New Orleans’s Essential Coffee Shops

"This Uptown shop had to close its Magazine Street shop during the pandemic, but the beloved coffee outlet also has a home on the Lafitte Greenway — and it’s open late (til 8 p.m., a rarity in New Orleans). Hey! expertly roasts and brews coffee manually, boasting a “temperature profiling system,” makes its own chai, and serves bagels, pastries,  and breakfast tacos." - Eater Staff

We were thrilled with our experience at HEY Coffee Co! The space was cozy and inviting, and the staff was friendly and helpful. My seasonal latte was perfectly balanced between the hand crafted flavoring and the flavor of the coffee roast shining through. As I was grabbing a bag of beans to go, the staff was able to steer me toward the beans and flavors I was looking for based on my taste preference and style of coffee I enjoy. I highly recommend stopping by to support such a wonderful coffee shop and roastery!

Google
Great house-made syrups for their lattes and friendly service. Their espresso is delicious. There are a few good tables to sit at. I also loved their music selection. This place is such a vibe.

Google
Decent coffee and great service! Wished for a single origin espresso but the blend was pretty solid. Seating is very limited, but the shop has good vibes. Would order here again.

Google
“Sass for days” should be the tattoo of the lady instead of her name. Lady is so cool she won’t even say hello. She mumble something to you while turning her back at you, and while loudly grinding coffee. Then turns around “and there it is”!! She’s annoyed at you already and you haven’t even open your mouth . Thanks for the great morning vibes! That’s exactly why I came in! The rest of the exchange was based on the same level of communication, no need to eleborate. Coffee is ok.. although it smells good and somehow taste good, it feels like acidity bullet. That’s how much love this person put in her job this morning. Have a nice day

4.8 | all you would want in a coffee shop. in house roastery, house beans, seasonal coffee concoctions, and of course, your classic coffee drinks. enjoyed my cortado so much, the flavour on the expresso was great. super balanced and dialed in. my friend also grabbed a lemon pound cake that was super tasty, and I snagged some of their Brazilian beans because it seemed to be flying off the shelf. I would definitely come back here when I’m in NOLA again! highly recommend!

Google
Excellent coffee. Arguably the best I’ve had in the city. I’ll go out of my way, some mornings, to squeeze this into my day. Highly recommend. Seating is sparce, but the smells and drinks are great.

Google
On a long cross-country trip with many coffee shop stops, Hey Coffee absolutely stood out for me. I've been working in specialty coffee for six years now, and this is exactly the kind of environment that speaks to me. All the customers were locals who knew each other but were happy to talk to us as well. Our barista was helpful, chatty, and incredibly accommodating even as I kept finding new things I wanted to order. I even picked out a shirt because I liked the art so much, and it turned out the barista had designed it themselves! My cold brew was excellent, and it's always a great experience to be in a roasting facility to see where the magic happens. I will absolutely be back here.

Google
My wife and I stayed in NOLA for St. Paddy's Day weekend 3/14 - 18 2024. The HEY coffee shop was on our way to Canel St. The staff was super friendly & the coffee was extremely tasty & fresh. They roast the beans right there in the shop. What is really cool is they used biodegradable cups. They also use a dried pasta noodle as a straw. Definitely wanna go back next time we are in NOLA.

Yelp
Hey Coffee was hosting an art show that featured a friend and I was out of town for the opening, so I hightailed it across to town to see the art for the final weekend. Of course, while there I had a seriously delicious biscuit and a steel tumbler of iced tea. PERFECTION! The space is small as befits a grab and go coffee shop but there is seating for 10 or so, but with the high ceilings, it does not feel cramped. The person behind the counter was great, friendly and knowledgeable. And he made buying a couple of pieces, easy peasy. Will definitely stop back in when near the Greenway!

