Best Dishes Eater SF Editors Ate This Week: April 29 | Eater SF

"I finally drove to San Jose to hit Hết Sẩy, the Miền Tây Vietnamese pop-up that calls the Alameda home most days of the week. The mushrooms over sticky rice (xôi nấm rô ti) were spicy and lush, with tomatoes exploding in lushness and chewy, rich mushrooms contrasted by crunchy pops throughout; the coconut rice was pure indulgence, rivers of syrupy, savory notes marbling the dish. The bánh mi xí quách arrived in three pieces—two sandwich halves and a massive chunk of meat—ginormous and imposing, flanked by a scintillating, salty consommé. A Phin iced coffee was lovely and foamy and came with Mekong River Delta chocolate in a tiny bag, making for a symphonic, sensorial drink. Seated at a bright orange outdoor table, the meal felt prophetic, a little like the street-food-as-fine-dining energy Anthony Bourdain celebrated; anyone wondering if the Bay Area is still a culinary epicenter should add Hết Sẩy to their list." - Eater Staff

Eater SF’s Best Things to Do This Weekend in San Francisco: March 8 - Eater SF

"Hết Sẩy is hands down one of the most exciting pop-ups in the Bay Area, and it’s held that position since debuting in the early days of the pandemic. Part of the continued excitement — beyond the intimate relationship with the Mekong River Delta owners DuyAn Le and Hieu Le portray through their cooking — is the innovation that never seems to stop. This weekend, cơm tấm sườn cọng hột gà ốp la is on the menu, or rice, pork ribs, and sunny side-up eggs served with pickled and charred serrano, tomatoes, and fish sauce. According to the pop-up’s Instagram, this is a fairly classic breakfast option. In any case, making a trip to the team’s weekly installation at The Alameda in San Jose on either Saturday or Sunday would be a smart, mouth-watering way to start either day." - Paolo Bicchieri

This is one of my family’s favorite restaurants in the world!!! The staff is incredibly friendly and sweet, the food is out of this world, and the presentation is so nice! It has charming outdoor seating and is so cute! We recently moved to this area and were searching for a nice lunch spot when we found this place. The location is a bit hidden, so you won’t see it on the main street, but the food is absolutely amazing. I 100% recommend coming here.

I can't believe the 1 star reviews, they must have expected Michelin restaurant experience instead of a local restaurant featuring authentic food, which is exactly what it is. This place is DELICIOUS, yes it is a small setting with outdoor seating, they're kind and happy to serve their homemade delicious food. Service is quick, food is yummy, there are games right there (fusbol table, pingpong, checkers and chess) to play while you wait for your food or when you're done. We tried the 3 meals they had on a Sunday and we all loved them (including our kids).

If you’re into quaint, quirky, and delicious spots, this place is a must-try. I was headed to another restaurant when I happened to walk by and decided to try them out. So glad I did! The pork belly and shoulder Banh Mi sandwich was amazing. The service was friendly and informative as well. Highly recommend!

Not the typical Vietnamese/American fare you get in this region, but cooked with a lot of skill and craft. Come with an open mind. Menu rotates weekly with a few staples. These are rare dishes seen outside of Viet houses.

I got a braised pork bahn mi and Vietnamese coffee. Both were excellent and delicious. Coffee is a bit small but delicious. Atmosphere is great but the park next to it is fenced off for construction as of this review. Will be great once park is open.

My husband introduced me to this place when they had pop ups at the rose garden farmers market and they have been so consistently good! So excited they have a new location. We got the banh mi, noodle soup, and sausage pastry and all were delicious as always. Their food is different and interesting - in a great way.

Ordered takeout using their website listed on Google Maps, not sure what the other reviews are on about. Food was excellent, fresh and made quickly when we arrived to pick up. They don't make the food ahead and have it sit so keep that in mind. I will definitely be back to see what else is on the menu! Thanks Het Say!
