward to going back in a few days!

Yelp
If you're looking for new, mainstream comics (like most people) then this is the place to go. They've got plenty of copies of new titles and a solid selection of trades. It would be cool if they had more variant covers, but that is my only pseudo-compliant. I've heard some people complain about the staff, and that's dumb. They are incredibly nice and knowledgable. Every time I'm there, they provide great reading suggestions. On top of all of that, they've got a really cool app that you can use to earn free comics. I'm super into this place!

Jared B.

Yelp
No back issues but their pull list services are first rate and their team is helpful, smart, and welcoming. Honestly, the only reason I wouldn't consider it 5 stars is they don't stock more than the last 3 or 4 issues of a title. I can't imagine you'll have a bad experience there.
google avatar

Angelica J.

Yelp
Very helpful staff and great place to find HeroClix!! Great prices common large selection of comic books, and large selection of comic book merchandise. Your first purchase you even get a free map! (and you might even get an opportunity to "meet" Thor, Iron Man, and Spiderman!)

Yelp
This place has a lot of friendly staff here. They're also pretty diverse in gaming. If the person you're talking to doesn't know something, there is someone here who does. They host a lot of events and it's great for the miniature and card game hobbiest. My biggest complaint is the back area seems a little bit unorganized. They have plenty of tables but also felt, the first few times, that there was some sort of flow or places where games should be set up over others. The prices are pretty normal. Which also means, if you're looking to get into these types of games, it's going to cost you a lot. I was hoping they would have some sort of price break or discount, even with some sort of member

Briant L.

Yelp
Unlike another card shop in town, they are not price gouging on Pokemon cards to the point scalpers are cheaper. Their prices are very respectable given the current situation of Pokemon cards. Will be purchasing more tabletop games here. Comics are awesome and the vinyls available are top notch.

Margaret S.

Yelp
Entering this store is like being transported into a serene comic book heaven. The environment is clean, the employees are friendly and knowledgeable, plus their selection is unbeatable. They have a great rewards program too. I wouldn't be surprised if the next time I walked in a choir of angels would appear and start singing the "Cheers" theme song in cosplay outfits. Absolutely divine store A+++

Yelp
With out a doubt the Best Game store in Tucson and one of the best I've been to all around Arizona! All the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about the games and comics they sell. There is a great gaming area for all gamers and the store is always clean. The comic book side is next to the game side and both are great. I personally play 40k and they have hands down the best selection out of Every game store I've been to throughout AZ. They always keep their inventory full and will order anything you need. The cater to the casual gamer and are family friendly. On a rare occasion my son and I showed up for the Pokémon night and no other kids were there but Javid was always willing to sit and play with him. 5 stars in every category they can be rated.
google avatar

Yelp
I've only been here once but their selection is amazing! The staff is well-informed and very courteous as well

Yelp
While this isn't the shop if you're looking for that one missing back issue, they've got everything else covered. I'm not a regular comic purchaser, but when I drop in ever once in a while, the guys remember me and always have something worthwhile to talk about. They have an impressive shelf of used graphic novels and trade paperback collections. What makes it so good is their in-store promotion: hero bucks. For every $10 you spend you'll get a hero buck that can be used to purchase up to half of anything on the used wall or the first collection of a multi-set (four or more) or TPB or graphic novels (these will usually be labeled with a "Hero Item" book mark). They can also be used on anything on the special "Hero Item" wall on the right as you enter. This alone would make for a great store promotion, but the best thing about hero bucks is that once a year (Black Friday - day after Thanksgiving) they open early and for that morning everything in the store is a "Hero Item". I've only been once, but it was awesome. I think they pull some special products for that morning as well. Heroes & Villains also does a silent bid auction once a year for charity that includes some really great finds. All in all this place is great and you should check it out.

Yelp
This is my first, 1 star review, and I'm not happy about this. I walked into this shop months ago, and I'll never forget my experience here. I went up to the register and asked a couple of questions on where I can find certain comics (since it was my first time at this shop and I did not know where anything was), and I'm not entirely sure, but I felt like my questions bothered some of the staff members. The employees made me feel like I did not know what I was talking about, or that I knew anything about comics, seeing as I actually do know my comic history. They assumed because I'm a female, I'd rather read "My Little Pony" comics, even though I had asked them serious questions. (Now, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with liking MLP, I was just upset that they'd assume such things.) Pretentious, snobby attitudes are not acceptable when dealing with customers. I felt very uncomfortable in this store, and will never return.