Yelp
This place is so cute and welcoming! I'd never heard of it but while I was waiting for my bagel from flour moon I stepped over and grabbed a small, no-foam, five shot, half-caf, no foam, pumpkin spice latte, with no foam, at 210 degrees (*vanilla latte) the owner? Or person working was so cute and very friendly and my drink was too! The place is very instagram-y and just a vibe! I didn't know they had food as well but next time I go I'll get food and report back! 5 stars for the coffee and the experience!
google avatar

Essence B.

Yelp
Great coffee shop on the Greenway! Good variety of coffee drinks and breakfast/pastry options as well. Small and quant.

Yelp
Hey NO! Everything about the experience was lack luster. The one person doing everything and you call it out when you get there is disorganized and she gets the order wrong most of the time as I was sitting there listening. The biscuit that changed someone's life review, thanks for wasting more money with that lie as that was a pathetic biscuit. I didn't finish either the cappuccino or the biscuit. Tip for anyone who likes quality and flavor. Went to Lamara down the street and let me tell you it's night and day different like I went from McDonald's to a three star Michelin restaurant. Plus Hey is confusing thought I was going to hey cafe but it's just this Tiny spot on side of flour moon.

Yelp
My oat milk chai is in this photo. I got to enjoy it next door at the bagel place. Hey Coffee Co. has limited seating so it's not my go-to study spot. But it's great for taking in the Greenway scenery with a couple of friends. The staff is sweet.

Yelp
Amazing coffee! The quality is always on point. The staff is wonderful and always great to banter with! Love the vibe of this place so much

Yelp
My lavender vanilla latte was perfection! The barista was really friendly and the the atmosphere was welcoming. Their cups were environmentally friendly.

Lauren M.

Yelp
One of the baristas recommended this off menu drink. Spicy mocha with oat milk. 10/10.

Yelp
Love this place, great service and variety of select beans roasted in-house. Very friendly and relaxed place. Barista Corsiatto is a master!

Yelp
HEY is my neighborhood coffee shop and I've been going for years. They've got a really good cold brew, tasty snacks, and they always have a selection of unique beans that they'll grind for you. One of my favorite parts of HEY is how often they have new art on the walls, and I've met some wonderful artists through them. It's a very laid back atmosphere with knowledgeable and kind baristas. They've also got a brewery I haven't tried and Flour Moon Bagels next door, so it's worth the stop!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this hidden gem riding my bike on The Greenway. I decided to come here to work and grab a drip coffee. Very nice staff, nice variety of menu, limited seating inside and a few tables outside. Will def return. Love the ambiance!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I popped over here to grab some donuts from PawPaw's donuts (he was doing a pop up here) and that how I discovered this little gem. While I was there, I ordered coffee, a slice of quiche and a breakfast taco. The quiche was the largest slice of quiche I had ever seen. I have a big mouth but I couldn't open wide enough to bite into this slice of heaven! And it was the creamiest, flavorful and most decadent slice of quiche I have ever devoured. The breakfast tacos were flavorful and packed solid with deliciousness. Nothing skimpy about them. I will definitely return!

Yelp
I'm from outside New Orleans, but recently moved to Oakland, CA. I frequently Hey! On a monthly basis, as I love specialty coffee and this shop is very consistent and in a few great locations in the city. My friend Devin, who is a local roaster in Hammond, LA and I had been talking about Yemeni coffee and trying to get our hands on some. For those unfamiliar, Yemen was one do the first places coffee was grown and cultivated. It's also a hard region to export from, modern-day. I was very pleasantly surprised when this showed up at my door, sent from Devin! I brewed a cup immediately using my Hario V60, and it was fresh and bright. The jasmine came out for me in the tasting notes, giving it a light and almost tea-like body. I've always loved this space to frequent, but this was an extra special surprise!

James W.

Yelp
Friendly, delicious, reliable, accurate. Always there for you when you need them. Thank you for continuing to be great!

