These guys were at the Lenexa Food Truck fair on 6/10/2016. Reader beware of a negative review.
The line was backed up at the Lenexa Food Truck fair, so I anticipated that it would be a good experience dining at Hero's New York Griddle. Unfortunately, the delay was due to some major lag in the cooking line. Talking to a few of the patrons waiting, I learned that the average wait time was approximately 40 minutes (one dude was going on 50 minutes for a Cubano). I pressed on due to the claim of "NY style" food & assorted items, the Dominican cuisine claim was what kept my interest peaked. I was feeding my kids, and was wanting to keep it simple. I ordered two hot dogs, two empinadas, and one order of French fries. Simple... Quick... Easy...
Boy, was I wrong! We waited, and waited, and waited... for 35 minutes! Once the food came, I realized that it was not worth the wait.
The fries were the frozen sort that you buy in bulk at a restaurant supply company, and were exactly what you would expect. While they were hot, they forgot to season them. The hot dogs were nuked, and totally burnt which made my kids refuse to eat them. Still, I held out hope for the glorious empinadas. They came piping hot, and served with a side of some kind of creamy, and spicy orange colored diping sauce. While the meat and veggie combo was flavorful inside the empinadas, it was a bit on the high sodium side. The dipping sauce was watered down, and had a little kick but it wasn't anything memorable. Overall, I felt like I could have had a better $16 dining experience elsewhere.