Alexa G.

Yelp
Their store is always immaculately clean and always has what I'm looking for. Earlier last year, we made a comment about wanting a specific game, and the next time we came in, they had added it to their inventory and had it in stock for us. Shopping in other stores has been anxiety inducing and generally not fun, but their team has done a great job making their shop feel safe during COVID!
google avatar

Marina M.

Yelp
I happen to think that buying individual comic books gets expensive, but this place would keep those that disagree with me solidly happy. The comics are well organized, well displayed, and it's easy to find issues. The boyfriend says the availability of back issues is not as strong, but that doesn't keep him from returning. Going back to my opening sentence, I much prefer buying the book compilations of comics. That is not the technical term I'm sure, this is when a couple of issues are published in book form so you get multiple issues at once. Although it ends up being cheaper than having to be the individual issues, one has to wait about a year or so for the compilation to come out. Heroes and Villains has a great selection of these compilations and at the same price you would get them an Barnes. And for those that think comic books just deal with superheroes and the like (hell, the name of the store implies this), this is far from the truth. I personally dislike superhero comics, and read more "adult-themed" comics, many of which are released by Vertigo. A couple of favorites: Sweet Tooth, Demo, and Daytripper. I've gotten a cashier a couple of times that high-fives you if he likes your selections. This is a great comic book store, with obviously awesome employees (see above), and well deserving of their Yelp stars.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to stop by on my day off. The staff is always great informative knowledgeable friendly and willing to help out. I think this business is just all around ran great! I would give it a million stars if possible.

Yelp
Super dope, knowledgeable staff! Cool atmosphere and so much knowledge about everything in it. Never had a recommendation that I didn't love!

Yelp
Every time I'm in the country and in Tucson I go here for my comic book needs. Clean, nice and good specials.

Yelp
The first time I went in to H&V I was shown around the store and given a thorough explanation of their subscription service and Hero Bucks ($1 for every $10 spent that can be used for back issues, used graphic novels and rare issues hanging on the walls) rewards. By the time I left the store, I felt like coming back again. That's an important quality for a small shop like this and H&V offers superb customer service in spades. You'll never walk around the store for more than a minute before an employee will ask you if you need help finding something. I was also very impressed with their subscription service, which offers free bags and boards for all pulled comics with no minimum amount of books per month. On top of that, H&V will pull other books that might tie-in to a current storyline you're reading to make sure you don't miss an important moment in an arc. One of the only downsides to this store is its lack of back issues. There are just a few boxes of random back issues, so filling in a collection will likely not be possible for everyone here. Thankfully they keep months worth of issues of a current run on the racks along the walls, but as someone that is trying to fill the holes in his collection, this is not the place to go for older issues. Be sure to check out their "collections" box at the front of the store for collected story arcs, just don't expect to be able to find that hard-to-find back issue here.
google avatar

Shannon R.

Yelp
My favorite Comic Book store in town, they have everything you will ever need, all the popular and also obscure titles not seen in other shops, did I mention action figures? Have those to, and very willing to order something coming out if not a normal stock item.
google avatar

Chandra Y.

Yelp
Moved here a few months ago, and just found this gem. There is a wide range of comics and other great collectables, and the staff was great. A gentleman didnt start his shift for another half hour, and he still took the time to help us, and gave us a coppy of their event schedule, and a couple other small gifts for stopping in! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Cori B.

Yelp
This place is great. They offer main stream comics, variant comics, and toys. The staff is knowledgeable and they offer lots of options for discounts (hero bucks, flok, your birthday, discount tuesdays, etc). Will be back.
google avatar

Alejandro B.