Yelp
A great funky little coffee shop right on the Lafitte Greenway. Perfect place to stop while on bike or foot. I have been here often and have worked here. They have WiFi and outlets. The drinks are quality and they have a fizz bar (Sodajerks) that is awesome!! I love a good bubbly drink and these do not disappoint. This is very much a community feel here with everyone saying hello. Hey Coffee Co. hosts many events like latte art competitions and one event I saw recently was a Holiday Market. If you go here you'll be greeted warmly and will want to come back! It truly is unique and a treasure in the neigjborhood

Yelp
I'm visiting New Orleans this week and decided to visit the newish mid-city location of Hey! Coffee. First, I wanted a couple pounds of their delicious Ethiopian beans. They were freshly roasted and packaged for me. They smell so good in my suitcase! I ended up going back three times for morning lattes...yummy! Micah was so nice and is a great barista. We also met a lot of really nice people there! They feature local artists, with some of their work displayed for sale. Heading home in the morning, but will definitely be back! And I learned that they have an online store, so I can keep supplied with my favorite brew

Yelp
HEY Coffee Co. is amazing. I love this location because it's right on the Greenway. So fun to stop for an iced coffee on my way down to the Quarter. My favorite is their cold brew with a splash of cream. It's delicious!!! COVID Stuff: The inside is very small and is currently closed due to COVID, so they are only doing walk up service. They have tables outside and in the grass. It's really cute, actually. Gotta have a mask! Really though, I love this coffee co and everything they stand for. They lost their shop uptown this year so drop on by and support them on the Greenway :)

Yelp
I've passed this building I don't know how many times and never knew it housed a coffee shop. It's located along the Lafitte Greenway and is next door to Flour Moon Bagels. The shop is kind of small, but they utilize the space well. There's a bench along the wall with some tables and chair and some bar space around the perimeter for those who want to stay a while. There are even a couple of small tables outside. They roast their own coffee which I think is super cool. The dink selection is made up of all of the usual suspects like espresso, mochas, drip coffee, cappuccinos, chai, etc. I had an iced chai with oat milk and it was perfect for the warm day. I grabbed a table outside and enjoyed the beautiful views of the Greenway. It's a perfect place to stop by while on a morning or afternoon walk, catch up with a friend, or answer a few emails. My favorite part was the corner of branded merchandise. The shirts and drink ware are so cute!

Yelp
Nice little coffee place with solid food and drink offerings and seating right next to the Lafitte Greenway. We got a cold brew, an iced chai, and praline-flavored king cake (it was the week before Mardi Gras). The king cake slice was baked by a local bakery, and they had a wide variety of flavor options, but we went with the novel praline flavor. Everything was delicious! What really brought HEY Coffee Co to five stars for me was their social responsibility and mission. A portion of their profits go to local food security oriented non-profits and all of their products (including coffee) are all sustainably crafted. In addition, all of their surplus pastries go to a local community fridge at the end of the day, thereby eliminating food waste. How cool is that?

Yelp
I stumbled upon this cute little coffee shop on a backstreet, on my way to pick my boyfriend and family up for lunch. It gave me all the hipster vibes and reminded me of home (The Bay Area) which I greatly appreciated. I got a couple of Americanos and they were perfectly prepared. Such a friendly, colorful little spot, I loved the plants - if I lived in the city I'd definitely be a regular.
google avatar

Yelp
First off, they have fresh bagels delivered that are so good! They're coffee is great and we like getting a bag of whole beans to grind at home, they're located right on the Laffitte greenway and have cute seating outside. Inside is a bit small for seating. Dogs are welcome

Layne M.

Yelp
just stopped in and got a coffee from cortalia (i am confident i spelled their name wrong, sorry about that!). they were super friendly and had a lot of great information about their locally roasted coffee. i've been a long time fan of hey coffee and cannot recommend enough! truly a great local coffee shop!
google avatar

Alixandra E.

Yelp
I never stay to enjoy my cup of joe there, but it's a nice, quiet spot to chill for sure. It's small, but just big enough to have a couple of different types of seating inside and a set of cafe table and chairs out front. I always get the cold brew! It's reasonably priced for high quality coffee beans. You can enjoy your coffee looking out onto the pretty Lafitte Greenway or take it to go. The baristas are always nice and quick! They sell a variety of pastries although I've never tried any.

