Hi Bakery is easily one of my favorite places in the city.
When I visited for the first time, right off the bat, I was intrigued by the unique offerings. Like other bakeries, it has the usual varieties: croissants, scones, cookies, cakes; but a closer look reveals the creativity that goes into these usual offerings: the unique croissant flavors, the seasonal danishes, the little flower pedals on the cookies. This place clearly has its own idea of what to put out on their shelves.
When I met Hi Bakery's owner Tatiana, I immediately understood that what I saw is the result of her fervent passion and devotion to running a great bakery, everything from organic, high-quality ingredients to warm, attentive customer service. As a baker, she brings the farm to table idea to her bakery and focuses on seasonality and local sourcing. As a bakery owner, she is warm, observant, and her whole staff is friendly and helpful.
What first hooked me at Hi Bakery is, as usual, the croissants. The butter croissant is flaky and tasty, while the matcha rose croissant incorporates nicely the subtle, natural sweetness. I also had fig danish, cinnamon bun, matcha shortbread cookie, buttercream cookie, blood orange cake, lunch sandwich...as well as a slice of Tatiana's delicious signature sunflower sourdough bread, baked with pride and love of her home country Ukraine.
I went back to Hi Bakery three times in three weeks and every visit felt new and worth the anticipation. There will be new seasons, and new seasonal pastries, and I'll keep coming back.