Yelp
As a nerd I appreciate their selection of games and comics. I also really appreciate their selection of heroclix singles, which no one else has... that I have seen. Not quite 5 stars but still awesome!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Good customer service, clerk was really into his comic books so he was good at suggesting some more that he thought we would like. A wide selection of comic books but like the other poster said, probably not the place to go if you are looking for that rare or missing back issue. I absolutely loved the selection on graphic novels, which is not something you can find readily in any comic book store.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Cute shop, great customer service, good selection. We popped in for a look around, and found what we were looking for and more. As was noted elsewhere though, the selection of older comics is seriously lacking. One of the clerks mentioned that they are working on getting the older stuff out, so maybe in time they will have it all.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
Oh the fun this places has to offer! Full disclosure, I'm not a rabid comic book enthusiast, so take my review for what it's worth (in some ways, this makes my review actually more valid!). Employees are awesome. They've definitely got that hint of geekiness, and for that I'm thankful. They know their stuff and are more than happy to help someone like me out. But if Comic Book Guy showed up, they could easily hold their own as well. In other words, they don't talk down to people who aren't as into their hobby. It's actually the opposite--they are incredibly enthusiastic to share what they can, especially if you help them understand your tastes and preferences. Great selection, both of individuals comics, as well as the booked volumes for older editions. Also have a decent used section. With that, they have nice incentives with their hero bucks. Knick knacks and what nots are a little on the light side, but whatever--give me the comics! If they don't have what you want, they will find and order it for you.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
I agree with Forrest B. The customer service at this place is great. Mike and Ray are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I recently returned to the comic world after many many years away and their help is a big reason why I am back.
google avatar

Sara T.

Yelp
Came into Heros and Villains and was extremely impressed today. The cashier, Eddie was helpful and knowledgeable about the games. He went out of his way to make sure I got what I needed for my Special Ed class (Pokémon cards)! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
Bottom line: If you are here for MTG don't waste your time this place is F*CKING CLOWN SHOES go to Amazing Discoveries instead, I don't care about comics so for all I know they are great. Ok I like to play Magic, so when I heard that heroes and villains was having a Friday Night Magic event using the new commander sets Me and the Special Lady Friend were stoked. I went down a week before the event asked the who, what, when, how and why (I already knew the where). I asked should I/ do I need to sign up for the event before hand, as I have heard a lot of buzz surrounding the event. He say no there will be plenty. Hearing that I assumed ok well they have enough set aside for this event and they have a good plan on what they are doing. So Flash forward to day of event, event starts at 6pm I show up at 3pm and get told I am sorry we sold out of some of the sets earlier. Now i know a lot of readers are saying whats the big deal stores sell out of things. Yes but what I am upset about is how FNM is a tournament, and needs to be a good organized. When you tell someone who is interested in your event one set of circumstances only to actually operate under a completely different set you really break trust in your customers. If i am just after packs and sets I can buy those at walmart I go to local game stores for events and special things. If you can't get your sh*t together for events then you are no better as a game store than walmart or target. My friend who actually stayed for the event told me "They botched it", "It was so uncoordinated, and took forever and the final was a bunch of people from AD so they just split prized to make it end"
google avatar

Forrest B.

Yelp
Simply put, the customer service here is great. I called once to see if they had the latest issue of The Walking Dead (any a you comic nerds out there need to check it out if you haven't already) and they had one copy left which he automatically put on hold for me, before I could even ask. I suppose that's not too extraordinary, but it got my attention. It's a great place for graphic novels, and current issues.. but as far as I could tell, not so great for back-issues. They've also got figurines, toys, RPG stuff and used comics for those of us penny-pinchers.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
What a nice little comic book store. I'm just getting into comic books now as many of my friends are making them. I was happy to see a local section and that the staff was more than welcoming. Which I have found hard to come by. They have a huge huge huge selection to pick from and are more than happy to recommend things for you. Over all a great find.
google avatar

Nana C.

Yelp
I have been a comic book nut my entire life, and have been going to this place since I was a kid, they can be a little pricey, but if your not happy with secondhand comics, this is a sure bet. Very clean and easy to navigate, lots of great graphic novels that are otherwise hard to find (unless you shop online) they used to offer art classes and Im not sure if they do any more, but when I attended, it was very instructive, and most importantly a lot of fun!
google avatar

Yelp
Impressive comic book collection that my son and I both enjoyed perusing on a Saturday. We both found several that we left with. We will definitely be back! Nice staff, clean store.