Yelp
Honestly, Lichelle is enough reason to visit this location in the morning if I have to say so myself. I work close by, so I visited early morning and her smiling face and great personality will perk you up in the morning. Just having a conversation with her as she makes you a delicious treat is what I call superb customer service! This location has some great coffee available! You can also get lattes (currently only flavor available, if you are a flavor person is vanilla). Also, some pastries and a few breakfast items are available! The location is cute. It's a small section to sit, so not good for big groups, but great for a nice day of reading or something. There is street parking in the area and you shouldn't have any issues in that!

Yelp
Yay! So happy to see Hey! Cafe expand. The new location is great. Baristas are super friendly and coffee is awesome. They've got good snacks too. Kinda small as far as seating goes, but we got a table no problem
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
Overall, the coffee is delicious. There were no vegan food available, but there was oat milk for my latte. The coffee is strong, and super creamy. I bought a bag of coffee (Ethiopean) and a free BLM poster. This would definitely be more stars if i didn't come mid-pandemic during a heavy rain storm since there's an only take out window since it's considered a bar/night club/whatever.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here this morning for some coffee and baked goods. It's a cute spot where you walk up into a storefront vestibule and they bring everything out. There are some cafe tables outside for sitting, but since it had rained that morning, we just made a picnic under the awning around the corner. We got two drip coffees that were strong and tasted fine, but seriously cannot believe that you would open a coffeeshop with neither cream nor half-and-half in stock (also, Whole Foods is two blocks away: why not make a quick run?). The whole milk didn't cut it for us. Our daughter's hot chocolate was solid. Baked goods (chocolate croissant and candied orange-currant scone) were not up to snuff: both were rubbery and didn't strike us as fresh. Service was friendly and had we been able to cream our coffees the way we like to, this review would probably be a rounded-up four stars. We're not saying you shouldn't go here--you should because it's a sweet lil local business--but we think there's better to be had in the city.

Marcia G.

Yelp
Best coffee shop in Nola. Just all the things! Bike rack, great location on the greenway, WiFi, cute art, kindest people, burritos, baked treats, best chai. Can't rave enough! They've thought of everything.
google avatar

Yelp
Was in the neighborhood looking for coffee and glad I stopped in. Great fresh coffee made to order. Awesome little set up and will definitely be back. Sure beats Starbuck and supports our local coffee shops. Cold brew with mocha syrup and milk!!! Yummy
google avatar

Helen M.

Yelp
LICHELLE is AMAZING!! She was so knowledgeable about everything in the store! She went in Depth about the different coffees they offered and i was also able to try the draft cold brew coffee!! There was also a lil sexy foam on top of the coffee draft shot(I was so UP and ALERT AFTER I must SAY!) She was friendly and really helpful. I ordered a LATTE and it was sooo delicious!+A!!!! The inside was nice and cozy with a window that got great sunlight !! I loved the whole set-up space wise.

Yelp
I really hate everything about this place. The generic hipster vibe that can make it anywhere. Just blink and this place can be in Austin, Portland, Denver etc. But what really annoys me is that a culturally diverse city can be reduced to this generic blob. During my last visit there was a guy with a dog. I will assume that it's an emotional support dog because every entitled brat moving to the city has one for his/her dog to take it on the subway, coffeeshop etc. This particular dog had it's paw on the counter, sniffed around my food and bag. And the entitled owner did nothing. Sorry but not everyone wants a dog around their food. Skip this gentrified mess of a place.
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
This is a precious little place that gives back to the community but I don't love it. I guess I was confused by the fact that my soy milk cappucino didn't appear to come with soy milk? Or maybe, there was a tiny tiny splash that was frothed but it was mostly espresso with a little bit of water? The espresso was not bad but not amazing. Not much seating, pretty small. Kindof slow service. I'm going to try it again for the food I suppose.
google avatar

Annie E.

Yelp
My sis and nephew (locals) took an out of towner, (me) for coffee and a bite-oat milk chai was lovely! And bagel was delicious, I'm a New Yorker, my standard is high ;) happy to support, and I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
HEY Coffee Co. has truly adapted into one of the safest / least contact coffee shops in New Orleans, all while keeping up with the quality of coffee. I have had the pleasure of being served by each team member, and each time I receive outstanding service and kindness. The added benefits of this coffee shop are that it's near the greenway for a nice walk to the french quarter with a hot cup of coffee in hand, and outdoor seating spaced out if you want some time with friends safely in the time of Covid.
google avatar

Nicky F.

Yelp
Such a cute place ! We came here after having willie maes. The baristas are very nice. What's cute is that they offer pasta straws.. good for the environment! The coffee is very flavorful, don't really know how to describe it. It's just the perfect kind of dark coffee.
google avatar

Yasmine 'DeShun W.

Yelp
Great service, loved the vibe and decor. Tasted a shot of the espresso blend and an iced short latte. Love the aim for minimal waste and sustainability and the gluten bucatini pasta straws in lieu of plastic straws for iced drinks was a creative touch!
google avatar

Caitlin S.

Yelp
Been two times with two different baristas. They both cared a lot about the coffee they were serving and provided a damn good cup o joe/espresso. As tourists in these two separate occasions they were quirky kind in their recommendations. We have been able to try some of the recommendations so far and did not disappoint. Highly suggest. Dog friendly. Clean.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Cool, hidden gem, right off the greenway. The service is excellent, and the coffee is high quality with a perfect drip. I mean, perfect. This is one of the few places around that I'll order a double espresso and sip without any additives. Also, this would be a great spot to sit at the bar, chit-chat, and people watch.
google avatar

Caleb N.

Yelp
The coffee is delicious, easy access right off the greenway and an interesting shop off a quiet street. Cute little spot for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning or on the weekend. It seems like many of the customers come here often, which just shows that this cafe does right by its customers. WiFi has always been good to me, too. One of my favorite coffee spots.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
I found a very good and friendly barista here. He made exactly what I wanted, and even went out of his way to make sure I had raw sugar. The atmosphere is even great, quiet. I simply didn't care for the taste of the bean. The coffee had an unusually bitter and odd after taste that I've never experienced, and I'm a regular espresso drinker who has ordered the beverage around the country and a bunch of others. Perhaps it was a fluke. I didn't complain. I had a couple of swigs of it and discarded the rest.

Javin K.

Yelp
This is my go to coffee spot in Nola! They have variety selection of coffee, it has a very nice cozy vibes, and the service from the baristas is what really makes this place stand out. This is the spot to get your work done or have a nice conversation with your friends over good coffee
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome and amazing location on the Lafitte Greenway on St. Louis Street just riverward from Broad. Really amazing people and a good quiet place to work and/or relax. Coffee is delicious and the food looks amazing too though mostly just bagels and pick-me-ups. I love Hey! Café. They also were a sponsor in the Greenway Festival at which everyone had a great time!!!

NATCHEZ V.

Yelp
Awesome COFFEEHOUSE! Great mix of cool people and hot coffee. Great price variety of quality roasts wrapped in a cool location.

Joan H.

Yelp
This the cutest coffee place ever!! Coffee and tea was yummy but the best part about this place was the atmosphere. Love the colorful accents and artwork and the very kind lady working the counter. Great place! It felt so comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

Katarina S.

Yelp
We stopped by on a whim (visitors to NOLA) and could not have been happier with everything HEY Coffee Co had going on: their commitment to leaving a minimal environmental impact (they have noodle straws!!) and the quality of their ingredients (best iced mocha I have ever had) will not disappoint! We already have plans to come back during our stay here.

Mary S.

Yelp
every person who works here is such a gem. beautiful spot on the greenway and of course everything is delicious. this business is run by such a solid team and they do an amazing job. give them all your money!!!!
